Came upon it by surprise and the outside drew us in! It's a very cute spot and they give you a free hand-wash (it's mora than just that) to try their products - there are like 5 steps to it and every single product we tried was marvelous! I was walking by and I saw the storefront and it was so cute I just had to stop in. As soon as I did, I was greeted warmly and offered a free tryout of the hand soap. I expected it to be like in Bath and body Works, where they just give you a pump of the soap, let you wash your hands in a little sink, and that's it. But it was a whole extensive process, demo, and explanation of the products! She took me to the bathtub at the end of the store that had multiple faucets, dispensed my scent selection of the hand soap, and started explaining the scent and benefits of the product as I was using it. She continued to do this for every step of the process, which included the sugar scrub, a light exfoliating scrub, a moisturizer, a balm, and a special candle that was safe to use on skin! I was amazed and my hands were baby soft and smelling great by the end. It's also a great place to buy gifts or souvenirs, which I did, and they were kind enough to give us a couple mini free samples of their bars of soap, which I really appreciated! I have been a longtime fan of Soapology's hand-poured candles ($26). They double as massage candles and are made of soy wax, providing a cleaner, slower burn. Only certain people seem "entitled" to service here. Walked in with my friend because it smelled so good inside as we passed the entrance. The sales girl told us about the store and seemed very friendly...until the "other" couple walked in. She gave them a similar speech but proceeded to walk them to the sink in the back where she gave them samples to try, rubbing their hands with the products and really getting into it. I found what I wanted and waited for her for a bit. She saw me at the register and said she would be there when she was done. Waited another minute or two. When it was obvious that she wasn't interested in making the sale, we left. So if people like me aren't welcome, that's fine. I saved a ton of money, as I wanted to buy a few gift sets as well. I've never encountered being ignored at Sabon so that's where I'll shop in the future. My money is still green there. I'll bet those people you spent so much time with didn't buy a damned thing. I walked in last night around 8 with my son. We were shopping for a Mother's Day gift. We were entranced by the delightful scents in the air as we entered, radically different from the odors outside... Alice, the salesperson, walked us through the products and introduced us to some specials. We perused and smelled all the delectable smells then splurged on a bunch of different things! They have a ton of products like glycerin soaps, candles that melt down into massage oil, oil perfumes, bath salts, scrubs, lotions, bubble bath, loofah, and more. I wish they offered the bubble bath in more scents. I only saw about 3 or 4. Still, the scents they offered were really nice. Alice created little packages for us and stuffed the bags with lots of paper so there was 'no peeking' which I thought was cute. She was really engaging and positive which made the experience that much better. ​At one point, there was an intoxicated guy, maybe homeless, who walked in and was shopping for a gift for his girlfriend. She knew he wasn't really there to shop but still treated him with respect and dignity. At the end of it all we left happy. I did notice that I had a thin layer of oil on my face from whatever candles were lit. I was cool with it, I have dry skin. If you're not into that, I'd carry some rice paper wipes in my bag. I was so excited to visit this store on Mother's day with my son and daughter. I love soaps and scrubs...they are just one of life's great pleasures. I was already sold when I walked in the door. That was until the customer service associate started talking to me. Every question I had about a product she laughed at me and made a face like why are you stopping me from giving you my rehearsed lines about this product. I thought it was just me until my daughter said why does this rep keep laughing at everything you say like you have a whole bunch of dumb questions. After having the demo of the scrubs and lotion I really wanted to buy because it felt and smelled good, but the customer service girl was so obnoxious that I just couldn't let her think that she did a good job so I just walked out. Honestly I'm really in love with this soap shop!!! I have never seen something so naturally relaxing and simply beautiful. Upon walking around the city with my boyfriend we happened to stop at this shop and the man working inside was so kind and allowed us to try SO many products!! We started with the body soap, then I did a coarse lavendar body scrub, a walnut scrub and another lavendar scrub that was fine enough for the face. The coffee scrub was also sooo nice on the skin. The smells that I loved were the lavendar, verbena & they even have a body wash that is tobacco scented!?!? #cool Also their candles are super cool. Leena was so sweet and helpful, i look forward to coming back. We wandered upon this shop late one night while roaming the meat packing district. We were drawn in by the sweet aroma and the sale signs. Upon entry we were greeted by Leena and she made some suggestions from the sale rack that were awesome. We ended up getting the body oil and I couldn't be happier. 3 hours later, while writing this post, I still smell the fragrance and my arm is sooooo smooth and supple..... i think I'm going to go back in the morning and get some more before we leave. On top of the massage/body oil recommendation she also gave us some free samples of the walnut polish. I tried the walnut polish and I can understand why it's a best seller. There are MANY scents to choose from, and they can customize salt scrubs, shower gel and bubble baths to whatever combination of scents you like. I was looking for something youthful yet sensual and picked three oils that stood out to me... Rose, sandalwood and vetiver. I walked around the neighborhood a bit to see how it settled on my skin and came back right away to purchase. I fell in love!! This beats any alcohol perfume I've ever bought. They have a wide selection of scents to choose from and you can combine whichever ones you like to create your voodoo. I love the girls that helped me, they were so knowledgeable. The only thing I would say is - it would be a great idea to have a guide that can assist customers with which notes can compliment each other. Soapology also carries bar soaps, soy candles (which double as hand lotion), massage oil, and perfume. But the BEST part about Soapology is the custom scents. Soapology carries shelves of essential oils which can be blended into a custom perfume - Kelly R. and I spend a hour here every year crafting the next year's perfect scent. (This year was a midnight orchid and white ginger amber blend for me.) While some may feel that a bar of soap should always come in a pack of 6 for $5, I'm a strong believer in handmade and paying for the amazing quality. I happened into this cute little shop while wandering around NYC exploring. Kara, offered to demonstrate their products by washing, scrubbing twice then moisturizing my hands in a huge sink in the store! Once we were through my hands felt smooth & fantastic and smelt delicious! I'm always a sucker for luxurious bath & body products. At Soapology you are able to choose your own scents made with all natural essential oils - though there are some pre-made ones available that smell great! After patiently narrowing down some preferences with me - Champagne Sugar was it!! Yum! When I mentioned I was traveling, Kara offered to ship my products for me with a minimum purchase of $100 which was really helpful. I got a body wash and body lotion in my scent, plus their walnut scrub (fabulous) and a room diffuser. I can't wait to get home and dive in! I walked in randomly with one of my girlfriends after dinner at Meme's and a walk through turned into a shopping spree. A very nice rep offered us a hand treatment which showcased all of the store's amazing skin care products. Their scrubs are so inventive with ingredients like walnut, black coconut and coffee. I love their egg shaped bath bombs they all smell great, I couldn't chose between all the original scents, so I bought a sample pack of 3. They've got the lotion science down packed, some natural skin products are either too sticky or oily but their butter creams have just the right texture. And all of the scents are fragrant but subtle. I purchased a sample package for $65 which included 3 scrubs (black coconut, walnut, coffee), a butter cream, a bottle of lotion, a bar of soap, a bottle of body wash and a small wash cloth. You can even make your own perfume, they have an array of oils for endless combinations. Soapology is definitely my new fav place! read more

Wait, how have I not left a review yet? I'd live here if they let me - all things Vetiver from this holy apothecary. Everyone is so friendly and so wildly interesting, they hire smart, eclectic people who really understand how unique and amazing the products here are. What I LOVE: - Linen spray. I'm telling you, Vetiver linen spray will give you a deep and relaxing nights sleep, but lavender is helpful, too, but I prefer that as a satchel in my pillow. - Body Butter. It is so rich and creamy I'm still hydrated even after getting in the pool. I have mint for morning showers to wake me up and Vetiver for before bed. - Eye Cream. Honestly, I use this all over my face sometimes. I don't know how they get this so satin smooth but it feels like pampering your skin every use. - Walnut scrub. There is no better facial exfoliation on the planet. Buy this in bulk. No kidding. That giant $75 jar, I promise, you want that. - Face wash. It's the olive oil in there that makes me radiate but man is this face wash hard to beat. - Dead Sea Clay Mask. No way to over state this - it will give you a new face. It pulls out every impurity and leaves my face tingly clean and exceptionally bright. I love this stuff. - ALL of their candles. The Tea Rose, Tobacco & Caramel, Yuzu and White Tea & Ginger are all on regular rotation in my house. BIG FAN: - Soaking salt. It just does something to my bath water and I'm always fighting sleep shortly after hopping into the tub. - Bath bombs. They don't fizz like others but they make the bath water something mythic. It's a creamy bath filled with essential oils and it's like stepping back in time. - Night cream. Like the eye cream it's ridiculously smooth and I often put this on in place of a regular day time moisturizer. - Shower gel. Nothing particularly special about the gel itself other than the oil/scent you pick, but it stays with you all day. - Massage Oil. I prefer this to the perfume oil which can be incredibly strong, but the massage oil has the added benefit of serving as a moisturizer as well. - As much as I love the coffee scrub and recommend it, I actually love the sugar scrub more. It's a pretty powerful exfoliate and easier on the drain. Seriously, I could go on and on and on. I love this place. If you stop in, tell them the Vetiver girl says hello. I've been passing this store for years; they often have someone standing outside handing out samples of soap, and I always take one. (The scent haunts me for days!) They also offer a free hand treatment, which I've only done once; basically, they scrub your palms with one of their aromatic cleansers, then finish with lotion. It's really neat. Today I got a jar of the Walnut Polisher, because I needed a scrub for my face. It's just great, with ground walnut shells as the active ingredient; a little more than I wanted to spend, but with Soapology I know all their products are vegan-certified, and I can pronounce all their ingredients. We had lunch in the neighborhood and as we were walking past the Soapology to walk off some calories, the fragrance coming from the store instantly caught my attention and I had to stop by. - Their candle is amazing. Apparently, it is made with all natural ingredients and you can even rub the oil (it's not the normal candle wax that you expect!) on your skin and it smells and feels so good! - The scrub scrub scrub. OMG. So, the store representative invited us in for the scrub experience, and we tried out a bunch of their scrubs such as brown sugar, coffee, Creamy Bath Scrub Verbena & Ginger, and the AMAZING walnut scrub. Their walnut scrub is the best scrub I've tried and I had to purchase a large jar. You don't need to use a lot so a small jar will last you a long time and it is finely grated that it feels so heavenly against your skin. - Ask for samples. I got fragrance oil and soap. Super cute little store full of soaps, scrubs, candles, lotions, and bath stuff. We stopped in this weekend since we were in the neighborhood and my sister has one of their products and loves it. The staff was super friendly and they walked us through a whole experience of their products. We all washed our hands in their body wash, then used a scrub, then another finer one, then lotion and then finally dabbed a bit of their candle oil on our skins, which the lady said is massage oil and their candles are low burning so the oil won't burn your skin. My hands have never felt softer. It smells amazing in the store. The hard part was picking a scent to buy since they have so many great ones, and of course which product.
