Stopped in for dinner on the way back to Louisville from Nashville. I'm a big fan of Schlotzsky's Albuquerque Turkey and it sounded like an easy dinner. When I walked up to the counter one employee was obviously done with her shift and heading for the door. She was the only employee visible. After gathering up a few things she departed and then made mention of the fact that I was standing there to staff that wasn't visible. I stood there a good 3 more minutes before anyone came to take my order, making it nearly 5 minutes from the time I reached the counter with no one else in front of me. After placing my order (I felt like an intrusion) I got my drink and sat while my Albuquerque Turkey was being made. I was the only customer in the restaurant. My sandwich came out in less than 10 minutes, which makes sense since I was the only person there. I saw a staff member exactly once more after I got my food, and that was to give someone a Cinnabon. I must have sat at the table for 15 to 20 minutes and at no time did anyone come out to clean up the several dirty tables or to address the nearly full trash. This wasn't, by any means, the best visit to a Schlotzsky's I've ever had and the service was lacking, but it was a quick stop on my way to somewhere else. read more

Bought a small original after seeing the chefs on Fast Foodies make copycat versions of their sandwich. I only had Schlotzky's one other time and it must have been while traveling because I can't remember where I was. The selling point is the bread. Soft and crispy at the same time, this bread adds a unique texture to the crisp of the toppings and the firmness of the meat. The sandwiches were great. Be prepared for a wait because the place is popular. It's a carve out of a gas station. The new Bucees coming in next door may eventually shut this place down. Schlotzky's sandwich maker does a great job to give you a good experience so think twice before grabbing one of those pre made Bucees. read more

I have always had a fondness for this restaurant's bread. Love the meat combo with cheese and a large size will give you more than one meal. If I was just grading the sandwich, it would be a 5, but since this location was in a gas station setting it felt dirty and the staff was a bit suspect. read more

Great on a road trip cuz it was healthy and much better than mediocre fast food burgers. We stop at this joint on the way to and from seeing the grandkids. Hidden little gem in the middle of nowhere. We were driving from Nashville to Chicago and decided to stop by to get gas. We were originally thinking of getting McD but since we were already getting gas we went inside. There is also a grocery store inside. The restaurant also sells Cinnabon and Carvel ice cream. The corner is set up nicely with a few booths and tables. The food is really good. It's on par with Panera I would say. Much better than your average fast food place. My husband came here to get dinner I ordered the orchard salad the croutons on the salad were stale (didn't even know they could go stale) the aplle slices were brown gross my dog wouldn't even eat them seriously she spit them out the vinaigrette dressing was straight vinegar worst salad ever my husband's sandwich was supposed to have avocado on it I suppose it did but it was a dollop amount he couldn't even taste it. Years ago there used to be a couple Schlotzsky's where I'm from in Indiana but for some reason never caught on. I'm a big fan of the bread they use, so when we're traveling and see a Schlotzsky's we like to stop. Never disappointed. This particular one at exit 38 off of I65 is part of a large travel center/Shell station - grocery store, convenience items, fresh foods, drinks, Schlotzsky's - you name it! Looking for something not like face food with fresh ingredients. Found it!!!! Had the delish Turkey, Bacon with smoked cheese and their baked potato soup. Surprisingly delicious sandwiches and flatbreads in this higher-end gas station convenience store. This gas station is very clean and the convenience store inside is more like a full grocery store with fresh produce and frozen foods, so clearly it caters to more than just travellers passing through. Inside is this deli, which has a healthier looking menu than most fast-food chains you would normally see taking up residence here. I ordered the vegetarian ciabatta, wife got the chicken avocado flatbread. Both were made fresh to order. Flavors were outstanding given our expectations for the area. Do you wonder why there aren't more Schlotzsky's left in the world? Maybe the one in Smith's Grove KY is a good example. Wife asked the counter person before ordering if they still have gluten free bread. Yes we do but there is an extra charge. Great my wife said and proceeded to place her order, my sons & mine. 3 total sandwiches, 3 drinks. Food arrives several minutes later to the table minus my wife's sandwich. The associate says, "We did find a gluten free bun in the back but it is completely frozen, is there something else you would like?" We replied No since it has to be gluten free. Associate said, "Well, I'll have to get you a refund", and left. Meanwhile my son takes a bite of his sandwich that was ordered to be meat and cheese only (and correctly is listed that way on the receipt) to find it covered in black olives. We take the sandwich to counter to get it corrected. Several minutes later a corrected sandwich is delivered but the refunded on the gluten free sandwich has not been completed. Associate finally figures out the mystery of the cash register and hands my wife the $7.50 back in cash even though we paid with an Amex. As we were finishing up and getting ready to leave, the assistant manager comes to the table to say that they will need to issue the refund via our Amex and that we have to give the cash back that her employee gave us. I said "You have got to be kidding me. Does anyone working here know what is going on? My wife clearly asked before the order was started, if they have gluten free bread options." The assistant manager reminded me that they DID have the gluten free bread. I replied, " It doesn't matter if it is frozen solid and unusable " And so ends our once every 2 years stop at Schlotzsky's. The only positive about this visit was with 2/3rds of our order incorrect/unavailable , my attention on the couple with the Non-service dog, eating at their table was distracted. I would guess that this is a health code violation even in Kentucky. read more

Traveling through on 65N we saw Schlotzky's come up so we exited. When I saw it was at a gas station I was hesitant but I was starving so went with it anyway. We went to the drive thru and ordered the California chicken avocado flat bread to split. I've had Schlotzsky's pizza before and they've been great so I figured we were safe. When we got our order and I opened it both the chicken and avocado were in huge chunks. Large enough that they would need to be cut to even take a bite. The rest of the ingredients were slipped on as well. I picked up one piece and the bread was soggy and limp. I don't return food so we just threw it away. read more

I was surprised at how tasty this Schlotzsky's was being part of a IGA and Shell gas station. Was skeptical but made for a nice little dinner stop for my family and I! The service was pretty good and quick at getting our orders out to us. They didn't have ice for the soda machine so we had to get our drinks in the IGA which is ok because it's in the same building so that was convenient! They also sale Cinnabon here so go ahead and get dessert or breakfast for the next day! read more

I've been commuting between Nashville and Louisville for nearly a year and a half, and I only recently discovered this excellent midpoint pit-stop in the past month or so, making me regret all the long three hour pushes I would do just to find a decent place for a snack. So I was on a sweets crave and the warm Cinnabons sold here are freakin' ace like every time. Smith's Grove has become a cool little exit, I look forward to my minimum 2x weekly round trip Louisville to Nashville now. read more

I've been wanting to try this place for a while now, but not a lot of locations are accessible to truck drivers, which my husband is one. I saw this one was located next to a truck stop, so we stopped here. The menu has a great variety of stuff and the food was awesome. Why the three star rating, you ask? The wait was painfully long for what we ordered. I got a flatbread and salad and my husband got a sandwich and soup. We waited about 10 minutes and there was only two people ahead of us. Another thing is I ordered the chicken chipotle pesto flatbread, and there wasn't any pesto on it. I think they got pesto confused with avocado because that's what came on the flatbread. The servers collect there paycheck here while looking for somewhere else to try and excel. On Sunday and Wednesday they will hide the fact that it's "KIDS EAT FREE" day. They practice their stone faced boredom while you try to select what to eat. They have to receive an invite from a customer before they'll clean the tables or floor or seats. You have to wait for them to finish talking about their other job possibilities with other employees before they'll bring you your food. read more

Gave one star because I had to! If you have never eaten at a schlotzsky's DON'T let this be your first experience!! I love schlotzsky's but this Location is the PITS!!! Waited and waited to even get my order taken while the workers just looked at the line like wow I'm not doing it! Got the original which is my favorite it wasn't good at all the mustard was overwhelming the broccoli cheese soup was barely lukewarm and the pizza was just GROSS!!! Watched a lady bring her cinnamon rolls back twice then got a refund from the " manager " who not once said sorry!! The employees are sloppy and uncaring of there appearance let along there job. Will NOT return to this location but I really hope corporate sends in someone to show them how Schlotzsky's is supposed to be ran!! read more

First timers here...For our fam of 6. The 4 rating is because the veggie sandwiches could have a bit more flavor. Yet it is a much better alternative to the junk food that's on the road as we travel to Chicago from Georgia. This is pretty much the full Schlotsky's experience, in a gas station/travel plaza. It's co-located with a Carvel and a small IGA grocery store. Easy to get to off the highway, clean, and the food was comparable to other Schlotsky's I've eaten at. It was a nice change of pace from the usual fast food at travel plazas. read more
