All was well today until a THIS dealership that's been around since 1912 told us they will no longer work on our vehicle (that's under warranty and they've only looked at once) because they are afraid they won't satisfy us which could result in them receiving a negative survey. Hold. The. Fork. I drive my Jeep everywhere, for everything. Toting around animals, kids, cleaning equipment, vacations, you name it, she's had 14,000 miles packed on her in 6 months. We knew I drove a lot which is why I got the newer car. There's a safety concern happening in which my wheel tilts harshly left or right on its own at highway speeds. The dealer looked at it for 30 minutes which included a road test that confirmed the concern and reprogramming the wheel and said, "your tires need to be replaced because they're cupped and it needs an alignment." We drove off the lot and the concern was still happening. Within a week, new tires and rims were put on the Jeep and it was aligned. The problem was still happening. My husband was in constant communication with the dealership and we got nothing but the run around for going back in. We were told they needed to confirm with the technician when it worked in his schedule to look at it again. Between him and I, we have 35 years in the business. A technician does NOT determine what they are going to look at and when. Fast forward to today, we were asked when we can bring our Jeep back in and then my husband received a call from the service manager stating, "Per the owner, I was told to tell you that we will no longer touch your Jeep. He doesn't feel we'll be able to satisfy you with the repair and doesn't want a bad survey from it." Hold. The. Fork. X2 We've both been service managers. We've both had to deal with tricky vehicles many times, we both have never told a customer because of potential negative feedback we won't touch your car. Not for any reason! We have a safety concern, a Jeep that's close to 36,000 miles, and we're now being forced to go elsewhere. In addition to this, and this is the BEST part of this whole scenario, the owner relayed to my husband via email, "Your standards are too high." My husband owns his own auto repair business and does quality work at an affordable price. His standards are high because every vehicle he touches he takes seriously and puts safety as his number one priority. As a side note, we both worked for this dealer as well which is why they were our first choice. My husband also refers clients who come to see him with warranty work to go to that dealer because we trusted them. Word of advice: A car purchase is the second largest purchase people make. When you treat them like garbage after they leave your lot, I surely hope you do not expect to be valued and respected within the community. This is why we both left the automotive industry. We were tired of making someone else's dream thrive when the owner(s)/management were nothing but greedy and only cared about the bottom dollar. This is why we both now run our own businesses. Take care of people and in turn they will take care of you. Might I add this dealer also had to repaint another one of our cars 3 times while it was there, damaged interior trim pieces and panels, and hacked up our $1000 magnificent exhaust on our charger. I had a wonderful experience at Schmidt Bros. The woman working the desk is a sweetheart. She was nice on the phone and in person. They clearly know their stuff and caught something I hadn't even noticed - and caught it before my warranty expires so it'll be fixed by the manufacturer. The waiting room is smaller but comfortable. They've got complimentary sodas and water and a tv to watch. I'll definitely be going back in the future. Tip - when you drive up, and over the sensors, if the doors don't open, honk. The doors are a little finicky in the winter. read more

I financed a 2006 yellow and black charger with a Hemi when I first got it was cutting off they claimed it was because you can't fill up the gas tank I kept the car up with maintenance not even a little over a year my engine went out with not many miles over the warranty I was screwed they wanted 10k to fix it what a waste of my money had already paid 7000 on it they knew they sold me a bad car and I dropped it off back at the dealership and they put it on my credit as repo and now I still owe on a 21000 car I don't even have I would not recommend this place to anyone ever!!!! read more

Schmit brothers cost us $1,100 in repairs after telling us there was nothing wrong with our truck. After we showed them proof of the damaged parts they had failed to find, they refused to help us. We were interested in buying an '04 V8 4WD Ford Explorer from a nearby dealership (Eric Von Shledorn). We took the truck to Schmit Brothers Ford to have it independently inspected before we purchased it. We specifically asked for a detailed inspection, because we wanted to be careful buying a used truck, especially one that would be hauling heavy loads (my horses). Schmit brothers spent over an hour "inspecting" it. They noted nothing except some rust on the brakes. Their report specifically says "suspension checks out well." We bought the truck based on their recommendation. The same week, we brought the truck into our local mechanic to get the oil changed and the rusty brakes checked. Our mechanic found that the rear springs were very badly rusted. One was broken in three places, the other broken in one place. We saw this in person. In addition, the ball joints were shot and the parking brake didn't work. When we contact Schmit Brothers about these problems, and provided photos of the damaged parts found by our mechanic, they refunded our inspection fee but refused to do anything about the $1,100 we spent repairing the truck. They said that maybe they would have done something for us if we had called them about the damage the same day... perhaps they might have done the repairs for us. But why would we want these untrustworthy people to repair damage they didn't even tell us about in the first place? Schmit Brothers obviously lied about inspecting our truck. They did nothing for an hour, and changed us $85. Although they refunded that fee, their incompetence (or dishonesty) cost us dearly. If they had told us about the damage on the truck, we could have negotiated with the dealer for a lower price... or not bought the truck at all, since it had such serious issues. Schmit left bolts loose on the fuel pump of a 2014 when they did a timing chain repair while under warranty. But less than a 1000 miles later, the pump was hanging by one of the loose bolts, with the other one gone, leaking oil, smoking, and a broken flange on the pump, and now out of warranty. Spoke with the GM and was left with litigation as the only resolution. Dealer to the north in Random Lake (EVS) was able to cover the repairs and get Ford to cover the parts. EVS gets a new customer while Schmit gets yet another bad review. read more

I had my vehicle serviced here about a year ago. They replaced the mass air sensor (had to remove the intake tube) and ever since then the wife said the vehicle would buck and jerk randomly. I dismissed her and thought she was just her imagination. Fast forward to yesterday, the wife was driving the vehicle and heard a pop and the vehicle became undrivable. We had it towed back to the dealership and they found the intake tube came off and wanted to charge almost $200. In reality, I'm pretty confident the tube was never properly fastened when the original repair was done which caused the bucking and jerking my wife reported. I will not be bringing my vehicles back for service at this dealership or consider them for new vehicle purchases. I will also be discouraging my friends and family from purchasing or servicing their vehicles here. If my vehicle needs repairs I accept it and am happy to pay. It's part of vehicle ownership. However, if I pay to have a repair done and your technician causes another repair to be needed then own up to it. read more

Saw a vehicle I was interested in. I emailed them twice and called and left a message once. No reply to either. If the car I was interested in was no longer available, I may have been persuaded to look at another one. The car I was interested in was only $7,500, maybe that's why. But.... I went to the competition and ultimately decided to purchase a new car. I wonder how many other opportunities the sales staff has missed. read more

When all was lost the finance manager and the sales rep did everything above and beyond to help me buy out my car I leased a while back. Things weren't working well, but they never stopped looking, working, and doing their best to help me get the best deal and to help me keep the car I love to drive. They get 1 star because you can not give 0. Bought a 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid from Schmit Bros. Upon getting it home we noticed the fog light lens was broken and we let them know right away. A week later the brakes were scraping. We took it in and were told they would fix it and give us a rental for free. They then call us back and are trying to charge us for the rental and $300 for labor. Brian who we bought it from, will not return calls. And we are not going to pay for repairs that should have been taken care of before it left the lot. THIS CAR WAS NEVER INSPECTED. Steer clear of Scmit Bros. and buy from a reputable dealer. We will be taking this problem straight to Ford Motor Company, the BBB, and Contact 6 if needed. (12/10/12) After a week and a half of haggling, they finally decided to do the right thing, and fix the Escape, and give us the rental, at no cost. However I would never recommend this dealership and will never do business there again. read more

My car had a creaking sound. At first they didn't know what it was. Finally they found it. I was told it was my strut bearing and mount. Had it replaced. Yet it still made the noise. They wanted to charge me $250 more to "fix" the same problem. Plus one of my back tires had a metal piece in it. They couldn't be saved. $200 later I had 2 new back tires. Then the service advisor told me I had an unpaid balance with them. What an idiot! I paid cash for those tires! Stay away from that place! They're scam artists! read more

Alas, again, despite numerous attempts to convince this evil cauldron of liars and cheats to leave me alone, they continue to send me sales messages hoping that I am as daft as their employees. This time it is "Seran Fawcett," undoubtedly a fake name for their fake commitment to customer service. I have given them numerous negative reviews, sent them e-mails, called them, and send written mail demanding they stop calling me, e-mailing me, or sending me mail demanding that I do business with them. Nearly every month they ignore my demands and continue to expect that simply by making a menace of themselves they will somehow change my opinion of them. This is harassment. I've been going here for routine maitnence forever and had little issues until one day... took my car in to get my alignment done/tires rotated, the next day my front drivers side wheel fell off. I do most of the work to my car so anytime I take off my rims I torque them to the proper spec (100 ft lbs) so obviously it was not my doing. After confronting the shop about it they said it was "driver error" and said it was possibly my fault which baffled me and after trying to contact management about it never got a reply and left me with about 2k in repairs for my axels and suspension, also left me with a f***** up rim mind you. Ever since I try and avoid the place and every time I've gone back the customer service is terrible, I understand the need to work on appointment orders before walk ins but I when you're backed up with "changing tires. And oils changes" your company is a joke it takes no more than an hour to dismount remount and balance a set of rims and takes 30-1hour MAX to do an oil change. I bought a used car, and the dealer did not have the spare key, plates, or manual. That was fine, they said they would have them for me in two weeks. They specifically said they would have the plates mailed to the dealer, as I was in the process of moving and did not have a new address yet. I made an appointment to come back in two weeks. When I came back two weeks later, they did not have the key ready. They said it would take twenty minutes, took my key, and showed me to the waiting room. I waited. Meanwhile, when I get out my laptop to try to get some work done, I discover their wifi does not work. So I waited unable to get any of my work done. After about half an hour, the dealer came back and said it will take another 40 minutes. So I wait some more. Finally after waiting for over an hour and a half, I went to talk to them to find out what the hold up was. I asked for my key back, and they wouldn't give it to me! I had to start crying to get them to give me my key back. It was either that or I would have had to call the police so they would let me leave! And they didn't even have the license plates or the manual like they had said they would! I wasted a trip down there, a five hour drive, and a day of work, all so they could sit around chatting while I sat waiting in the waiting room. Their lack of respect for me was shocking. (This was all after their "detailing" before I bought the car included leaving garbage from someone's McDonald's meal under the passenger seat and a bunch of crumbs under the back seat.) read more

Schmit Bros gets a 0- They are absolutely horrible. I too purchased my car from Brian Cesario back in July of 2013. I purchased a 2006 Chevy Equinox. Later part of July I started experiencing problems. Its now 2014 and my car has been in the shop 3x times. I called and spoke to Josh (who at the time was a service manager) He never fixed the problem. I got my car out the shop not even a week ago and guess what I had to get it towed again last night... They have provided me with a rental but I will never refer anyone to Schmit Bros. They are not good at all and as far as Brian Cesario.... I agree- he never answers his phone. read more

we took our 2010 ford fusion in for oil change because we purchased this vehicle from Schmit Bros Ford new and have taken the vehicle to no other dealer. Part of their service is to do a 21point inspection when doing the scheduled oil change including testing the battery. Their test of the battery showed no issues. Within 12 hours of having the car inspected, I was stranded with a dead battery. We called the service manager who said he would "look into it." Obviously, the battery was not tested. We questioned whether anything else was inspected. We will not be going back to this dealership and will not recommend any one else doing so either! As a footnote: the service manager stated that they print out a battery reading slip and this should be given to the customer. We have never received such a slip and told him so. Dishonest, poor customer service, and they do not care about the customer! read more

I had a similar experience as the Rev. I bought a 2006 Ford Taurus on Nov.12, 2013 which I drove to work directly from the dealership. When I got out of work it wouldn't start, so my son jumped it for me. The salesman, who did take my calls, told me to bring it in. Picked the vehicle up Fri. 11-14 after being told they could find no problems. That Saturday I noticed slippage, which I at first ignored since it was a rainy day, and there had been no defects noted on the condition report. I mean, I thought the way to go to buying a used vehicle would be a dealership who would back their product, especially since they had sold AND serviced this vehicle for the previous owner. By Tues. 11-19 the "check transmission" warning light is coming on. I brought it back on Nov.22. The service mgr took it for a drive, and states he couldn't duplicate the problem nor find any codes after hooking it up to "the machine". Well, when I had signed the papers for the vehicle it was highly suggested that I buy a powertrain warranty, and now I see the salesman and service mgr. huddling together talking before he comes out to tell me this. Are my suspicions up or what? He says that IF it happens again, to come back to the lot and leave it running so he can see the message for himself. Within a block the warning light came on again-I took it to the garage who serviced my previous vehicle, who hooked it up and wrote the code listed on a piece of paper. Then I went back to Schmit Bros. The service mgr came out, saw the "check transmission" light, suggested I leave it there over the weekend since their transmission guy was gone deer hunting, and gave me a loaner. Late Monday 11-25, the service mgr calls to tell me I need a new transmission at a cost of $1800. I was sick over this, having just had a car accident that totaled my previous car and was also dealing with the insurance co., trying to work full-time, and trying to plan for Thanksgiving/Christmas. I called the next day and talked to the Sales mgr., who accepted my offer of $900 for a refurbished transmission with a 65,000 mi. warranty. To make a longer story short, I was called Dec. 6, 2013 that my car was ready. By this time, I had bought a car almost 1 month ago, and had driven it for less than a week. After researching on-line, talking to MANY people, including my banker to see about redoing my loan, I decided to talk to Jim Schmit directly. In the end I did not feel I should pay any extra for repairing this car for a defect that (to me) obviously should have been picked up on upon inspection, properly noted or fixed, not been lied to nor given the run around. The vehicle was obviously NOT in very good condition and therefore did not qualify for that carfax affixed price. In short, I had already paid for this refurbished transmission in my mind. He agreed and said he would take care of the issue for me. I suggested he look at his YELP site to see that other people had had similar issues with the service dept. in case he didn't know what people in his employ were doing. In the end I drove away having incurred no other expenses, but with a VERY bad taste in my mouth, and alot of unnecessary angst, emotional and mental pain. I will never go there again, and will dissuade anyone I know looking for a car from going here. read more
