From other reviews, and my experience I can tell you the one thing in common with unhappy clients - the money gouging. As many others who have written reviews, I too felt I was taken advantage of at this practice. After being told I paid in full I received a near $700.00 bill. Flabbergasted, I called and talked to Wendy who then took no accountability and blamed my insurance for the "miscommunication". After waiting weeks to hear back from Wendy about reducing my bill, I finally reached out again to hear the same answer back about it being my insurance's fault. Hours of phone calls and emails and I can tell you, it was indeed not my insurance's fault - the practice completely misquoted me. Sadly, I would not recommend. Paying an out of pocket cost I was not informed of tells me that this practice focuses on the dollars in their pocket rather than the care their patients receive. The lack of transparency about payments is unethical and they need to change how they quote immediately. As someone who herself has compiled quotes in a medical office, there is no excuse for this. This is the simplest form of bait and switch ploy. To back this 1 star review up even more - my whole experience was anything but smooth. I had three moles removed the same day. It felt rushed and pressured. I didn't even know I was getting them removed that day until billing came in. One mole was on my foot. They did not stitch and wrap it properly and I ended up bleeding through my shoe in Walgreens picking up my prescription. This then led me to passing out in Walgreens. Yes. So fun. I called the Dr. to say I didn't think the bleeding was normal. They had me come back and offered to add more stitches to the toe RAW! No numbing! I declined saying that sounds painful and preferred it to be wrapped instead. The healing process was anything but pleasant but the stitch removal was one of the most painful experiences of my life. The type of pain you grimace just thinking about for days and weeks later. Honestly, the pain from the suture removal comes second under kidney stones for me. I didn't expect this experience to be pleasant but I certainly didn't expect it to be this traumatic. So no, I do not recommend. read more

Dr. Daniel is excellent. He's kind, very knowledgeable, and really cares. I have seen him for botox, acne, lasers, sclerotherapy and skin check / mole removal and would recommend him to anyone looking for a dermatologist. Its a nice clinic. Did not have a great experience here. The moment I walked in I was met by a fast paced, in and out machine like system- not what you want from any medical facility. I went for an annual skin check and all of a sudden I was being hounded to participate in clinical trials-not what I had signed up for. The skin check was extremely rushed and all personnel that I saw did were not personable at all. Overall, it seems like Schlessinger and his team are in it for the money, and offer unnecessary treatments/products and rush through patients to try and make the most money off of people as possible. Not a great experience. My husband went to have some skin tags and moles removed. Instead of removing the entire mole, they just take a piece out and test it. If it is cancerous, then you have to go back and have the rest removed. I have heard this is common practice, but it makes no sense to me. Why leave some left? My husband's biospy was not conclusive, but they wanted to remove the rest just in case. We opted to wait. I feel you should be given the choice upfront. Why pay for two different office visits and procedures. We also paid them $1200. When we recieved a bill in July, it looked like only $800 had been applied. I called them and found out that they do not list the skin tag removal's on their statements as those are cosmetic and are not submitted to the insurance. It felt a little shady. How hard would it be to list one line item that says Skin Tag Removal $400 paid $400? Especially, when two different procedures are being done on the same day. read more

I had an appointment schedule for well over a month for a tattoo removal. they told me it would be $200, okay great that's fine. less than 24hrs before my appointment, they call to tell me that they raised the price to $250. a retroactive appointment, I should not have to pay $50 extra last minute. probably won't come back because nothing was taken care of and they claimed they were going to ask the clinic director and never did. read more

I actually saw this doctor when I first moved to Omaha back in 2009/2010 he was injecting me with Dysport even though I asked for Botox. After doing this several times, I ended up having dents - literally indentations in my face in certain spots as tho the skin/muscle has atrophied. When I stopped by to show him he tried to fast talk me, made me feel that I was imagining it, and became very agitated And talking loud in an area where other people could hear. I told him to lower his voice that no one else needed to know my business. I was actually just online looking for a new place because we have moved to Plattsmouth and the place that I've been going to for years is no longer convenient with being on the extreme west side; and what do you know, I see his business and all of these terrible reviews. I finally feel validated that it was not my imagination, and that my experience with him was real. And @Felicia "business owner", stop dismissing and minimizing what these people are saying here in your replies to them. I went in for acne on my face and just like another person they made me pay $170 co pay before I even did anything and I thought my insurance would be able to cover it. And then once I got into the room the lady before the dr kept pushing me to buy they're lovely skin products because it's "the best thing ever" it was a cleanser moisturizer and pm serum and I told them I already had all of that and then kept saying you should get these because it's better. And then the dr came in and took a look at my skin and then prescribed me 2 medications and a cream. I personally don't feel like I was taken care of because of how fast it went and how non interactive he was with me with asking questions and getting to know my problems. After a couple weeks of using the cleanser and pm serum and medications and cream I got, I have a huge rash on my neck and my skin is so flakey and dry to the point I can't even do my daily routine from how irritated I am with my skin. I believe it's an allergic reaction but my neck is red and spotty and my skin just burns all the time day and night. read more

Wow I wish I had read these reviews BEFORE visiting Sr Schlessinger. Everything stated described my experience. I felt diminished and unheard. I have severely chapped lips. He just wanted to sell me his product and it made it worse. He also wanted to removed 4 precancerous moles. When I asked him to show me which ones they were he seemed offended. He literally walked out the door and half responded Ashe left. I later got a second opinion and was treated w respect and he confirmed my suspicion t at my "precancerous moles" did not need to be removed or pose any danger. My only consolation is that I will never have to walk in that place again. read more

I was very disappointed in my experience with Dr. Schlessinger. When I came in for a Botox consult last fall, he suggested more Botox than I was comfortable with, plus wanted to do some filler. I hadn't even considered filler before. I said I just wanted to do a small amount of Botox for this first time. His assistant prepped me for the procedure, and then he walked in the room and said he wasn't going to do any Botox since I didn't want to do all of it plus the filler. I had even already paid!! I think even his assistant was startled and embarrassed at his behavior. He was so abrupt and rude. Basically, I left feeling like my face wasn't worthy of his time. Plus, my face was numb since I was already prepped. Really bizarre behavior. He clearly doesn't care about providing quality patient care to the people who can't afford or aren't interested in the higher dollar procedures. From reading the other reviews, it seems I'm not the only one who felt pressured to get more expensive procedures. And I'm not the only one who thinks Dr. Schlessinger is rude and condescending. read more

Went to see Dr Joel Schlessinger for two separate dermatologic medical problems. During the clinic visit Dr Schlessinger did not assess one of the areas of concern and made recommendations for the problem with a drug that he had never prescribed before. Dr Schlessinger pressured me to get an expensive treatment in his cosmetic practice for the condition which would not be covered by insurance. He did not review all the options or pros and cons to treating the condition. Furthermore, I asked Dt Schlessinger what classification the drug he was prescribing was in and he had no response (he didn't know). I asked him how many patients had he treated with the same dermatological condition, how many times had he prescribed the said drug to other patients and what were his outcomes. He admitted that he hadn't prescribed the drug prior and didn't know if it would work. He had no evidence based practice to share. Dr Schlessinger was flustered by the questions. He appeared mad and impatient with the questions presented. He wrote prescriptions (3 of them and had his nurse call them into my pharmacy) without a follow up appointment. I know, as a Registered Nurse myself, these are low standards and this is malpractice. Dr Schlessinger is not astute and would never make it in our high performing acute care (any hospital). He is a disappointment to our medical field. read more

The only reason I resorted to going to Dr. Schlessinger's clinic was because it was so easy to get an appointment and I realize why now. While Dr. Schlessinger is a fine Doctor and Dermatogist, when you go simply for skin checks you end up seeing his PA Jackie whom is not pleasant or friendly and even more concerning not very competant. After suffering through several visits involving basal cell removals I am moving on as I always have problems with the proceedures while other Dermatogist do just fine at such task. If you can actually get Dr. Schlessinger to do a removal great, but usually Jackie does them and I have had staph infections induced by poor hygene practice at the clinic. This place is all about making money and caters to cosmetic surgery. Period. I am sorry to be so abrupt and negative but in this case it is warranted. So if you want a face lift fine. If you just want to have a Dermatlogist for skin checks, look else where. read more

I've been struggling with acne and toenail fungus for 10 years. For fungus I've been on lamisil in the past and it didn't work. For acne I've taken everything you can think of from proactiv, retinA, differin, antibiotics like minocycline. It never solved the problem bc once you get off it comes back. I walked in explaining all of this and what do you know they want to prescribe antibiotics and lamisil (which I had an allergic reaction to this time around) when I came in for the follow up appointment I was told there wasn't much they can do. I know some things are hard to treat but spending $175+ to be told this is really annoying. Plus I've studied laboratory medicine I know being on antibiotics is not good when it's not necessary. I just felt unheard and not taken seriously. Not to mention making me feel dumb when asking questions and the push of drugs. Overall a waste of my money and time I could not recommend this place. read more

I would never recommend Dr. Schlessinger to anyone. He's a terrible doctor who runs a terrible practice. He put me on a medication that nearly killed me, I had to be rushed to the emergency room. Then I followed up with him after the incident and he made a joke about how "one more of those and you'd be dead" never acknowledging responsibility for being the one that put me through some much pain and trauma. If I could leave a 0 star review I would. The Dr. is incredibly rude. Talked to me as though I was an idiot. Asked if I've ever tried dieting and then told me I need weight loss surgery. Also told me he would not give me lip fillers because he didn't think I needed them. I didn't know that because this man thinks I don't need any fillers, I should auto.automatically be confident enough without trying them. I have two daughters who have both gone to this office. Did not see Dr. Schlessinger but his associates. They spent a total of 5-10 minutes with each, did not address our concerns and made it feel rushed. They are overpriced and misdiagnosed both of my girls. The staff in the office is not friendly and the overall experience was bad. Thankfully we have found a good dermatologist. read more

On a recommendation, I took my girls into see the Dr, then went with the PA after the Dr. was not in the office the 3 times we have visited. My insurance does not pay for him so I have to pay the copay every time. With 2 girls going on their every 6-8 week protocol, it gets out of sight expensive. For my convenience, I made my girls' appointments together. But that was too long for my one daughter to go between appointment (longer than the most 8 weeks they allow) so they will not refill her meds. By the time she can return in 2 weeks, the follow up on meds will be a mute point as any progress made has already been undone 10 days in. I believe their having to be seen every 6-8 week policy is a money making scheme. My girls have seen other dermatologists annually and refilled their medications all year! My daughters liked the PA and I truly believed she knew what she was doing (besides trying to sell me their skin care line). I did not cancel the appointments, trying to decide what to do. Then the pharmacy called today and stated the office called and said BOTH girls were no longer patients at the clinic. Seriously, that is very professional. Proves my point...they do not care. As a parent of teens...I will be telling all my friends to avoid at all costs. Appointments have been made elsewhere. Lucky for me...they are actually seeing a dermatologist!! After getting one, I received a call the same day cancelling because even though they accept Medicare, they didn't accept my secondary insurance because it was Medicaid sponsored. First of all let me ADVISE EVERYONE what a joke this place is. My mother went in, prepared to pay cash, but they were adamant on having her insurance info. She explained over and over that she would pay cash. Nope. They wanted to see what insurance would pay first. That's SOOOOO WRONG especially after they were told her insurance wouldn't cover what she was in for. STRIKE 1. As she was waiting to see the doctor, his assistant had the audacity to scold my mother for chewing gum and made her spit it out, claiming that the doctor is strictly against gum chewing. WHO DOES THAT????? STRIKE 2. Prior to the appointment, my mother discussed in length all of her concerns she wanted to address and wouldn't you know ALL the doctor was interested in and spoke to her about was the Botox she was considering. He ordered the assistant to administer 'X' amount of Botox and walked out, never giving my Mother time to discuss the other concerns she came in for. STRIKE 3. When my Mother brought up the fact that she still had other concerns, the assistant stated she had to go down the hall to the dermatology side of the hallway and here's the kicker HE'S THE ONLY DOCTOR THERE. So what? Does he spin around in a closet, change his gloves and magically become a dermatologist? We thought that's what he WAS! Unbelievable!!! That was the nail in the coffin, so to speak, for my Mother that this was NOT an office she would EVER give her hard earned money to. At the end of the visit, the assistant told my Mother "ok, lets get started ..." and when my Mom told her she wanted to think about it, the assistant became agitated and put off that she decided to wait. She told my Mom "YOU WANT TO THINK ABOUT IT?! Well, this discount is only good today!" RI-DIC-U-LOUS!!! We were referred to this office too. I will be sure to let the office that referred her to stop referring patients here and I will tell them why. Word of mouth is HUGE in this industry. Dr. Schlessinger shouldn't be practicing. He prescribed me a dangerous drug, assured me it was safe, and basically told me at worse I would get a sinus infection. I developed a rare and debilitating side effect from the drug that resulted in a now chronic, awful medical condition that he never told me could happen. I discovered after that it was well-documented in the literature as a side effect to the medication. When I told him what was happening to me, he failed to recognize the side effect, misdiagnosed it, and told me that what was happening to me was impossible because "the drug couldn't do that". Basically, he had no idea what side effects the drugs he was prescribing could actually cause and pushes them on patients without adequate risk education. I went to another dermatologist after for care. The other dermatologist immediately recognized the issue, diagnosed it correctly, and told me that what Dr. Schlessinger had told me was wrong. In addition, he spends very limited time with his patients and tries to sell his personal product line during appointments to pad his pocket. He is arrogant and overconfident. read more

I'm shocked at some of the reviews I've read here! I had a consultation with Dr. Schlessinger today and was beyond pleasantly surprised! I just moved to Omaha and one of the hardest things for me was leaving behind my network of doctors, personal care, and estheticians with whom I established relationships and trust. I had such mixed feelings about this appointment because of the reviews, so I thought I'd schedule a free consultation knowing I was in control and was not obligated to have treatments here if I wasn't comfortable. Dr. Schlessinger was extremely warm and engaging. He quickly quelled my reservations and concerns, and he listened to what I wanted to achieve. He completely explained procedures, outcomes, and was extremely reassuring. I would not hesitate to recommend him for dermatological or esthetic consultation or treatment! He is wonderful! I must add, I found his staff to be extremely professional, polite, and knowledgeable. read more

After going to this office for 2 years I will no longer be going. I show up to my appointments, I answer all questions, I listen to what I am told. Have people in his office who want to see me and like me. However whenever I interact with the nursing staff it is nothing but poor professionalism. Upon switching medications I was told the new medication had better customer service and could get free samples until we had my health insurance worked out. Then 3 days later I get a phone call saying my insurance was denied and when I asked about the samples. It turned into the company only gives out 1 free sample a month. That is quite different information than I was given. I asked again why that would change and the nurse became extremely argumentative. Yes my attitude will change towards anyone when that happens. You're supposed to be able to vent to your doctors and nurses about how things are going good or bad. Not at this office it is strictly business. No real concern of your well being since I was already supposed to be on medication since Dec. 6th. Well I do leg work and find out there is another appeal my doctors office could do that they didn't even know about. It would also be helpful when the doctors are sending in preauthorizations for medication that they do it in conjunction with seeing their patient instead of submitting them based on old information on the last visit. Those results are a direct result of the medication I was on and am no longer continuing with. You would've seen I was over 10% covered and that changes a lot. Well they call me this morning to see if the new medication had arrived and I said no. I vented and was threatened with " I don't want to have to tell the doctor about your behavior " what are you talking about? Me venting? I ask to specifically speak to my Dr. As I feel there is a miscommunication and instead of that I am put on with the office manager who then says I no longer have care and refuses to let me actually speak to the doctor to make that decision. If this is the type business you run that is a sad business. Not anything I want to be apart of or will I recommend people to use in the future. read more

This ended up not being true as I was halfway into the procedure they told me how much it was going to cost. They say there is a doctor at this place named Joel Schlessinger. But you'll never see him. You only see Physician's Assistants, not even other doctors. Procedures are performed by PA's - even surgery. Nope, there is no Joel Schlessinger as far as I know. Maybe he's in Hawaii enjoying his millions. But he's not working as a dermatologist in Omaha. The people that do work there could be better. I had some sloppy work done by a PA that left a nasty scar. Of course, if she was board-certified, she might have done a better job. read more

After seeing a couple dermatologists in the Omaha area and not feeling right when I leave, I finally made an appointment at Skin Specialists. I am so glad I did. I went in to discuss accutane for my pesky adult acne that wouldn't go away. At that first visit they asked to do a mole check, and I didn't think it was necessary. They insisted that they should take a look, and I am so glad they did. They found a mole on my back that came back as Melanoma in situ. No other dermatologist I went to ever suggested I get my moles checked. Schlessinger is always there to take the time to go over everything with me, and his team made the whole accutane process very easy. just bought a tube of Fix My Skin Healing Lip Balm when I was checking out because I had been in the sun in Texas and my lips were dry. I've used it for a few days now and it's really done the trick. Much better than my chapstick. While I miss the Cake Batter flavor of the of the chapstick, silly as that sounds, the hydrocortisone really seems to work. Says on the label it works for poison ivy..... hope I never have to find out. read more

Been going to him for a couple of years for hormonal acne and to have various skin issues addressed from sun damage. Bed-side manner leaves a lot to be desired... Comes off as very dry, apathetic and uncaring. The front staff isn't much friendlier, either. I took my mom, who was visiting from NM to see him, too. She was friendly with him and warm. He just stared at her and made no attempt at being kind or warm in return. I realize we don't see doctors for their personalities; however, this doctor is now having to advertise on television which makes me laugh. Other doctors are so good, by word of mouth, they don't have to advertise. I'm seeking a dermatologist who I will perceive to give a damn and will offer other treatment solutions besides antibiotics until the end of time. Never again!!! I wish I had read all the reviews before making my appointment!! To start off, they tried to make me pay $170 co pay although I gave them my insurance info and I knew they were in network and my co pay should have only been $30 they tried to tell me I hadn't met my deductible but when I called my insurance to confirm they said nobody had even called to verify my insurance and that I did not have a deductible! It wasn't until I called them out on it that they "fixed it". & just like all the other reviews on here this doctor only cares about doing cosmetic stuff! I went in for nail fungus treatment and he kept asking if there was anything else I needed help with. Originally I wanted to ask about a mole removal but after reading the reviews I decided I didn't want to do it there. I mentioned it just to see what happened and he literally started telling the nurses what supplies he would need for me to get it done and explained in like one sentence what he would do when I had never even agreed or said I was interested!!!!! I went to Dr. Schlessinger's Lovely Skin Spa for a free consultation about Cool Sculpting for my tummy. It is a beautiful facility with polite, well-trained staff. However, I had to fill in 5 pages of health information before 2 young ladies came out, introduced themselves and shook my hand. By the time we got to the consultation room, I told them that super-uber fake friendliness is a turnoff for me, so they dialed it back and explained how we would proceed. When the interviewer read that I have neuropathy, she said that it MIGHT make me ineligible for Cool Sculpting, but the doctor would decide. Then she instructed me to disrobe and put on an ugly hospital gown and disposable panties. In a few minutes she came back and took 8 photos for a 360 degree record of my body. Finally Dr. Schlessinger came in, shook my hand in a perfunctory way, and asked about my neuropathy. He told me right away that it is counter indicative for Cool Sculpting. When I asked why, he warned that the procedure might cause my symptoms to spread to the area being sculpted. I thanked him for telling me so directly -- but I told the young ladies that they could have saved us all a lot of time by telling me immediately that neuropathy would rule out this procedure. In that ultra-polite manner that is taught to people who serve the public these days, the blond lady assured me that it had been a pleasure to meet me and they didn't mind spending this time with me. Well, I resent wasting at least 2 hours of my valuable time and the gas to drive to west Omaha, only to be told something that the scheduler could have told on the phone. Barring that, the woman who went over my medical history with me could have verified with Dr. Schlessinger BEFORE the full-body photo shoot, so that I didn't have to go through this embarrassing, unnecessary, and time-consuming session. read more

The staff took my copay, scanned my insurance card and drivers license then I waited 20 minutes to be called back. The assistant took me to a room and I was told to stand against a wall with a TV scrolling through pictures of patients so she could take pictures of me. This made me very uncomfortable and I explained I was there for my fingernail and I didn't see why they needed pictures of my face and I politely refused her request. The assistant's tone changed and she rushed through the rest of the questions and left. A few minutes later the office manager came in and said it was their policy to take pictures of all patients for "security reasons" and I either let them take pictures or they would refuse service. At that point I just wanted to leave so I said no thank you and I was forced to leave without seeing the doctor. The "security reasons" argument makes no sense since they scanned my state issued photo ID and I question where my pictures would have ended up. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Schlessinger for at least 7 years and have never had a bad experience. His staff are friendly and helpful. He is very kind and actually has a great sense of humor! However, he won't do fillers if he feels it will be detrimental to your looks as he is very conscious of your bone structure. read more

Honestly so heartbroken to review so negatively because this was pretty much my last resort to better skin. I saw Dr. Schlesinger and his PA about a month ago and his PA and nurse staff are very kind. The doctor is nice but slightly awkward. The reason it should be on your red flag list? Not one single person, the 2 nurses, the PA, or the Doctor took any sort of vitals for me before prescribing a slew of drugs that are NOTORIOUS for harming a person's liver/BP/internal health. I left the office and never picked up my prescription because I could not feel safe taking a drug they prescribed if they wouldn't even get my BP down. These are IMPORTANT things to take as a health care provider because a person could have a number of reactions to a drug and having a normal reading to begin with is huge. read more
