Wow! This place is SO good! We made a last minute reservation. I was surprised my husband chose this of the 4 places I suggested because he is not generally a big fan of German food. We have had some good German food at other places but not anything earth-shattering UNTIL LAST NIGHT. I, of course, read the reviews to help us select what we were going to choose. But, that went out the window with some of the new items that were recently added. Amanda was our server and so friendly. We enjoyed talking to her. Her suggestions and menu descriptions were helpful. We started out with a wine flight and a cocktail. I moved the creative wine selections, none of which I had tried in the past which was fun. We liked all of them. My husband opted for the coffee cocktail and it was delicious. For the meal, we decided to get a few items and split them. We started with the onion soup. This was like no other we have had. I read that it was best others had tried, and I completely agree. I am not sure if it was the Irish whiskey or the cheddar but dang. My husband despises onions and he really liked it too. We got into it immediately and before the photo! We also ordered the sausages and mashed potatoes app. This was a hefty portion. Super creamy mashed potatoes, very sour sauerkraut and excellent sausage. It was a meat blend with pork and beef so different than I had in the past. Another item my husband doesn't usually like and enjoyed. Next up, we tried for the duck special of the evening but they didn't have it due to the storm, so we opted for the cubed duck with dumplings. Another fantastic dish. We were getting so full and had a hard time stopping but did. We had quite a bit of leftovers. It's not cheap but well worth the price! For the atmosphere, they tout an upscale vibe but I didn't get that at all. It's quite bright in there and reminds me of a German food hall, uncomfortable wooden benches and all. Tried out this place on a Friday night! Walked in no reservation, it was quite busy so we were lucky to get a table! I didn't realize this was an upscale place, I'm thinking typical German casual restaurant. It is definitely more on the fancier side. The vibes were a bit off I will say, as they had live music but it wasn't German music and the restaurant isn't that big. I don't know what they were going for there lol. Food, we started with the pretzel it was not good. Came out cold and was quite small. It came with a cheese spread, but they don't have that creamy warm beer cheese. It was a disappointment. Other food was good, I had the beef stew with Spatzle. I will say it was very salty though. I couldn't finish it. Portion was good and the price point was not that expensive for the size. Will say the special, yagerschnitzel was perfectly cooked. My friend ordered the steak. For $44, it was one of the thinnest cuts I've seen! Now the drinks were fantastic!! There had been talks for a while that a new German restaurant was going to be on my part of town so I've been tracking for a while for Schmankerl to open. I went with a group of friends and was very pleasantly surprised by our dining experience. Walking in, I did not expect it to look as elevated as it did- I was expecting casual place similar to Hollerbach's in Sanford. Instead, it was a nice dining restaurant so I am glad I happen to be dressed up nice for dinner. Think of German food, except elevated. The presentation was nice and the food was tasty. I had the schwabenpfandl, which was pork tenderloin in a cream and white wine sauce, with mushrooms. Let me tell you, the pork tenderloin was cooked PERFECTLY and so tender. I've got to say, the best I've ever had! The cocktails were excellent as well- their version of the espresso martini was amazing. Their rasberry Lorelei was good, and tart. Wow! Ever since having Wiener schnitzel at Oktoberfest in Munich I have been hunting down the closest recipe in Orlando for when I am crazing this dish. Not many places I have found swerve it with the lingonberry sauce. I LOVED IT! I will most definitely be back to try other menu items. The food came out so quick even though the restaurant was pretty full and it was so hot you could tell it was just freshly fried. They also had a nice schnapps selection and beer. I wasn't expecting an upscale German restaurant, but that's what I got and it was delicious. They weren't very busy and there were a lot of servers. Everyone was very attentive. The kids got the chicken schnitzel. Huge portion with two cutlets, perfectly seasoned and moist. I had the veal schnitzel which was equally as tasty and moist. The star of the meal was definitely the beef stew. They don't have a kid menu so be aware if you are with your kiddos you will need to order off the adult menu. The tables were also really small. Stopped in on a Thursday evening for a bit to eat. We did not have a reservation, but were seated quickly and greeted right away. The service here is what stands out for sure. Lots of friendly faces brining food, taking orders, bringing drinks. We started with the pretzel and cheese dip. As a warning it has a lot of paprika in it (not called out on the menu) and it made it a bit spicy for both of us. The pretzel was ok, but nothing that stood out. For the entrée, we decided to share the Fleischpflazerl (veal and pork patty) with a side of potato salad. We also added a side of butterspatzle. All of the food was cooked perfectly and had some great flavor to it. For dessert we shared the warmer apfel strudel and it was perfect temperature warmed with vanilla sauce. I would have loved to have some vanilla ice cream with it as well. There are a few other items on the menu that I'd like to try so will stop back in when I have another occasion to celebrate. Tried this place before a show at the Dr Phillips and it was a nice change of pace. The set up inside was a little strange but we were told the long tables were only there for October fest and not the normal set up. The waitress was kind and the bartender was so very accommodating. My mother wanted kahula and cream but they don't have kahula, he offered up a house made coffee liquor for free and it was excellent! We had a variety of dishes but the two stand outs were the fish and chips and the pork schnitzel. The fish was perfectly flaky with a crisp coating. The schnitzel was very authentic as well. The only thing I was less than impressed by was the up charge for mushroom sauce ($11) for a small bowl of gravy. The gravy was tasty but honesty not worth the price! Orlando-Had this on my to do list for awhile. I read somewhere that it was higher end and to dress up. Not true! Basically it's kind of a "cafeteria style" seating, like most German restaurants. Our waitress, Victoria, was super helpful with ideas on the menu. Our dishes were ok, but not spectacular. We each tried different entrees so we could share and compare! First up was a pretzel which was served ice cold. Odd, and not enjoyable. I asked about it and Victoria stated that they are made earlier in the day and served cold. Next up was the steak tartare. We happened to be downtown and looking for something new. We remembered that the new German style restaurant was open, so of course we stopped in. First off, the place is beautiful, not really sure what we were expecting, but it's very nice. We stopped at the host stand and they asked for my name and phone number, which is fine, but then we were immediately seated, so I thought that was a little strange. Oh well, onto to rest. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. We started off with drinks, my wife had the waldmeister, a gin drink, and it was good. I had the tin drum, which apparently is a German take on an old fashioned. It was different, but that's fine. It was okay, I would probably go with some German beer next time though. We started off with the pretzel and cream cheese dip, there is an option for more pretzels and different dips, but we assumed it would be too much. We were wrong, the pretzel is quite small, I guess we were expecting one of those huge pretzels you get at chain restaurants. Anyway, the pretzel was cold and not really salted, but it was pretty good with the cream cheese spread. Even though we could have had more, I'm glad we didn't, we ordered enough food for dinner. I started with the onion soup, it was very good, you could tell there was a lot of work and love went into making it. One small issue, was we started to feel a bit rushed. At first it was fine, but it didn't stop. More on that later. I was maybe halfway through the soup when the entrees came out. That's fine, I had the pork tenderloin with cream sauce. It was really good, a lot of flavor and very rich. The spatzel was recommended as the side, being traditionally served with it, so I got that. It was a bit underwhelming, it could use some salt. Pretty much just small butter noodles. Not bad, but that's about all I have to say. My wife got the bratwurst, 2 homemade brats with mashed potatoes. Also we had a side of braised red cabbage and the cucumber salad. The cabbage was very good, definitely get more of that. The cucumber salad seemed overdressed, it's probably the way it's supposed to be, but for us, a little too much, all you tasted was the yogurt dressing. It was still nice and refreshing. The bratwurst tasted great, but they were a little dry. When you took a bite, it would crumble apart in your mouth. We had to try dessert, and we had the cheesecake, it's almost a deconstructed Marscapone cheesecake, with the blueberries and ice cream on the side. It was all very good, I will definitely try their other desserts. Overall, it was a very nice time, beautiful restaurant. In between courses we kept being asked if we were done, can we get a box, let's take it away, are you ready for the check, etc. we started to feel very rushed. It wasn't even a full _lace as we arrived fairly early,. So, with all of that being said, I would give it a 3 1/2, the ambiance was fantastic, service was great, except for the being rushed part, but that wasn't really a dealbreaker. The food was pretty good for the most part, a couple of things we didn't care as much for, a couple of the of things we loved. That's a pretty good way to go, in my book. We could tell there was a lot of care and pride that went into everything, so with that being said, we are definitely going to come back, there are a few more things we would love to try. We were sadly the only ones in the restaurant. Erick was very kind and knowledgeable. He was a great salesperson and did a good job upselling. We had the pretzel with cheese dip. The dip was very bitter unfortunately and the pretzel was pretty small. I had the chicken schnitzel. It was worded different on the menu making it confusing. It was excellent though as was the Spatzel. It was an elevated German restaurant. Most German restaurants are more homey feeling. This was was very modern. It was very clean and had ambience. The prices were a little high as well. They had music playing and it was a wide variety from ghostbusters to lady Gaga. Not what I expected from a German themed restaurant. I wish them success but definitely need to market more and work on service in general. Having lived in Germany and vacation there every couple of years I was excited for this place to open. Much like in the U.S. different areas of the country prepare the same named meals a bit differently. (Think meatloaf/mac and cheese). Of course I started with the pretzel and dip. There was nothing wrong with it but it just did not strike me as fresh baked dough from the oven. I then went on to fleischpflanzerl which was fine but seemed like a very city specific regional version. The taste was great just not exactly what I was hoping. The spatzle was pretty good and I hope they add a kase/cheese version to their menu. Apfel strudel for desert was served warm and it also was just fine. I will say they excel in their service. They put forth a fine dining vibe and I felt like I might have been at that Steak Place on Church street. A solid stop for some great German food. The location is right off Orange and just south of Jefferson. Find parking along the streets or paid garages, not the easiest parking situation. Staff are friendly and helpful. The entrees are wonderful and are quite pricey, all things considered. The server, Erick, asked everyone what side they wanted with their entree but failed to mention her sides are extra and not included. A little bit of deceiving language in his wait style, I was not pleased with that. Additionally, tip is automatically applied to any party size. It was good, but not that good. We came here with a group of 5 and upon walking in we were surprised how nice it looked inside but we felt there was no German theme in the restaurant. The restaurant has a very upscale ambiance. There was live music there as well but not German music the music was great but just didn't fit the vibe of the restaurant. Our server was good but there were times we were waiting a while to order and get the check. They also were not able to split the check out 3 ways which was a little inconvenient. We all ordered drinks and they were very good. Some drinks on the menu are priced well and others are pretty overpriced. For the food there are some really great flavors on some items and feels like some corners cut on other items. Some of the portions were very small as well. For appetizers we got the pretzels (Obazda & Brezel) and the Onion soup (Zwiebel Suppe). We were all pretty disappointed that the pretzels were cold when they came to the table like they came out of the fridge and they were very subpar the cheese dip was good. That Onion soup though was the most delicious onion soup I have ever had it was amazing. I got the steak dish Zwiebelrostbraten and for $44 I was very disappointed when a thin NY Strip was placed in front of me like not even a half inch thick. For that price I would definitely expect at least an inch thick cut steak. The flavor was great though and the sauce on it was delicious just very overpriced for a small steak. The steak came with fries and they were terrible. No flavor it was like they were the frozen battered fries you get at cheap seafood restaurants on the beach. I've been looking forward to this restaurant since I saw the sign. I've been following their Facebook, eagerly waiting for the day they'd open. Being a huge fan of German food, I was excited to try it out. We went during their soft opening and were sadly disappointed. The restaurant is large but awkward. The music playing didn't add to the ambiance and had ads, and the lights were insanely bright--like stepping into a JCPenney. I usually wouldn't mention these things, but it's the first fine dining restaurant I've been to with this type of awkward ambiance. The lights were so overstimulating and probably affected how I viewed my food LOL The staff was nice and our waitress was very knowledgeable. Onto the food, the pretzel was great! Highly recommend. It was small, but you can order more for $3 as they give you plenty of dip. I had the Käsespätzle and my boyfriend had the Wildschwein burger, and we shared a side of the Gurkensalat. The Käsespätzle was fine but extremely oily. It was good, but nothing to write home about or pay $18 for. The burger was alright as well, but the bun was comically hard and had zero give to it. My boyfriend ended up cutting the burger into pieces and eating it with a fork. I wouldn't recommend this place to a friend until I try it again. We are so impressed by Schmankerl Stub'n! We were greeted by a friendly hostess staff and immediately noticed the clean, modern, German aesthetic without all the hokey stuff that often comes along with an Americanized German restaurant. The service was comparable to a fancy fine dining experience. The servers were extremely knowledgeable, stopped by just enough, and so professional. Above all, the food was incredible. We ordered the Obazda (Brie based cheese dip) with pretzel and it was excellent. The pretzel was close to as good as you'd get from a pretzel stand in your favorite Bavarian city. As entrees, we ordered the Wiener schnitzel with a side of spätzle. The seasoning in the schnitzel was perfect and the spätzle were scratch made and of so fresh. They were great just buttered (as they come when ordering as a side) and even better dunked in the sauce of the Schwabenpfandl. Speaking of, it won our hearts as favorite food item. I've never had German food before, but we stumbled across this one day driving around downtown and decided to give it a try. Park sucks - it's downtown. There's a parking garage across the street and some street parking nearby. Service was quick. Our server was able to explain parts of the menu hat we didn't understand like make it a jagerschnitzel or what spaetzle was. There's a board on the back wall that has menu items, which we didn't notice until after our meal so we'll definitely be back to try other things. I ordered the dunkel bier gulasch - beef stew paired with butter noodles. I could definitely taste the dark beer they used, but it wasn't over powering. The chunks of beef were super tender, and they don't skim on the meat. The butter noodles tasted homemade, and the pair together was delicious. I looked at my plate thinking I was going to still be hungry, but it was pretty filling. My husband ordered their boar burger with truffle fries. The cranberry jam inside was a little too sweet for my liking, but he was very happy with his burger and said he would order it again. He upgraded his fries to their truffle fries, and they were probably some of the best fries we have had in Orlando to date. Perfectly crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. We went to Schmankerl Stub'n in Downtown Orlando and here is an honest review from my lens dining with a 3-year old toddler and husband at dinner. The ambiance was pretty light and modern. The food tasted amazing and portioned right for my preferences. I have never been a fan of big piles of food and eating large consumptions so these size is what I would consider is normal consumption. The service was excellent, warm and welcoming. I highly recommend making a reservation to the restaurant before coming. Even though the restaurant offers children accommodations, I wouldn't classify it as kid-friendly. The food options is not per se catered to children and I felt like the ambiance is more for couples going on date nights, a business casual dining experience or a foodie girls night out even. Food was hot and tasty. Some Germans we met said it was close to authentic. BUT the atmosphere is sterile and the acustica defending. No way I would walk in if passing by. Just no curb appeal. AND The band was new age inappropriate. Authentic music might have helped the mood. The lighting was like dining in a department store. It's got to be hard with food costs so high. I tried this new German restaurant for lunch. They completely freshened up the interior. It feels pretty formal compared to the prior establishment. Not like you have to show up dressed up, but the interior is nice. When we got there for lunch it was empty except one other table. They're still very new. Our server was very nice. I ordered their burger with truffle fries. The burger was different--it had wild boar meat with pickled red onion and strawberry jam. The burger had a nice presentation. I think they make their own buns. The burger had nice toppings, but maybe wasn't seasoned enough for me. It tasted a little bland. But the fries were delicious. My friend ordered the Rinderbratwurst (sausage with mashed potatoes). His meal looked really good. We shared the apple strudel, which was delicious. After living in Orlando for 25 years, my wife and I were thrilled to discover Schmankerl Stube. It was the best food we've experienced in the city so far! My wife had the goulash, and I had the mushroom dish. Both were seasoned to perfection, with just the right balance of flavors. The portions were adequate, and the prices were reasonable, making it a great value. For dessert, I had the Apfelstrudel, which was exactly how I remember it from Austria - simply perfect! The service was also very friendly and attentive, adding to our delightful dining experience. We will definitely be back to try more dishes. A German German Restaurant! Started with the Gulasch and I enjoyed while the attentive staff watched. Next I tried the viel Wiener Schitzel that was so tender there was no need for a knife.
