Gift giving is customary in Asian culture, and plants given with thoughtfulness is one of the best to give. I stopped by Walden Floral Design in search of an impromptu gift for my uncle and his family and was warmly greeted by the staff. The potted plants section was well organized with a lovely selection of plants for every price point. I found a beautiful rubber ficus and one of the associates carefully pruned off leaves and wrapped it carefully to travel in the cold. Happened to stop into this floral shop on Ogden Avenue in Downers Grove to purchase a poinsettia. Found a beautiful poinsettia at a great price. Also found a great new product a candle called flower mama which I understand is made specifically to the fragrance designed by the owner Denise. I got two 1 each for my two sister-in-law's immediately. After opening, they let them and we're absolutely at amazed at the wonderful aroma from the flower mama candles. When I want to send flowers to someone, even when I'm out of town, I always look for a local design shop, as I feel like they do a better job than standard online flower delivery. This is long overdue! My wedding was in October of 2018, and we used Walden Floral Design for our flowers. It was such a smooth process from beginning to end. I went in twice - once with my husband, and the other with my mom. She did not charge for any time we consulted with her and was so welcoming and informative both times. I brought in photos for inspiration and pretty much put my trust in Denise for the rest. She gave helpful advice and recommendations (what flowers were in season, the size of the bouquets/center pieces, color scheme, etc.), and made sure everything fell within our budget. Denise has worked with a lot of places in the area and will give you suggestions with what looks good in those venues. It was great being able to use big pieces from our church ceremony at our venue where we had our reception. Despite the crummy weather - the transportation of the flowers, the pick up, the drop off, the arrangement of everything on the day of the wedding were done so well! We had to return 2 pillars that we had rented out, and she gave reasonable time to return them - she even made a call a day after the wedding to congratulate us, to check in with how everything went, and to remind us about returning them. I needed to send flowers to an out of town funeral and I always dread having to find a florist who wont rip you off or won't give you $300 worth of carnations. I chose Walden because they were not an FTD florist. I spoke with Denise and she had great great suggestions. She called the church about delivery times and asked about stands. She was told they didn't have any and could be placed on the floor. She called me back and suggested we change to have it on an easel instead. WOW the flowers were absolutely beautiful. Ordered flowers for my best friend's 30th birthday and had a not so great experience. I spent $60 before delivery fees and asked for a small pink arrangement. It was mostly greens, a couple of flowers and looked like a big hot mess- not the small dainty arrangement I was expecting. I called to complain and they said they could pick up the flowers from my friend and give me a credit? that makes no sense- not going to take away my friend's birthday present. Then I got a call back to further explain that it was actually a $75 bouquet bc they put the roses in after the $60. If they hadn't put the roses in it would have looked like a monkey grass arrangement. I order flowers A LOT for clients, colleagues and friends and receive them quite a bit. I spent less money at Jayson Home & Garden for a friend in the city and her arrangement was gorgeous. I went based on the reviews- I think because I called in from out of state they wouldn't think I would see the arrangement and totally low-balled me. They could have offered me $30 back or something. Don't get me wrong, they are friendly, and I feel bad writing this review, but friendly doesn't compensate for not handling a situation correctly. I've complained with other florists and have had a way better outcome- new flowers delivered, credit to account- so disappointed. I LOVED my wedding flowers and centerpieces!! I was engaged for 2.5 years and picked out my flower a year prior to my wedding date. Denise, the owner, was very tentative at our appointment. Seeing that I knew nothing about botany and flowers in general, she had several books of floral designs, which were her creations, for me to look through. I picked out certain flowers that I liked and then Denise worked her magic, added a few accent flowers, and on the big day the flowers were beautiful!! I was extremely surprise how gorgeous the bouquets and centerpieces came out. When you have your floral meeting with Denise, you should just trust her, because she understands flowers and understands them well. I trusted her judgment completely and just let the professional do her work. She's been in the business for over twenty years, I will recommend her to anyone, and I have! She answered all of my calls and emails when the two week mark approached. She was professional and VERY reassuring. She treated my wedding as if I was her own. She also stayed for my ceremony, which I thought was very special. Everything came together at the end and she was prompt and on time. I was no stressed about whether the centerpieces and flowers were going to be on time. The boutonnieres were all labeled and gently wrapped -- you can tell everything was handled with care. Ever since my wedding, I continue to use Walden for flower arrangements sent as gifts. Denise, Jan and the rest of the staff continue to do a great job! I recently ordered an arrangement for a wake, and unfortunately due to the location the order was wired out to another florist (their review not so good). The basket was mediocre to say the least. Denise and Jan went above and beyond to help rectify the situation, however the other florist could care less. Denise is probably a floral psychic. I went in once, she essentially read my mind, and seven months later I had the most amazing flowers at my wedding, and completely within my budget. Everything was delivered on time, everything looked perfect. About an hour before my wedding, when I was getting crazy phone calls every five minutes about how so-and-so forgot the bubbles and Aunt Sue is late, I got a call from Denise. She said, "your flowers have been delivered, they look perfect, and I hope you have a wonderful day!" and it made me feel GREAT. Great service, great design, would recommend to anyone. I tend to try to avoid "The Knot" picks and are weary of the price sticker that comes with that, but Denise truly earned hers. We booked Walden floral for our wedding last weekend. They did an absolutely INCREDIBLE job. The attention to detail was apparent in every single bouquet, table centerpiece, corsage, and boutonnière that was displayed at our wedding. We used red roses and every one was open and blooming beautifully. Denise delivered them to our hotel and even gave us care instructions for the flowers, telling us how to make sure not to crush them and how to hold them and everything. When we got to the venue she had transformed all the tables with her gorgeous displays even using green paper on the inside of the vases to match my wedding colors. Walden Floral in Downers Grove is who I would not recommend to even my worst enemy. I reached out to them back in June and made the first appointment. In that first email, she seemed really nice, even mentioned how they did a blackhawks wedding and could show me pictures, etc. Also, during that first contact I told her when our wedding was and how I would like to get info for our wedding flowers as well as it would be nice to do it all at once. In July, we show up for our appointment, no one was there. We waited around an extra 15-20 minutes just incase..nothing. We get an email back the next day apologizing and said we could reschedule. I told her next Tuesdays we were available and they chose the later one in August. We go, and the girl just did not seemed thrilled that we were there. She told us to look through binders and she was in the back and then came up. We already decided what centerpieces we wanted based on pics on their facebook. As for wedding flowers, I know nothing and was hoping for guidance. When I said I didnt know what a certain flower was, she googled it. I didnt know what looked good together etc. She was asking other questions about bridesmaid bouquets and I was hoping to get advice as to what is a good idea, etc and some guidance. Nothing. We reminded her about the blackhawks theme, nothing. When she came back with our quote for the flowers, we were blindsided. $1097 (without tax). She said that its average for the area and we could come back and she would suggest changes. We left in shock. So I reached out to that FB wedding group, and one girl quoted me half, and so did other people saying they paid that price but got a lot more. Mind you, our colors are red and white (natural flower colors), nothing fancy...gerber daisies, a few roses, simple flowers, etc... So I emailed Denise the owner the next day following our appointment and told her how upset I was over the appointment, hoping for more guidance and what the girl had said, etc. No response from the owner. A week goes by, no response.I call the store and apparently she's in a meeting. 2 hours later, I get an email from her saying our centerpieces wont be a problem, and then that our wedding date is booked so they cant do the other flowers. No explanation about the appointment, estimate etc. That didnt make any sense. After we sent our deposit in to Celidan, I wrote her back Thursday and told her not to even bother with out centerpieces as I dont want one dime we are paying the Hilton to go to them. read more

Last week, I went to go order flowers at the same florist I see every time I drive by traveling east or west on Ogden Ave in Downers Grove. They are the ones with the beautiful florals and things in the windows and I notice their impressive designs every time they change the windows. So I decided to give them a try. I'm from NC and had my wedding in Chicago. Walden was recommended to us by our hotel and we decided to look into it. I absolutely adored everything they did. Since I was out of state I skyped Denise to talk about what I did and didn't want. I wasn't exactly sure myself but by asking a few questions she was able to narrow down exactly what I wanted and show me how talented she is! I told her to take artistic license with the flowers and to do what an artist does best. I'm really glad I did because not only did she do things I wouldn't have thought of but she made the most beautiful bouquets! Everyone complimented them and all the flowers were amazing. My matron of honor, who was married a month before me, kept telling me she had bouquet envy and how amazing the flowers were. We used Walden for our wedding in April 2015. At my first meeting with Denise (the owner) I knew nothing other than I wanted white flowers and didn't want to spend a fortune on them. Denise was incredibly patient with me as she showed me enough flowers to give me options but didn't overwhelm me. She has INCREDIBLE taste and I appreciated how honest she was about things like how well certain flowers would hold up and what good choices would be for that specific time of year. She is so very knowledgeable about all things floral and put together the most beautiful bouquets, corsages, boutonnieres, and centerpieces. She was also VERY familiar with our church (St. Joe's in Downers Grove) and reception site (Oak Brook Bath & Tennis Club) which helped with planning. She was able to order candles in bulk for me very last minute and put together sample centerpieces about a week before the wedding to make sure they were exactly what I wanted. By the way, they looked BEAUTIFUL, and yet she emailed me a couple days later to ask if it was ok to throw in a few extra flowers to each arrangement at no charge just to make them a little bit bigger. They were GORGEOUS.
