Scan Healthcare ADOC. They use a company for orthopedic needs like a wrist band, ace bandaid, wheel chair etc. This company does not answer the phones. I had to go out of pocket to purchase my knee ace bandaid. I reported to Scan and filed a grievance. I wanted an reimbursedment. Denied! Unreasonable! Orthopedic doctors, Physical Therapy, most company's do not except SCAN HMO. The member calls or goes online to get a list of doctors for Physical therapy that Scan provides however, Scan does not remove the doctors, or any business that no longer excepts HMO SCAN. The member goes through the list and calls everyone that is listed only to find they don't except SCAN HMO This is frustrating. Scan, do your job please take the time to remove all companies that do not except your company. Do what I did call them remove their company name. I did it for free you work and get paid to do so. Worst medical transport ever. One time I booked a round-trip and when I called to get picked up to come home, they said that I only booked one way. I had to Uber home, I sent in receipts and I told them since they record their calls for quality assurance, they can make sure that I did book a round-trip. Again, no reimbursement, claimed denied. Another time they said my insurance didn't cover it, which it did, and I had to Uber and spend $120 and then they denied responsibility or reimbursement. Today I had a medical ride booked at 9 o'clock. I called when they didn't show up. They said 10 minutes, they still didn't show up. I called again. They said 10 minutes, no show. When it was one minute before my appointment, I called for the third time and they said no driver had been assigned to me. So I missed an appointment that I had waited two months to get. So Saferide has a lot of big liars in that department. They should rename it stress ride because that's what happens every time. You stress about whether they're going to show up or not. read more

Scan Health Plan has fundamental problem with dental claim appealing procedure. I have been with plan for over 2 years. During the last plan open period, I was notified that everything would be the same as the last year if I didn't want to change. In middle of Feb this year, I went I went to my regular dentist for routine check up and cleaning. I didn't realize that dental insurance provider was changed and my previous dentist wasn't on network. I received the service bill of $185. I reported the problem via Message Center. The response was I need to call member service team and Scan can fulfill my request. Therefore, I made call and the representative of (Hycinthia Badom) answered the call. It took over an hour to communicate all detail to her. She emailed me the procedure for appealing. The procedure is have to mail all materials to SCAN (no online request) Grievance and Appeals PO Box 22644 Long Beach, CA 90801 I mailed all materials as being instructed. Over one and half month, I haven't received any response. Today, I called member service again. A gentleman answered the call. It took over 1 hrs for him get all info he needs. He said he passing all info to a different group and this group can help out. Then, he switched the call to this group. After wainting for more than half hour, another gentleman picked up the call. Apparently, he didn't have slightest idea of my request and needs to cycling whole procedure again. so far, after more than 2 months, a few hours call and a US post mail, I haven't received answer of Yes or No. yes, representatives are quite courtesy. The problem is appealing system is broken: no traceability of the appealing requests. read more

Horrible in every way. Brother has stage 4 cancer and can't breathe, but plan can't provide a specialist within a month. Filed grievance and after that was on hold with escalation department for an hour while she tried find a doctor and then was cut off and had to start all over again. Promised return calls never came. If you are stuck with this plan google how to file complaints and go up the chain. Don't settle for this horrible treatment. Just to get a simple test had to fight and then he had to travel an hour to do it because no nearby technician. read more

Scan Regal Group never commits to anything they claim. Transportation: 24hrs from the time of your call? Wrong. I feel sorry for the ones needing a wheelchair: 48 hrs +++ You ask if you are talking to a manager: they'll said "I'm the person you want to talk to, I'm with management" They have a very small pool of specialists: expect to wait 3-6 months before you get an appointment for an Specialist. On the authorizations, Regal Group will list the Department name - ie. " "Neurology" but won't commit to the Specialty or the Doctor's name - I'm sure they have their reasons for that. Watch for the Doctor's name the clinic's name. When you complain, they will refer you to the same doctor but under another clinics name. They will refer you to Costa Mesa, and swear up and down the office is in Carlsbad. read more

I want to especially commend Member Services agent Anna who went out of her way to get an doctors appointment I missed rescheduled. She spent almost two hours coordinating my doctors office and Uber to make my appoinment at my convenience so I would not lose my outpatient surgery date. She worked Above and beyond what she could have done going by the corporate policy. Great empathy and patience for this senior. Scan should only hire people like Anna. read more

I feel SCAN is kinda shady in ways they operate. Why? Well due to several changes with my previous healthcare plan such as higher deductible and procedures costs plus mix ups on being charged for procedures that should have been billed to my Medicare and dealing with such theses complications and conditions I decided to switch to another option in healthcare. I had never heard of SCAN before and naturally knew nothing about them. After talking to an agent pertaining to the health plan and it seemed everything sounded good I decided to switch. From early into their health care plan I started having problems from them. Even though, I was told that I could keep two of my initial doctors after getting on this plan, I found out none of the doctors were under this particular program which really pissed me off cause I had been seeing my doctors for 4 years and they were very good caring and professional in treating their patients. Once I became a SCAN everything was new all over. Choosing a primary care physician that has no idea how to treat her patients and have a medical staff and receptionist straight out of hell. This doctor is very suspect and I'm not sure that she knows what she is doing which makes it very dangerous when treating patients with serious medical conditions. All she wanted to do was order tests and prescribe drugs but never followed up on anything about how I'm doing taking a new drug or the results from a bone density scan, she ordered me to take. I also recently had my eyes checked by a SCAN ophthalmologist which I was not enthusiastic about him either and since he wasn't talking to me about the pictures taken for my exam and condition of my eyes, I had to ask questions to him. Also the very first day, he makes an appointment for me to see another doctor there as a follow up. Follow up for what! He didn't tell me anything about my eyes period. I decided I will be changing my primary care physician cause she referred me to see him and I don't trust any of these doctors also the ophthalmologist as well. It's time to start fresh with a new primary care doctor and see if she can refer me another ophthalmologist and I just hope and pray, this time things will be better. read more

In general, SCAN is great! However, I just waited 35 minutes to speak to a Member Services person, only to find out that she needed to transfer me to a more experienced person for my issue. The music and words were of a foreign language, so I hung up. My recommendation to SCAN is either to employ more people at peak times, or reduce the number of clients. We were with Scan for a long time and Scripps then we had to switch because they didn't work with Scripps now we have come back to Scan and so far it's a nightmare tried to pay bill on the app. put in user name and password then it wants a 6-digit code that won't go to my phone then ask for phone call no call. Have called several times on this problem,customer service is friendly but useless at fixing this issue. We were glad to be coming back to Scan Health but so far it might have been a mistake at this point I would rate them at -3 stars if I could ( what happened to the great service we once had from Scan ? ) hope they fix the issues and do a better job. read more

I was basically refused even the most minimal of help. At almost 80 years of age, I ended up spending around 3 hours in your store, almost collapsing from exhaustion. Sadly. I tried to reach your corporate office but got little help and could not understand your reps from Columbia, Honduras, and Phillipines...no one would connect me with a US rep. I am THRILLED with having SCAN! No copays and my prescriptions have not cost me extra and I have the BEST doctor as a primary! I had United Health Care and they were horrible. Every time I went to the doctor it was a $40.00 copay and the prescription cost was crazy. My husband worked for PacBell for 32 years and the group insurance used to be amazing and then AT&T took it over and it turned out to be the worst EVER! Wait one thing was good... I was able to go to Loma Linda Hospital in Murrieta when I had a ruptured appendix ... the only good thing. Plus I am getting back $100 per month on my Medicare. read more

I signed up with SCAN Health because of the many provider options and their perceived high ratings. this IS THE WORST medicare advantage insurance i ever had. i chose ingtermountain health as the medical group. i do not know which choice was worse. i went to my first primaru care physician viait as required. NO complaintsn about the doctor. in any cae thbey submitted a claim for an amopunt greater than what the plan pays. Since SCAN Health has a negotiated payment agreement with the provider, thewy could have easily paid the agrewewd up;on amount. Sounds good on paper but claims and approvals are exhausting. One time they approve my supplies the next time they deny them. I have to spend hours on the phone and emails to finally get approval. In the meantime, I have to purchase supplies out of pocket. Also, their Dentiquest provider is almost worthless. read more

Tried several times to get answers about hearing aid benefits. On hold many minutes, calls dropped. Seems the information ive been able get is inconsistent with my audiologist. I thought when I called I would get someone locally - but the calls actually go to India and it is difficult to understand the person and to get acrosss to them what you need help with. Pros: Support is usually responsive, usually you do not have to wait when you first dial in, but they will repeatedly put you on hold later in the call. Website used to be well-designed and functioned well, but then it was redesigned and is now worse than before. Staff is usually quite professional and respectful. Sometimes they will even resolve your issues. People who use SCAN in Southern California seem to be quite happy. Cons: I am using SCAN in the San Francisco Bay Area. My experience here has been disappointing. My name is Brad D and it appears to be the default policy of SCAN to deny ALL payments for all services and then force their customers to fight for each and every penny that they eventually agree to pay. I have had them since January 1, 2026 and out of 4 claims (cleaning, x-Ray, crown replacement) from their own network of dentists, they have denied ALL of them out of hand. No consideration. No investigation with their dentist. NOTHING. So now I have to file yet another appeal. Btw, their appeal department only accepts faxes or snail mail in another effort to make it as cumbersome and difficult as possible to receive the many appeals that their process is designed to create. Additionally, you will never speak to the same person twice because as soon as you hang up, that person is no longer available and will not accept return calls. So trying to follow up on an issue is purposely made more difficult by forcing you to have to tell the entire story again and again and again. IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER CHOICE, I would strongly recommend you take it. SCAN is the worst, most difficult to deal with insurance company that I had ever dealt with. read more

Horrible Customer Service Incompetent Customer Service Insufficient Coverage Lies and Lies There are so many things So I have a Medicare Advantage CSNP (special needs plan designed or diabetics) Insurers get paid more from the government for special needs plans 1) I need to go to an urgent care so I call Scan to CONFIRM that an urgent care near me is in network and they tell me yes. I also go to the website of the urgent care and they list Scan as a company they accept. So I go to the urgent care where y co pay is $0 so my bill should be zero for any urgent care services (this is true with Medicare Plans) About a 2 weeks later I get a bill from the urgent care for $144 so I log into my scan account to look at the claim.. It is not there. The insurer tells me it is PHI (protected health information) and I need to send an information request BUT this is false because PHI can be provided to the actual patient just not others unless requested. I tell them that makes little sense as I can see other claims on your website why not this one. But the CSR insists I must request it via fax....so I do....3 months later I still do not have it I am then told the urgent care was NOT in network so that is why I got the bill BUT they told me it was. So i contact the CEO vis linked in and he has Sonja Franklin call me about this. She tells me she did verify via notes that Scan DID tell me the urgent care was in network and the urgent care did say on its own website that they were in network so Scan would pay the bill She sends me a letter stating that a one time payment of 144 was approved and would be sent out to pay the bill. That was on 07/28 As of today 10/02 I just received a past due notice from the urgent care as the check was never received Not getting back to my C SNP plan I switched to Scan this current year. The CGM (continuous glucose monitor) I have had the past 2 years had always been covered by my prior companies plan. NOT with SCAN....the CGM has enabled me to really control my A1C and with Ozempic and diet my numbers are great However scan will not approve a CGM because I do not take insulin and my A1C is under control In other words I need to be sicker so I now pay out of pocket for it Benefits are only as good as the service you get stay away read more

Just this week Scan says they terminated the contract with the medical group, but I can keep my PCP under a different group. But my eye doctor is not in that group and I am screwed and have to pay out of pocket if I want to see him. They referred me to some hack with a two star rating that is in that group. No thanks. Just got switched to their Scan Classic HMO bc my prior Med Advantage plan closed. They are difficult to deal with - hard to get a live person on the phone - multiple levels of phone bots that can't understand. Most maddening is that they have an absolutely inane "Find A Doctor" lookup - I signed onto their site as a member and there is NO doctor lookup. Called in, they said i have to exit the site and then look it up as if i am not a member. Makes no sense, but , ok, tried that. The doctor lookup shows zero results because it does not work properly. I had to call their help number and after mutiple bots finally got to a very helpful gentleman but even he could not navigate easily on the doctor lookup. It is the WORST user interface i have encountered for a health plan. Think twice before enrolling! read more

If we could give 0 stars we would. The transportation that they offer for members is AWFUL!!!!! They picked up an elderly disabled blind patient for an appointment at our office an hour away. Then.....would not pick the patient up, stating they had no drivers and said I quote "what do you want us to do about it". One of our MD's had to personally drive this patient home over an hour away. Absolutely terrible experience so far in 2026. Switched to SCAN during open enrollment, PCP was approved, then 2nd week of Jan. SCAN switched me to a new provider in a new network, due to their Dec. error. New provider not taking new patients, back to suare zero. Unable to find a PCP with appt. before mid-Feb. SCAN said they could approve specialist appts. for continuity of care, two weeks later SCAN said the medical group won't let them do this. So, no referrals, no specialists until at least mid-late Feb. Had to cancel cancer treatment, as well as eye injection for macular degeneration. Cancer will progress, and after missed eye treatment, eye declines like clockwork. What is the point of getting health care with this company? Contacting our Attorney General for help. SCAN Safe Ride Transportation sent an Uber to pick up my father at home to drive him to his doctor appointment where I was going to meet him. The driver dropped my father off on the street behind the office, not door to door service as requested because my father uses a walker. After checking the doctor's office twice to make sure my father was not inside I walked around the building and found the Uber driver in his car eating. He said my father walked in the opposite direction from the doctor's office! My father did not answer his phone when I tried calling him but I was able to track his location. He ended up at another medical office two blocks away where the staff was kindly trying to help him. In the meantime the Uber driver left the area. I called the transportation phone number 844-714-2218 to complain and was transferred to a call center. They took my information but I'm not sure what will come of that. A few months ago, Uber picked up my father and drove him to the same office without issue so I thought I could trust them again. I was wrong. We also use Safe Ride for wheelchair rides for my mother. I always ride with her so have had no issues other than the drivers sometimes being late. Just don't trust them with your elderly parents riding alone. read more

SCAN Healthplan is an excellent company. I have been a member since 2016 and I've had great care from them. I have Multiple Myeloma cancer and have needed a lot of hospitalizations and treatments at almost no out of pocket expense. They approve my doctor's referral's, and are responsive to my questions and requests. A wonderful Medicare Advantage plan! read more

SCAN's Explanation of Benefits shows that "As of October 31, 2024, you have had $XXXX in out-of-pocket costs that count toward your $XXXX out-of-pocket maximum for covered services for 2024." Since my out-of-pocket shows considerably more than my out-of-pocket maximum, I called SCAN a month ago to find out why. Since I didn't hear anything, I called again today. They told me that my out-of-pocket costs doesn't really mean what it says. They say that I need to go back to my previous EOBs to find charges that they covered that don't count. You can't believe what the report shows? You can't expect them to call back with explanations? The website is slow and obscure. (Have you tried to FIND the EOBs?) I've been a member for five years, but now I have to decide within the next week whether to switch plans. read more

I feel I am in a minority. I was with my company plan until I went on Medicare. I picked Scan since they have my old medical group as part of their plan. The switch was invisible. Same doctors, same clinics, same everything. Only I pay medicare about $170 per month instead of $1,250 per month and I have no co-pays. Never had a problem getting anything, including some expensive name brand prescriptions. Never had a problem reaching them or anything else. A lot of this has to do with the HMO group you pick. The HMO group has much to do with how your plan is administered. Maybe some of you need to get a better HMO group. read more

Today i witnessed a senior waiting in lobby for a Scan Medical Transportation at 10am. When I returned for my scheduled appt at 3p she is the same spot, same wheelchair. I asked her was she still waiting for a ride and she said she only had Scan Medical Transportation. I called, the doctors office had called 7 times. She sat their covered in urine and feces until they pulled up. No van logos, no apologies, just her all wet and soiled. Her appt. Was for 8:45am. Does this even make since? This update is long overdue but I'm happy to report that SCAN handled my issue professionally and in a swift manner. I'd like to give the team credit for trying their best to do right by their customers. Special thanks to Toni, Caroline and Theresa. They were all very polite and pleasant people to work with. I enjoyed being a member for the last 3 years. I never had any issues getting things approved. Their customer service in my area was top notch. Overall, I still have very positive opinions for SCAN.
