I wish that Yelp would have a zero marking. I filed a grievance concerning the non treatment I had received from Dr. Patel and his staff. I was told it would take 30 days for SCAN to send me the investigative findings of my complaint. I had to call them after 30 days to get answers. They finally send me their findings. Paragraph 4 in the letter I had received stated that the Dr. was with another patient and that was one reason he was running late. Case in point: I was informed then by the doctor's receptionist and assistant that they were surprised because he was done with the patient before me and that he did not have another patient after me. This happened after 30 minutes of me waiting. I waited 5 more minutes the doctor never showed up. He did not have the professional decency to come in and at least make himself known. After the extra 5 minutes I was leaving when the receptionist and his assistant were shocked that he still had not come in to see me. They told me that they would go look for him. I told them not to bother. I left. They claim that they offered to reschedule, that never happened. They went looking for him and they told they had seen him around but could not find him. SCAN seems to protect the doctors and I say this because the letter I received from the Grievance Department leans towards them believing the doctor's office, staff included. I do not appreciate the manner in which SCAN deals with such issues. If that doctor did it to me, no doubt he has done it to others. People beware of SCAN. I intend to switch to another company come OCTOBER. I will be informing Medicare about this mess. I have appealed the first grievance report. Lets see if the truth will come out. Way to go Scan! I am a 16 year breast cancer survivor. I have been with Scan for a few years. I require a diagnostic mammogram every year. My co-pay went from 0 to $100.00 this year. Is this how Scan is going to treat cancer patients of all kinds who require diagnostics? Guess I'll start looking for another provider. The co-pay will be $125.00 next year. read more

Every specialist visit is at least 2 visits and 2 higher co-pays plus the time to go twice. My primary doctor recommends that I see a specialist - and when I see the specialist he says - your primary doctor was correct. No, we cannot treat your medical problem until we receive another authorization from your plan. So I have to wait another 2 weeks and pay another co-pay to have the medical issue resolved. read more

flu alert. these guys have worked out a great bait and switch program based on the shortage of flu shots. after being turned down by our primary care provider due to lack of serum, we were sent to our local safeway for shots. at point of sale, the scan card was turned down- no coverage.upon phoning scan we were told to collect our reimbursement from our primary care physician. so watch out, now that you can't find new coverage, the game is apparently on. read more

what happened to all my reviews from last summer? just an update it is now Jan, 2020 and I have still not seen an ophthalmologist scan has done nothing to get this problem resolved. they said they sent a letter to beaver fenix group but still nothing. I changed doctors and had another referral sent again it came back calif eye so I called again if I need surg I would have to go to redlands for measurements as the riverside office does not do this procedure and then it depends on fenix what outpatient clinic I would go to that means a 40 mile one way trip. so my doctors office submitted another referral for me to see a doctor that does surgery here in corona that was two weeks ago I have heard nothing I filed a grievance with scan last summer and nothing was done. changing doctors so I would be with another medical group is no longer an option as I have seen the other doctors and they are unable to handle my medical problems even the specialist they send me to can not figure out a solution to my medical issues. now when I submit this toni will say how sorry she is things have not been resolved and that will be the end of it so toni if that's all you've got don't bother nobody responded when I called and told them of the errors in their report so don't expect anything from this post I want to see some changes not you're sorry this happened. wonder how they get a 4.5 rating from medicare with such poor reviews. read more

Unprofessional and incompetence they scam my grandmother to switch to this pain in the butt insurance and when she actually gave them a try they didn't even take care of her and wasted billable time. With that said she didn't even see a doctor the day she actually had an appointment the front lady told her she needed to signed more papers and to be on a group...what the heck? You guys came and knocked on her door you obviously knew you guys scam an elderly women to switching and promising the moon and stars. With that said she is very unhappy with this place and wants to cancel and she has to write a letter for scan to release her and will take supposedly a process for them to review and accept it. Really??? What is there to accept? She simply wants you out and that's that!! Talked to a rude and incompetent staff by the name of Ariana on the phone today (Ext 5481) to give me a bull of a talk and answer questions with attitude. I loved the plan until I had to use it. They lost some of my paperwork so I could not get a special injection I need. Once they found the paperwork, they said that they were going to treat there mistake as "an appeal." An appeal of what? "We will treat your situation as though you filed an appeal and that gives us thirty days to reply. We may approve or deny earlier but we have thirty days to consider the situation." Thus, every time they want to avoid paying something for cash flow reasons, they simply have to "lose" a sheet of paper for a day or two. Then they can avoid legitimate claims for an additional thirty days! This is, in my opinion, Bad Faith Failure To Indemnify. Of course, once they have enjoyed their month of bad faith and grant me the approval I was entitled to before they lost the paperwork, it's not like I pick up the phone and tell the doctor I'm on my way. It takes another two to three weeks to get an appointment. None of this is life-threatening, of course, but it's painful and pointless. I should endure pain to save SCAN some money? I have been trying since November to change my health plan with Scan from Orange County to San Diego for a 1/1 effective date. I have logged over 6 hours 20 minutes in wasted time on the phone being told it was handled and then to be told it was. Scan would change my doctor but not my plan. So I had a San Diego Doctor and an OC plan. This doctor is not in the OC directory for Scan but at least three people have told me I can use any doctor I want in my plan no matter where they are located if I want to travel that far. I said them as an HMO bound by DMHC and Knox Keene regulations on a 50 mile radius travel to a doctor, I could choose the Mayo Cline doctors as long as they were contracted with Scan and the member services people and someone in Grievance said yes. The reason we changed was because we received a letter from Scan that we needed to switch to the San Diego Scan plans to continue to use the plan. I have received three new sets of cards, 1st one had OC plan and SD doctor, 2nd one had the SD plan listed a signature and not classic as chosen and the third one came with the correct information finally with an effective date of 2/1 not 1/1. Now I am being told that the 2/1 is for the PLAN and the 1/1 is for the Doctor. I am so done with this. read more

I at one time was very satisfied with Scan Regal Medical Group. I have been deceived, Lied to about my Orthopedic Dr., said he did not renew his contract and is no longer in the net wt I am currently being denied essential services. I would like to know how to find them Legally Responsible for the pain and suffering I have because I am being denied effuxa a injectable medication, that I have previously used. They don't give a care about you and your care. They have denied me services 1.5 miles from my home and tried to send me to Encino for Radiation Therapy a 4 hours round trip by bus. (daily treatment for 4 weeks) I guess it was equatible distribution of service for the Plans sake and no concern for me as a patient, the Doctors that are important to me are great, one of which may be leaving, my Cardiologist, Orthopedic , and primary care doctors are great, its the PLAN Administrators who make this plan HORRABLE. read more

I will give four stars solely only for the communication I've had with SCAN representatives, like Luisa Marie who has been no less than WONDERFUL! She resolved the problem that I had with my mother's primary doctor on trying to get her medications filled. She managed the situation in a professional and timely manner. I want to thank her for saving me more lost time and patience. She contacted me and provided me with an update then a resolution to my issue that same day. Thank you Luisa Marie! I wish I would have given 5 stars yet, I do not have SCAN but my mother does and thus far the primary doctor she has been seeing for her regular follow-ups and just recently with a Dermatologist, have been a nightmare. Her primary doctor is terrible when it comes to contacting a live person by phone in that doctor's office and the visits are shorter than a fast food drive through but its the closest one to her. The Dermatologist prescribed her Oil of Olay lotion for dark small bumps that she has been having in her skin for over three weeks now. The Dermatologist neither provided her with information about her condition or why she decided to prescribe a lotion to bumps that would not go away with other treatments my mother has already undergone. From my mother's account, she was left in the room and the Dermatologist directed further instructions to her medical staff. I wish there was a little bit more professionalism, accountability for actions not taken and regard for patient's right to know and be informed about their conditions. read more

As an employer, I say run away. If you want to be a lonely outcast then this is the place for you. They DO NOT foster a team atmosphere and the management staff is horrible, as they are condescending and do not create an environment for growth. Alot of what they promise you in the interview is false and alot of their processes are in the ice age. There is no sense of cohesiveness there and the turn around times for employees are horrible. I couldn't believe how they quickly came and went suffering from the same thing I did. As an employee you will easily loose the motivation to work. I just don't like it here and I am glad I got another job. Scan gets an F. read more

The doctor and his office is fine, but I have been trying to collect a promised $65 refund after paying $85 at an preauthorized urgent care center since the middle of June, 2014. The latest contact was with someone who said that she would find out what the problem is and call me back in 30 to 45 minutes. That was Monday, 10-27-14. Still no call (Wed. 10-29-14). My three attempts to call them resulted in no answer. Not a message center -- just no answer. Seems that my number is blocked! Upon calling the medical group of my doctor, I was told that Scan likes to put patients off like this when money -- even trivial amounts -- are owed. Unbelievable! It looks as though the majority of the complaints about SCAN are coming from the L.A. region but down here in Oceanside (San Diego county) my experiences have been very positive as I have acquired my PCP and specialists through Scrips. I was with Kaiser for a while but had to drive more than twenty miles to San Carlos to see any specialist. I have dealt with United in the past and it was a nightmare and they have one of the highest paid CEOs in the industry. The only complaint I have about SCAN is the delay to see a specialist due to requirement to be notified by snail-mail. They need to get with the computer age and approve specialist requests electronically. Other than that, I think I will stick with SCAN. read more

SCAN was our Medicare Advantage insurer in Arizona. In Oct 2015, my 89 yr old husband choked, couldn't breathe, and was taken to Emergency at Banner University hospital where he was treated and then released. SCAN withdrew from the state of Arizona in December 2015--months after this event. It is now May 2016, and SCAN has still refused to pay the emergency fee from October 2015 even though they admit he was covered. there is no star to give to this company when I enrolled I was told by the sales representative that if I need a specialist no referral was required. I have yet to use my insurance but I been having problem with my back and when I went to see a chiropractor in which I paid out my pocket ,upon taking x ray these are the findings I have a pinch nerve in my neck and a fractured spine I attempted to schedule an appointment with an orthopedic surgeon and I was told that I did need a doctor referral as required by scan - I attempted to set up an appointment so that I can secure the referral since the 6th. of July the soon I could get one is the 18 July and my request was to have a full check up, as well a referral for a specialist for my back , I been told that I have to choose to either get a referral to the specialist or check up .and the next appointment as of today will be on August 1st. and of course I have a co pay each time this is crazy. furthermore when I called scan the person who talked to me told me that the doctor that they assigned to was not with them the person could not locate the assigned doctor in their file - As a senior I find this situation unacceptable and outraged- Shame on you feel free to contact me read more

My experience with Scan was horrific. The doctors in their health plan kept putting me off with one excuse after another. I kept asking for a referral to a Orthopedic doctor as my right knee was swollen twice it's size and was extremely painful. I was put off again and again. Finally my PC doctor told me that I HAD to have a cortisone injection before I could be referred. I told the doctor that I didn't do well with cortisone but I finally agreed so I would be able to see a Orthopedic dr. Within a week I was in the ER with a septic knee. I had tried to call my PC doctor and the receptionist either told me that she wasn't in or sent me to voice mail and the calls were never returned. In the ER he Doctor told me that I was critically ill. A Orthopedic doctor cleaned my knee and purposely took out my meniscus. I was told this by the Infectious Disease Dr who was in the OR with the Orthopedic clown. I spent a week in the hospital and then was transferred to a recovery convalescent owned by guess who the orthoped doctor. O yes he was the husband of my PC.....When I went home I was on IV antibiotic for a month. A nurse came to my home every day to change the IV. When a new enrollment came around I went back to Medicare, why? I wasn't ready to die yet even though I am a senior citizen. I have more horror stories about friends and relatives dealing with Scan. My sister was taken off her Coumadin and died from blood clots in her heart and lungs. My friend from an organization I belong to died of a heart attack because his Scan doctor couldn't figure out what was wrong even though my friend knew it was his heart and he simply gave up. He was dead 3 weeks later. Another friend started to complain of severe pain in her abdomen. Her Scan doctor allowed her to have a colonoscopy in January, 2015 and the results were good no polyps. The pain continued, I begged her to get rid of Scan but she wouldn't. They put her off and put her off. Finally in August of 2015 they did a cat scan. They put her off and put her off with the results. I finally begged her to let me accompany her to the doctor. This was in November.The specialist was on vacation and moved up the next appointment once again. We went to see her PC doctor together. I told the PC that if she couldn't give us the results of the cat scan that my friend and I were going to go to the lab and I would tell her the results. The PC said that she would ask for a copy and give us the results. The doctor left the room and returned in a few minutes. (not the time it would have taken to get the results from the lab) She returned to the room and said "I am afraid I have bad news. The disease has spread to her liver". She then asked me if I knew what that meant. I answered that it has Metastasized to her liver. She said yes. That Friday we returned to the Specialist and he gave us the same information again. I interrupted him and said "You mean cancer don't you?" He nodded his head. By this time the pain was unbearable. He gave us a prescription for Norco and told us that she could go to the ER on Sunday. I asked if he couldn't see how much pain she was in. He finally said if it is too bad go in this evening but make sure you go to the ER I can't have you admitted. One month later she was dead. I hope and pray that one day Scan will be held responsible for all that they do against seniors. You may ask why hasn't anyone sued them. Families are in too much pain, I personally didn't want to have to go through the humiliation and battle that I would have had to wage. I did ask Medicare to allow me to see different Orthopaedic Surgeon but I was denied by Scan and Medicare. read more

After two years with Scan, My plan was discontinued. I search their plans and found one virtually the same. My agent spoke with Scan, since my hearing is extremely poor. I received a complete application to re enroll in Scan. Why? I called and after 15 minutes of music, I tried a different number for members. After 10 minutes I spoke with a representative. She could not understand that I have a hearing disability. She also kept trying to over speak me and not listen to my concerns. I could not understand why after two years, I needed to completely reapply for membership. My agent had spoken with Scan 6 days earlier and informed me everything was changed and I did not have to do anything. I found myself telling the representative to shut up, I was the customer without she would not be employed. I finally hung up and have decided to seek a different program, higher rated, with better service. I hope this makes others realize Scan is only in this for the money, not their customers. read more
