I hate to have to write this review. I've been here before and had a good experience, but this visit, late on a Monday afternoon, felt uncomfortable. I was the only customer in the store at the time, and I felt like I was being followed and watched while trying to browse. The person working at the time had been at the register, but all of a sudden, she had to hover by the shelves twice near where I was. There were no other customers in the store at the time. I don't know if I was being racially profiled or not, but either way, the energy and vibes from this person made me uncomfortable, and it was impossible to relax and enjoy browsing. Discovered this lovely shop as I was waiting for my to-go order across the street. The signage of the shop caught my attention and decided to look it up on the Yelp app before walking over. There is a hand-sanitizer station available to you when you enter and safety plexiglass by the register when you go up to make a purchase at the counter. Everything is properly labeled into sections and each item has a card describing the product by name and what its properties and benefits are. I appreciated these so much and actually learned quite a lot about superfoods, adaptogens, dried flowers, leaves, and herbs that I didn't know about before. Its okay to take a picture of the cards to remember what each item means or its enhancement properties. There is a small section of tinctures and medicinal items. Soaps, crystals, candles, beauty products, jewelry, Tibetan singing bowls, and more! The store is well kept and the woman who was working was super helpful and a delight to chat with. I ended up leaving with two different types of dried flowers that I can either enjoy as a tea or can be smoked - cannot wait to try them! Will definitely be back! I came across this place while window shopping and thought it was absolutely adorable. The staff was super nice and friendly and they had a lot of cool crystals, trinkets, and other metaphysical goodies. I look forward to going back when in the area because they did have some other items I wanted to look at, but the hubby was waiting, so I chose not to torture him anymore. I really appreciate the layout of the store, it was a bit cramped but not dusty, like my previous fav hangout, Angel Light. They also don't have the old, faded books that they carry. So glad that we stumbled upon this place. They have crystals, trinkets, candles, as well various teas and homeopathic items. I personally suffer from PCOS and western medicine items such as BC and such do not work for me and so I wanted to check the homeopathic and natural way. They had 2 different teas to help with PCOS and as well a ground up root that you can sprinkle in your tea or food. I could probably spend hours in this shop. So many teas, crystals, candles and more. Every corner of the shop has something interesting that I want to buy. I ended up purchasing a really cute hand made mug, some tea and a crystal. My mug is my new favorite and I use it almost everyday. The only reason I am giving this place 4 instead 5 stars is that the customer service was a little stand-offish. I asked a few questions and I didn't feel like the woman working wanted to help me. Singular types or blends with signs listing what each promotes.. They have. "VIP membership" you can sign up for with the cashier. It's free and from what I understand you'll get emails about sales and discounts on certain items. You can also purchase crystals, sage, Kratom, CBD products-- holistic type things. The employee that helped us was enthusiastic about what the store offers and shared knowledge and personal experiences with products. He wasn't pushing anything. I love this store! I was actually here after hours for a special event (which was also amazing and lovely) I appreciate how Chelsea was very knowledgeable of everything in stock. She was able to answer all my questions and give proper recommendations. Upon check out she even clarified with me that the watermelon (? Forgot what it was called) would be on the pricier side and made sure i was okay with the purchase. We decided to total everything before making a decision, and was not offended when I chose not to get it this time. Their set up, atmosphere and layout is absolutely beautiful and homey. I almost didn't want to touch anything to keep the beauty intact. I admire that everything is labeled with the intentions and properties and prices. It's hard to pick only one thing because there are so many lovely things you'll want to take home with you. I left here feeling refreshed, grounded and inspired. It actually makes me sad to have to share this review. I am a longtime customer of both locations. The people currently employed in the Oakland store are rude and snobby. And they sold me a candle that will not stay lit. I tried to light it over and over, so now they say that they will not accept a return because "it is used." Not used. I WANT to use it but that's not possible. I buy candles literally everywhere from Walmart to street fairs and have never encountered this problem. And TT will not stand behind their product with a refund or replacement even for a longtime customer. This does not bode well for the quality of their other merchandise much of which is edible, or should be edible. Now I have to consider all of their products suspect in quality. And the employees treated me as if I was a pariah on top of it all. There are many of these types of stores locally. I will shop elsewhere from now on. read more

Very disappointed in the quality of candles of purchase today and customer service. I paid $26 for a candle that has no scent. The brand of the candle is Among The Flowers . I don't recommend this brand at all. I spoke with manager and she mentioned the return policy is final, however the return policy is not on the receipt or website. The manager said the return policy is by the register. There's a plastic panel and all type of stuff on the counter, who's suppose to see a return policy. Complete rip-off. Small business always want you to have empathy for them, but what about the customer. Customer don't have money to waste. Chelsea, thanks for your response. Why launch a inactive website? Why not just launch a landing page. I'm not upset, I disappointed in the substandard service I received. Regarding your food example, if the food or tea does not taste as advertised I am sending it back and expecting to order something else or a refund. According to the front desk this candle is new and I was the first buyer. I forgot the name of the person that helped me, but he was super helpful. I had a transplant surgery end of February (they removed 3 organs) which has made the recovery process very long.. because it was a massive surgery I've been having to take dilaudid for several months now. I wasn't aware that I couldn't just stop taking my meds after being on them for so long because I'd go into a withdrawal.. I learned the hard way and ended up in a withdrawal. I got all the bad symptoms like insomnia, suicidal ideation, anxiety, massive sweating, so much more.. I did my research on ways to help withdrawals and learned about kratom.. after 4 months of reading up about it I finally decided to go for it and give it a try. Kratom blocks the same receptors in your brain as opioids, it sounded too good to be true, but I gave it a try. I didn't take my meds for a day and a half and took Kratom instead. Kratom helped me from falling into a full blown withdrawal -- I couldn't believe it. If you're curious about it I would recommend giving it a try. I'm so glad I stopped in to get some. read more

Staff are friendly and helpful, usually at least a few people in there so try to go during off times as it's not a huge place. Nice merchandise. Friendly staff. Inflexible return policy. I purchased 3 items on 5/27/21. One item that I loved was a polished stone tea light holder. Brought it home. Not one of my 40+ tea lights fit the drilled hole. I called the store, spoke with my sales clerk. She told me they would be happy to issue a credit. I did not change my mind about the item. No buyer's remorse. I wish my tea lights fit. On Thursday 6/10/21 I returned to the store. Three sales people would not credit my card. The sales clerk who helped me originally was not there. I was told that All sales are final. Wasn't expecting that response. This small chain has another location in The Haight. They're not seeing return business from me. read more

This place is awesome! First off the service was top notch. The owner knew everything and answered every little thing I asked. He has tremendous knowledge and he is running a business that helps people in many ways lol. The place isn't cluttered and everything is labeled for their purposes.There are different kinds of herbs and they have books that describe what they are. My gf and I purchased the damiana which is used for tea but can be smoked. It helps reduce stress, that extra hit from weed...which I don't do, and other stuff like hangovers and for libido increase LOL. I also enjoyed reading the many books about eastern style medicine and the way people in different countries utilize herbs as alternative medications! Came here looking for kratom and they had multiple strains to pick from. I feel like what we paid for is overpriced especially for the amount we got ($35/28g in store, $31.80/28g online, including shipping), but I don't know what kratom goes for. The different strains of kratom are given their own names, no information about their actual origin/strain was present. The girl working was nice and helpful, she showed us a 2 page informational about the different strains that we could pick from. Many of the products in the store came off as pieces of appropriation because things were renamed and there was a lack of information. The crystals are pretty but we will be looking for a place where more information is given and prices are more affordable. read more

This store repackages without verifiable chain of custody to back up their lofty claims of quality. In my case, I was given the wrong product, and was not honored on a return or even store credit. If you want to be cheated, and the treated condescendingly when trying to resolve the issue-then this is your place. Twisted Thistle is one of my favorite places to stop in the Bay Area. This was my first time coming to the new location in Oakland which is a bit smaller than the Berkeley location. However, it is still just as easy to get lost in! I love the variety of products they offer from the herbal tea selection and candles to an assortment of crystals and CBD products. Seems like there is something for everyone. As soon as you walk into the store there is a sanitization station which is nice. The place smells magical in warm aromas and the energy is grounding.
