I never knew you could mess up shaved ice, but apparently you can. Unlike other reviewers, our ice was soft and fluffy. My problem was with the flavoring. We had pina colada in one and wedding cake in another. The pina colada had a watered down slightly artificial banana flavor that left an odd flavor in the back of your throat. The wedding cake was a, not so great, mild vanilla. Middle of summer on a Friday evening and they were dead. The owners should think about investing in better flavoring, or quit trying to stretch it by watering it down. Better quality = more customers. Or, better yet, like so many other great snow cone places, try your hand at making your own custom flavors. read more

I never thought you could mess up shaved ice until I came here.. I was attracted by the ship (obviously) but ended up getting basically a chunk of ice that was hard to break into with way too little juice. 2 stars for aesthetics. read more

We try to visit local snow cone places any time we are in the DFW area. This is a great option. We've been here twice during our visit. Their flavors are good (there are 64) and they take credit cards. My only qualm is that they have a menu with smoothies on it but because of some odd city ordinance, they can't sell smoothies at that location. Personally, I think they shouldn't have them on the menu. The three guys working over the various visits were very helpful...even the cute little teen who was only on his second day. Not shaved iced ...more like crushed. Syrup is flavorless. Prefer Bahama Bucks. They should def. consider looking into changing the syrup brand...I wouldn't have minded the ice if it actually had taste. Disappointed! Used to love coming here. Came back for the first time in years and I'm appalled. The most BLAN snow cone I've ever had and I got tigers blood which is normally extremely flavorful. The worst part is after an inch down there was absolutely NO syrup on my cone. A waste of money and I won't be back. read more

Yep, it's a snocone and not shaved ice. And yes, it's fairly average snocones that you're buying from a kitschy pirate ship. And sure, for the connoseuirs of snow there are probably myriad other shacks you could snobbishly drive to. But, for our family, Scallywags is one harbinger of summer, baby! Almost any night, the service is great, the flavors are tasty, and the price is right. I'm a pretty simple man and don't think that I have to find the "ultimate snocone;" we come here because of the fact it's across the street from us and it's f-u-n for the kids. Not to mention how fun it is to meet so many great folks who are gathered for the exact same reason. read more

Average shaved ice for an average price, anyone? How about when it's served from a pirate ship! This place is all gimmick, no substance. If you drive 5 minutes (or less), you'll find at least a couple more places just like this that have better shaved ice for the same price. True, you don't get to buy it from a pirate ship ... but then again these kids working here should have to wear a pirate costume. I'd happily hand my money over to have some high school kid give me my shaved ice looking like Captain Hook. read more

Fun for the kids. I'm not a shaved ice person nor do I eat it. To me it's child's play because it's not creamy enough - great ice cream can be found at nom noms. The ship is cool, but this was the worst snocone I've ever had. I'm not sure if their machine wasn't working properly, but there were huge chunks of solid ice in my cup. One was almost the size of a golf ball. As for the syrup, it was overwhelmingly tart with no sweetness. read more

I have not been here before, but when you get a snow cone and the bottom half is all plain ice with no flavor or syrup, it leaves an extremely bad impression. I would like to know if this is common with this establishment or not... seems pretty bad that you only get a lil syrup on the top half. Arrrrrgghh!! I agree with a previous review: Drive 5 minutes (or less) up Eldorado and you'll find a better snow cone (or three). At Scallywag's the service is super fast compared to other such places. However, the ice was so-so and the syrup was lacking in sweetness. Sounds silly, but yes, the syrup was not sweet. And the bottom 1/3 of the snow cone was white-- no syrup. I ended up throwing it out and chalked it up to a $3 lesson. read more
