I took my 7 year old son to MOD yesterday and we saw Dr. Van Roy. She is amazing! Her bedside manner made a kind of scary appointment for him a very cool experience to learn about caring for his skin and how cryotherapy works. She had done her research the day before on what we were coming in for and was more than prepared to offer suggestions and what we could buy over the counter to continue treatment between appointments. Everyone from the moment we walked in until we left were very welcoming and professional. They want your money period for over priced service. They won't file claims with insurance in the proper manner. Tried to keep an open mind. They don't follow up with you unless you complain. Even after I signed releases for continuity of care timliness was awful several months delays. Nurses are okay but you can tell they are aware it's a sales environment pretending to be a medical care practice. Not impressed. I tried more than one staff and they are pushy and rude acting in ways that no one could really get away stuff or eccentric and make you question what you paid for No real in between. Terrible. I went in for to treat adult acne, I spent 5 min with the dermatologist where she told me to wash my face twice a day (already doing that) and apply two different topical treatments that she prescribed that wasn't covered by insurance and costed $150 out of pocket. Then they sent me THE BILL. Turns out that 5 min visit was $475. They must have increased the visit cost from what I read from others comments. My insurance paid $280 of that and then they added an adjustment of $113 so my total charges owed is $309. I don't know what that mysterious adjustment is. My acne is not better. The visit wasn't even worth a penny, let alone my time. Don't go to MOD derm. read more

If you're looking for a smart, compassionate doctor, look no further. I have loved my visits here and feel so comfortable sharing my derm issues. MOD dermatology recently opened a new office space across from Legacy shopping center off 168th and it is prime location for a doctor's office. It is very convenient for parking and accessibility. She is currently the solo doctor at this location. She has helped me with a couple of skin afflictions that I have had in the last few years- she is super professional and knowledgeable. Update: I was called and asked if I could reschedule with another doctor unfortunately I was not available at the time they wanted. I gave them 3 different options for my availability but none worked. I was then called again the following day and told I needed to go get an ultrasound completed prior to my procedure. That is fine except why let me schedule and then tell me to jump through all these hoops prior to the procedure? I guess I'm very confused why these things weren't explained at my consultation appointment. Things seem very unorganized. I drove 30 minutes to a scheduled appointment. Arrived in plenty of time for paperwork and had my referral with me. The building is very nice and the ladies at the front are very helpful and friendly. I was seen by the PA and was very disappointed in my appointment. She probably spent a total of 5 minutes with me, possibly because it was a Friday afternoon. When I originally scheduled I stated what the referral was for but also I wanted to talk about some options for my face, wrinkles, neck, and would be paying out of pocket. She gave me a brochure, told me to use vitamin A oil and when I asked about more options she was very hurried and really had no interest in it. I will return for my original procedure because I'm not sure I want to find a new place and go through all this again but I wouldn't recommend being treated by the PA if your looking for cosmetic options. read more

Initial appointment was great, they scheduled me in way sooner than any other dermatology place could, they removed what I needed removed, and everything was totally great. Then the rest of it hit. Got a $185 "lab fee" for the testing they did on the removed item, which I was never told there would be a charge for. When I first paid the $250ish visit amount during my initial visit, the receptionist told me this amount was so high to cover basically anything that was done during my appointment, and then if it ended up costing more than what I had done then they'd refund me. So at the end of my visit when the nurse said "we're going to send this sample in for testing" and I asked if that was normal and she responded "we always send everything in for testing", I assumed that would be covered under part of the $185, but apparently that was not correct at all. Then I called and spoke with the billing team and explained the situation, but she explained that testing charges are separate from the visit charges, and told me that I always have the option to not have that done and that she'd talk to the office workers about this to make sure they're aware. So I paid my charges and figured I'd at least know this for the future but still love MOD Dermatology overall because of my generally good experience. Then, the issue returned and I scheduled another visit, everything went the same as before and was totally fine, everyone was really helpful and friendly and they got me in super early and the experience was great, I paid my $250ish amount again for the visit, and everything was totally fine, right up until the end. At the end, the same nurse again told me they were going to send my sample for testing, and I told her I absolutely did not want that done, the doctor knew exactly what it was and it had just been tested 3 weeks previously. The girl said they always have to send them in, and I explained to her that I had an entire discussion with their billing department and they assured me that I did not have to have this done. The girl then said that she'd talk to someone at the front desk and figure it out, but I was good to go. I left, feeling great, had another good experience, my finger was feeling much better and I'd handled the testing issue and paid and was totally clear and should be good from here. Then three weeks later I get a call from their nurses line telling me the testing (which I had said I did not want) had come back clear (again, Shocker). I explained to the nurse the same thing I explained to the billing person and the nurse who previously was supposed to "talk to the front desk about not sending my sample in", and the nurse said she'd put some notes in there regarding it, and we ended the call. So then I'm feeling a bit better, maybe it was a miscommunication issue and they'll own up to them mistakenly sending the sample for testing and I'll be fine going forward. Then the same billing person from the last time called and explained to me that MOD Dermatology always has to send all samples for testing - even if the patient doesn't want it sent for testing - even though that directly contradicted what she'd told me the last time we talked. The billing person then explained that the last time we talked she had not been saying that I could choose whether or not I wanted my sample sent in for testing, it always has to be sent in for testing even if it was just tested 3 weeks previously. Instead, she says that she was saying that if, during the visit, I decided not to have the item removed, then that was my choice and then they wouldn't send it for testing (because it would literally be attached to my body). So I asked her why on earth I'd go back to a dermatology office, pay $250+ for the visit to look at the same item I previously had it removed, and then NOT HAVE IT REMOVED AGAIN, just to avoid the testing. I'm beyond disappointed with this experience. What started out so great turned into nothing but hidden and additional charges for every single visit, even when things were specifically requested to not be done. If I'd known from the beginning that I had no choice but to pay an additional $185 for specimen testing on top of the $250 I already paid for the visit itself each time I went there, I would have never went with MOD Dermatology, and I would have directed anyone I know to not go here either. It's unfortunate that I had to learn this the hard way since not a single person at MOD Dermatology, even the billing person, could warn me or explain this to me until after all the tests and bills had been done and sent, even after conversing multiple times. And maybe $185 isn't a lot to most people, but to a single income family with multiple kids under the age of 2, multiple surprise charges of $185 on top of the normal $250+ visit charges is absolutely ridiculous and incredibly frustrating. read more

Very poor experience... -High payment due at checkin to ensure they make a little money in interest and will refund you after insurance goes through ($351 PER visit to be exact and when you need to go over lab results and tell them you can't afford to you another $351, their response is "well best of luck to you then") -rude staff (they act more as a cosmetic dermatology group versus one interested in skin challenges) -slow results -lack of attention to patients during the visit I would highly suggest using other providers in Omaha as there is much better, more attentive, and more polite offices. read more

Melanie Ortleb is by far my favorite skincare expert I've ever seen. I'm currently 31 and have been suffering from cystic acne since my mid 20s. She was kind and explained possible causes and treatments and their side effects and made sure to consider my input. She recommended chemical peels and after 2 so far, I've already noticed a significant difference even though you normally need more sessions. She's also really knowledgeable about skincare and is who I plan on going to in the future. read more

Ruined my skin. My son went to Mod shortly after they opened for teenage acne. He started out seeing the doctor but was quickly passed along to the PA. They put my son through two extended rounds of accutane, seven types of facial cream, oral antibiotics, and antibiotic creams. Now his skin is worse than when he started and we paid A LOT of money. And he went through two rounds of very harsh medication over a 2-3-year period of time. They just keep repeating the same treatments over and over. I first went in there for adult cystic acne and melasma during my son's first accutane cycle. Just like my son, I started out with the doctor and was passed straight along to the PA after reception told me that they just absolutely couldn't find any appointments with the doctor. At my initial visit, they literally stepped me through the exact first few visits that my son had; retinol and antibiotic lotion, antibiotics, very expensive compounded creams, etc. The creams broke capillaries all over my face because they were too harsh. They switch the compounded cream and eliminated a couple of things from it. The harsh compounded cream dilated tiny red capillaries that spidered out all over my face. The capillaries broke all around my nose and on my cheeks and are very visible. The retinol and/or hydroquinone was too harsh for my skin and also got perioral dermatitis that I still battle to this day. I got additional melasma patches where the perioral dermatitis was AND where the creams caused irritation. When I pointed the additional issues out all they did was suggest (up sale) cosmetic procedures to remove the capillaries at $250 a section, of $500 chemical peel for the melasma. She wouldn't even consider that their treatment was causing extensive damage to my face and exasperating the issues I already had. Every time I came in it was like the first time they had ever seen me, showing that they obviously weren't looking at my chart. They kept telling me the same thing; to try this, try that, keep going, switch back to this. Everywhere I would get damage I started to get these little bumps that wouldn't go away and melasma patches. The permanent bumps that would fill with what I assumed was keratin, but did not look like pimples and didn't have a white center. I could squeeze them out and they'd fill right back up within 2 days. The PA told me they were milia and when I suggested that they weren't, she took an extruding tool to try to remove the "milia", said it was stubborn and proceeded to grab a SCALPEL and cut into my face without anesthesia or numbing cream, digging and cutting for several minutes until I was in so much pain I told her to stop. When she "just couldn't get the center out." I told her that's because it's not a milia. She bandaged my face and I left. She created a pit in my face and a permanent scar. Both my son and I look worse than when we started there. I no longer get cystic acne, but I have full face melasma now, a pitted scar on my chin, an extensive amount of damage and broken capillaries to my face, and scarring around my nose. I also have a dark circle of melasma around my mouth because of the dermatitis. I also have a dark circle of melasma around my mouth because of the dermatitis. I might as well have lit the money on fire while it was sitting on my face. I spent well over $10,000 out of pocket for my son and I plus very expensive compounds and creams. I went along with everything because they were professionals, not me. I never had acne as a teenager, but my face looks like it now. I am heartbroken and this shouldn't ever happen to anyone! This is already too long and I can't even get into their unorganized billing procedures and additional costs. read more

I have gone to Dr. Ortlieb since she opened her practice. I used to really look forward to the friendly atmosphere and even stopped in each year to drop off an office Christmas gift; that is how much I thought of this office. The past two years has been a totally different experience. The front office staff is aggressive, obnoxious, scary and toxic. Once you get into the exam room, Dr. Ortlieb, Pam and Sarah are knowledgeable, fun to visit with, and we frequently chat about Investigations. But the toxic office staff leaves you wondering why you are paying someone to mistreat you and like they are doing you a favor by you being there. I have always paid on time, been timely to appointments, and done as I was told but it now appears that loyalty and consistency only goes one way. I have a Chiropractor, a Hematologist, A Pulmonolgist, a General Practitioner, a Nurse Practitioner, a Dentist, An Acupuncture Doctor, and a Cardiologist, and every single office; both staff and doctors have told me at one time or the other that they appreciate my business and enjoy having me as a customer/patient. You will never be treated as a priority by this current office staff. Even the dates of the other reviews will show a sharp trend downwards in care and concern since 2018 and I highly concur. If you are over age 55 (male or female), a loyal patient/customer, and are expecting a warm and welcoming environment, I would highly suggest you go elsewhere. It is really sad when you have built a relationship with someone from the ground up only to realize that your business and loyalty has been wasted. Makes me very sad as I have spent the past eight years driving an hour + to come to an office that treats people like they are a vulgar nuisance. Shame on me for being so stupid. read more

After 8 long years of seeing a different provider for my Perioral Dermatitis, I have finally received the answers on how to address this! Saw Dr. Mary Ottman, highly recommend seeing her if you have similar issues. I was informed by my former dermatologist that nothing causes Perioral Dermatitis and nothing cures it which is entirely inaccurate. I loved this place when it was new and just Dr. Ortleb. However, it's a nightmare now and I had to find a new place. First, you will never get Dr. Ortleb, just a PA. When I insist on Dr. Ortleb, I have to wait at least nine months. Ok, I did, but then get rescheduled. So now we are at a year. But wait, we get rescheduled again. For another nine months!!! So I say ok and then they call to reschedule again. I was done. I will die of skin cancer before I ever get in there. And no, I don't want a PA. I have tried to PA's and both were not even close to Dr. O. One had me terrified my bug bites were possible bed bugs just because the bites were sort of in a line? They were not bed bugs and I have the exterminator inspection bill to prove it. Second, I brought my son in for an issue and the PA couldn't find it but Dr. O found it in seconds. It's a shame they seem to be more concerned about money than patient care. Just throwing PA's at everyone so they can herd us through. We have moved elsewhere. read more

Don't even consider going to a different dermatologist. Dr. Ortleb is a physician who is board certified in Dermatology, which means you get the most expert care available. I have never been to a more thorough dermatologist who takes so much time bedside. Apart from her practice being private, which means patients actually matter rather than being in a big system and getting lost, Dr. Ortleb's staff is attentive and courteous. Dr. Ortleb is a pro. I have taken both my kids to her for acne, I go for my own aesthetic needs, and have sent a dozen others there to get their skin needs addressed. I have never had a bad experience and I have been with her for over a year. Apart from taking care of the standard dermatological diseases, she is a pro at botox and other aesthetic procedures. I love the atmosphere as well, and the availability to buy skin products at great prices. There is a wonderful aesthetician at her practice as well who does a lot of procedures like microneedling and chemical peels.
