If you love cockroaches, broken elevators, smells of trash and urine, and constant break ins and security issues then this is definitely the place for you. Don't be fooled by the exterior polish, this place is garbage. The upkeep is laughable with ongoing faults throughout the building and minimal effort to keep things working well. Not to worry though, onsite management will have endless excuses as to why they can't do their job. And then there is the staff. Rude and dismissive doesn't begin to cover it. I'm talking with others in the building it appears there may even be a pattern of discrimination. Even if not, the snarky responses, dirty looks, and judgemental nature of most of the office staff says a lot about the quality of employees hired by the management company. The last thing I will say is be prepared to be nickel and dimed to death with this place. Make sure you calculate an additional $300 per month for mystery utility charges that they will do every thing they can to avoid providing any actual proof to support. If you want to know more about the practice, google Equity Residential and the tenants strike against them in California. Save yourself a lot of headache and money. Look at many of the much nicer buildings nearby for the same or less money, many of which are offer great move in deals. read more

Horrid place. Would not recommend. Not in a safe neighborhood; security in the building itself is lax, to say the least. Anyone walks in and out at any time, steals packages, rides elevators, goes to the garage, at will. No one is around by way of staff, particularly at night. Maintenance of the building is poor; elevators, trash chutes, locks on exit doors, electronic access, etc, never seem to operate properly and residents are told mystery parts have been ordered...which always take months and months to arrive. Periodically, they will spruce the place up when they are trying to attract new victims...uh, I mean tenants. Leasing team is basically not pleasant and not helpful; they have zero authority to make decisions. Rents are outrageous for what you get and rent hikes extraordinarily high, and above market level. Lived here for two years, and it was, honestly, one of the best days of my life when I left. It mercifully never happened to me, but people were always complaining about having their cars broken into (garage door often gets stuck in open position for weeks and months), and ditto their storage units. Security guard they sometimes hire is generally sleeping away in his truck at the entrance door. Community areas are filthy; the loading dock scary, dog poo everywhere, too; courtyard noisy as heck at any time of night, and the street-facing apartments are even worse with sirens constantly blaring, and mentally-challenged or drug-addicted people shrieking, especially at night. Avoid, avoid, avoid! Sad to say, but building is very representative of Equity Residential properties, which they seem to purchase in great shape and then run into the ground. read more

Living here ended up becoming an absolute nightmare and has drained me financially. I actually loved this apartment and thought everyone was nice until I unfortunately faced a hostile and unstable roommate situation in which I had to break my lease. I was told by a woman at the front office incorrect information saying that because I was not a primary lease holder, all I had to do was pay a $250.00 fee and I would be able to move out. I specifically asked if any additional costs and would be due or if I needed to have a release signed off by my roommate and was told ABSOLUTELY NO. Due to this misinformation, I began moving to find out I would need the person living with me to sign a roommate release form or I could not leave, and my roommate refused to find a new roommate or release me from me the lease. The only other option was to break the lease which is $6,000 total. The second piece of misinformation came from one of the assistant managers who verbatim told me that our January rent was INCLUDED in this charge, therefore only costing $3,000 to break the lease. I asked multiple times to confirm and was assured that because we had paid our rent on the 1st, we would only need to pay an additional $3,000. I even had an in person meeting to confirm. Come to find out, this was also false and the total charge is in fact $6,000. That is almost $9000 total spent in one month to break an APARTMENT LEASE. Insane. This false information put me in an even more dangerous and financially devastating position. I cannot imagine what someone in an abusive relationship or roommate situation would do living here and needing to leave. Obviously no one wants or should break a lease. I have never ended a lease early or had a roommate issue in my life. But unfortunately, there was no other option for me to safely continue living here and Saxton made sure to make the process as difficult emotionally and financially as possible. If I told my clients at work something would take 15 minutes and cost $250, and then said "just kidding, it will actually take weeks and cost $6,000, here's the bill" I would get fired. This type of carelessness should be taken seriously and is absolutely unacceptable. read more

I have lived in Saxton for over 3 years, and it is really disappointing to see how this building has regressed over the years. When I first moved it, Saxton was taken care of very well, the managers and leasing team were very prompt and helpful, and building felt safe. Since then, the building has gotten dirty and the leasing team is largely unhelpful (with the exception of a few members). Floors are dirty and hardly ever cleaned, common spaces are disgusting, dead plants over the whole building, resident spaces that are no longer secure, poorly taken-care-of trash areas, and the list goes on. You have to reach out the leasing team minimally 3-4x before someone will respond, and if they do, they redirect you to someone else. To some extent, the buildings issues are not the leasing teams fault, rather Equity Residential for lack of attention to their building and residents. The saving grace of the building is that their physical units are nice and modern, with fairly sturdy finishes and appliances. The service team is also wonderful and very attentive to fixing issues, at least in my experience. Rent isn't too bad for the area either, at least your first year, after which you may be subject to extremely high rent hikes for no apparent reason (the building isn't getting any nicer). All in all, not the worst place to live, but considering Saxton's downhill spiral, if you have the ability to live elsewhere, I would recommend it. read more

Love this apartment! Awesome amenities, like the roof top grill/hangout, the game room, gym and room downstairs where you can just get togethers! Those are such great spaces especially because your apartment is so limited. The front desk was always pretty nice to us, we did have some problems breaking our lease because of military orders, but it worked out in the end a bit. We also always has a problem with people parking in our assigned parking space. And on of the elevators that was in the garage by our parking was always broken, so we would have to walk through the garage to get to another one (doesn't sound bad but I usually get home from work around 1230am so not the safest ) Other then that this complex was great! And a really good location right by the interstate and in downtown but not too close to the busy streets! read more

Pros: - ideal location if you need to be close to the hospitals - if you prefer the quieter side but still close to Cap Hill - pretty central location to South and North Seattle, right off of I5 - brand new apartment complex with nice finishes and interiors - management takes effort to keep complex clean Cons: - have to be okay with ambulance, sirens - I walk my dogs regularly so I bump into sketchy people around the complex - expensive parking When I first moved to Saxton, it was run by Alliance Properties. What enticed me and my husband was their deals (free two months rent and parking) and regular freebies and events. In December, management transitioned to Equity and I think the transition was a bit rough. However, I still have great experience with the people who work at Equity, especially Frankie! He has been very prompt with my questions and helped me continue my lease for an even better deal! read more

Saxton is a stunning property in a convenient, central location. Frankie was fantastic to work with and incredibly helpful! He spent a lot of time answering all my questions and showed me a variety of 1 bedroom floor plans. They were all well designed with beautiful finishings and a large amount of storage. The amenities are great and it has the biggest and best gym I have ever seen in apartment complex! Saxton is definitely a hidden gem and I'd highly recommend it to anyone. read more

My wife and I moved into this apartment building soon after it opened. At that time, it was called Broadstone Saxton and was managed by Alliance Residential. While the rent was steep, the allure of a brand new building, along with luxurious amenities and a welcoming culture made it worthwhile. For example, the building had almost monthly resident events with food, drinks and music. The community gym was stocked with fresh towels, water/juices, and protein bars. The lobby had daily pastries and coffee available. However, within 4-5 months, all of these amenities vanished. No community events. The gym devoid of water/juices or protein bars. No towels. No pastries in the lobby. It seems that once the apartment building had reached capacity, resident satisfaction was no longer a priority. Due to problems with management, the apartment building was sold to Equity Residential in November 2019. We were hopeful that improvements would be made; unfortunately, I am disappointed to say things are far worse. While the promised amenities never returned, the management "culture" has progressively become more inconsiderate and customer service has severely diminished. Example: Reserved parking spots in the garage are $225 per month. My wife and I have one reserved parking spot for our vehicle. Earlier this week, I arrived home in the evening to discover that an unauthorized vehicle had parked in my parking spot. I called the apartment after-hours number, they claimed they could not help. I called the "Courtesy Patrol Officer", he refused to help -- claimed that he could not tow a vehicle and suggested I "park in someone else's spot and leave a note". Finally, I called ABC Towing (the tow company assigned to our parking garage). They refused to tow the vehicle without legal documentation within the lease that proved this parking spot belonged to me. This is called a Parking Addendum. While this should have been a slam dunk, I realized that the lease agreement provided by Equity Residential DID NOT have the parking addendum. Without this, the tow company refused to tow the unauthorized vehicle parked in my parking spot. There is where the "culture" comes into play. I met and spoke with Frankie, one of the leasing managers, and he told me "our lease does not include a parking addendum". He blatantly REFUSED to provide me any documentation showing proof that the parking spot was mine. He simply stated that their company does not include that in the lease and has no plans to include it in his lease. Frankie recommended that in such a situation, I "should park in one of the available disabled parking spots". I explained to Frankie that it is actually illegal to park in a disabled parking spot without a permit (https://www.dol.wa.gov/vehicleregistration/parkinguse.html). His answer shocked me... "So? The only two people who would report you are me and the manager; and neither of us would report you. So you can park there." Poor customer service is one thing, but suggesting that it is okay to break the law, is a whole other level of stupid. This is the customer service and management culture at Saxton Apartments... Here is the TLDR: The apartment is conveniently located in First Hill. It is close to Downtown Seattle and Capitol Hill. It is very close to the surrounding hospitals; so very convenient for physicians. The rent price is expensive, but comparable to surrounding buildings. That being said, there are SEVERAL new apartment buildings being built in the area. Find one that actually cares about their residents. read more

Saxton apartments have been by far the nicest I've lived in while in Seattle. They are super modern, clean and updated and also very soundproof. They have lots of amenities. The building is very secure and safe. My neighbours have been very pleasant and they staff have been awesome. So far I can't think of anything I don't like. read more

We loved living at Saxton (formerly Broadstone Saxton) ...that is until the COVID pandemic. As an essential worker who has to wear a mask for the entire duration of an active day at work, it's frustrating & disheartening to see the staff sitting next to each other without wearing a mask. The signs in the building stating that face masks are required for the community apparently does not apply for the people in the front lobby or office. My partner addressed this with the staff at the desk and it became a very defensive & hostile conversation rather than a simple "of course, let me put my mask on." I haven't had issues with the staff in the past but now it is awkward & uncomfortable to walk through the lobby knowing the staff aren't as concerned with the "health & wellbeing of the community" as stated in emails & posts. I wish we could've had a professional conversation but it's clear the individuals my partner addressed this with is against wearing a mask while at their job & in our community. Meanwhile a "Thank You Harborview Medical Staff" hangs in the window but the staff can't be inconvenienced to wear a mask while at their desk in order to truly protect the Medical Staff than lives in our community. Great location. Nice staff. Well-maintained. First, let it be known that I have lived in many similar communities over the years and also work for an apartment owner (not Saxton's owner), so I have a lot of experience with these types of properties. I want to address some of the negative reviews I have found online. I find it very unfair and frustrating when I see bad reviews that give the property 1 star for things like packages, parking, or a broken elevator. These reviews are simply unhelpful for prospective tenants (like I was a few months ago). I wish these reviewers would give a more holistic review that was detailed and listed pros and cons. There is no way this community deserves a 1-star review in my opinion. Packages: Yes, the tenants at the property order a ton from Amazon (myself included) and this property has like 350 units! That's a lot of packages!! It almost seems like there is at least one staff member constantly monitoring the mail room as couriers come in an out throughout the day. Yes, the mail room is a bit small and I have had to wait an extra DAY to get a package from time to time when the courier didn't check it into the system. The process is still hella convenient and I think it is actually managed quite well given the circumstances. Parking: As far as parking, it is fairly full, but there are available spaces. We had to try a couple times to find one where our car fit well, but it ended up working out fine. To those complaining about the parking - - really this garage is almost completely standard for an modern urban property. If you don't want dings on your car, don't live in an urban apartment building!! It's really that simple. Broken Elevators: Really? What a dumb reason to give a bad review. At most one set of elevators was out for a couple days. I work downtown and this happens at my office building all the time. This also happens at any apartment building. I in no way feel like the property was slow to respond to these issues. They sent us an alert email and the issue was fixed a couple days later. Use a different set of the MANY elevators in the community (or better yet the stairs?). Not a big inconvenience. Ok off my soapbox and back to the actual review. Pros: - Staff are very friendly, funny, communicative, and helpful. I previously lived in an Equity property and had a similar experience. The company is well-regarded and their properties tend to be managed well. - Amenities galore. This is one of the great things about living here. The gym is excellent, which was a big factor for me. There are plenty of common spaces, which I don't use as frequently, but are a nice feature. The roof is nice, but the space up there is pretty small. I think it would be nice if they had some pool style chairs for laying in the sun. - Location, probably the main reason I moved here. Having a less than 10 min commute by work is pretty sweet. Quick walk to a lot of places like Downtown, Capitol Hill, Whole Foods, etc. There are a couple convenience stores within a block like Stockbox Grocery and Metropolitan Market, which make things convenient too. - Super attractive floor plans. Again, I work in the industry so I see a lot of these. The floor plans here were designed amazingly well. There is little to no wasted space and everything fits very logically for a modern lifestyle. Really a feature people should think more about when looking for a place to live. - Well-maintained, clean, almost like a hotel. Need I say more? Cons: - Ambulances galore. The building is situated basically right between the largest hospitals in the state. Even though our apartment isn't on the Harborview Medical side, we hear probably 10-20 ambulances per day/night. They are quite loud, especially with your windows open (which is necessary in Seattle Spring/Summer/Fall). Expect the noise to be an issue. That said, I never hear my neighbors making noise, so that is a plus. - There are quite a few vagrants walking around the area, so you should be aware of that before moving in. I haven't had any issues with this though. read more

Honestly... I wish I hadn't signed a 2-year lease. This building was formerly managed by Alliance Residential, and while they weren't the best, things have certainly gone downhill since. The property is now managed by Equity Residential, who have staffed this building with folks who clearly haven't managed a building of this size. The good: Location - affordable and still convenient to both Cap Hill and Downtown. Amenities* - Rooftop patio and courtyard, both equipped with grills. Conference room, community room, game room. Fantastic gym (from what I hear ). A Metropolitan deli at the bottom for quick store runs. Washer and Dryer in unit. New - these apartments are only a year old so they are all modern and have nice finishes. They're are many types of floor plans available to suit your needs. Judging by how little I hear my neighbors, I'd say it's very well constructed. First Hill can be noisy and with my windows closed I don't hear the hospital racket at all (I'm also in an inside unit). The bad: Location - I know why you're thinking, but it can be both. You're right smack in the middle of several hospitals so as soon as I step outside it's loud - traffic from James Street and sirens ringing out. I couldn't imagine being in a street facing unit. The UGLY: Hidden costs - If you decide to tour after everything you've read, ask management how much the water bill is going to run you. I'm single, living alone and I pay anywhere from $170-$200/month. I was appalled when I saw my first bill but even more appalled that (old) management's response was "We've heard of higher so you should count yourself lucky!" Do you have a car? That's an extra $250/month. And don't make the mistake of thinking your guests can park on site without a small fee as well! Pro-tip: don't rent anywhere that uses Conservice to calculate their bills. It's a racket and you'll end up paying more than you should for a simple water and sewer bill based on "estimated" use. The residents - I could write a separate review on the people who live here but it comes down to this: they don't pick up after themselves and I don't feel like I live in a building with fellow adults. Dog waste (inside and outside!) is becoming the new normal and no one follows the trash chute rules so the rooms smell and it gets backed up sometimes. Change in management - after nearly a year of managing the building they built Alliance Residential sold it to Equity. There was a lot of miscommunication surrounding that on Alliance's part but I'd do anything to have them manage this building again. Amenities are not kept up, residents aren't kept in order. Tacky signs litter the halls to "ensure the doors are locked behind you" or "you don't slip in the lobby"; at one point someone on staff took a label maker to the elevator buttons. Resident parking passes went missing and were assigned to new residents and, instead of correcting this issue, previous parking spot holders were told "sorry we don't have that on file" despite still being charged for a space. The staff isn't friendly, no one greets me anymore when I come home. There used to be resident events and those don't happen anymore, the times they've tried you can tell they didn't put effort in (an hour long trivia night? Come on guys...) Think of it this way, if Alliance was Nordstrom, Equity is Sears - these cannot be classified as Luxury Apartments anymore. read more

Apartment is nice but the utilities for just water, sewage and trash is about $150 for one person or maybe a one bedroom but I'm just one person so I'm assuming it would be more for 2 with using more water and sewage. They charge you to have the hallways of the apartment building lit too and trash is flat rate of $15 a month which are both crazy. The utilities they blame on the city. Other people I know in the city in new buildings have told me their utility bills are not above $80. I pay electric, insurance and wifi separately so I pay about $250 a month additionally for everything I need extra. I would search hard for apartments and ask specifics about utilities before moving. This apartment has a community board online and people just post about how ridiculous the utilities in this building are lol. If it truly is the city, then not charging for lighting the hallways, decreasing the parking garage rate (~$220 monthly), and not doing a flat rate for trash or incorporating costs into the rent would be better management, instead of advertising lower rent prices and then getting you with the extras. I don't need a reply unless it's that you're going to lower the cost of something. read more

I've been a tenant in the Saxton for a year now, with both the previous management company (Alliance) and the most recent management company (Equity) that took over after the building was sold. I think it's hard for any company to insert themselves in a situation where they're suddenly replacing the faces that everyone is used to seeing day in and day out. While I genuinely enjoyed the people from both companies, I have to say that the Equity team has always gone above and completely beyond for me since day 1. From the beginning, Frankie, Bryson, Madeline and Tom have gone out of their way to ensure my living in this building is as comfortable and carefree as possible, and their organization is definitely an improvement from the previous. And yes, while people on here complain a lot about the package situation (because it is messy at times), it is not the management companies fault that Amazon and other delivery companies just throw things wherever they feel like it. And it's also not their fault that people leave their packages in the delivery room and parcel storage for weeks, which leaves no room for new packages, so they just get placed wherever. read more
