My wife went to Ace Hardware to pick up an order for salt for our water filtration system and the experience was completely unacceptable. When she asked about the order, an older gentleman working there barked orders at her, telling her to move her car to the back of the store so they could load it -- there was no politeness or professionalism at all. Then, the younger employee who loaded the order just threw the heavy bags into the car with no care, risking damage to the bags and the vehicle. To make things worse, the same older gentleman yelled from inside the store for my wife to come back and sign off on the order. The entire experience was handled in a rude, disrespectful, and unprofessional manner from start to finish. I later called the store and spoke with the manager, Michael, to share how disappointed I was. Unfortunately, this experience was bad enough that we will not be returning or ordering from Ace Hardware again. It's unfortunate, because we expected a much better level of customer service from a company like Ace. read more

This store is close by my home in East Rockaway, so it's convenient. Sadly, that's where it ends. The last 3 times I was there they did not have what I needed. So, I paid to park because that's all there is. Went inside and searched for my items. Could not find them. So I asked for help. That person then led me to exactly where I looked to then tell me. "Oh, sorry we don't have that". In total, I wasted 25 minutes. Keep in mind this last trip was for spackle. Simple wall compound to prep for paint. If you walk around there are way too many empty shelves. Associates are friendly and appear to be embarrassed by saying, we don't have that. Value, in my opinion is 0. I wouldn't say this is the greatest hardware store out there, but I think it's fine, especially in a pinch. Granted, the fact that I can walk there has made this place absolutely clutch dozens of times for me already. Their selection isn't great, but they have most of the stuff you'd expect. We got all of our paint here and everything worked out well. The workers don't seem to be super invested in helping out, but can you blame them? They were responsive when I had questions and seemed to at least know where to point me. They aren't about to drop everything to help, but they will do what they can. read more

This company does not drug test their employees. They are constantly under the influence of either alcohol or marijuana. If you are the Type of person that needs any sort of assistance from the staff to find a correct product go any where else. My father went to get a replacement battery and handed them the old battery and said get me a replacement, and they sold him the wrong type. He has very poor eye sight and needs to rely on help. Dont patronize Ace Hardware in RVC. I bought a bag of salt on Monday due to the blizzard that was forecasted. Since the storm was not what we expected I didn't open the bag and decided I would return it with the receipt . The store manager refused to take the salt back stating it's store policy not to take returns on "seasonal items". Five days after the purchase it's still winter. So going forward I will only shop at Ace Island Park. It's a better store and the manager is not a dick. read more

On Saturday, April 10, 2021, at around 11:00 am, I made a purchase at your store (dry lock paint and some rollers) using a gift card that I requested upon returning a toilet seat. I returned the toilet seat and acquired the gift card when I initially entered the store and was assisted by a very cheerful and helpful young, female sales associate. After obtaining the gift card, which I insisted on, I headed downstairs to the paint section and then back to the register to checkout. During checkout, there was a bit of a technical hiccup with the gift card, which I totally understand and had no issue with. However, the young female associate needed the assistance of an older gentleman to complete the sale. This older gentleman seemed quite perturbed by the technical issue with the gift card and took to chiding the young associate who issued the gift card. While I can understand the frustration with technical issues, I really found it to be unprofessional for him to chide his employee while she was also attempting to check out other customers and while I was still standing there. I also want it understood that I insisted that the young associate issue me the gift card in the first place because I didn't have the debit card that the initial purchase, the toilet seat, was made using. In issuing the gift card, the young girl was merely acceding to my wishes and thus accommodating a customer (rule number 1 as I recall from my days working retail). The gentleman who ultimately had to complete my transaction, because of the technical issue with processing my gift card, needs to understand this. If he is aggravated with anyone, he should've directed that aggravation at me, not his employee. In addition he also initially processed my sale incorrectly and nearly overcharged me by three times the actual sales amount. Fortunately, I caught the error and was charged the proper amount. In any event, I hope this email serves as context and clarification for what occurred and removes any blame that may have been unfairly attached to the young associate who initially assisted me with my return. I'd have reviewed the location much more favorably if I'd only interacted with the young associate and not the older gentleman. read more

I am absolutely irate! My husband and I just moved to Rockville Centre. Today at 7:40 pm I left my house, hopped in my car, and drove over to Ace because we were hoping they'd have a skimmer for our pool. (We are having company tomorrow if weather holds up and due to the high winds today, we needed to grab one. We live just a few minutes from the store. At 7:50pm I pulled on the handle of the store (parking lot side) and the door was locked. (My husband had looked up the time for me before I left the house- it said they close at 8!) Now, I know it's annoying when people come late and stay late when you're tired from a long day, but I needed ONE thing! I was not window shopping, I would have been in and out! At any rate after pulling on the door handle (locked) and knocking, I saw a man. He motioned something, but I couldn't make out what it was. I stood there waiting as he walked over to his computer screen. I thought- well, this place is fancy! They have their doors hooked up to computer for unlocking..he must be buzzing me in... WRONG! As I stood there watching the man futz around with his computer, the store lights went out. So, knowing I was watching and waiting and THINKING the man was going to open the door for me BECAUSE IT WAS NOT YET 8PM, he shut the lights and left me standing there like an a$$hole! Well, sir, thank you very much! My husband and I have been in QUITE A FEW times since we've moved to this neighborhood. Your store is completely overpriced; however, due to the convenience, we were willing to overlook the upwards of 1-2-3-4-5+++ dollars you mark your prices up...now, you can whistle Dixie before we ever purchase another thing from your over-priced store! You, sir, have some fkn set of balls closing the lights on a paying customer with 10 minutes to spare and only 1 item needed! Like I said, thanks though. I went to Ace Hardware to see if they could make a spare transponder key for my Volkswagen Beetle as they have advertised. The manager looked up the part needed but couldn't find it on his computer. I asked him if I found it online and brought it to him could he cut the key and program the chip. He told me no problem he could do it. I did find the exact key online and purchased it and brought it back to him. He then changed his story that he wasn't sure he could do it but said he would try. He asked me if they gave instructions how to program it and I asked isn't that what I'm here for you to do? He totally screwed up just cutting the key part and the key would not work in the lock. I cannot even return the key that I purchased. If you need a transponder key made for your car I recommend going to a reputable place and not Ace Hardware. read more

Visited this location and as we drove up to the store most of the parking spots were blocked with empty crates. They must of had a delivery and put the crates all over the sidewalk and parking spots. I was making a purchase and wanted to return a $5 item I had purchased at another Ace location. I was told I could not return the item. The store manager Stewie was rude and unprofessional. He said no to the cashier with an attitude like we were bothering him. He was not dress like a store manager that is representing a company. The store was not maintained. The owner of this location should visit and see what Stewie is doing to his store. The cashier was rude as well, a product of Stewie. Check your receipts from this store!!! I bought a few items, but when I went out to my car I noticed I was charged for a cabinet knob that I did not purchase. I went right back in to complain. The guy told me that another cashier left the knob on his register and that's why he rung it up on me. And he showed me the knob! If that's true, then why didn't he put it in my bag??? I think they do this little knob scam just to add another $2.50 cents to your bill because they know most people won't check the ticket. read more

Shop at this store regularly as I am constantly doing home improvement projects and I like to try and keep my business local. Arrived tonight in desperate need of one item. Rushed to the store knowing that it was closing at 8PM. Arrived at 7:58 according to my phone and the door was locked. I could see 4 people in plain view clearly ignoring me. I knocked and indicated that I only need I item and was dismissively waved away by an employee so that he could continue his conversation. If one of the four employees had at least had the common courtesy to say "sorry we're closed" or something to that effect this would not have bothered me nearly as much. Please DO NOT patronize this store!!! I needed 2 indoor floodlights so I stopped in; they charged me $11.99 EACH for a bulb that costs $3.59 on Amazon (pack of 6.) I realize that brick and mortar stores have to charge a little more in order to pay rent, staff, insurance, etc. but 233 % more??!! That's just an obscene and unfair premium for getting something you need immediately. Stores like this deserve to go out of business. A fatal combination: lack of knowledge and rudeness. I went into have a key made. I returned home and it did not fit the lock. I returned and they remade the key. A person who seemed to be in charge laughed as I left and said "Good luck". I returned home and found the new key also did not fit. When I returned for a refund, didn't even receive an apology for the time I wasted and the lack of performance by the store rather I was told to get in line and wait my turn for a refund. I finally did what I should have done in the first place: I went to a locksmith and had the key made. It works like a charm. read more

I recently visited this store and I had the worst experience I have ever had in any ace hardware location. I came to the store originally because I wanted to purchase an item on their sale flyer posted the week before Christmas. When I got to the store I asked for the item and was told that the item was no longer in stock, I asked to speak to the manager who's name was Larry. How this man became a manager at a hardware store is beyond me. After striking out with the sale item I asked The manager if he could help me with a light that turns on and off automatically for my closet. This is when he tells me that he is sorry and that he does not carry such an item. Now I am zero for two on my endeavor. The manager seemed as if he had more important things to do than to help me, a paying customer, and proceeded into a back room, closing the door behind him. Another sales associate then approached me asking me if I needed help. This man was able to help me find the closet light that I was previously told they do not carry, as well as direct me towards an equivalent of the original craftsman sale item I had wanted. The sales associate was very helpful, THE MANAGER WAS NOT, I am sorry I did not catch the name of the sales associate. If it weren't for the second man helping me I would rate the store zero stars, but because of him I will give it one. I walked the entirety of the store browsing for gifts for family and friends and i couldn't help but notice that the store is full of empty hooks, there is very little inventory and everything seems to be either "sold out" or "on order". I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS STORE TO ANYONE! In addition to all of this, when I had originally tried to enter the store, the front door was locked and I was told I would have to walk around to the back, which I did. It was a cold night around 5:30 pm, and it was a long walk which I did not see the reason for since the manager standing right there, could have easily opened the door for me.
