I don't know about you, but swans are a very rare occurrence in my sheltered world so being able to see two up close was awesome! There is a large shelter house in the very back of the park that provides a clean, uncluttered view of Lake Erie. Right now there are Christmas decorations if you're into viewing holiday lights. This is easily one of the cleanest parks I've ever visited. Although it is NOT DOG FRIENDLY, I would encourage you to bring the rest of the family.

Its not very crowded and there are tons of things to do around the area after the beach. Lets start with cons: -Beach is rocky towards the water, sand is nicer the further back you sit. If youre looking for Fairport Harbor raked beach sand, this is not for you. -Water is rocky for about 20' or so out, then turns into sand. -Foot wash was not working, however it has worked in the past. -No showers, but do offer a changing area. -No breakwall, so occasional driftwood shows up, this could be a good thing or bad thing depending how you view it The Pros -Never crowded like the other beaches around -Water is cleaner than other beaches around -Bike and walkable, and a grassy area up top for family parties -Sand walkway to help the Dads wheeling a wagon full of kid toys, chairs, umbrelllas, while the wife holds her stanley cup in one hand and her beach tote in the other. -5min from GOTL -Everyone seems to follow the rules, never an issue there. I swear that this park and the beaches are one of the most underrated places in all of Pennsylvania . It really is a beautiful park. The paved path around the Peninsula is about 13 miles long and you can walk, run, bike, rollerblade, scooter, and walk your dog on that path. As you stroll around the peninsula, you will see the bay on one side in Lake Erie on the other side. Each of the beaches are a little bit different in terrain. I highly recommend beach shoes/water shoes since many beaches are rocky. There are a few natural unguarded beaches, and then there are plenty of guarded beaches for swimming. Most of the time the swimming does not open until noon when the lifeguards arrive. You also need to be cognizant of swimming in between where the flags are located and also staying in towards the shore side of the orange buoys. You can rent chairs & cabanas at some beaches like 6 & 8. You can camp in this park. You can rent pedal bikes on a small pond. You can take several types of boat rides. You can also rent paddle boards and kayaks. You can fish. There are dog, friendly beaches, kite, beaches, etc. We ended up with a stellar weather on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday that we were there. On day one I went to beach three. It was very windy and it was almost like the ocean with the waves. In fact, I don't ever remember the waves being this big on a nice day and you can literally body surf or if you had a kickboard you could definitely body surf in the shore. I spent three hours on beach number three, and the next day I spent three hours on beach number 8. On Tuesday beach six was packed. It was literally like being at the ocean. Although the water was calm that day, and you literally could see to the bottom. You could wear goggles and basically snorkel if you wanted. On our final day, we spent the morning on beach six and we took our dog. Dogs are not allowed to swim in the same area, but humans are swimming. You can have your dog up at the picnic tables under the tree line, but when the lifeguards arrive, you cannot have your dog in the regular swimming area, but there are plenty of other places in the park where your dog can swim in the unguarded more rural Beach areas. There are at least 11 different beaches in the park. Some of them have concession stands and changing rooms and things like that. One beach is made to be handicapped accessible. Keep in mind you're not allowed to climb on the sand dunes. No alcohol is allowed in the park. There is a little restaurant, and also a Thai restaurant inside the park and an ice cream parlor. When you enter the park, you will pass Waldemere amusement and waterpark. I highly recommend Presque Isle & Lake Erie for summer fun in PA!

Recommend coming here on a nice sunny day to enjoy the hike to the fullest. We were greeted with a random encounter by a black rat snake right when we entered. This place is well maintained and offers a variety of aesthetic gardens and trails, along with several benches in each area for you to simply sit back and relax while enjoying the view. The highlight would be the Kalberer emergent tower, featuring a 120 ft structure that offers a panoramic view of the forest and Lake Erie (202 stairs to the top). The Murch canopy walk is also a must-visit spot. This is a 500 ft long elevated walkway that lets you immerse yourself in the tree canopy. We had such a great time here and will definitely be back. Tips: make sure to bring a bottle of water (there is a water refill station in the visitor center), snacks and sunglasses

A Monarch caterpillar was on a milkweed plant, and the milkweeds are everywhere. Love trees? Lots of oak trees and others line the paths. Redwing blackbirds were chirping. In the mornings and evenings I've was told you can see a lot of deer. A shelter is available for group events. There are a few picnic tables under the trees. More tables are needed. There are two ways to access the beach and you are able to walk the length of it, swim, sit ect. Two Rentable campsites and 1 rentable pavilion with heat, water and bathrooms. There is also a separate restroom near the lookout tower. Trails I break down to four. A more open air one that can get hot if walking in the summer. A wooded one that is sheltered by trees, keeping you cooler. The beach trail and a smaller grass trail where you are likely to see butterflies and deer.

The park itself serves as a historical landmark for the Hulett Ore Unloader machine, which was invented in the late 1800's by Clevelander, George H. Hulett, and was used in the Great Lakes during that time. Part of a machine is on display at the park! Also, at this park, there is a Merchant Marine Memorial which pays tribute to notable people who were involved with the harbor. Many of the park benches are dedicated and there is a path where each brick is dedicated to a person, business, or group from the area. Point Park does need some TLC and upkeep, though. There's some trash around and kids have started to deface the Hulett machine with graffiti, which is sad. But, overall, this is a nice, quiet park to enjoy with family, watch the boats go by, and learn some history on the area.
