We had a great time at our private, perfume making class. I brought my two adult children as a gift and we all came away with scents we love. The high quality of their oils is very apparent and I'm really glad they're here in Berkeley. The booking process was seamless and they responded so quickly by email, I'm really pleased we were able to get in before Christmas day. Tarah was so knowledgeable, patient, kind, and helpful during our time there. We enjoyed the friendly, festive, and beautiful environment as well. I have been interested in and have loved natural essential oils for decades but I've mostly only had oils that were from brands stocked in health food stores. I've been blending a few scents at home but was wanting more. Now I'm looking forward to going back for a public class to build upon the foundation that Tarah gave us this week. My friend and I came into Scents By The Bay thinking we'd spend maybe 30 minutes creating our own perfumes. We ended up spending two hours smelling the scents, making our own perfume scents, and also made a custom lotion! There were so many amazing smells and we were having too much fun to leave. The ladies helping us were so helpful and patient while we smelled everything. They should have kicked us out for how long we stayed LOL. They have perfumes that are already made if you don't feel like creating your own but that was the funnest part for us. You can put whatever scent you like into a lotion, bubble bath, beard oil, massage oil, hand sanitizer, and a few other fun things. They have a $4 sample vial of whatever scents you want which is SUPER helpful for someone like me who can be picky about sm There are tons of neat gifts too! Crystals, jewelry, candles, body stuff. Make sure to check the actual product you buy. Bought two oils 1/3 oz each. One cost $25, the other $30. Both sealed, but I liked the smell of the testers. Got home. $25 oil smells like the tester. $30 oil smells like nothing. Boo! I'm ok with that price for a perfume I like, but now I guess I have to drive back to College Ave., find a place to park and see if I can get a refund. read more

I recently attended a perfume-making class and was thoroughly impressed by the owner's expertise and the delightful scent I created. She truly made the experience special. However, as the only Black woman there, I felt uncomfortable due to the manager's repeated questioning about my payment, despite having prepaid. This happened when I first arrived, during the class, and at checkout, making me feel singled out. Because of this, I limited my purchase and left early. I hope to attend again but will address this behavior directly if it recurs, as I don't wish for others to feel the same discomfort. The owner deserves praise, and I hope for a more seamless experience next time.I recommend the manager undergo additional training to ensure all customers feel respected and welcome, as her actions came across as discriminatory during my visit. read more

The new Berkeley shop is so beautiful!!! I have purchased many items from Scents by the Bay over the years... starting with they're amazing massage oil Candles and natural stone jewelry. One of the items I cannot live without is the full spectrum CBD Natural pain relief Roll On. I had pain and inflammation in both knees and it hurt to walk. Trying to avoid knee surgery... I thought I'd give it a try. I cannot tell you the relief I feel. Firstly, the pain is gone within 10-15 minutes. Secondly, after using it every day for about a week I noticed the inflammation in the joints subsided. I can see my kneecaps again. I feel like a new, younger person. Speaking of younger, I also love Scents by the Bay "Bright Eyes" eye cream with CBD and Retinol. It truly takes care of those fine lines around my eyes. My friend bought a 16 oz jasmine body wash and vanilla perfume oil for less than $40, which is a wonderful deal for a hand-curated personal scent. The bottles have the option between plastic and glass, and the glass bottles are refillable in store.
