Located in the downtown area of Hammond, this may be my favorite restaurant in the area and for good reason! The interior has the right amount of lighting to give an intimate feel and there's plenty of indoor seating where tables can be pushed together for large parties. The bar area is also comfy if you're looking to pop in for a glass of wine or a cocktail. Speaking of which, there's plenty of wine by the glass and featured bottle wines. It doesn't have as expansive of a bottle wine menu like other Italian spots but they don't need to as they offer about a dozen wines each from the USA and from the Italy/Spain/Argentina regions. So you'll find whatever you need to suit your tastes. And then there's cocktails. All the classics (Cosmopolitan, Manhattan, Old Fashioned) are here with some Italian favorites like the Negroni. The popular ones amongst us were the Limoncello Spritz (think of a vodka sparkling lemonade), the Espresso Martini, and the Basil Cucumber Gimlet. Tasty and pretty presentations! As for eats, the shareables that are must-orders are the Italian Meatballs (served in polenta w/ spicy tomato sauce), the Calamari, Crispy Brussels Sprouts, and Caprese Salad. These always made the table whenever we were here; the meatballs and brussels sprouts being the ones people couldn't stop eating. The turtle soup is also a good first course if you're going light. It was my first time having turtle soup and I enjoyed the heck out of it! For pastas/entrees, it depends how heavy you want to go. The pastas that we loved were the Fusilli and Casarecce. The Fusilli has a cajun spicy tomato base w/ shrimp, italian sausage, basil, and mushrooms; an excellent combination of ingredients for a delicious pasta dish. The Casarecce is more simple using a parmeson garlic cream sauce and a pan-fried breaded chicken breast on top. For entrees, the pork osso buco, duck breast, and diver scallops were all wonderful. The osso buco especially being super tender was a crowd-pleaser. They also have a filet mignon special w/ a fried potato cake and asparagus garnish finished in a red-wine demi glaze; this special was ordered by several people each time and had all of us oohhh'ing and ahhh'ing every time it was delivered. The filet is super tender and the potato cake is a great complimentary side to it. For dessert, we usually share the house cheesecake which has chocolate chips and caramel with a cookie crust; a perfect way to finish off the meal. That's if we save room for dessert! This spot is a must-visit and a place we plan to frequent whenever we're in Hammond. They also have a lot of gluten-free options in case you have a gluten intolerance. Do yourself a favor and check this spot out; you won't regret it!

I've really gone back and forth about whether or not I should write this review. It appears Joe's…read morehas been an area establishment for quite some time and has a neighborhood following. But the true Yelper in me says I need to write it. I've been passing this place for some time and finally decided to go. It's a large place, simple decor and what appears to be a full bar. Our Server was nice, but had no idea about the items on the menu. I ordered the Chicken Marsala and she got confused about which dish it was and had no idea what came with the chicken. I finally asked if it was pasta and she said yes, so I didn't ask to change that side as I normally would have. My husband ordered a pizza. (Had I known then, what I know now I would have done the same) We were brought out the house made rolls and they looked amazing! They were warm and quite good. Later our food came out and the disappointment began. Let me start by saying the portions were large. I was quite surprised. But sadly the rest of my Marsala was not good. It was a stronger Marsala than usual I think and it literally tasted of black pepper. When I looked at it, I could literally see the large black pepper flakes throughout. The pasta was spaghetti in the brown Marsala sauce. But the chicken was the step too far for me. It has zero flavor, only made worst by the texture. I struggle to describe it, because I don't want to sound mean by using the word that comes to mind but I don't know how else to describe it. I guess the only other way to describe it is slick. The outside of the chicken literally has a slick feel to it. Like a greasy slippery feel /texture. It was like a raw oyster feel. I literally couldn't eat it and it made me feel ill to think about it. My husband said the pizza was "okay. No better than take out pizza." After I tried the chicken, We immediately paid and left. We ended up going to Canes and calling it a night. I gave them 2 Stars because of the Rolls and the "Okay" pizza.

Upon arrival parking was tight and inside was packed, good sign. We were told to give them a minute that they were busy but would accommodate us. We were seated outside after the table was dried off for us. It had been raining earlier. Outside was large and spacey with tables and couch along with tv and some toys for the kids. Service was slow and received numerous apologies along with the excuse they were super busy. They have a good selection of local draft beers. We ordered kids food immediately along with 3 drafts, 2 waters and 2 cokes. Drinks came after a few minutes. Kids food came after probably 20 min or so, kids cheese pizza was piping hot along with kids chicken tenders and fries. Kids cheese pizza was phenomenal. Kids chicken tenders and fries were terrible. Fries were completely over cooked and greasy. Tenders weren't over cooked but greasy and the cheap frozen kind. Service was slow on beer orders and we received the same excuse they were busy. Appeared to only be two middle aged men working. Received a plate of Italian bread and marinara. Both were good, marinara was superb imo. Placed an app order of cheese sticks with our main order and I ordered a house side salad. The cheese sticks and salad came out with the main order. The cheese sticks were substandard and frozen. The house salad dressing was phenomenal and I enjoyed the pecans and roasted peppers. I had the wings, they looked amazing when we first walked in. They were good, not as delicious as I was expecting. The garlic parm was way better than regular buffalo. Parents had a half and half supreme and pepperoni pizza hold onions. The supreme side was lacking peppers. Pepperoni side was good. GF had the Cabrese pizza. It was skimp on chicken but had a decent flavor. Bathroom was small but accommodating considering it's a bar/pizzeria. All in all I gave 3 stars because we were forgot about at times while we were seated outside by ourselves. We had to ask for replacement beers and still were forgotten about. Plus each time we were told the same excuse "we're really busy", but the place cleared out long before we got our food. I will give it another go but will definitely avoid the fried food choices due to poor quality food and stale tasting grease. The outside area for kids was a plus because we all know how toddlers can be.

Not a top 5 bread however, may have been the best part of the meal. Side Caesar - The dressing tasted as if it were out of a bottle and not made in house. It very well could have been however, didn't appear to be. The Parmesan wasn't great quality and also appeared to be out of a bottle or bag. Spaghetti alla Carbonara - Was pretty good. Definitely worth ordering however, not great or anything memorable. Pork Chop - It was accompanied by a sauce and roasted potatoes. The potatoes were average, nothing set them apart from regular roasted potatoes. The sauce was pretty tasty and provided something unique. The pork chop wasn't bad however, not a top 5 or even maybe top 8 pork chop I have ever. Pork Chops are something I order regularly and love to try. Is this place worth trying at least once? Maybe. Would I place it in the top 8 of Italian restaurants in the Baton Rouge/Denham Springs area? No.
