I had lunch here and this place is great! I had the the Slovak Pork Schnitzel Sandwich ($11) which was a huge pork schnitzel, a few slices of ham, a sunny side up egg, on a kaiser bun with tomatoes, lettuce and a pickle slice. It usually comes with mayonnaise, but I asked them to hold the mayo (and they did!). The schnitzel was huge! Now I am a big eater, but I only finished half and took the other half to go. The pork was tender, and lean for pork. There were no fatty or gristly pieces (thank goodness). The schnitzel wasn't too greasy or oily either. The pickle slice was super crunchy and had a nice potent pickle flavour. I really enjoyed the sandwich. I came before the lunch rush (a bit before 11:30am on a weekday) and my food came out really quickly (I was the only customer in the restaurant), around noon, more people came in. Service was incredibly nice and friendly. I was offered water while I perused the menu and it was topped off throughout my meal. The restaurant is in a converted house in an industrial part of town. They have their own private parking lot (parking is free). I'm looking forward to bringing my husband here (they close at 4pm on weekdays, but are open for dinner on Saturdays). I'm also looking forward to trying other schnitzel sandwiches (their different varieties are named after different countries). The Czech, with smoked ham and potato salad, and the German, with sauteed mushrooms and gravy are next on my list. Their platters also look good! :)

I love this place. Great lunch spot in the shithole that is the East End. Don't judge a book / the food here is just like your Eastern Euro Grandma used to make. I'm not sure who's back there in the kitchen but I am imagining my 80 year old Bubby hobbling around, throwing lard and salt and butter into pans, turning out pure deliciousness. Usually I have the chicken noodle soup but today was ghoulash day ($6 Bowl) - it was good but not great. Broth was a bit thick but it was certainly tasty. The Jaeger schnitzel ($17) is fabulous. Perfectly fried pork and insanely tasty cabbage and spaetzle cooked to perfection. Can't wait to go back!!

I was really craving some schnitzel and hadn't heard of any good places in Ottawa. Then I found the Schnitzel Works website online, I checked out the menu and decided to give it a try. The location is a store in the middle of an industrial area. Don't let the location deter you though! While the restaurant is small it delivers big on taste! I ordered the German Jager Schnitzel, (I had the Chicken, instead of the traditional Pork) which comes with sauteed mushrooms and red wine gravy. It is served as a sandwich on a kaiser bun, typically with fries. I tried the schnitzel alone first. The portion of chicken was good and was a nice level of thinness. It was fried perfectly, lightly crisped a nice golden brown, while maintaining the tenderness of the chicken. The mushrooms were sauteed nicely and the red wine gravy was a savory addition that added a nice richness to the chicken. When I ate the schnitzel together with the lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and kaiser bun, I felt the lettuce took too much away from the chicken and removed it. Now the sandwich was perfect, the kaiser bun was light and fluffy. The flavours of the schnitzel blended deliciously with the tomato and mayo. I could probably eat another one right now!! haha! The woman who took my order was nice and she was quick. The waitress who was serving the tables near me seemed to know everyone by their name, so I am guessing that there are quite a few regulars who frequent the restaurant. I am happy to have found a great schnitzel place in Ottawa and will definitely be visiting again!

I do frequent this location from time to time and the building does need some maintenance and a good deep clean. This location is probably the second busiest location that I have ventured into, aside from Bank street. The interior is starting to show some wear and tear. The last time that I was here, which was early December of this year, the whole entrance, leading up the cash was a puddle. They had a fan next to the cash/display case to try and air out the restaurant. There was dried splatter on most of the art on the wall. Bathrooms were lacking hand soap and not clean. The restaurant did not feel clean. Service was friendly, ,bagel was fine. They have added some new items to the menu, like tater tots, which were really hard, burnt and just not good. They also reduced the size of the pickles that they serve with the bagels to a sliver. Its quiet humorous. It used to be a quarter of a pickle (Take a look at my past photos that I uploaded). If you are in the area, and craving a bagel, they do make some of the best in the city, but best to grab them and bring them home.

Nice, faint crunch on the exterior, soft interior with still some bite to make it a delicious bagel. We enjoyed the classic kettlemen bagel sandwich which had smooth cream cheese, salty capers and rich and fatty smoked salmon. Everything worked really well with the fresh bagel. 5/5. We also tried the oven roasted chicken bagel sandwich. The chicken was okay, it works as a sandwich but not my favorite. 4/5 but the bagel carries this. Price is not bad for lunch meal.

This sandwich is literally the reason I downloaded this app…read more I've just spent the whole winter in Quebec and am now hitchhiking across Canada and decided to stay in Ottawa a few days. I booked 4 nights at the Saintlo jail hostel and when I came downstairs after a rejuvenating nap I saw that they had a list of recommendations sitting amongst a pile of other plastic sheets. Dirienzo's - the best ITALIAN SANDWICH in the city. I'm not really an Italian sandwich sort of person normally, maybe it was contributed by the burgeoning like for cured meats that I was acquiring after eating dried salami as my only source of food for the past week or so -- but who's going to pass up the chance to try the BEST of anything? I got there after taking 2 buses and was starting to become a bit concerned. I had $40 in my account and was hitchhiking across the country -- after all it was labelled the BEST in the city and that would normally come with a hefty price tag. When I first opened the door I instantly got greeted by the guy behind the counter, which made me feel welcomed and at ease. I looked up to view the selection of sandwiches that they had on offer and potentially the cheaper ones. I was surprised to see the sign that said $10 for ANY SANDWICH!! #booyah I was finding it hard to decide on which of the sandwiches to get since they all looked so appetising, but decided on number 16. The sandwich was massive for the price that it was. The bread was a perfect mix between durable so that it wouldn't fall apart in your hands, but soft enough that it was enjoyable, with the amount of bread contemplating he rest of the fillings just the right amount. I was pretty overwhelmed to be honest with how good it was. All of the ingredients including the lettuce (which I've found is usually the first thing places will skimp out on) were extremely fresh. I put in my coworker groupchat: "Anyone coming over across Canada after the season has to make a stop in Ottawa if they aren't already just to try one of these." Accompanied by a photo of my eyes watering with glee. My Nonna is always telling me how I need to learn Italian to be more connected to our culture and I've always just kindof brushed it off since I haven't needed to use it and we don't speak it much at home, but this has made me so proud to be Italian. As I continued to eat the sandwich sitting on a bench looking towards the city and the people playing basketball in the park, I found myself contemplating staying in Canada and raising my kids here in Ottawa so that they get to experience it themselves on a warm summer afternoon after picking them up from school. The Short Version: Restaurant inside the Holiday Inn Ottawa…read moreEast. I feel it is what you would expect of a restaurant inside a mid-range hotel. I found the food ok. The Long Version: I love trying new restaurants. I also love scoring deals, lol. I have this app called Too Good to Go, where you can buy "surprise bags" from stores and it's food they have leftover at the end of the day. You can't choose what you get though and there's a designated time window when you have to pick it up. I saw Myra's on the app and I was already in the area doing other things and the pickup time worked out, so I figured why not give it a try. I got their lunch surprise bag for $7.99. Pick up was easy. After lunch they close for a few hours before dinner so pick up time was right after their lunch service closed. There was a staff member mopping the floor and when I told her I was there for my Too Good to Go order she went to get it. She was courteous and efficient. I got 3 small pieces of breaded chicken fillets, pilaf rice, peas and carrots and a small salad. It was all packaged in a cardboard takeout box. To me the chicken tasted like frozen stuff you get at Costco Business Centre or food suppliers like Sysco. I felt the meat tasted processed, like the chicken breasts that are pumped with salt water before being frozen. The rice was soft and fluffy but on the salty side for my liking. Peas and carrots were ok. The salad was fresh, no wilted leaves. The food tasted like it was made that day and wasn't stale or spoiled, so I'm glad they are using the Too Good to Go app as intended and not to offload garbage like I've heard some restaurants do. Not a bad deal for $8. Was I wowed by the food? No. But was it perfectly acceptable? Yes. A-OK by me. Free parking in the hotel parking lot. Review #19 (2025)
