This art festival takes place in Schaumburg on the grounds of the Al Larson Prairie Center for the…read moreArts. It's a festival that has vendors ranging from the more arts and crafts end of the spectrum to fine art. There were lots of different categories of art represented, including photography, painting, jewelry, and then of course different forms within each category of art such as oil, paintings, watercolor, etc. There were crafts, including handmade hats, knit and felted items and other textiles and fiber art. There were folks selling soaps, a booth was selling plants and moss art, and a couple booths selling fudge and another selling cookies and baked goods. They had quite a few food trucks as well, at least half a dozen of different types, so a little bit of something for everybody. It was pretty extensive. At first glance when you come through the main entrance, it seems it's just a few booths that they have use their parking lot to host, but it goes all the way towards the back of the building down by the little pond and the grassy area. There were well over 100 artists showcasing their works here. They had a local blacksmith here with an outdoor forge both selling and demoing, and per their booth they also host classes if you are interested in learning how to forge metal here in the suburbs. Inside the art center building, they had cocktails and wine and alcoholic beverages. I believe they also had children's activities, but I'm not sure where those may have been. They had at least two spots with musicians, as we passed by someone playing a steel drum and then in another area saw someone playing the hammered dulcimer as well. Parking--at least this year--was directly across the street at the school district building, though it's possible that's not typical (I thought I saw some reference to construction changing the parking situation). There were Schaumburg police officers directing traffic to allow people to safely cross the road at various intervals. We went early to avoid crowds and to have the easiest time with parking and were successful on both counts, and were here about an hour. I really liked that this art fair is a bit more of a home grown fair and not one of the ones from local production company, since I see some of the same artists at those ones and I like that none of the artists I saw today were familiar.

The quality of the performances was always very high. The stage can be rented out by local theater companies to be used for their production. Outside of the building is a bandshell where concerts are help during the summer. One the day that my husband and I were there, there were people taking wedding pictures and quincenera pictures on the grounds in front of the pond that is there. There are also sculptures and art on the ground to be seen and take pictures of. I highly recommend the Al Larson Prairie Center for the Arts.

We used to live in Schaumburg, so we know the area well, and choose this side of town for many reasons. The outside was well lit with plenty of parking and hotel is conveniently located near 290 and 90. There are lots of food options nearby: ChicagoLand staples: Portillo's and Lou Malnati's), as well as Cane Chicken, Wildfire (my fav!), Seasons 52, Shaw's Crab House, Tokyo Pub, Uncle Julio's, and the list goes on and on! You're also within 5 mins of a Target, in case you need travel staples, as well as the Streets of Woodfield if you want an outdoor mall experience. Our fav breakfast place, Maxfield's is less than 10mins away and across the street from our fav parks. Back to the hotel: Staff were courteous and accommodating, fast and easy check in process. There is seating downstairs if you want a spot to chat or have coffee with friends. There is a restaurant/bar inside the hotel; breakfast available for $. We didn't stay for breakfast, but food we saw folks eating looked ok. I liked that this location also has a little shop in case you want some pop or junk food and don't feel like running out! The room is where I took a star off; things we noticed: bed was too lumpy (we're used to hotel beds being on firmer side) and the carpet had a stain in front of fridge (we guessed it was most likely due to the fridge being over cold--the fridge exploded one of our pops, thankfully just inside the fridge). Neither of these things would prevent us from staying again, just things we noticed.

Well, I went and got the typical scrambled eggs, turkey sausage, and a bandanna. While this location offers the same breakfast items as the Hampton Inn and Embassy Suites, at this Garden Inn location, you have to pay $16.80. They had a man go around filling your coffee mug and getting your food, but again, it's the standard free breakfast items you'd find at other Hilton chains, which explains why we met up and got the items ourselves. Needless to say, the next morning, I went to a local place for breakfast and paid less than $10.00. Next, I checked in late Monday and went to Jewel Osco for work items: a case of water and snacks to keep my team focused and uplifted. Well, after returning, I found out that a water main had broken, flooding some lower-level rooms, and that the fire marshal had shut down the elevators. The manager got two staff members to help me with my grocery bags since I was on the third floor. He told me that he could book me into another hotel. Still, if anyone knows anything about the Chicagoland area, the bedbug capital of the US, it is Chicago, followed by Cleveland and Detroit. So, no, without researching, I'm not moving to another hotel. Besides, has anyone read my Embassy Suites review that mentioned black mold being painted over? By Wednesday, the elevator still wasn't working when I checked out. It was a pain bringing down my hug roller bags, computer bag, and tools, but at least I'm not bringing critters with me. The final issue was that the showerhead in the bathroom was pointed directly at the toilet, so the entire floor got soaked and became a slip hazard. Someone obviously didn't think that through! But wait, one more issue, the reading lamp didn't work; that was close to my bed. On a good note, the staff were friendly, and the hotel was clean, so three out of five stars.

5 stars for Topgolf in Schaumburg!…read more This was my first time here, or at any Topgolf location for that matter. I had a great time here, you don't need to be Tiger Woods to have fun at Topgolf - all skill level players are welcome. You can pick multiple golfing games on screens in your section - you can do ones that only count if you hit the holes, ones that count your distance, ones that incorporate fun app games like Angry Birds and Sonic and more. Our server was very friendly/attentive at our section while golfing, she checked up on us a lot if we needed help or if we wanted to order anything. I didn't bother ordering food or drinks as it's all extremely expensive (eat/drink before you go). If you like mini golf, but regular golf isn't your thing, I think Topgolf is somewhere in the middle where you can have a great time at. Definitely check it out at least once, the earlier you go in the day, the less crowded it will be - especially early mornings.

My wife and I were in town for our annual June trip to Chicago, and have used this hotel multiple times now. We also used points for my brother and his son's shorter stay. It averaged about 5,000 points (worth about $50) per night, which is about as good as you can get these days. Pluses: -- It's a Hyatt House, which means meant for longer stays. All rooms has a kitchenette, with electric cook tops (along with full set of pots and pans, plates, and utensils), apartment size refrigerator, dishwasher, microwave, sink. This allowed us to eat-in one night, and could clean up after ourselves. There is also a living area with decent TV, with a sofa for extra space. The AC/heating worked well from a wall mounted thermostat. -- they introduced an omelet station for breakfast (weekdays only), which I took advantage of twice during our stay. A lot of effort was made in preparing the various ingredients (onions, green peppers, mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, bacon crumbles, cheese, sausage). It was the best tasting omelet I've ever had a complementary hotel breakfast buffet. They also have the newer auto pancake machines (which we first saw at a Holiday Inn, earlier this month). And for whatever reason, the bagels provided tasted really good. -- We worked with Antonio at the front desk, and he really is great. He actually remembered us from one year ago, and tried his best to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Minuses: -- definitely showing it's age, especially in its rooms. Built in 1999, it underwent a renovation in 2015 (making the common spaces really nice), but the rooms not so much. Both rooms had carpet and it had major stains, to the point of the walking areas not feeling 'clean' and having to use sandals to walk around in our room. -- double beds in rooms are rare here. -- as before, the shower pressure is not good. -- the toilet had a leaky valve, resulting in it refilling it's tank abruptly...not a big deal except it would wake us up since it made the noise as if the toilet was being flushed.

While the day ended on a positive note thanks to some incredible staff members, the management and initial service were deeply disappointing. Despite having a reservation confirmed three weeks in advance and receiving a confirmation call that same morning, our party was not seated until 4:30 PM for a 4:00 PM booking. My husband and I checked in with the host starting at 3:55 PM, only to receive vague, dismissive responses like 'we're working on it.' Worse, the host displayed an unprofessional attitude, stating 'I have already told you in a few minutes' and was seen talking to other hosts about how upset our group was. When I finally spoke with a manager, Don M., his response was unsettling. Rather than apologizing for the 30-minute delay, he simply told me 'I am not kicking you out,' which felt incredibly unprofessional and dismissive for a milestone celebration. After we were seated, Don M. never returned to check on us or acknowledge the delay. Fortunately, Assistant Manager Luis Martinez and our servers, Marco and Georgina, completely saved the day. Luis came to our table to check on us personally, and Marco and Georgina were excellent, accommodating our large group's orders perfectly. If it weren't for their professional care of Luis, Marco and Georgina, I would not return to this location."

While my past visit may have varied, this experience was absolutely fantastic, largely thanks to our incredible server. To start the night, I ordered the Puttin' on the Spritz, which was absolutely delicious. As someone who is celiac/ gluten-free, navigating group dinners can be stressful, but our server made it seamless. We decided to dine family-style. While there weren't any regular appetizers I could have, the restaurant offers a dedicated GF menu, and our server went above and beyond to accommodate me for the rest of the meal: Salads: Family-style comes with two salads, and the server safely modified both to be gluten-free. Entrees: The family-style option includes four entrees. I ordered the Rigatoni D with GF pasta (the menu explicitly notes they can substitute GF pasta). Our server also had the medallion plate specially made gluten-free. The Delivery: When the food arrived, they brought my GF pasta out separately to avoid cross-contamination and even surprised me with my own dedicated plate of GF Chicken Francese! To top it all off, their crème brûlée is naturally gluten-free, and they brought one out just for me to enjoy for dessert. Our server was exceptionally knowledgeable about gluten allergies, and I deeply appreciated how thoroughly cared for I felt throughout the night. The food was delicious across the board. We will definitely be back!
