While I dislike the aspect of the trophy hunting and mounts, kids are mesmerized comparing their tiny size to the large scale of these beautiful beasts and seeing them in their replicated habitats. Owatanna's location is one of the more grander Cabela's that I've been to in the Midwest. It was a pretty decent sized building with a decent amount of item variety and a huge taxidermy display right in the middle of it all. I really enjoyed the taxidermy and mount displays at this location. There was a huge diversity of animals from around the world and the quality of the displays was on the same level of a natural history museum. Just walking around and looking at everything was a fun time. There is even a walkthrough aquarium that shows off local sports dish species. Staff were friendly and helpful and prices for most items were very reasonable, especially sale items. The only thing missing was one of those penny arcade gun ranges where you shoot things and they move, oh well!

I browsed the men's section first since the shoes are pretty much the same, I couldn't find them at first so I went across the store over to the women's and couldn't find converse in women's either. I did notice the women's shoes wasn't as busy as the men's. I browsed around a bit (no one greeted me or anything in men's or women's). I did finally find them under a table display and they only had platforms for women's so I went back over to men's to take another look. I did find them and waited for a salesman to assist me. A man walked up (after me) and the shoe he wanted was next to stock room so he was helped right away. I waited and asked for help.. I was told by a rep that he had to go check on some other customers, I kept waiting and being ignored to the point I witnessed reps asking people still looking around if they needed help and finally someone came up to help me, I asked for a 7 (as I'm a 8 1/2, 9 in women's), he came back and told me the smallest size they have is an 8 which is too big. He asked who I was shopping for, I said myself and he asked me what size I wear and I said about a 9 in women's and he said "well this is men's" as if I was blind. I saw some cute Bondi 9's. I researched Hoka website and they are a neutral shoe, but will work for overpronation, which my friend says I have. They were comfortable walking in the shoe dept. I also needed a new cover for my thrift store Stanley. I did score 20% off. What bothers me is they say they have a military discount but supposedly this store doesn't do that. Scheels offers 5% off. I'm glad I had a 20% discount for these spendy $174 shoes. Hope they are comfortable for my new side fun job this summer. I will be walking a lot and enjoying concerts.

I did a search and found a stadium blanket that was perfect for my needs. You can get it for curbside pickup. However, Dick's Sporting Goods online site only caters to folks with American credit cards with a US address. Instead, I looked at the in-store stock and found a bunch of blankets at this Dick's store in Burnsville. The following day, I decided to visit it. This store is a part of Burnsville Center, but you have access to this store without going into the mall. Perfect! I had no problem finding a parking spot. There were so many that I backed into one that was fairly close to the main entrance and walked in. Sure enough, I wasn't even into the store for half a minute and the blankets were staring at me by the checkout area. I wanted the green buffalo check blanket and got it. It came with a built-in handle, which I loved using while walking around. I was impressed with the Minnesota Wild apparel. It was nice to see other designs than those at the Hockey Lodge at Xcel Energy Center. The shoe section was impressive. There were plenty of running and walking shoes to choose from. It also had Doc Martens that weren't as heavy in weight as they used to be. I was ready to pay for my blanket and lined up. I got a nice young man, but he wasn't highly experienced. He couldn't find the barcode on my blanket. After a minute, he found the tag. Other than that detail, he was polite and friendly. I paid with a credit card, thanked him, and left with my blanket. I used it in frigid conditions (temperature was -23°C with a windchill of -32°C). I was bundled well. Having this wind-resistant blanket over me helped. I am still using it, but indoors. I like having it on me when I'm watching TV, so it serves more than one purpose. I love my purchase. (10)

Not usually the type to leave a review but I had too pleasant of an experience to not leave one…read more Walked in on a Monday afternoon knowing nothing about archery but wanting to get into it. Jon immediately met me in the store and was ecstatic to help me out. Jon spent almost 3 hours shooting bows and sharing his immense knowledge with me. After we had picked the bow, he walked me through all accessories and was incredibly honest about what was needed and what was overhyped in his opinion. At no point did I feel like Jon was selling me on something I didn't need. The following day, Jon had built my bow and was ready to hit the range. He shared tips and tricks while we dialed in my sight and form. Having completed firearm safety and being a customer at Cabin Fever for years prior to new ownership, I was weary about what my new experience would be. Safe to say, I am extremely pleased with the direction this store is headed. I can't thank Jon and the rest of the team enough! I look forward to being a customer for years to come!

Update (June 2026)…read more There have been some improvements with the new ownership / Archery Country folks since my last review. Moving up to 3.5 stars. Though the parking lot bait machine and 'banking hours' are still there as tin-eared reminders to every customer who is squeezing in time on the water or in the woods that new management does not really care about your success. Come on guys, every McDonalds franchisee in America manages to have an opening crew. There's not really an excuse. That said, after a bumpy start the archery country guys seem to have finally started getting their act together in other ways. They have completed a minor reno, and seem to be coming around to the reality that in Minnesota exurbs their customers are multi-sport. Put another way: that firearms, league nights and fishing are useful cross sells and frequency drivers. That no one in this neck of the woods is 'just' an archer / bowhunter. And they've worked hard from what I can tell to retain key employees. Thank god. Bottom line: archery country management is not a replacement for, and will never beat, having a high-iq founder like Jeff, who cares deeply about bringing up the next generation of young people in his community as woodsmen, but it's a big improvement over the initial much misaligned takeover period. And heck they've even started to apply Cabin Fever's superior strategy (eg branding, merchandising depth, x-selling) to some of their other stores in the region. With the improved customer alignment and reduction in not-invented-here thinking, I think the future is looking brighter.
