I had a severe fall that left me with a torn rotator cuff and nerve damage to my shoulder which went down to my hands & fingers. I went to two Orthopedic surgeons who both said I needed rotator cuff surgery. A few people (two in the medical field) told me to have Dr. Schofield do my surgery, so I went to him expecting to make a surgical date. He looked at my MRI, did some manual tests on my shoulder movements which were very limited and said that I don't need rotator cuff surgery and that I have a frozen shoulder and to increase my PT. I was shocked and thrilled that I sought a third opinion. My shoulder is getting better with increased intense PT. Sadly, the nerve damage in my shoulder which is affecting the use of my dominant hand might need surgery and Dr. Schofield is helping me find the right surgeon for this unusual surgery as there's no one in Sarasota that does it. Dr. Schofield is kind, soft spoken, explains things well and listens to my questions and concerns. His staff are all very nice, and the only negative is that you can't leave a voice message. This is going to be a long story, but I hope this could help someone. My ankle was broken with a ligament issue, and I was referred to see a specialist. The main office couldn't figure out the referral form from my primary doctor for 3 days, while telling me to call them to send the right paperwork, when I didn't even know what that was. After I told them I'd find another surgeon, they magically sorted it out. (Btw, this doc doesn't know how to use any modern tech. I was at 1st appt for over 4hrs). I got my surgery scheduled with Dr. Bright very soon. I had a plate and screws inserted into my ankle, which took about 2 hours. My main issue with care was that I was not given any pain medication but told to take Tylenol, although I have no history/issue with it. I had to call the next day and plead for medication while crying in pain. Also, I kept falling during my rehab, which my PT reported to the surgeon. His note should've raised a red flag, but my surgeon or office never called. When I went to see him, he briefly looked at my X-ray and my ankle and recommended removal surgery. I ended up getting surgery from a different doctor, and he said that my ligament was torn, and this should've been easily seen from an X-ray when I was injured at the beginning, and this should've been fixed during my first surgery. Why should you have a surgeon who barely listens to you, reads your charts or notes before coming into your room, or checks your updates from PT? I'm still suffering 2 years later after 2 surgeries; this may be permanent. Do not get close there. read more

Although Dr. Hand was recommended to me by my dermatologist, I was unable to make an appointment. I had to call three times (10 rings the first two times) before someone FINALLY answered the phone. I got an incredibly rude receptionist who simply kept repeating that since I wasn't a current patient the office needed my records & insisted I bring them myself. At that point, she hung up on my. A short while ago I had an appointment to visit Dr. Schofield to discuss the annoying and painful issue of "trigger finger" in both hands. He spent about 5-10 minutes telling my wife and I that he did not recommend needle shots to remove the pain as did another local MD. I thought the visit was a waste of time. If I reacted in a similar manner to the university students I taught for 50 years, I would have lost my job within a short time afterwards. read more

I received a discharge letter from the office of Doctor Schofield, sent via certified mail, obliging me to go to the post office and spend time on this irrelevant matter. my discharge came after I challenged the doctor about getting me an XRay since him or his office were not able to provide me with the cost associated with it. when I asked him if we did the xray- would it help me in anyway with my issue and would he be able to do anything with the result- his answer was "NO" that no treatment will be offered no matter the result- so I refused to do the Xray without knowing my out of pocket expense. and because I didn't agree with him and didn't agree to do the Xray, he and his office discharged me. I had previously seen doctor schofield and was charged for a follow up by his PA for almost 400$, which I disputed because that appointment was worthless and lasted 10 minutes of which she was asking me about how my PT was going on my shoulders.So, I have to say this- next time you would like to discharge someone, have the decency to call them and say it to their face instead of wasting their time with the post office. What can I say, my wife had gone in to see one of the doctors at this orthopedic practice after a very positive visit once before. This time the doctor she saw was not very helpful in a procedure that they advertised on line. Instead my wife had to listen to a doctor venting about how insurance and Medicare have a set price and it wasn't worth his practices time. No doctor we don't have Medicare advantage plan nor are we destitute. My wife was looking for symptom relief without having to take any kind of medication and you just blew her off like an auto mechanic who only wants to do the gravy work that makes the most money! I was looking to continue my wrist treatment there which would've include surgery to remove a cyst, but since I had gone someplace else first I wasn't even able to make an appointment; I was strung along for a month while the doctor allegedly was going to review my one-sided, one page record from the other doctor only to finally be told that "the doctor's priorities are with his current patients and 'second opinions' get put on the bottom of the pile and he'll get to it when he gets to it." I had already been told in May that new patients were scheduling for August & then it was September so by the time they would "get around to it" it'll be December. After my last conversation with them, I was left feeling like i didn't even matter so I told them I'm no longer interested in making an appointment & they can remove my one page record from the doctor's office and destroy it. So, if you've already been seen elsewhere don't waste your time trying to get an appointment there unless you have months to wait because you won't matter to them! read more
