This review is NOT based on the craftsmanship, but rather his lack of professionalism and poor ethics. In May 2020, I hired his company to install a new blacktop driveway and retaining wall. Price was reasonable, done timely, and the finished product was very nice. The pre-existing material removed from my walkway included over 2 tons of timber lumber and massive tree stumps/roots that he dumped on my FRONT lawn! I Had an appraisal a week later, called him to find out when he was removing it and he refused! Claims he didn't have a place to dump debris. This is a licensed business. My contractor also reached out and pleaded with him to haul it away and he became indignant on the phone. Needless to say, I had to hire several day laborers, rent a van and take it to Clarkstown dump site to get it out in time for the appraisal. We NEVER did a contract, but I paid him by check and have reported the incident. It's a violation to conduct business over $500 without one so I reported him to the office of professional practices. Never would have used him if I'd known this.

I will give credit where credit is due his team did a nice job on my siding and roof replacement but after spending tens of thousands of dollars and signing a contract to remodel my kitchen, put in new staircases and hardwood floors throughout my house (that's where I went wrong and the stress began) he offered to redo the roof on my small shed for $450. $450 for something that would have taken 30 mins to do. Really? His team was there, he had the extra material and all the business we contracted him to do he couldn't afford one concession? As we move into the interior remodel things get progressively worse. I could write a book about all the wrong doings but here are some excerpts of the most unbelievable occurrences: Note: you will notice that all communication with Mark was via text as he was never onsite and believe it or not he never even came to see the finished job. The texts are another story, I can't believe that a service provider would say the nastiest, obnoxious thing in writing. I have a huge file - you never know when you may need evidence 1) We agreed on a price to replace my existing flooring in 5 rooms and replace with hardwood floors. Which to me means rip up existing flooring, level and prep floor and lay new flooring. Well it didn't mean that same thing to him. He charged me more $ to remove the existing hardwood floor before lay the new floor (which I paid) and then wanted to charge me more $ to level the floor after he removed the ceramic tiles (which after an unprofessional, nasty ping pong of texts I refused to pay) 2). I wanted my pendant lights centered over my island which the carpenter sketched out on the sub flooring. Well the electrician he contracted missed the mark by 4 1/2" lengthwise and width wise. When I texted him about it he questioned my credibility and said "weren't you there when he was doing the work? ". I guess he thought I should be the acting contractor and pay him for my services. And he demonstrated annoyance about having to fix the problem now that the ceiling was already installed. He viewed this as being my fault. 3. After the hardwood floors and cabinets were installed he installed the kick heater under the kitchen sink cabinet instead of having a plumber do it (cutting corners). Well it sprung a leak that went unnoticed for 2 day; warping the floor. As a result everything had to be deinstalled, new floor ordered and installed - delaying completion a week. 4. Per our contract he was to buy the paint and paint the new kitchen. Since the adjoining room needed to be painted he offered to paint them as well. His painter suddenly become ill so instead of hiring another painter by trade he had a non-trade person paint - he didn't sparkle any hole and when I questioned it he had to text Mark before patching the holes. Mark told him to take pics of the hole because he was only responsible for the new walks he installed so if the hole were in the adjoining rooms he was not going to fix them. What?? If you offer to do a job should you do it properly - I don't think that's unreasonable. Well the guy did it anyway but it was an unnecessary argument. Also I should add the guy showed up with 1 can of ceiling paint - no drop clothes or paint brushes. I had to buy the paint and provide the tools. As per our contract Mark was supposed to install my new staircases, finish the treads and banisters and sparkle/paint the risers (which he charged me extra for). He installed the staircases, and hired someone to finish the treads but didn't sparkle and paint the riser - I had to do it myself and certainly didn't get a refund. When the guy who finished the stair treads he scratched the newly installed wrought iron balusters. When I texted Mark about it he responded with "give me a break with your scratches". In the end 7 balusters has to be replaced and he had to pay.

They installed all new aluminum drip edge and ice and water shield and felt buster synthetic paper for that extra protection that brings comfort and security. The guys showed up early in morning and worked hard all day at a steady pace to have the job completed before nightfall. The guys were very respectful and did an amazing job with the roof and the cleanup. The boss Mark was very pleasant and knowledgeable with response to our questions and concerns. Our pergola on the deck tore away from the siding, taking the siding with it, trashing our deck due to snow damage. All Shawn came to "clean up" the debris two days later. There was still snow on the deck and they placed my table and eight chairs on top of each other on snow that was still to melt - the chairs cost about $1,000 each. They had no regard for our personal property. As the snow melted, the chairs shifted and some fell, causing damage. They pushed some snow off the deck and left it too close to the deck. The day after they left, the weather warmed up and the rain that was expected came. We have never had water in our basement - all of a sudden we had water coming in. As it turns out, the pile they left was now melting and had nowhere else to go, so it was coming into my basement. My son & his friend plowed & shoveled to push the snow away from the house and make a path for the snow to melt away from the house, but could niot touch the All Shawn pile - there were too many small pieces of debris, nails etc... left in the pile. It was too dangerous. All Shawn was made to come back and deal with the debris filled snow pile. They were so haphazard, careless, about it, that my husband had to go out and guide/help to get it done properly. I would not recommend this company. I did not have them come back to do the construction work to rebuild.

I am a handy homeowner who's knows his way around many areas of construction. My experience with the lady at the counter was anything but a pleasant one. I guess the fact that I was dress in office work clothes she assumed I had no idea what I was speaking about. She was short and condescending. I was challenged on trade terminology. When I asked to confirm how many "boards" I ordered, she gave me the number of "studs". I am sorry "boards, not "studs". Her response was and I quote " a 2x4 is a board. It is a piece of wood, so it is a board". I asked her what do you call a 4 x 8 piece of sheetrock. Really? This is your challenging response at 8am. I do everything to support the few small local businesses eft. It's unappreciative attitudes like this that make it hard. Maybe I should have walked across the street to the big store. And that is just the nature of the business, and it's true for many other companies that provide home-related services. We read about David and Greenscapes on another platform where he had received several stellar reviews. We were not happy with our previous two landscaping companies, one of whom still does almost all the homes on our block, for very low prices. But they were not careful while landscaping around our house and we were tired of constant calls telling them about their reckless employees. Or even during fall cleanup when they would bring the neighbor's leaves onto our property, which included plastic bottles and even pieces of litter. Enter David and Greenscapes. We contacted him on Monday, showed him our property on Tuesday, and on Wednesday he brought his crew to do our spring cleanup. His crew made the extra effort over and over again, picking up that one extra stick, pushing the leaves just a little farther than before, and made sure everything was as perfect as possible when they were done. We hope that Greenscapes and David will disrupt the landscapaing industry in our area in a good way. Allison gave me a good price and a 1 year guarantee for repair. Going on +15 months now, fingers crossed: no leaks! Then I hired them again for another leakage where we did not know the source. They could not give me a guarantee and I understood. During shingles removal, his staff pointed out the damp/wet wooden board. Installed new shingles, re-edged the skylight... Perfect Job! They charge a fair price as well. Very friendly and professional staff. His employees are with him for past 20+ years. That says a lot!
