Over the years I have stopped into Scanlon Jewelers for various things. At one point I wanted some of my yellow gold rhodium covered in order to make it appear white gold. I've made various purchases along the way. I looked at my ring recently an realized that the head that held my center stone needed to be replaced. Over the years it wore out much like the tires on a car. I stopped in to have them do that work for me. The service was very polite and efficient. The knowledgable staff has been the same ,I assume because it's a family group. The repairs are done on site in the workshop that you can see from the show room. They have at least six jewelers/repairmen full time there. My ring was ready a week from drop off. I picked it up and again the service was polite and welcoming. I noticed later that there was something that needed an adjustment and I broke my pearl necklace, so I stopped back. They were very happy to do the adjustment and restring my pearls and the turn around was very efficient. Every staff member each time was friendly and helpful. Even when it was busy or couples got engaged there. It's a joy to have a local family business here in a time of chains and on line shopping. I took 2 watches to have the batteries replaced to Scanlon Jewelers. The gentleman that took care of my request was very personable. He took both watches and brought them out in less than 5 minutes. I paid $20 less to have both batteries replaced than Express Jewelers at the Galleria Mall was going to charge for 1. If you ever need your battery replaced, check out Scanlon Jewelers. I could have cried when I had my wedding rings engraved at Scanlon's. We were searching for a jeweler who could engrave our wedding bands with our initials and the wedding date. We were told by who I presume to be the owner that he could do the engraving job no problem. Our bands are really thin, so we were concerned about whether or not an engraving was even possible. The "owner" assured us over and over that he was the only jeweler who had the skills and experience necessary to complete the job. He also gave us a good price and promised to have the rings done before the wedding. We decided to go through Scanlon's for the engraving and, three days before the wedding, we went to pick up the rings. A lady brought the rings out for us. We were so excited to see how beautiful the engravings would look! What we saw instead was heartbreaking. The font was this ugly, block font. The initials and date weren't centered on the ring. And, what's worse of all, the writing was crooked and half of the date on my ring was cut off! The lady took one look at the rings, said, "oh, no, no! This will not do!" We couldn't believe that this fine jeweler would even allow for such a shotty job! The lady brought the rings to the back room (which had a glass wall so we could see her talking to the "owner.") The "owner" came out with the rings and asked if there was a problem. We explained how the rings looked. He looked at the rings under his fancy microscope. He thought the rings looked great! And he could definitely read the date just fine. We reiterated about the crookedness and how the date was cut off. He finally said that the engraving looked that way because the rings were too thin (which he previously said was not a problem!) and that is the best they could do with aligning the rings in the engraving machine. He also said that this was actually better than most jobs and everyone takes their rings and don't care if it looks like this. My natural response was, of course, that I am not everyone. So he gave me two options. I could take the rings how they were and pay the full amount or he could reverse the engravings for free. I took the second option! We finally got the rings back a day before the wedding. Although they were able to successfully reverse my ring's engraving, my fiancee's ring looks like Swiss cheese. We also ended up getting charms engraved at Things Remembered and attached them to the rings, which actually looked really cute! I am more so upset about the "owner's" attitude about the whole issue than anything else. What made me the most perturbed was his quote that "that is the best job that anyone in the whole world can do. The only way to get the rings engraved is by a hand engraver and every hand engraver in the world is dead." So, if you happen to be friends with someone who hand-engraves jewelry, you might want to check up on them... read more

I can't say enough good things about Scanlon Jewelers. I had an idea for a custom pendant which wasn't quite fully formed, so after a consultation with Jeff the Artist, he create a wax up for me to approve. It was perfect! It turned out absolutely amazing, but my mother always told me I was 'persnickety ', so I wanted a few changes once I saw it. Jeff added a larger diamond, and a different custom bale, the result being gorgeous! I have never seen such a piece, and the craftsmanship is the best ever. Most importantly, no one gave me any grief about changing anything, my ideas were welcomed and made to happen, quickly! I typically don't like jewelry stores. I usually don't feel like I can trust the person behind the counter. It always bothers me that the prices are never shown, and whenever you do ask what something costs, they take out the calculator and start punching in a bunch of numbers and then tell you that they can offer you a deal. Really? Why not just make that the price then? Am I that awesome? When I was shopping around for my wife's engagement ring, I went to several local jewelers. My wife has an allergy to something in white gold (I think the nickel used in the plating?) so that really limited my choices. I couldn't afford a platinum band so I really felt like I was between a rock and a hard place. When I went to a few of the other local jewelers, I explained my situation. They all said the same thing: sorry she can't wear white gold, so either buy her gold (which she doesn't like) or buy platinum. Not much help. So I started researching on the internet, and found that paladium was a metal that was often substituted for nickel for those with allergies. I went back to those same jewelers and asked if they had any paladium rings and a couple just looked at me like I asked if they've ever seen Bigfoot and the other just told me there's "no such thing". I stopped by Scanlon one night after work. When I walked in, I was immediately greeted by Tim, who is one of the jewelers that crafts custom jewelry there. I explained to him the situation, and he told me he would look into making a paladium ring for me. He called me back the next day and told me that he could do it, although he admitted he had never done one before in pure paladium. He also told me that it would cost me a little more than white gold, but less than platinum. I told him let's do it. Sure enough, about two weeks later, I had a beautiful paladium engagement ring to pop the question with. Tim also crafted a matching wedding band. My wife absolutely loves them, and loves that everyone compliments them all the time. Months after the engagement and wedding, she noticed that her wedding band and ring had some small black carbon spots in the little round diamonds in the band itself (baggetts, I believe they are called, although I'm sure I butchered the spelling), and Tim replaced them free of charge. When it came time for me to purchase my wedding ring, I really liked the tungsten and titanium rings. We of course went back to Scanlon. Again we talked to Tim and I told him what I wanted. He told me that the tungsten and/or titanium rings were very popular, but the markup was ridiculous because the rings were basically all cut from a simple pipe - like the kind you use for plumbing. So for $300 or so, I could pay for a ring that I could get for $2 at Lowes in the pipe fitting section. He told me that they carry them because some customers come in and insist they want that type of metal, so of course the customer is always right! I really appreciate Tim's honesty and candor. Another great thing about Tim is that when we'd tell him what our price range was, he never once tried to "up-sell" us. He always stuck to our budget or below. After that, we went to a well-known jewelry store on Transit Road in Clarence, and they had the same rings - for $500 more than what Scanlon would charge. Five. Hundred. Needless to say, I called Tim back and told him to order my ring in white gold. It was right at the price we wanted to spend, it had the look that I wanted, and we ended up paying a hell of a lot less than for the same ring in tungsten or titanium and I ended up with a very manly-looking wedding ring in white gold. Now I see those Tungsten Carbide rings all over the internet for $20! Thank you Tim! I also wanted to mention that I stopped in once to see if I could get any money for an old gold ring that was my fathers. This time I dealt with Todd directly (the owner). Todd offered me three times what those "Cash-for-Gold" places did including that annoying place that's always on TV locally (yes that one). I asked him why - he told me that as a jeweler he needs gold to make jewelry for his customers. If he orders from a supplier (which would include those Cash-for-Gold places that buy your gold, melt it down, then resell it to local stores like his), he pays a markup. By paying me in cash about 10% less than what he would pay from a supplier, he gets cheaper gold and I get more cash. Win-win. I absolutely recommend Scanlon's Jewelers. They are honest people, their prices are very fair, and most importantly to me, their service and advice before and AFTER the sale is top notch. read more

Definitely the best jewelry store you will ever find! My fiancé and I went there to look at some ideas for an engagement ring and I loved all his selections. My Fiance gave him a price range and he stuck exactly to it. The diamonds were beautiful that he showed us and he knew what we wanted. He was somewhat on a strict budget so Todd (the owner), helped me pick out the perfect diamond that looked beautiful but wasn't outrageously priced. My diamond has very few flaws and sparkles like crazy. After we went to Todd, we went to other jewelry places and when we told the other people what Todd was selling his high quality diamonds for compared to their high prices- they almost fell outta their chairs. The price for a white gold band at one place was the same price as my entire ring! Todd was very good with helping my fiancé set up a payment plan and we even rent an apartment from him now! He is very loyal to his customers and make sure we get good quality for what we are paying! They are very honest people and don't try to scam you. We waited and are still waiting for a call, email or any response to when and if you ever got the certification that you were going to order on the stone in question. I stopped in a few times and you had still not received anything. You insisted you needed the diamond to send to whoever to get the papers. You also wanted to take the stone to have it acid dipped I believe it was called. To our surprise, we went to another jeweler and got the papers right away. The information is not the same as the appraisal you wrote. The second appraisal that is, the first one you wrote without the stone. At this point we are unsure how to handle this. We do believe you owe my son money back for a less than the quality of stone represented. The ring was bought in June of 2015 and we were in touch with you as soon as we saw there was a problem when she got the ring back from being sized and noticed the flaw. I took a ring here to get sized after my boyfriend ordered it for me and realized it was too big. When i first got there the woman behind the counter was very rude and gave me a lot of attitude for needing to get my finger sized. The ring was a size 7 and she figured i needed a 6 so i left the ring with them and was told it would be ready the next day. When i got there the following day i tried it on and it was still too big and not even close to feeling like the ring she measured my finger with. When i told the same woman from the day before that it was too big she gave me just as much attitude and said "yeah i told you it would be too big". She made me feel like it was MY fault that they didn't size it right. I told her i'd wear it for a few days and then come back if it didn't feel right. I came back two days later and without even greeting me she says "guess it was too big huh?". She measured my finger again and told me i needed a 5 1/2 instead of a 6. When i tried the 5 1/2 size on it felt pretty tight the way i wanted it so i agreed. I was very hesitant to leave it with her again but thinking they couldn't screw it up again, i left it. I came back two days later to pick it up and it was STILL too big. I dealt with a different woman this time and i just told her it was fine and left so I could take it elsewhere. I couldn't leave my ring with those people again. The customer service is probably the worst i've ever experienced. I will not be going back. read more
