After reading good and bad reviews of this place, I wasn't sure what to expect, but after staying for a week for a music workshop, I heartily recommend the Scarritt Bennett Center. It's a simple place with excellent food on a calm, beautiful campus. The digs are former college dorms, so they are spartan but comfortable. Many, if not all, of the rooms share a small bathroom (Jack and Jill style). I shared a twin room, which had one desk and a lamp whose dusty lampshade kept falling off. :) But apart from that, I had no issues. The bathrooms do feature soap and shampoo, but they are fairly basic. Now, let me tell you about the food. The chefs at the SB Center should be praised unto the high heavens -- they cook delicious food, from teriyaki chicken to baked salmon. But their crowning achievement is their desserts. Oh, my lord. Artfully done strawberry shortcake, coconut cake, all manner of cookies -- so good I wouldn't be surprised if they had been trained at the CIA. The folks at the front desk are very nice and the conference rooms are spacious, albeit chilly (bring a sweater). Just a short walk away is a CVS, Starbucks, and other eateries such as Panera, a hot-chicken place, and tacos. I would be happy to stay at Scarritt Bennett again. read more

I stayed here recently on a sight-seeing trip to Nashville. It's about 1.2 miles from downtown and only about $150 per night! All the other hotels in the area were over $300 per night. The campus is beautiful, there lots of restaurants in walking distance. The rooms are small - they were built as dormitories. But clean and had everything we needed. Downsides - you have to reserve over the phone. I had to call back more than once because of slight errors in my booking. And the heater was difficult to use - I followed the instructions, but started out the night freezing and then woke up way too hot in the middle of the night. I would still definitely recommend staying here! read more

We booked an intimate wedding package at Scarritt Bennett Center and we were so happy with decision. We worked with Meg as our day of coordinator, and her team and vendors were so amazing to work with. They were highly responsive and helped us feel stress-free about all the details. The grounds and architecture are incredibly beautiful and made for spectacular photos and memories. Originally, we'd booked the Labyrinth Garden for our ceremony, but had a last minute change due to weather and decided to move to the Wightman Chapel since it was not previously booked. Meg's foresight was so greatly appreciated and helped ease my worry about the comfort of our guests. We loved that the intimate wedding package included so much with the booking, such as florals, the officiant, seating, and live streaming of our wedding for friends and family back home. We booked this double suite through Urban Nashville which made this very affordable. Even with small rooms and twin beds, the accommodations were very nice and even better than we expected. It was quiet, clean, in a great location with convenient easy parking -had everything we needed (everything a nice hotel would have) including a coffee set-up with good artisan ground coffee. My only complaint is that the inside door deadbolt was removed making it impossible to double secure the room at night. read more

The Scarritt-Bennett Center is a treasure for those who want simplicity, nature, sacred surroundings and affordability. If you are looking for upscale accommodations, this is NOT the place for you. I stayed 5 nights at the location. During my stay i not only enjoyed walking around the beautiful grounds and learning about the rich history; but I also savored walking through the neighborhood and to downtown Nashville to some attractions and places to dine for my vegan appetite. (Yes, I could have taken an Uber to get to many places within 10-15 minutes, but I enjoy my walks). Scarritt-Bennett has a dining hall on campus with an excellent chef that prepared some vegan dishes that more than wowed. I had a couple meals on campus during my stay. And there were some events on the campus that I missed because I already had other plans. When looking for a place to stay in Nashville, most of the Airbnb's and hotels were pricey. My husband found this one and the architecture was beautiful. It was $90 or so for one night which wasn't bad. I think this place was previously a church/college. We stayed in a dorm type room with an adjoining bathroom to another room. The air conditioning was in the bathroom so it controlled both dorm rooms. It never got that cool in the room, and since we stayed in July it got sort of uncomfortable. The actual room and bathroom were pretty outdated. All the lamps were unplugged which was weird. The shower was okay. We had 2 twin beds in our room which was fine. Overall, it's a cheap place to stay, but definitely not the nicest or fanciest. read more

Nitty Gritty: Pros: $50 a night - YES! Beautiful Super Cheap place to stay in Nashville, the campus itself is old, but \well taken care of (architecture is amazing), rooms are small, but clean and cozy(They were dorms so its understandable), and they have just the basics, so if that's OK for you, this is THE way to save money on a room and spend your money on the more fun stuff. Close to some decent restaurants, great neighborhood...and OMG FIREFLIES at night! Its like magic if you take a walk at night. Cons: (Not really cons for me but others, maybe) Shared bathroom with room next door. (I had no neighbor so - coolio!) No temperature control, twin bed The Details. On a scale of 1-5 (meh to heck yes!) Room: 3.5 Clean Clean Clean! Only issue I had the first night is that it was too hot. They give you towels, and there is room service, but its every 3 days. So take out your trash. Internet: 5 Netflix at night was just like I was at home. DID I MENTION ITS FREE!? Closet: 3.5 Lots of space and hangers, but its open. There is also a dresser/desk combo with lots of room for clothes, and a place for your laptop if you need to do work. Bathroom: 4 OK I'm picky about bathrooms, and this was immaculate. Looks like a regular hotel bathroom too (Think a nice Holiday Inn) 1 point off because technically you have to share it. Cleanliness: 5 Nuff said. The Scarritt-Bennett Center is beautiful. I am not quite sure what it is really, but I do know it was beautiful. My understanding is it is an old private college that was renovated and is now used for weddings, conferences, a restaurant, and as a guest home. My visit was for a quick overnight stay while I was in the area. At $45 a night, how could it go wrong? It was beautiful to walk around in the morning on a brisk cold day. And the gothic style and rustic brick decor is simply breathtaking. What is not, and what makes this lose a star - are the rooms. Yes, very spartan. Only barsoap is really provided and the shared rooms is awkward when I didn't think it would be. I found myself hurrying up and having to constantly keep locking all the doors. I didn't know I would need an iron, conditioner, or a hairdryer, until it wasn't provided for me. Perhaps they could splurge on a few upgrades for $10 more a night? Also, I truly, truly did not appreciate being awoken early in the AM by the cleaning staff vacuuming and speaking extremely loudly on walky talkies so loud it penetrated the walls and I could hear both conversations very clearly, wondering why didn't they just talk to each other as they couldn't be so far away from each other. And I'm usually an easy to please kinda person. Parking was a hassle for me as I got lost, but that's my own driving disabilities fault. But thankfully, the on site security guard helped me arrive safely after hours and gave me extremely helpful and accurate driving directions, Parking is in Guest Lot A in the back. The staff was very friendly and nice. Not sure I'd stay again, but I'd definitely take a visit to walk around again. Wish the labyrinth was kept up. Worth the visit, just not overnight. read more

Was going to be in Nashville, and wanted to stay near the action, but didn't want to pay $100+/night....found Scarritt-Bennett on Yelp. The rooms ARE spartan -- mine was a simple bed, chair, dresser, and closet 'area', with a small bathroom between my room and another small room on the other side, which we shared. No TV in the room. But..... I wasn't planning to hang out in my room; I just needed a place to sleep. And for less than $50, I got that....and saved some cash for tooling around town. The room I stayed in may have been spare, but the campus is gorgeous. I had a little room in a heroic space, which suited me just fine. What a random gem of an affordable place to stay near the center of Nashville. After deciding to take a short weekend trip to Nashville via the Megabus, my boyfriend and I found a room here after reading the recs. Thanks to those who stayed before and reviewed! When we reserved the $50 a night room over the phone, the guy likened the gothic stone architecture to that of the buildings on Hogwarts campus in Harry Potter's world. He was right on. The exterior still looks like the former bible college that it was before it was transformed into a non-profit conference center and events space plus lodging (in the former dorm rooms). Beautiful landscaping too! The rooms are barren and it's obvious that no attention has been given to the carpets or the ceilings in these old dorms, that look and feel very much like them. We shared our bathroom with a dude next door (but you can lock the door to adjacent room while you're in there, so you've got privacy as long as you remember to do that.) You'll be needing the free WiFi the room offers you especially if you have AT&T on your smartphone and want some internet access to Yelp. AT&T seems to have horrendous signal in Nashville for some reason (confirmed by a few locals we ran into), despite the huge corporate office downtown. read more

Room was quite worn down and the shared shower was not cleaned out when I arrived (nor during the 7 days I stayed). They were kind enough to include a mini fridge, but it was full of fungus. Water leaked from the bathtub into the room even though no water was leaking off to the side. Water tastes horrible - it could very well be that Scarritt-Bennett's utilities are improperly maintained. Small security issue: building key opened the room in which I stayed. Most toiletries not provided (they will give you some towels and a bar of soap), somewhat misleading price (advertised as $50 + tax a night, comes out to over $60 night). Friendly staff - this is the only part that contributed to the place not being 1 star. A couple of my friends stayed at the Holiday Inn for just $10 more each and enjoyed a very nice room which is more than twice as large as mine and a nice breakfast every morning - I suggest this if you have another person to split the room with. read more

This review is not on Scarritt-Bennett Center as whole. I used the Wightman Chapel for my wedding and cannot testify any thoughts on the rooms. The only reason this place gets four stars is because the chapel is breathtaking. When I walked into this church, I knew it was where I would get married. The problem with this place is that everyone else thinks the same thing. It books up a year in advance (and I had a January wedding) so they can charge you a ridiculous price and get you set into a very strict contract. You literally have four hours the day of-this includes set up, ceremony, picture time, and clean up. Four hours is NOT enough time. If you choose good vendors however, they will work with the time schedule and it shouldn't be a problem. I did feel slightly rushed though, and I'm sure my vendors were stressing out trying to get things accomplished in this small time frame. With all that said, its still worth it. I'm glad my wedding ceremony was held here and wouldn't change a thing about it. I'll deal with the strict contract any day for a beautiful setting and wonderful pictures I'll have forever. read more

The Scarritt Bennett center is one of the most beautiful buildings that I have had the pleasure of experiencing. The building is a Gothic-style cathedral looking building that used to be a college campus. It is part conference center, part hotel, and a great venue for weddings, which is what I went there for. It was really a fantastic wedding that took place in the Wightman Chapel. The staff was very professional and the entire building is equipped with WiFi and they had a very high quality sound system in the chapel, which really gave the ceremony a great atmosphere with the music and everything (I think I may have even shed a tear). The grounds contain two different chapels which are suitable for weddings and I believe that they have over ten different rooms, varying in size, that are suitable for meetings. Equipped with commercial dining facilities, Scarritt Bennett provided all of the catering for the wedding and the food was outstanding, as was the service. read more

If your looking for a beautiful church to get married in, this is a place you won't forget. Whether your looking to have a large wedding or a small wedding, you won't have to look any farther. This place was not what was advertised. It's tiny, dark and damp. The people were unfriendly. I got in late and had to go on my phone to find the number to find my room, where I aimlessly went around in the dark. I wanted to check out, but they would make me pay for the full week. They would not let me cancel my account. Do not check in here unless you want to be scared, and forced to pay to pay for your entire time if you want to leave. The boyfriend and I attended an outdoor wedding here, and it was beautiful. You could set out some chairs anywhere and it would look like the perfect wedding spot. Brunch afterwards was in one of the halls, which was again gorgeous. Plus, the food was SO good! I would never have guessed this was catered food. The only downside was that it's a non-alcoholic venue, so toasts were made with faux champagne (which is really not very good). I can't even begin to tell you how amazing this place is. The staff are so friendly (Kate, the security guard, in particular) and the location is superb. Near food, shopping, busses, downtown broadway, etc. the buildings are beautiful, there's a huge chapel as well. This used to be a college campus, so the rooms are actually dorm rooms. This is not a place for luxury. Humble up a bit and enjoy the simplicity of a bed, a desk, and a bathroom. Plus the price is right. You'll get a feeling of wholesomeness, especially if you're here alone. You'll get that "eat, pray, love" feeling which we all need sometimes. I will return in the future. I stayed here for about 4 days for a work retreat. As we work for a nonprofit, the place was perfect for what we needed. The grounds itself is beautiful and feels right out of the movies--Harry Potter and Hogwarts immediately came to mind! The dining room felt like the Great Hall that was just missing Dumbledore and the floating candles. The rooms itself were nothing great...they were like stepping back in time to an old dorm room but they were cozy and fine if you're not spending much time in them. They were very clean. No tv, twin bed, old phone, chair dresser, etc and a shared bathroom. The shared bathroom was ok as my coworker was next door but I imagine it would've been awkward if a stranger was next door. My room was incredibly cold and I did have to request extra blankets but it seems that I was the only one with that problem, so the next time I would've just asked to switch rooms. We could only adjust the thermostat for the 2 rooms by selecting "hi" and "low" which didn't help much. The food and staff were awesome...when we arrived the chef was very bubbly and friendly and asked us what we wanted for the next few days. We gave her a few requests and she made everything we asked for, including gluten-free when we mentioned that. The conference room we were in was great and had all that we needed. Overall the price is great for this place and the location was nice as we could easily walk around to many places in the downtown area so definitely consider this place if you want a place to crash for just a few nights! read more

DO NOT GET MARRIED HERE! While it is a beautiful place to get married it is NOT worth the hassle. Everything costs money. They extremely money hungry. You can't bring in any food or beverages to the dressing areas unless you buy it from them. If you are even a minute over the 4 hour time window it cost you money (a minute). You have to have a diagram of what you want in the church 4 months i think (can't remember the exact date) before the wedding and if you change it or anything it cost money. No open flame candles even though just about every picture i've ever seen of this place shows open flame candles. Brides be careful the fine print is NOT worth it. We made a huge mistake getting married here and have told friends that want to get married here not to. There are other places just as beautiful for way less money and hassle I promise you. Also, the staff doesn't know the rules one person says one thing and someone else says that's not true. The beauty of Wightman Chapel is just not worth the hoops you have to go through and not worth the money. read more

This is where my husband and I had our wedding and it was absolutely breathtaking. We wanted something with the feel of an "old charm" venue since we love places with a history behind it. It definitely makes for great photos and the really nice thing about this venue is you don't have to spend just a ton on flowers and decor because the chapel speaks for itself. We used a ton of candles around the chapel since it was an evening wedding and it was so elegant. The only downside with Scarritt Bennett is you have an extremely short time frame and it is really spendy. You get a 4 hour window in there from set up to tare down. We had to rush a little on photos and we had a fairly small wedding. They are not flexible on anything, but when you have to book basically a year out to get into this venue they really don't have to be flexible. It wasn't anything to make or break our day, it just would have been nice to not have to feel so rushed. But all in all we were very satisfied with everything there and everyone said how beautiful the wedding was! read more

I just returned from a work conference that was at the Scarritt Bennett Center and my colleagues and I stayed over one night in dingy converted dorm rooms. First of all, the customer service was awful, we hardly got the time of day from the front desk staff or the conference manager. The catering staff were the only hospitable people we encountered. It was far from enjoyable! The building architecture and campus was beautiful. However, the old dormitories where we slept were very depressing and very institution-like. Plus, there were stains all over the thin worn towels that we were given. So much for Southern hospitality! I would not reccommend this center to anyone even if you were trying to save money! read more
