Sam's Gyros is a hidden gem tucked into an average looking strip mall in Bowling Green, KY. My big regret about Sam's is that though I've spent months in Bowling Green, I hadn't tried Sam's until last week. Well, after my first visit, it's safe to say I've found one of my new Bowling Green Staples! Because of its nondescript location, it can be easy to overlook Sam's as just another restaurant in a sea of restaurants in a bustling College Town. However you'll find that it's often recommended both online and by locals as one of the ideal spots for a Mediterranean lunch. The menu is refreshingly simple, and offers most (if not all) of the entrees for less than $10. The ingredients are basic, but pack a punch where they're needed the most, taste and value. As a dining experience, it's no-frills, and honestly that's not at all a bad thing. Keto/ Low Carb Folks: I'd recommend going for a Chicken or Beef Greek Salad (It's even advertised as 0 carbs!). While there can certainly be some sneaky carbs in this dish, it easily fits what you're looking for in a Keto Meal. They refused to give me a cup of water with my food. It's a big sandwich I just wanted something to wash it down with. The dude was a complete dick about it. He said he needed to make a profit. That's why I'm buying the sandwich, genius. I'm not asking for a free cup of water, I'm asking for a cup of water to help me enjoy the huge sandwich I am PAYING YOU FOR. So dumb. Horrible business sense. Zero hospitality. Zero professionalism. He was basically wearing pajamas back there. The opposite experience of the last time I went when it was a father and son working. Get rid of bald glasses guy who rolls out of bed and comes straight to work. He HIGH KEY does not want to be there, just looking so sad and angry stalking behind the counter in his pajamas. Can't say anything but nice about this place! The only place in the mall I would dare to eat at. It looks clean. The food is delicious. The guy serving you is super friendly and super nice! My husband ordered a Gyro with fries on the side and I had the Gyro salad.my husband loved the Gyro so much the next day he had another one and I had a chicken salad. The guy who worked behind the counter was very nice. The bread was warmed also which was nice. The meat tasted like it had been sitting under a heat lamp or a hot water tub for 4 days. The tabouli was rotten. That's honesty the best description I can give it. The hummus was so runny that looked like diarrhea. Again, the best and nicest description that I can give it. The bathroom was disgusting, so I had to go next door to Kroger to use the facilities. But again positives. The guy serving the food was super nice. Like previous ratings, the chief was AMAZING and let us try out some baklava and wrapped grape thing. The service was Great however personally I can't hear him that well ( I have a ear infection so I can't hear well ). The Ambience is also very good considering the fact that it feels like a Mediterranean restaurant with its amazing food ( Never been to any Mediterranean country ). Oh and right I got the Gyro with onion and lettuce along with these sauce and it was amazing. It's great! I love it and eat here all the time. Two things though: I have asked for chicken every time and they give me beef (not a huge deal so I don't correct it) and there has been hair in the food twice now. I've left a review here before but for whatever reason yelp prompted me to leave it again and wiped my old one....anyway, still a fan! This is a fast food gyro place though they also have burgers, mixed platters (gyro meat and chicken w/ rice), etc. Gyros and platters prepped "subway" style--your choice of toppings--and made to order. The taziki sauce is a bit more mayo-based than most Persian, Arabian or Greek restaurants but it's still tasty. The fries are super crispy and interestingly spiced. The gyros are solid, very good and cheap--and they load them heavy with meat and toppings particularly for the price. Friendly service, clean location and good food for a pre-movie snack or a post drinking recovery! read more

For a completely random restaurant in the mall, I think this is the best place to eat in the mall. It's where the wendys used to be. The only other place in town that serves (good) gyros is a taste of Europe on the square. While I prefer that one over Sams, I'm perfectly content to eating here. The meat is always hot. They overload your pita bread when meat and your choice of traditional toppings. They have different side items, but being an american, I prefer the French fries. They have wonderful, flaky baklava for dessert, if you so wish. The only issue I have with the food is that the tzatiki sauce isn't very thick. Using whole fat yogurt vs skim/1% would give a gyro sandwich a needed kick. This isn't enough to sway me from eating here though. The prices are very very reasonable. They make the prices to where the tax will round to the nearest dollar, so you don't have to worry about counting change...if you're one of THOSE type. Great experience, wonderful, authentic experience even though it's in the mall. Highly recommended. read more

If you're looking for a gourmet gyro experience, this place isn't for you. If you want a cheap, tasty meal from a friendly staff, then this is a good place. I cannot believe this place has an average 5 star rating, that is WAY optimistic. I mean, seriously, WAAAYY OPTIMISTIC. If I had never had a gyro before, I would simply think I didn't like gyros after having one here. I have had gyros before, though, good ones. And I know this ain't it. I hate it that there are people in Bowling Green who will never try a gyro anywhere else because of this place, they will be missing out on what is usually a really good sandwich. Trust me, people, this is not what a gyro is supposed to be. This is a mall-food place where people grab a bite because there isn't much else available. I did not go into the mall with high expectations. I didn't have high expectations when they were making the gyro plate. I prefer ranch over tizikhi sauce and was not thrilled when they said they didn't have any. So, I sat at the table in a surly mood and took a bite. WOW! Everything about the gyro was delicious! Whenever I travel I always eat a gyro somewhere that's known to have the best, and it always comes short of SAMs gyros back home. This is my go to in town. Everything fresh. What should be hot is hot and what should be chilled is chilled. Great sauce and bread. read more

The food is great. I had the falafel and my husband had a gyro. Sometimes they make the falafel too big so it doesn't cook all the way through, so watch for that. The tables are mostly kept clean; it is a fast food atmosphere: tv playing, cheap tables/chairs, ugly decor. The cooks are very friendly. Prices are good for the amount of food. read more

YUCK!! I've had a lot of gyros. I love them. Sometimes I will even make gyro meat myself. The service was super friendly which is why I gave it a star. Other then that don't waste your money. I was traveling through town on a business trip and decided to try this place. I got the combo platter. Blah. Gyro meat was terrible. Like it had been sitting out all day all ready carved in a warming pan. It was disgusting. The chicken was dry and the tzatziki sauce was terrible as well. Nothing was fresh except the parsley. We are visiting from MS and went into Greenwood Mall in Bowling Green, KY. Thought we would try Sam's Gyro in the Food Court. What a treat!! Prices were good but the food was GREAT. I was very impressed with the quality and value of the food at Sam's. I asked the man at the counter if they had a vegetarian platter and he said he could make me one with salad, hummus, falafel, etc. which sounded great to me. I was just hungry and everything looked good. He hooked me up with a heaping plate of 3 dolmades, 2 pieces of falafel, tabbouleh, hummus, rice, salad with all the fixins, drizzled it with tzatziki, and added a pita and fries on the side. All for just $8! The quality of the food was great - and I'm not adjusting expectations for being in a mall food court. It was really delicious. read more
