My only thing is that it claims to be a part hostel but there are literal families with kids here.....super uncomfy......and then the evening events arent that fun. I showed up for the acrobatic show, where it says they get you a deal on $90 tickets for only $20 and then you hage to buy 2 items (so you pay like $40 or $50 total, but I found out you can just buy $20 tickets to the show and not be forced to buy other food items. Just felt kind of scammed. Otherwise, I had a great time, loved that storing luggage was free on checkout day, and I made some great friends!

There's a hostel there as well. Walking through the small museum to the back, you may see seals swimming around looking for food. On a stormy day, the waves are extra large splashing against the rocks. An absolutely beautiful scenery. There's a small free parking lot, and if it's full, you can park on the side of the road.

I reported my Autism spectrum sensory needs. It's the ADA Kitchen. The Employee retaliated by stomping emotionally, banging metal pots & pans ...plus screechy high-pitched humming. It was very scary. Management appears to promote Employee misconduct with excuses (a "misunderstanding" "language barrier") Spare me. The staff harassment is the same in any language. A tourist mecca needs staff who can communicate well, not mock the customers. One Employee intentionally rammed a mop-bucket into my feet harshly (repeatedly) and laughed in my face, then feigned confusion. Duh. I have serious respiratory disabilities - if management posts cleaning schedules and follows them - they can prevent staff aggression. I asked for a copy of the ADA Reasonable Accommodations Disability Policy many days ago. HI still did not provide it. It appears to be poor Management.

A few small complaints - the bathroom sink required holding the lever down (annoying - had to turn on the shower to wash my face), and no USB port or power outlet near each bed like some other hostels, although they do have a power outlet in the room, and wifi. While you're in the area, check out Fitzgerald Marine Reserve during low tide to see the sea critters, and walk the Devil's Slide Trail. If you're new to hostels, google "tips for staying in a hostel". It's not a hotel.

I was going to chalk my experience up to just a grumpy old lady but after chatting with another…read moregroup who went in after us I'm going to change that to grumpy old racist lady I proposed to my girlfriend down the street from here and we came here to take some pictures with the lighthouse, upon passing the gate we were almost immediately approached by this grumpy old lady. Huffing and puffing yelling at us that this is a private property. I (VERY NICELY) told her that we were under the impression that there was an easement to the beach (which is true), she then goes to say that we didn't sign the digital waiver at the door, ok fair enough, I immediately tell her that we will go right away back up to the gate and sign the waiver. She then proceeds to yell at us about how we are not allowed to do professional photoshoots, okay lady I get that maybe I do look like a model (especially compared to her) but some friends with a camera isn't a professional photoshoot. I once again, nicely explain to her that I just proposed and we're just trying to get a few pics of the location and we will go sign the waiver right away. She proceeds once again to repeat herself about the waivers which I don't understand because I already said we would go sign it right away and her talking is actually what is preventing from us from going to sign the waivers. She then ironically says "it's unfortunate that this is what you will remember from your engagement day" like what?! LADY if you know you're ruining our day why are you doing this? but fear not it did not ruin our day because I will not let some old hag ruin my day so I once again tell her we will go sign the waivers, she then has the balls to tell me that "this is a non-profit, there is a donation box at the door" ok PAUSE I would be MORE than happy to donate $50, even $100 to your location but not after the way you just treated us. We end up walking back up to the gate to sign the waivers and run into another couple making their way down the hill. I jokingly told them to make sure they signed the waiver or they would get yelled at to which they told me they didn't and proceeded down the hill. We ended up running into them at the parking lot again and they told us that they lady gave them no trouble even though they didn't sign the waiver. I jokingly said to them it's probably because of race (we are asian, they were Caucasian) to which they replied that they really may have been the case because they had no trouble at all. It's unfortunate such a beautiful location is run by such an old grumpy lady. I 100% own it that we should have signed the waiver upon entry but if rules exist they should apply to everyone regardless or age/race/gender/etc.. and on top of that once I already told her we would go sign the waivers she could have easily sent us about our way but I can't imagine why she felt the need to continuously lecture and yell at us.

I usually don't stay at hostels. However, the former mansion looked interesting, so I thought I…read morewould try it out. I booked a single twin for one night. It was a small room but worked for me. It was clean and the bed was comfy. I was fortunate in that the temperature that night was 57 degrees and 88 degrees during the day. I was told that in previous days, the temperature during the day reached 107! The room did have a little fan. The shared bathroom and showers were clean. I met a few foreign visitors in the kitchen. One young female was working on her computer in one of the common rooms. Other than seeing 2-3 other guests, I pretty much had the whole place to myself. It was really neat wandering around to look at all the stuff in the place. At 10 pm., everything gets quiet. Even the music from the nearby festival went quiet. I walked about 8 minutes to a Thai restaurant, called Hiso, which had great food. There are homeless people in the vicinity. I felt safe as the walk took me past some really expensive homes. Lots of people were out walking their dogs. Just be aware of your surroundings. I decided to walk across the street from a spot where some homeless person had set up a tent. I also watched out for people on scooters and bicycles. Parking is available within a gated enclosure by the alley and next to the hostel. That greatly gave me some peace of mind. The young man at the front desk was helpful and professional. Two items of note: 1) you need to remove the bedsheets and pillow cases and deposit them into the baskets by the front desk. Not a big deal to do. 2) you do need to climb stairs to the 2nd and 3rd floors. Not a hassle unless you are older and/or have mobility issues. Or if you have heavy luggage to haul up. Overall, it was a good experience. I would definitely come stay here again. I'm glad I tried this hostel out. Oh, when I read up on the building, I found out that it was a funeral home at one time. I didn't get any creepy vibes. I zonked out and had a good night's rest.

I tucked in as quickly as I could because I had to get up at 330am. Would have loved to have cooked in that kitchen, hung out in the common area, and maybe met some people.
