    Delicious BBQ buffet!
    Mike G.

I met up with a motorcycle group for lunch and the monthly meeting. Loved the building! Loves the food, fresh, hot, great taste and selection. Great bbq, several kinds of chicken, including an Orange Chicken (as in Chinese), tender and great flavor. Overall a def return trip will happen soon!

Rode to the School House BBQ with the Throttle Down Motorcycle Ministries RC on Saturday. Beautiful Scenic ride to Scranton,SC . The building reminded me of a Nostalgic Old meeting Hall setting. The buffet offered southern comfort food priced at only $10 all you could eat. Clean, friendly environment, and huge parking lot across the street at the closed gas station for additional parking. All Required CDC Protocols were followed. The Schoolhouse BBQ offered Hot Buffet, Salad & Dessert Bar Style food as well as items on a menu such as wings, sandwiches, croissant sandwiches, ice cream, burgers, dogs and a host of side orders. We opted for the buffet. Everything is home made and very tasty. My husband had the fried chicken which was crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, Creamy macaroni & cheese, collard greens, green beans, and a sliver of cornbread. I, on the other hand had the southern favorites, Spicy pulled Pork,BBQ chicken, Fried Chicken with lots of brown gravy, the okra soup with chunks of tomatoes and sweet corn kernels over white rice, collard greens with neck bones, green beans with ham, corn bread and corn on the cob. Service: 5 Food Taste: 4.5 Food Presentation:4.5 Decor:5 Prices:5 Customer Service:5 Covid-19 protocols: 5+ For desert there was old country peach cobbler,Oreo cookie pudding, chocolate cake, vanilla cake, German chocolate cake, Carrot cake, and Ice cream. Of course I tried the peach cobbler, banana pudding, and the oreo cookie pudding in one bowl. All 3 were delicious. The food was Good well seasoned, well cooked (nothing was sitting so it wasn't dry or burned), no frills, and nostalgic almost like eating at grandma's house after church on Sunday. All staff wore gloves, masked and social distanced. Our seating arrangement was a great distance from other tables and diners. We felt safe which was refreshing considering what's going on all around us. It was a great escape from reality.

For the meats we had brisket, half rack of ribs, and a pulled pork sandwich. Everything was cooked to slow smoked perfection. Each plate came with two sides. We tried them all and rank them as follows: coleslaw, baked potato, green beans, baked beans, baked potato salad. For dessert we had a toffee cookie and the nana puddin. Their banana pudding was the perfect dessert to end the meal. Would definitely return to bring home a full tray of this delicious treat. I personally loved the layout of the venue. You enter and find a large open seating area, off to the right is the queue for ordering and a little trinket store. Behind the main dining room is what was possibly once a wrap around patio that is now enclosed with cute chairs for two table seating. Then behind the main building is a smaller room with a long bench table that was perfect for our larger family size. They also have an outdoor patio area that would be ideal in better weather conditions. The backyard has a pond and it was great to look out for birds and wildlife while dining. They even had binoculars at the tables along the back windows!

The Austrian and I went a little overboard, because apparently restraint has no place at a BBQ joint. We started with a smoked pork chop so enormous it was practically competing with his bubble head, then shared the BO JUNIOR--beef brisket, half a rack of ribs, pulled pork, beef sausage, and a pint of bacon-smoked beans. We also added the baked potato salad and smoked turkey because, well...we were already committed to the cause. Everything was smoky, tender, flavorful, and clearly prepared by someone who actually understands BBQ. And I have a pretty high bar when it comes to food. Then came Barbara's homemade banana pudding. Oh. My. God. Creamy homemade pudding, real bananas, and a beautiful meringue topping. This isn't the boxed pudding and Nilla Wafers I grew up with. This is banana pudding elevated to an art form. Quite honestly, it may be the best banana pudding I've ever tasted. And I have a little history with the pitmaster--I've known him as a supplier of blueberries and honey for my restaurant and as one of my best customers. So I already knew the man had good taste. Now I can officially confirm he knows how to cook. If you're anywhere near Lake City, put Slabs BBQ on your list. Come hungry. Very hungry.

The place is a large wooden building that resembles something that would have been built in the 1870's. There are a few bench's and chairs on the front porch to relax in after eating or if you need to wait for a table. They have a general store with some interesting items as well. Schuler's is a buffet style barbecue and all you can eat. Their pulled pork is their best meat. I wasn't really impressed with their ribs though. Don't get me wrong, the were pretty good but I certainly wasn't blown away. Their fried chicken is good but again not much different from most buffets in South Carolina. Their collards are nice and they do offer hash. If you're thinking corn beef hash, it's not that. It's a BBQ or liver hash and it's definitely an acquired taste. I usually put it over rice if I get it. Hash was highly popular in South Carolina for many years. It can't hurt to try it as Schuler's is actually pretty good. Not my favorite barbecue in the area but it's cool place with great people.

The staff was very friendly, the service was good...I had takeout but the restaurant is a buffet inside. It clearly is a place the locals enjoy and it is an easy stop if you are on the way to the beach. All in all, my favorite was actually the hot dog. The chili was excellent and the slaw had just a touch of sweetness. The BBQ was well prepared, just not my favorite style or taste profile...a bit too much twang. I would recommend Shuler's if you are in the area and look forward to trying other items the next time I return.

We had such an experience recently at McCabe's BBQ in Manning, South Carolina. Driving north on I-95 from Jacksonville, my wife declared, "I want some barbecue for lunch." As she was driving I was tasked with finding a place where we could dine. Using Yelp, I first found a different bbq restaurant. Got great reviews. Served bbq. Yep, met all of the requirements. Yet some fellow Yelpers stated that it was only serving food to go. Nope. We need to sit and eat! Hence we ended up at McCabe's. Thank the heavens. The food heavens. It's a small unassuming place in Manning. I have no idea what else may be in Manning. Look, I didn't even know Manning was a place before today. Trust me. Stop in Manning. The food is served buffet style, but the incredibly friendly staff actually puts the food on the plate for you. We each had the all you can eat dinner. Because why not? There's lots of side choices, I had the "dirty" rice with hash on it. Honestly I can't tell you what's in the hash or how the rice is made, but it was amazing. The collard greens are some of the best I ever had, and the slaw, while a bit sweet for my taste, was still really good. There were also yams, okra, green beans, cabbage and stewed tomatoes. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them. The pulled pork is phenomenal. On the table is Carolina bbq sauce (vinegar based. Not for everyone but i enjoy it). There is also fried chicken. Ok, I thought, I'll try it just to be nice. Holy Cow. Unbelievably good fried chicken! Get it. The drinks are limited to tea (sweet and unsweet), lemonade and water. That's fine though because the food is so good! Overall it was a fantastic experience, a great find and a place I highly recommend. Thank you food gods!

He was SO hospitable, sweet and genuinely welcoming. He gave great recommendations and did not steer us wrong. These days, it's not always easy to come across service like that, which made it even more appreciated. I ordered the Sunset Blush drink and it was delicious. We also got the cornbread and I'm not exaggerating when I say it was the BEST cornbread I've ever had. So soft and flavorful. The brisket sandwich was a little dry (could be because we went during closing) but still had really good flavor. The mac and cheese though... WOW. I am very picky with mac and cheese and most places miss the mark, but this tasted homemade. Easily a 10/10. My husband got the peach bourbon burger and said it was great. After driving 15 hours on March 21, 2026, my husband and I were genuinely excited to try this place and planned to take our food back to the hotel. Unfortunately, the experience started off poorly and never really recovered. First, parking is extremely limited out front, which is frustrating when you're tired and just want a quick pickup. Inside, things only got worse. The front-of-house staff was shockingly unprofessional. The employee helping us clearly didn't understand her job and had to be corrected multiple times by another staff member--something no customer should have to witness. It created confusion, delays, and zero confidence in our order. We paid about $50 for a sampler, which is not cheap, and yet the same employee argued about giving us the sides because she entered the order incorrectly. If another, more competent employee hadn't stepped in, I'm convinced it would have escalated further. Even then, we never received one of the four sides we paid for. To make matters worse, we were never asked if we wanted drinks to go, and we weren't given plates, silverware, or even BBQ sauce--basic essentials for a takeout order. That's just unacceptable. While waiting, we also watched this same employee tell three separate dine-in families to go sit and wait while she stood there rolling silverware. Completely rude and dismissive. If I had been one of those customers, I would have walked out. This is the first impression customers get, and it's a terrible reflection of how the place is run. Between the disorganization, poor communication, and outright unfriendly behavior, the service was a mess. The only reason this isn't a one-star review is because the food itself was actually very good. The burnt ends and ribs were the standout--absolutely delicious. But great BBQ can't fully make up for such a frustrating and poorly managed customer experience.
