I couldn't be more pleased with the job Travis did on the flower arrangements for my wedding. He completely brought my vision of pink ombre, tropical flowers to life, without breaking the bank! He had a knack for understanding exactly what I wanted, then exceeding my expectations. For example, instead of putting the tall floral arrangements in plain old vases, he used vases with rhinestone accents and ambient lighting in the base. Travis also showed my husband and me free sample floral and candle arrangements before the wedding, and even let me keep my sample bouquet, which lasted for over a week. On the wedding day, the staff promptly delivered the arrangements, bouquets, and boutonnieres to three different venues (my house, the church, and the Adler planetarium) without a hitch! read more

We worked with Esther and had a wonderful experience. At our first meeting with her, I came with a hodge-podge of pictures and ideas and Esther sat with us for a good 3 hours sifting through everything to wittle down the ideas and come up with a plan. I wanted something different and centerpieces that wouldn't "compete" with our venue (the Chicago Cultural Center) - Esther really understood my vision even though I couldn't find the words to articulate it sometimes. She was very responsive to emails and invited us into the studio to go over the revised plan when I decided to change the centerpieces. She is a true artist and you can tell that she has a fantastic eye - in many of my emails back and forth with her, I couldn't make decisions on things, so I'd just say, "please do what you think looks best, I trust you." I could not have been more pleased with my flowers on our wedding. I actually started to tear up when I saw my bouquet and my BM's bouquets and my eyes welled up again when I saw the reception room for the first time. This review is long over due, but my experience with Scarlet Petal and Esther was so great that I must share. While planning a wedding you get suckered into thinking that everything that is super expensive must be better and that if you are not paying top price for whatever you are a bad bride. In the long list of wedding expenses, flowers were not my highest priority. (although I was told by several florist that they should be) Of course I wanted them to be beautiful and perfect etc, I just didn't want to spend my bonus on them. From the moment I walked in to meet with Esther I was in love, she was calm, super sweet and really really great to work with. She was not pushy, she understood the budget, and gave me amazing flowers. She allowed for me to buy my own vases, which lowered the overall cost and I let people to take the beautiful flowers home. All night long I received compliments on the center pieces and my flowers. This was one wedding vendor I did not have to worry about and since then I have recommended them to everyone I know. read more

I am really sorry to say that after two attempts to contact this florist, I decided I need to review them. I first filled out the inquiry form on their website. No response. After waiting almost a month to receive a response, I then emailed the address listed on their website. Still, no response about 2.5 weeks later. It is a shame because I was 95% sure I wanted to use them for my wedding next year after having seen all of their work in various pictures. I have since decided to go with another florist that had similar work and a great price point. Very unprofessional and disappointed. Can I give Jenny at Scarlet petal 10 stars? Cause I would! Going into my wedding (which was March 2009), there was three requirements for my flowers: 1. Not dead...but maybe some of those decorative branches. 2. Surrounded by lots of candles. 3. No roses In the end, I ended up with lots of candles, lots of roses, and no sticks. And I couldn't have been happier. I honestly had a lot to learn about wedding flowers. Jenny couldn't have been more patient and understanding in teaching me and showing all the possibilities of my wedding/reception venue had and what flowers would work best. Our trial at our venue worked out perfectly, and we were able to work out the minor changes. Jenny was a great listener and was VERY quick to respond to questions, concerns, and thoughts we had leading up to the big day. As for the big $$$ question, Jenny completely worked within my budget and was pretty flexible. Compared to the other quotes I got in the city and in the 'burbs - I got a steal. As for the big day - compliments were a plenty for EVERY floral aspect. Also, what staff I interacted with on the day of (the delivery girl) - very kind and cool. I cannot say enough about how much I loved my florist. I was a super decisive bride and knew exactly what I wanted right when I walked in so we did not have much contact during the planning process. When I did have questions or I forgot to add a nosegay or something of that nature, Esther was quick to respond and get back to me. Where she really stood out was on the day of the wedding. We had decided to save money by constructing our own Chuppah (This was the only DIY that we did for our ENTIRE wedding - in retrospect there is/was a reason that I don't DIY) We purchased bamboo poles and used Plaster of Paris to anchor them in buckets that were wrapped in satin that matched our bridesmaids dresses. The covering was my husband's late grandfathers prayer shawl. Well when we made it at home it worked. Day of, not so much, apparently every time they tried to get the prayer shawl up it brought the whole thing down. I had no idea this was happening and somehow Esther made it work, she had someone go out and get her fabric and worked her magic and got it up. If they wouldn't have been able to, it would have been devastating to my husband's family to not have that aspect of his religion in our wedding. So thank heavens for whatever she did to make it work! The flowers themselves were amazing, exactly what I envisioned, all blue hydrangea's, NO filler, mixed high and low centerpieces. We walked into see the room before the guests were allowed in and I kept saying Holy shit, is this my wedding?? I then proceeded to swear like a truck driver, because that's what I do. It was good swearing because I LOVED it. My bouquet was exactly what I wanted, the ribbon on it was a little on the whiter side when I was all in Ivory so Esther ran and grabbed different ribbon and fixed it in a matter of minutes. I decided to work with Scarlet Petal because of my initial meeting with Esther. We spent over an hour together and I felt like she took all the ideas out of my head. At the same time I also felt like she knew my venue back to front and was able to explain the productive changes she wanted to make to my vision based on the limitations, lighting and color of the space itself. Esther was also able to put together a detailed proposal while sticking to our small budget. Once we saw the sample of the tall centerpiece we knew that the flowers for our wedding would be spectacular! Everything was beautiful on our wedding day! I could not have received more compliments regarding all the flowers. Scarlet Petal also decorated the poles of our chuppah which were just plain metal poles. The chuppah looked completely transformed with just the smallest addition of decorating the poles with leaves and flowers. I'm met with Esther from Scarlet Petal on a recommendation from my photographer, Amanda Hein. I've been working with Esther for my wedding next May, and she is absolutely wonderful! During our initial meeting, she sat down with me for well over an hour to make sure she fully understood everything I had in mind for the flowers. She would even bring out some samples of certain flowers she thought might be nice if I didn't recognize them by name, which I found very helpful. Esther also made sure to ask what our budget was and definitely stayed within it. She made sure to include everything that was important to me and kept out everything I told her I didn't want (no haggling). When I was undecided about a certain flower that would increase the budget significantly, she told me she'd be happy to draw up two separate proposals - one with the special flower and one without - so I could make the call if it was worth the added price. Esther was also very insightful in terms of which types of flowers would last longest in the bouquets and which would be better in water as centerpieces (which I honestly hadn't even considered before). When I left, I felt very certain that we were on the same page and knew that I could trust Esther fully to do a great job. She told me the proposal would take about a week, but I received it in less than 48 hours, which was great! It included a very detailed description of everything we'd discussed, listing specific flowers to be used in various arrangements, and it included the price variation we'd discussed in regards to using the expensive flowers or not. I initially wrote Esther back, telling her we'd like to go with the less expensive quote (without the special flowers) and she immediately sent me a contract to that effect. But of course, being an indecisive bride, I later changed my mind and asked Esther if she could revise the contract to include the extra flowers. She again did so very quickly and with no complaints! I used the Scarlet Petal for my wedding this past August and I couldn't be happier. I can't say enough good things about them. After meeting with several florists about my then-upcoming wedding, I felt like I was taking crazy pills or something. One was was way too much --even after given my budget they quoted me at two times the price-- the other was well within my price range but it looked like the flowers might be DOA on my wedding day. With The Scarlet Petal I found one that was just right. The flowers are top-notch at reasonable prices. I worked with Jenny and from the second I met her she made me feel comfortable. She had flash cards with every kind of flower imaginable to aid in our discussion. I had no idea what I wanted, but she was somehow able to find my taste. When the price was a little too much for my comfort, she reworked the entire quote to make sure we were well within my range. The day of the wedding the flowers were delivered right on time and the girls were super helpful in showing my mother and his mother how to wear the beautiful wrist corsages (attached with a ribbon) and pinned on all the boutonnieres for the groomsmen. They even added touches to the venue such as flower arrangements in the bathroom and petals on the bar. They did say that they would do this in the contract, but my expectations were far exceeded by the quality and quantity of the arrangements. You can't go wrong with these gals. Scarlet Petal did a wonderful job with our wedding. I sent over the basic color scheme and look I wanted to go for and Lee sent back a detailed description of each centerpiece, bouquet and miscellaneous items (boutonnieres, extras etc.). She set up a sample showing which was extremely helpful considering its hard to picture what a bunch of flowers will look like together. I wanted a few changes made and Lee was happy to accommodate. On the wedding day, the bouquets and boutonnieres stayed strong all day during pictures and through the ceremony. I received numerous compliments from guests about how gorgeous the flowers were and what an elegant feel they gave the venue. The votives and floating candles were also a very nice touch. After the wedding, my mother in law wanted to repurpose some of the centerpieces for our brunch and rather than strike all the flowers as they normally would, Scarlet Petal put the flowers into portable containers (that still looked very nice), refrigerated them overnight and delivered them to the brunch the next day. We paid slightly extra for this but it was well worth it and clear that they were going above and beyond what had originally agreed on. My only minor complaint was a few of the flowers in my bouquet and husband's boutonniere came out purple (my color was blush pink). When I met with Lee for the sample showing she said she would not put in those flowers if they came out purple on the wedding day. I know that its tough call to make when we agreed upon a price and certain types of flowers and I understand they may not come out exactly how you want but it did bother me to have purple mixed in with blush when nothing else in the wedding would have that color. Despite the color, they were still mixed into a beautiful bouquet and looked great overall. read more

I hired Scarlet Petal to do the flowers and decor at my wedding at Cafe Bruer this past September. There are some very positive things to say, but also some problem areas to mention. First, let me say that the event turned out beautiful - we were pleased with the end product. Also, our day-of manager, David, was a treat to work with, very friendly, upbeat, positive, accommodating. They were on time with delivery to the hotel and very helpful. We also had a great experience in initial meetings with another designer who listened to our ideas and made suggestions. On the other hand, there are some things to consider before booking SP. The prices are substantially higher than other florists we met with who I believe would have done an equally good job. I felt like every time we wanted to make even small changes, there was a nickel and dime-y atmosphere, and their minimum for summer/fall weddings seems pretentious. So, be prepared to invest quite a bit in floral. Second, for what we paid, I found it ridiculous that we could not take the centerpieces (at least) home with us. The cost of these items was high, and I felt we should have been able to keep what we wanted considering plain glass hurricanes are relatively inexpensive. As another reviewer notes, they charge a fee to pay with a credit card which seems out of date and unreasonable for the amount you're spending there. Finally, the trial you are allowed is skimpy (only one item out of all you've ordered). When you're investing thousands, you should be able to see samples of more than just one item. As a a bride, it's important to know what not just the centerpiece will look like, but bouquets or other key items as well. Overall, I can recommend the end product at Scarlet Petal - they do a lovely job. However, beware your budget and the constraints they choose to put on you as a business with "preferred vendor" status at high end venues. Also realize that unless you have a very firm idea of what you want and are prepared to stick to your guns, you may be sort of bullied into having what they think is tasteful. read more

She quickly whipped up a new one for me. I was very impressed with her work and style. To top it off, Esther is a delight to work with. Many of my guests complimented the decor. I don't know how they did it, but they created stunning flowers on a meager budget and with no direction. When I first met with Esther, I knew nothing about flowers, nor did I know what I liked. She patiently sat with me as I went through books and asked me "Do you like A or B better?" Somehow, from 30 minutes of that, she was able to create the perfect bouquets and centerpieces for my wedding at the Newberry Library. Scarlet Petal also supplied the mandap and accessories for our half-Indian, half-Western ceremony, and it was not only stunning, but half the price of renting a mandap from another vendor. On the day of the wedding, Esther was on maternity leave, but Juno stepped in flawlessly. When they dropped the bouquets off at my hotel, they were not only right on time, but SO cheerful and friendly, bringing each piece to me as I sat getting my hair done. I met with several florists before deciding on Scarlet Petal. They really understood my vision for my wedding (lots of candles, ivory floral & mercury glass/gold/silver accents) and helped me work within my budget. The cost was reasonable, based on what other florists had quoted. On the day of the wedding, my designer Lee showed up early & showed us the floral, including an important sentimental piece for me. Everything looked GORGEOUS. The tables looked like we'd discussed - I was very pleased. One small mishap - we'd agreed on mercury glass votive candleholders to accent our tables. Everything was lit for the start of cocktail hour. About 30 minutes into cocktail hour, my caterer came to let me know that the votives were causing small fires on my tables and they were removing all of the votives. Thankfully, my venue had votive candleholders to spare so the tables didn't look bare. But I was really surprised that I never received a follow up from anyone at Scarlet Petal after the wedding after they came to pick up the burnt votive holders. read more

The bouquets, the boutonnieres, the table arrangements and all the little extras were so amazing words cannot adequately describe their beauty. I'm not sure how Jenny got in my head (full disclosure, the is not Billy B but his wife), but she took my very vague vision and put together flowers for the day that were even better than I had imagined. And, to boot, she was fantastic at working within our budget. She continuously updated her proposal with each change that we requested. So there were no surprises. I first met Esther last fall when she was setting up a wedding at a venue I was considering (and ultimately chose). I was clueless about the floral and decor issues and she helped guide me. She was really flexible in changing around our plans as I learned more about what I wanted and what I liked. Esther was really helpful in working within my budget without sacrificing what I wanted, and really worked to understand my vision. Prices were less for more product than at a few other places I looked at. I visited the studio a few times over the winter and spring-- not a fancy showroom but very practical. In the spring/summer, they always had tons of flowers being prepared for the weekend. One perk is that their wholesaler is in the front of the building, so when I wasn't thrilled with a choice of flower at my showing, we were able to look at and touch a huge variety of orchids until I found what I wanted. When Esther showed up on my wedding day with our bouquets, I was floored. They were more of what I wanted than I had envisioned or described. We got a million compliments on Esther's centerpieces-- weeks later, people are still telling me how much they loved them! Staff was super responsive on our wedding day too. I met with Travis a few months before my wedding to put together a proposal. I didn't want anything extravagant, and had a pretty limited budget. I wanted a very basic blush rose bouquet, and some small mason jar centerpieces with baby's breath and blush roses. I shared my vision and some photos with Travis, and we talked through what I was thinking. From the start, he made it clear he didn't like my vision, and kept pushing me away from the simple look I was going for. He sent me a proposal that was over 3 times my budget, and nothing like the pictures I had shared. The flowers he chose were hot pink (I wanted blush), and the bouquets had a lot more going on than the simple ones we talked about. I emailed him back with specific things I wanted to change, and re-sent the ideas I had, and he never responded. We did not end up working with Travis for our wedding. If you are looking for something basic and simple, I do not recommend choosing Travis. read more

I used Scarlet Petal for my wedding at the Blackstone in September and was amazed with how everything looked. I had met with several other florists before deciding to go with Scarlet Petal, and ended up choosing them over the others because I felt I was getting the most bang for my buck. Esther was flexible and able to work with our budget. Esther was friendly and easy to get in touch with, always promptly responding to emails or phone calls. Her assistant David, who met with me for my trial and also delivered/set up the wedding itself, was super friendly and cheerful and seemed genuinely excited with his work. My main complaint is that we had our trial a few months before the wedding and made some changes to our floral designs. Those changes were supposed to be reflected in our contract (no additional charge as they were mostly just changing color of flowers/ color of satin ribbon binding the bouquets, etc), but I never received an updated contract with those changes in writing. I asked Esther about it, and she said the final contract doesn't get sent out until 3 weeks before the wedding. When I did receive a final contract a few weeks before the wedding, some of the changes we discussed weren't included. Luckily I had taken copious notes at our trial and was able to rehash what I wanted, but it was a hassle to have to go over all our details just a few weeks before the wedding. ......That being said, I would 100% recommend Scarlet Petal. I LOVED our flowers, and all in all they were very accommodating and a pleasure to work with. I have NO complaints about the product delivered on the wedding day. Scarlet Petal is an amazing job for my wedding at the Spertus Institute this past April. From boutonnieres to our 12ft chuppah, they didn't miss a detail. I came to Scarlet Petal with little direction and few ideas. I know my colors and what flowers I didn't like and that was about it. David and Sarah really tried to understand what style of wedding I was going for and what I imagined it would look like. We spent over an hour and half going through images of flowers and talking about how they could incorporate each into different pieces to make them different but cohesive. I left feeling like they really understood me and could take my vision to a higher level. When I went in to see a trial piece a few months later I met with David again. I was overall very impressed with their work but asked to make a few adjustments based on my initial reactions. David was very open-minded and flexible to my suggestions and I left knowing I was in good hands. The day of the wedding, Sarah showed up to my suite with the bouquets, corsages, and boutonnieres. They were stunning and I was so excited to give them out to family and friends. The rest of the wedding was incredible as well. I can't say enough as to how beautiful the ceremony and reception spaces looked. I was blown away. Flowers and decorations are not cheap. Anywhere. But Scarlet Petal really made an effort to work within my budget. We reused almost everything from the ceremony for the reception. They even designed small, simple vases of succulents, used on the dinner tables, that I was able to reuse for our Sunday brunch as well. She helped put together such beautiful florals and was very accessible when I had additional questions/concerns. She worked with us a number of times when I changed my mind or needed to adjust minor details with regards to the wedding. On the day-of, she even helped me get ready to walk down the aisle, straightened up my dress and made sure my veil was laying perfectly across my back. She really worked with our budget, finding the right look with less expensive flowers. The bride's bouquet was unique and beautiful, and it fit the day and the bride. We were happy with the design we created together, from the bouquets, to decorations on the table. Matched our style perfectly! Awesome beyond words! Steve and his crew from Scarlet Petal are FANTASTIC. We used Steve and Scarlet Petal for our September, 2015 wedding at the University of Chicago. The wedding was in Bond Chapel and required a chuppah. The flower and wood chuppah that Steve and his team built was nothing short of spectacular. It even incorporated our lace tablecloth which has great sentimental value to us. The flowers for the bridal party were exactly what we envisioned. The centerpieces for the reception at Ida Noyes Hall were exquisite. At every turn, Steve and Scarlet Petal far exceeded our expectations. My husband and I had a very specific image for our wedding. We both love flowers and wanted to bring the outside into our event spaces as much as possible. We also wanted to have an English garden feel to all the flowers. Steve saw our vision and brought it to life in the most perfect and detailed way. While the flowers were expensive, we don't at all regret spending the money to make the dream a reality. And that reality was completely due to Steve. For the reception, we had long banquet tables. Down the center were mixed stacks of books topped with antique lanterns, candles in holders, and tall centerpieces with flowers drooping down. The tables also had greens down the center giving the entire room a garden feel that was bathed in golden candlelight. It was beautiful. Additionally, that day it was HOT (94+ degrees) and all the flowers held up quite well. This florist in Chicago "specializing" in weddings and events does anything but that - they are overpriced and not knowledgable at all! Used them for an event and was SO disappointed. Brides, Executives, Party Planners - go elsewhere - don't be highly disappointed like I was working with Scarlet Petal. Maybe when they have more experience under their belt, they can be a little better... but having to tell a vendor what they should be doing isn't normal! I only spoke with Esther 3 or 4 times - our initial meeting, the contract signing (totally reasonable pricing), our preview (which was amazing!), and then one last 5 minute convo to firm up some final details. I didn't have to explain things or worry about whether she understood my vision - she just came through like a champ. I'll admit, I can be a bit a little Type A - I can be indecisive and a slight control freak at times, but I didn't worry about the flowers one bit....and THAT is something I wish I could say about every aspect of wedding planning. :) When I walked into our reception at the Adler I practically passed out when I saw how beautiful the decor looked. Truthfully, I may have scared the catering people who were in the room since I gasped (and cursed- see also: classy) because I was so excited. Everyone at the reception was talking about how gorgeous the flowers were and my girlfriend's bouquet is still fabulous even though it's been several days since the wedding. I plan on yelping about all of our vendors when I get around to it since I think it is very helpful for prospective brides, but I definitely had to take special time to write this one before leaving for my honeymoon because I am that happy about my experience. After meeting with several florists, we hired Scarlet Petal for our wedding. Esther impressed us with her professionalism, proposal that captured the look and feel of what we discussed, and ability to give us the look we wanted within our budget. She was flexible and happy to make some minor adjustments to the centerpiece that mom and I viewed at the floral consultation and even added some special memory charms that I wanted to include on my bouquet. All of the bouquets and personal flowers and centerpieces were elegant and modern - they fit perfectly with the overall style of my dress, bridal party, and reception space. Handled my daughter's wedding flowers. When I first walked in to order they sat with me and helped me decide which flowers worked in my price range. The flowers came exactly as I had asked for. The flowers were fresh and lasted the entire wedding. I could not have been happier. Flowers were not cheap but we're not over priced for what I received. Flowers all had a finished look. Lee Scott is AMAZING! We used Lee for our wedding flowers. We met for a showing and the arrangements were beautiful, but too similar to my best friend who recent was married. I sent her more pictures of what I was looking for and the day of the wedding she delivered! We couldn't be happier with her arrangements. She will take care of all the little details! Lee at Scarlet Petal was amazing. She was incredibly easy to work with, accommodated our weird schedule (we live out of state), stuck to our budget, and most importantly, provided BEAUTIFUL flowers. The flowers were one of my favorite parts of the day. The reminded me of Bhldn, which is exactly what I wanted. The value was also incredible...I was pretty amazed we got all we did for the price we paid (rare in the wedding world). Lee provides a showing of all your centerpieces a few weeks before the wedding so you can see the real product and request alterations. Again with flexibility, she was able to do this remotely for me, since I live out of state and was unable to come in. I requested a couple minor changes and the final product looked just like what I had envisioned but better. The flowers fit in perfectly with our space, and Lee also provided several extra decorative elements like a bird cage for our cards, which saved me the trouble of having to purchase a card box. However, the most impressive thing Lee did happened on the day of the wedding. I mistakenly ordered only four bridesmaid bouquets when I needed five. When I realized my mistake, I texted Lee to see if she could give my maid of honor a rose or something to carry, and she somehow created a perfectly matching fifth bouquet on the spot! I would absolutely recommend Lee and would use Scarlet Petal again if I ever had the need to. read more

I worked with Esther for the floral at our wedding (Sep'10) and she is absolutely amazing! I had met with a few other florists when we started planning and I was set on one until meeting with Esther. She was able to draw up an incredibly detailed description of what I had (rather inarticulately:) discussed with her in the span of about 20 minutes. After looking at her plan for our wedding and checking out samples of her work, there was no question who was going to do our floral! The day of the wedding, I was beyond thrilled with the results. The pieces were so lush and stunning, while still keeping with the simple, classic look that I was going for. Esther used these gorgeous silver and glass vessels to add color and variety to the arrangements. I remember sitting at the table during dinner and just admiring everything around me. It was exactly what I had wanted- I had described something out of the 1920's and I honestly felt like I was in the middle of the Great Gatsby:) Esther was a pleasure to work with throughout the entire process and was always willing to throw in her opinion on anything from placecards to linens, etc. whenever I asked. We worked with Jenny on our wedding this past August, and she did an amazing job! She did a beautiful job on our flowers, our guests loved them and they exceeded our expectations. What was really important to me however was that she was so sweet and patient throughout the entire process, even though I was very indecisive. She was always helpful and thoughtful with her suggestions and open to comments. They have really great client service, and even after our wedding she emailed us to check in to see if we were happy with everything. She was extremely responsive, which I appreciated because suprisingly alot of wedding vendors become unresponsive after you book them.
