Everyone needs breaded pounded flat fried pork loin goodness in their lives! Let me preface they also have chicken. So pork or chicken are your choices. We were beyond happy to find Schnitzel Works! It is one on my fave fried food that is so enjoyable. If you have a proper schnitzel it is not greasy at all. It is light, crispy and not insanely heavy. SW is all that then some! The piece of pork ~German style I had was gargantuan. Crispy, nice breading not too salty and I had the gravy with mushrooms to dip it in. Wow. It was awesome! Came here during October 21-Covid times and it was take out only which is totally fine! A great east end Ottawa gem that I will definitely love to return back to try more of the country different styles. Giddy up! read more

I came for lunch on Saturday and it was pretty busy! They close around 4pm so it's definitely more of a lunch spot although the food is pretty heavy. The restaurant seems small and family owned. The vibe is very casual. I had the Jager Schnitzel Plate. The schnitzel and mushroom gravy on top was very yummy. However the "pasta" and cabbage underneath was pretty underwhelming for me. Also, the servers kept dropping stuff.. a few plates and food fell several times during our meal, but luckily not our food! Just thought it was a little distracting and very clumsy. read more

I had lunch here and this place is great! I had the the Slovak Pork Schnitzel Sandwich ($11) which was a huge pork schnitzel, a few slices of ham, a sunny side up egg, on a kaiser bun with tomatoes, lettuce and a pickle slice. It usually comes with mayonnaise, but I asked them to hold the mayo (and they did!). The schnitzel was huge! Now I am a big eater, but I only finished half and took the other half to go. The pork was tender, and lean for pork. There were no fatty or gristly pieces (thank goodness). The schnitzel wasn't too greasy or oily either. The pickle slice was super crunchy and had a nice potent pickle flavour. I really enjoyed the sandwich. I came before the lunch rush (a bit before 11:30am on a weekday) and my food came out really quickly (I was the only customer in the restaurant), around noon, more people came in. Service was incredibly nice and friendly. I was offered water while I perused the menu and it was topped off throughout my meal. The restaurant is in a converted house in an industrial part of town. They have their own private parking lot (parking is free). I'm looking forward to bringing my husband here (they close at 4pm on weekdays, but are open for dinner on Saturdays). I'm also looking forward to trying other schnitzel sandwiches (their different varieties are named after different countries). I went there yesterday for the first time. And I SHALL return. I had the Austrian Schnitzel with a side of Speck Kraut. The meat was perfectly cooked, moist and tender - and HUGE! The sauerkraut was fantastic. Delicious is an understatement. As for the service, impeccable and friendly. The location is a bit out of the way, but as long as our superiors in government allow me to drive a car, you'll find me going there whenever I can. Don't change anything! read more

All I'll say is... The waitress that was working (with the long teal nails) wasn't that pleasant. She took my team's order, brought our food.... and that was it. If she had checked back just once, she would've known my glass actually had dirt at the bottom of it.... like real dirt. But she disappeared for the duration of our meal and appeared to collect dirty dishes. We went to pay our bill individually (it was 4 of us) and I think that pissed her off - like really? The first two of my coworkers paid and left no tip for her. When she got to me she asked, "was the service okay, because no one is tipping. " I explained that my glass was dirty and all she said was okay, as if that's the norm and it's okay - really? No worries, I cashed out - NO TIP. I love this place. Great lunch spot in the shithole that is the East End. Don't judge a book / the food here is just like your Eastern Euro Grandma used to make. I'm not sure who's back there in the kitchen but I am imagining my 80 year old Bubby hobbling around, throwing lard and salt and butter into pans, turning out pure deliciousness. Usually I have the chicken noodle soup but today was ghoulash day ($6 Bowl) - it was good but not great. Broth was a bit thick but it was certainly tasty. The Jaeger schnitzel ($17) is fabulous. Amazing people that work/own the restaurant! They make you feel like family, and the food is absolutely fantastic!

This place is in sort of an industrial park type of area and they have what I would call weird hours, so it's been a challenge to coordinate getting over here, even though they've been on our list to try for quite a while. (I know you want to know this, so I'll tell you - they open at 9 for schnitzel breakfast, and close at 4 which gives people just the right amount of time to get take out for dinner. It works for this restaurant in this location.) You can get pork or chicken schnitzel. They have 'World' theme, with schnitzel styles for a variety of countries. Everything we tried was great. We could have split a meal and a salad and have had more than enough to eat. We didn't, and we were both too full to finish everything. Décor is pretty straightforward, service was great. Would I return: Yes Would I recommend: If the person like schnitzel, yes, definately. Not much on the menu beyond that, so use your judgement. :-) read more

The food is pretty good, but why i'm giving it 2 stars is because they list their hours as 10am-4pm, but when you call at 3h15 they are closing the kitchen so they can clean up. How are people supposed to order food for supper when they close in the middle of the afternoon, and they don't even stay open for the hours they post. They want to leave at 4, that's their choice to lose a lot of supper business, but either change their hours for customers, or stay open. And the lady was not very friendly about it when i suggested it would help the customer to change the hours for when they stop serving, and she got all defensive. The food itself is pretty good. What they call Spek Kraut, is really sauerkraut, but it needs more seasoning. The schnitzels themself are quite larte, probably even big enough tor two. The spaetzle is pretty good too, but again could use a bit of seasoning. I would love to order from them more often because there are not many traditional German restaurants around, but they really should change their hours so that they can get the supper crowd. When it's closed or closing early, does not give me faith to try them again :( read more

Awesome lunch here, the schnitzel is huge! It is about as large as your face. The gravy and mushrooms were super tasty and I actually ended up ditching the bun and enjoyed it on its own. If you love a good home made potato salad with a good ratio of dill pickles look no further. It's probably one of the best potato salads I've ever had! Portions are huge so come hungry! This is one of my favourite little local places, and I love that it serves unique foods. If you love schnitzel or warm sandwiches, this is a must try! I've only tried the schnitzel sandwiches and nothing else on the menu. The international themed sandwiches are fun and there is a wide variety of flavours to try. I've had Italian, which is basically a chicken/pork parmesean on a bun, and Polish which was absolutely delicious if you love a bit of a sour taste. My only complaint would be hours (unless you work in the area, you can only visit on Saturdays) and parking is quite limited. Also, I once took a day off work and decided to go for lunch, only to be turned away because the whole place was booked. I was quite disappointed as it's a real treat. It's located in the industrial area of Cyrville, just before Star Top if you are going south. It can be a little hard to notice, it's a brown house-looking building. I think they may have added a bigger road sign recently. read more

Echoing other comments, I had driven past this location many times before finally finding the right time to pop in for a lunch. I suppose it's driven for a more lunch crowd; the location itself is quite small, so if you are coming with a group, call ahead and they will put aside a table for you. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety in the types of schnitzel they offered through the 'World of Schnitzels'. I stuck to a traditional order, with a side of delicious spaetzle noodles. The portion was massive - I ate about half and took the rest home! This is a place that proudly dishes up comfort food. I was really craving some schnitzel and hadn't heard of any good places in Ottawa. Then I found the Schnitzel Works website online, I checked out the menu and decided to give it a try. The location is a store in the middle of an industrial area. Don't let the location deter you though! While the restaurant is small it delivers big on taste! I ordered the German Jager Schnitzel, (I had the Chicken, instead of the traditional Pork) which comes with sauteed mushrooms and red wine gravy. It is served as a sandwich on a kaiser bun, typically with fries. I tried the schnitzel alone first. The portion of chicken was good and was a nice level of thinness. It was fried perfectly, lightly crisped a nice golden brown, while maintaining the tenderness of the chicken. The mushrooms were sauteed nicely and the red wine gravy was a savory addition that added a nice richness to the chicken. When I ate the schnitzel together with the lettuce, tomato, mayonnaise and kaiser bun, I felt the lettuce took too much away from the chicken and removed it. Now the sandwich was perfect, the kaiser bun was light and fluffy. The flavours of the schnitzel blended deliciously with the tomato and mayo. I could probably eat another one right now!! haha! The woman who took my order was nice and she was quick. The waitress who was serving the tables near me seemed to know everyone by their name, so I am guessing that there are quite a few regulars who frequent the restaurant. I am happy to have found a great schnitzel place in Ottawa and will definitely be visiting again! read more

I had slowed down my frequency of visits to SchnitzelWorks because the very large portions of schnitzel, mushroom gravy, spätzle and red cabbage were having negative impact on my waistline. However, the SchnitzelWorks staff are very accommodating and now my Jäger Schnitzel can be ordered by halves (without gravy): one to enjoy in the restaurant and the other to savour at home. Each meal is then of reasonable size and has no negative impact on one's weight; the flavour is invariably first rate! In fact, it's right up there with the schnitzel served in Burgbernheim, Bavaria, that I had the opportunity to enjoy in the summer of 2015. We shall certainly be returning to this great little place.
