Fantastic! Absolutely fantastic! We stopped here on a roadtrip from Charleston to Myrtle beach, and I'm immediately upset that it can't be a regular haunt. My super picky kids loved the chicken fingers, and I got a special Mac and cheese bowl with pulled pork. Tender, flavorful, and their bbq and white sauces are again, fantastic. Unfortunately, I don't have photos due to a dead battery, on the beach most of the day. Ordering at the counter was easy enough and the order was delivered to the table. We had one in the party with a food allergy and ordered the sauces on the side. Orders are delivered to the table. The special request was incorrect as the sauces were on the entree. A replacement was quickly ordered and arrived with no sauces, again quickly remedied. Smoked turkey was very good with a smoky, spicy juiciness. The smoked chicken was also juicy and delicious. Ribs were rated "alright". The dining room and porch were available for seating. Both areas were clean and tidy and about the same comfort level. Inside a couple of degrees cooler and outside there was a breeze. The cornbread is amazing. Tip The menu board has the standard sides but look for the chalkboard "Specials" for the daily offerings. read more

This is a chain BBQ restaurant, but like other outlets that we have visited in the midwest, it is well worth an afternoon or evening of your time. We stopped in for a late lunch, and on a Sunday had the restaurant virtually to ourselves. $32.40 purchased two refillable teas, a pulled pork sandwich with sides of mac 'n cheese and cornbread, and a smoked wings platter (8 mixed) with sides of lima beans and Brunswick stew. We'd skip the mac, but the lima beans and the soupy stew with its peppery profile were very good. The pork came unsauced, and had an excellent flavor profile. We experimented with the sauce on the table, but the meat didn't need it. The wings had a nice, crispy skin to complement the moist meat ... and don't skip the fried cornbread! read more

Nice lil rustic BBQ spot we just discovered here in Pawleys Island! It's full of nostalgia and interesting wall reads LOL and has a nice size patio; bar and indoor dining. We opted to get take out and really enjoyed our meals overall. We both got the smoked wings snd they were yummy. You could tell they marinate them for Flavor and tenderness! You get 8 decent flats n drums mixed dry but it comes with some kind of white Bbq sauce (I wasn't a fan). I had the greens I'll get those again but I'll pass on the mac n cheese. It was fairly bland but the hubby said the black eyed pea stew with okra and tomato was good! They include a big slice of grilled cornbread. I was told by two different locals not to eat here but I was craving bbq, and it was the only place around, so I gave it a try. I should have taken a hint because there were no customers either. Worst bbq and bbq experience I've ever had and I'm not even picky about my bbq. Weird 20-year old chef stared at us from the kitchen with a frown as we ordered from the lady at the cash register. Ribs were lacking of meat but one had none at all. Ribs were ultra salty and almost inedible but I was starving. Someone really screwed that up. I ordered red beans and rice as a side and there was no rice. I asked the waitress and she told me it was at the bottom of the dish. After I dug through the beans and showed her there was no rice she went to the kitchen, only to come back and tell me they were out of rice. My mom ordered a wine and they poured it in a plastic disposable cup. No one apologized or offered me my money back even after i let them know how disappointed i was. This place is a joke and I assume the only customers are unwitting out-of-towners that just wander in. I can overlook most of these problems but the ultra salty ribs should be diagnosed. Someone really screwed that part up. Probably the bitter chef in the kitchen. read more

Had Sunday lunch here with friends. I ordered fried chicken with 2 sides (Mac & cheese and collard greens). The chicken dinner came with 4 pieces of chicken! Way too much for 1 person for 1 meal but was fried and delicious. I also got 4 thighs and another at table received a wing, drumstick, thigh, and a breast. That would have been better for me as I don't really like all dark meat. The sides were good. Their potato salad is also very good. You can get banana pudding or a mudslide for dessert. I've been to Moe's twice, once for a catered fundraiser on-site and once for a quiet weekday lunch. Both times, the food was excellent and the service was outstanding. For the fundraiser they had large amounts of food out in heating trays that they frequently checked on and restocked. Everyone enjoyed the outdoor space with the fun bar. We had heard about the "Thanksgiving Sandwich" on Thursdays so really wanted to try it. We were NOT disappointed, it was delicious. Moe's is a Q chain from Alabama - it's not home grown Carolina Q. If you're a BBQ aficionado (aka a "BBQ snob") who thinks that only the style from wherever you're from is "real BBQ" then skip this one unless you're from 'Bama. We had the pulled pork plate with two sides. This is the Carolinas and BBQ is pulled pork. It was cooked up well. Just enough fat and just enough crispy bits. Smoke ring was solid, smoke flavor was very tame. It came sauced with sweet red, my preference is Eastern NC vinegar but this was good. Not world class Q but plenty fine for Coastal SC. My baked beans and 'tater salad were tasty. The wife's Mac n cheese was a touch dry. The tea needs more tea and sugar, but it was fresh. Again, if you only like one sort of BBQ you'll likely want to pass. But if you like all things slow cooked pork, this is tasty eats. It ain't NC, SC, Memphis, Tx etc style though - this is Alabama style. They seem to really like it down there. YMMV an open mind and adventurous palate will be pleased here. read more

Short version: Moe's makes flavorful, juicy meat, but it's not BBQ if you know BBQ. For a small town, I'm sure you'll be okay with it. Details to follow: I'm being kind with three stars and I HATE to post bad reviews since the restaurant industry is already struggling but I'm doing this as a service to other foodies. We've been coming to Pawleys Island every year or so for the last 10 years and this was the first time my wife and I tried Moe's. The food I got can barely be called bbq. I ordered a rack of ribs for 2, a pound of pulled pork, and two "Moe" orders of sliced smoked turkey. The rack of ribs comes with two sides so I ordered Mac and cheese and collard greens. I'd love to speak on how good (or bad) the sides were but they forgot to add them to my order so who knows. The ribs were juicy and tender but had no smoke flavor to them and no dry rub so it was up to the bbq sauce to add flavor. There was even a smoke ring but I'm guessing after steaming them to death, it lost the smokey flavor. The pork tasted as though it had been braised instead of smoked. There was zero bark and it had a sweet taste that made me think it was sitting in a crock pot. Moe's gives you two options for bbq sauce. Your standard and a white sauce for turkey and chicken. The regular sauce had way too much pepper and little flavor. The white sauce tastes like bland ranch dressing. The one positive was that the smoked turkey was pretty damn good. It was juicy, had a nice smoke ring, and was super tender. Not many options in Pawleys Island so perhaps that's why they have 4+ stars. read more

A- for food. F for service. We placed a larger order and requested a specific time for it to be ready. It was unapologetically not ready at that time. Ok.... Things can get busy. Although, it sure didn't look busy. We had already paid and were standing around waiting. We would've sat at the bar and ordered a beer if someone had had the social skills to let us know it'd be a minute. After waiting 10-15 minutes for our food, even though we were standing in clear view of all restaurant employees, our food was bagged and left behind the bar until we asked for it. We- not an employee- took a minute to check our order. Despite this check, we did not notice that a side of collard greens was missing. My wife called to let them know it was missing, and she was told that it would be ready when she made an extra trip to pick it up. A business deserving of a high rating would have had the collards ready and maybe thrown on an apology and/or a little something for the trouble. A business that appreciates its customers would have had the collards ready. Instead, this is a business that deserves the low service rating I gave above since they did not have the collards ready, would not apologize for the inconvenience they created, and treated my wife (that just made an extra trip) as someone trying to swindle them out of an order of collard greens. WTF? Come on Moe's. Make your service as good as your food. read more

Best on Pawleys island/Murrells Inlet but not what I expect in the South. Yet we come here again and again because if you want barbecue, they are the only choice in town. Moe's is a franchise and the food tastes like it. Yet like Starbucks, you know what you are getting, sides are good, food is quick, staff is friendly. If you are from a barbecue hot spot such as the greater Asheville area, you will be disappointed. However, Asheville is five hours away. If you are jo nesing for BBQ, this is the best place on the Grand Strand, and as for Georgetown, forget about it, Moe's is the place. As for Myrtle Beach? We ate too quickly for pictures but trust me. Everything was awesome. Ribs were perfectly cooked and firm meat but clean bones. Peppery rub was excellent. Turkey, pulled pork also fantastic. Sides: baked beans (little bits of jalapeño? Amazing), collards (perfect with sweet and vinegar bite, bits of sausage), Mac & Cheese (basic but a much better home made version of Kraft), skillet corn (red peppers, sausage, celery, excellent), and GRILLED cornbread. So good. Only two sauces (original peppery/vinegary red sauce and Alabama white sauce), but both good. We've seen it so many times and finally stopped. Can't wait to stop again. read more

The Fried Ribs were a real treat. Haven't even heard of that before and I enjoyed them a lot. I liked that you could get Banana Pudding as a side also. The dry rub wings were mediocre and the banana pudding had some flavor in it I couldn't put my finger on but wasn't to my liking. Checked this place out when we explored Pawley's Island when we were wedding planning, ended up booking them as our reception location! Everyone was so pleasant and accommodating for us, it was the best day ever. Adam, our bartender, was superb and so kind to everyone. Their outdoor area was perfect for our small reception. The food was buffet style, which I was skeptical about for our wedding guests. But, the food was excellent! We had plenty of leftovers to indulge in as well. I was unhappy with my recent visit to Moes BBQ. The pork bbq was not smoked (or very little). It lacked the flavor of good Carolina BBQ. They only had One BBQ Sauce which is unheard of. The sauce was a sweet red sauce, which is generally good for ribs and not pork. Carolina pork bbq has a spicy (not sweet) mustard sauce or a semi-sweet mustard sauce or lastly a vinegar based sauce. These are for pork and can be used on chicken. The sides I got here were uneatable . The mac & cheese was totally dried out and the macaroni was very hard. The broccoli casserole was not mixed right before cooking and had a big globe of cheese at the bottom!!! I was not happy. read more

This place was excellent! Sauce- they have a white sauce that is creamy and smokey. Very unique. They also have a warm red tomatoe-tasting sauce. Very sweet and delish. Ribs- some of the softest, most fall-off-the-bone ribs I've ever had. Wings- Smokey yet crispy. Light buffalo sauce and the slightest touch of spice. Very good. Pulled pork sandwhich- juicy, delicious, and in the words of my wife "pretty close to perfect". Mac and cheese- very light on the cheese but soft and buttery. Not cheese sauce kind of Mac, but still tasty. Jambalaya- super soft rice with very flavorful sausage, pork, and Creole seasoning. Excellent, but maybe ever so slightly overdone. Marinated slaw- unique but probably a pass for me in the future. It was a bit heavy on the vinegar and the texture was too soft. There was no crisp to it. Corbread- soft and crumbly. Would have been better warm and with some butter, but the flavor was on point. Banana pudding and Mississippi mud- both super light and flavorful. Delicious. read more

We ordered BBQ and and 2 sides for a large family gathering. When picking up the food as a take out purchase, we were charged a 20% gratuity. The manager was summoned and he refused to budge. We believe in tipping but there was no service involved. No mention was made of this "gratuity" when the food was ordered. i cannot tell you enough how much i love this place. Was in pawleys island for a week long vacation with friends, we were so impressed with moes we ended up there twice. i got the smoked chicken the first time and never want to eat chicken anywhere else again and the second time i got the shrimp "moe" boy which was delicious also. good choice of sides and the prices were very reasonable for the amount of food you get! and they give you an option to have desert as one of your sides if you want a little something sweet to top off all of the delicious flavors!!! read more

Amazing pulled pork and beans. All the items seem to have a slight pepper taste but just enough and not to much. The Mac and cheese was also homemade and great. The Ugly: Called in my order and asked did they have any full slab dinners and they said "No" we have al carte slabs for $30 so I ordered that plus 2 small sides and a wing platter. I get there early and pay. I look at the menu board and as plain as day it has a "Ribs for 2 combo" that's a full slab plus 2 half pint sides and 2 pieces of cornbread for $35! I bring it to the attention of the cashier and she says that whomever took my order must have forgotten. Well ok I guess! So I asked her could she upgrade my order to the combo for $.50. First she says "Let me see if the math works." I show her the receipt and point out the $30 slab and 2 small sides @2.25 each is .$50 less so I'll pay the difference. She looks at me like I had 3 heads and then says she'd have to cancel the entire order and put it in as a new order because the owners told her to do it that way. Well I talked to a total of 4 employees, including the manager, and no one could wrap their mind around what I was saying! VERY FRUSTRATING! So they gave me 2 pieces of cornbread then I asked about the lager sides once again I get the 1000 yard stare. I just grabbed my food and walked out very pissed. Customer service 1/5 The Bad: ribs were tender but flavorless. No smoke, no spice, no nothing. The regular bbq sauce helped a little but there was no saving this meat. Got mac and cheese and potato salad as sides for my wing dinner both were underwhelming to say the least. More mac than cheese and once again flavorless potato salad. Green beans were Meh. Ribs and sides 1/5 The Good: The wings were actually pretty good. Nice char and spice rub. I wondered why they didn't put this on the ribs! Cornbread was grilled on one side and had jalapenos added.
