Ely was great! I needed some RO documents that needed to be served and the Sherrif's was lagging big time. As we were approaching the court deadline, I reached out to Ely based on the positive Yelp reviews around 8 PM. In less than an hour, he responded to my message and we discussed how to serve the respondent. Process serving is a very technical. It's not just filing and handing people legal forms. I used Ely at SCA Attorney Services earlier this year to file and serve divorce forms to a cooperative spouse before they left the country. Unfortunately, Ely didn't know that the court wasn't filing forms on the spot so they dropped off the original forms with the court and served an UNFILED copy on the Respondent, in error. This is completely invalid service. As part of his technical knowledge Ely should have known how the court was operating during Covid (I'm an out-of-the-area attorney) and should have known you can't serve unfiled divorce forms. Between communicating with him and both clients about the process I spent 2 hours I'm not going to charge the clients because it's not their fault I picked a process server who wasn't informed. In addition, because the Respondent then left the country as planned and the Hague Convention makes serving them in their country time-consuming and expensive) they had to file a Response for $450 instead. I also ate my time to prep those forms because, again, it wasn't the client's fault. Pros: Ely was enthusiastic and contacted me quickly to provide services. Ely refunded all my fees to him. Con: I ate close to 3 hours of my fees as described above. My clients had to pay an additional $450 in court filing fees for the Response that they wouldn't have if the Petition had been filed and served before Respondent left the country. Ely needs more technical knowledge about what can be served and needs to stay abreast of how the court is operating during Covid (and otherwise). I wish it had turned out better because Ely was nice but I can't use him again because of the cons. read more
