If you want to stay at a really unique place stay here. This bed-and-breakfast has everything for the person who's looking for something different. There are so many interesting things in the hallways and in the rooms harkening back to school days gone by. The two staff members running the place were helpful and sweet. We had a comfortable bed and hot water for our showers. The breakfast served was better than most places like this. I saw a LivingSocial deal for School House Inn and bought it on impulse. I've bought quite a few things on impulse in the past, this is by far the best of those purchases. Initially I was a little nervous because neither my friend or myself had ever stayed in a bed and breakfast. On top of that, we're younger than the usual customers so we were worried about how we would be received in that setting. It took all of 30 seconds before we felt right at home. John gave us a tour, answered all of our questions, and was very friendly! We stayed in the Writing Room, which was huge and comfortable. The bed and pillows were like clouds. All of the old trinkets and books were very interesting to look through. Both mornings we had an amazing breakfast, courtesy of Paula. The first morning the dining room was full. We had a table full of the friendliest people I've ever met who were sweet and offered us suggestions of things to do and see. The following morning it was just us and one other couple, also very nice people. I did read these reviews and the one negative review had me slightly concerned so I'd like to address a few things: 1. The owners are very friendly, funny, and sweet. We were not given one single rule, and the only posted rule that I remember seeing was just in regards to not smoking or lighting candles. 2. Breakfast was delicious, both mornings the people at our table raved about it. 3. The bathroom wasn't huge and luxurious. It was a bathroom, it was cute, there was plenty of room to move around in it. 4. The inn is about a mile from everything, yes. If you get lost, it'll still only take you five minutes to get in to town. 5. The parking is a little tricky to back out of for the first time. You may need to spend up to thirty seconds assessing it and executing your escape plan. I suggest getting an early start. (If you can back out at an angle, it's not an issue.) Overall this was a great place to stay! I'm already looking for an excuse to go back and I highly recommend it! read more

My daughter and I stayed here one night after a day in Tombstone. It's super cute but could use a little bit of updating. Location was great and the staff was super helpful and kind. The walls are pretty thin (the person in the next room was streaming a video and I might as well had been watching it with them). This is more of a heads up to be a good neighbor as they did ask is to recognize quiet hours after 8:00/8:30. Overall a great spot!! read more

This place is awesome We arrived Saturday June 22nd around 3:30 ish. We received a warm greeting by Paula and her daughter Veronica. Paula gave a tour of the dinning area and how sitting for breakfast works. Veronica then showed us our room, gave my husband her direct number should we need anything. Let me tell you guys, Paula is the BEST cook in Bisbee! You are in for a treat with her cooking. Today is Monday...we leave tomorrow but not until after breakfast! We are not missing that. The rooms are huge , so fabulously decorated in school house theme . We are in the Reading room. The bed is comfortable, bathrooms clean. We are here to celebrate my uncles 90th birthday . We want to share this place with family that live here but haven't seen it. Paula and Veronica were so gracious to allow us to give family a tour of the School House Inn. My boyfriend and I came here when other out of town plans were suddenly cancelled. We had the time off work and wanted to still get away for a bit of time. I saw a Groupon for this B&B and had spent time in Bisbee many years before. The owners are very personable and know a lot about the history of the buidling. Each room is named something different and we stayed in the Geography room, which had various maps of the world around the walls. The room was comfortable and the bed was perfect. We were able to open up all the windows and let in the fresh air as this place does not have air conditioning. The town itself was a little dead and there isn't much to do in the evening if you don't drink. Unfortunately the rooms do not have any televisions and on a slow night would have been a little bit of a perk, but not a necessity. Breakfast the following morning was amazing! Everything was homemade and fresh and it wasn't sitting out. My plate was made for me after I sat down so it came out hot. We would definitely stay here again but would maybe make our next trip to Bisbee when an event is going on. read more

We came to Bisbee with a group and rented a house near downtown for New Years. The next day, my husband and I decided to find a fun B+B to try out. If you're looking for a relaxing place to crash, I definitely recommend checking out the School House Inn! We stayed in the Library Suite, which has enough room for four people if you're coming in a group. It also has a cool living room / sitting room with a wall of books, some of which are REALLY old and a blast to read. The location is slightly off the main streets in Bisbee, so you avoid the downtown noise while still being close enough to explore the area. Our hosts, John and Paula, were very hospitable, and Paula cooks a mean breakfast. The price is reasonable as well - when you stay at a bed and breakfast, you often expect to pay more than normal, but the prices at the School House are about equal to any other place in Bisbee, and I feel you get a lot more by staying here (unique themed rooms, the chance to stay in an antique building, delicious free breakfast with coffee or tea, etc). Also, the largest bed in the Library room was SUPER comfortable, and I had one of the best sleeps I've had in a while. We had a very relaxing stay. Check it out! read more

We decided to take a day trip to bisbee, we found this on here saw the $20 off thing and said hey why not lets give it a try. We got up there and its at the top of the hill, like 8 minutes from "down town bisbee" it is the cutest little house ever! It is all the old school rooms turned bedrooms. So there is a arithmetic room, principals office, geography room etc. All the rooms are so adorable and match themes for what room they are, and its so clean! One of the owners John gave us a tour off the whole place and he really has the whole hospitality part down pat. He was so friendly and really wanted everyone to feel welcome. This was basically like staying at my great grandmothers house--old recliners, fake floral arrangements, knit blankets, yellowing bathtub, creaky stairs, and no tv in your room. The beds were comfortable, it was clean, and the owner was helpful and nice. The B&B is not as close to "Main Street" as I had hoped but it was a close drive. This is a 'Mom and Pop" Bed and Breakfast. They do all the cooking, cleaning and making up the rooms. So don't plan on getting there early because the front door is locked until 3 PM. Bring cash to pay for anything extra, like the room tax or t-shirt. I had found a Groupon coupon and I knew my wife would love to take another trip to Bisbee. The weather was perfect but cold at night. There is a space heater in the closet which I should have used that evening. John is very friendly and Paula is a little reserved, but they both made the experience of staying there enjoyable. The place reminded me of the days as a child. The room had lots of books and old antique rugs. There is no TV's or radios, vending machines or ice machines. If you want to bring a soda or snack back to the room, you can stop off at the Circle K which is a half mile or less down the road, The bathrooms were small but adequate. The shower was fantastic, immediate HOT water. The next morning, breakfast was whatever John and Paula decided to cook. They were serving quiche which was very light, cinnamon sugar on half an English muffin, a small muffin and fruit. The meal also comes with orange juice and coffee. For me, I'm a breakfast person and it just wasn't filling enough, but it sure was healthy. We were glad we stayed there and hope to make another trip to Bisbee and Tubac. read more

OK - this is the place to stay in Bisbee. This BnB is located on a mountain side with absolutely gorgeous views. The rooms were large and comfortable. The bed was a bit squeeky, but that can probably be fixed easily with some frame tightening. The theme is obviously school house and it has some cool antiques and furnishings. The owners were nice and the breakfast was great. The breakfast was actually cooked, versus the trend we have seen in BnB's have been muffins and coffee type. So we were pleasantly surprised. We stayed for one night in the B&B during our impromptu road trip. It was absolutely wonderful! I LOVE old places with that have history, significance, charm and character. This place has all of that plus very accommodating and friendly hosts. It was clean, the beds were comfortable, breakfast was delicious and our time there was very relaxing. Some things to keep in mind if you are considering this place. The building is over 100 years old, so the insulation is minimal at best, which means you can hear people around you. This was not an issue for us because everyone was reasonably quiet. The other thing is we did not have a TV in our room. This was not an issue for us as we enjoyed being unplugged. Lastly, the Wi-Fi was a little spotty at times. All in all, we loved our stay and we are hoping to go back with some friends and stay there again. read more

We usually stay in the historic downtown Bisbee district when we visit, but thought we'd try something new & ghost-less for this weekend trip. Glad we found The School House Inn! Just a few tree-lines miles from downtown, it's a beautiful winding drive through Tombstone Canyon to the old Schoolhouse property. No McMansions or cookie-cutter houses around here! It was hard not to drive too slow, taking in all of the unique/craggy/antique/artistic details & personalities of the homes along the way. The inn is set on a hillside (surprise!) with a pretty view towards the north. We were met by our friendly host who gave us a little history & tour of the property. A beautiful garden & patio promises a lovely warm weather stay later in the year. The school house theme was fun, with lots of antique books, toys, desks, black boards, creaky wooden floors, etc etc. We were lucky to stay in the Geography room amongst a giant antique map, old globe & travel paraphernalia. It wasn't your typical hotel room - no TV or electronics- that's what makes it a unique experience! However, they do offer free WiFi :-) The bed, pillows & blankets were snug & comfy. All of the rooms that we saw were unique & delightful. Being away from the downtown made for a relaxing & quiet night. Breakfast was lovely, generous, homemade & delicious. It was entertaining to visit with other guests - B&B folks are such interesting travelers! We're looking forward to another visit here - hope to stay in the Music Room next time! read more

The School House Inn is a quaint and dated B&B. I walked into the School House and thought I was stuck in 1968. Pros: Affordable and clean B&B Cons: Strange owner, weird rules (lectured everyone on archaic rules...dictatorish), breakfast was subpar, extremely small bathroom, far from town (1 1/2 mile to town), parking lot hard to maneuver car, no ice (don't even ask!), mean stated rules posted everywhere! If you want to stay in a Norman Bates type B&B, this is the place for you. I will not stay here again...I will stick with the places in town. read more

I stayed here solo while on an overnight road trip. My wife rented me a Harley for a couple days as a birthday gift and Bisbee was just The right destination from Phoenix where we live to ride a motorcycle to and from. A brief search on the Internet and I found the schoolhouse in bed and breakfast which seems to have gotten many favorable reviews here on yelp. I decided to give it a try and found them to make a reservation. John the proprietor answered my call and informed me that indeed he had the perfect room for me available as it was their cheapest room, the art room, and because I would be staying in it alone he would give me a slight discount on the price which was nice. The property is located at the upper end of what becomes the main drag in old town Bisby. Certainly walkable but it's downhill and about 1.5 miles to the heart of the town. I checked in just after dark, and John greeted me at the door. He showed me the breakfast area and explained the details before taking me up to the main floor where all of the rooms are located. The building is old. It was a schoolhouse then apartments, then a care home before finally being converted to a BB years ago. It is well worn in to say the least. The hallway walls adorned with old toys, blackboards and endless dusty knock-knacks, which one might find charming and kinda creepy. The rooms are large for a BB. Mine had a small desk, a little settee, a double bed and many little lamps and do dads scattered throughout in the spirit of Art. Including an old oil painting on an easel. Again quaint and creepy. Which is fine with me. I wondered how many people expired in my room while it was a care home? The bathroom was adequate but the toilet was crowded into the wall by the tub and boxed in by the sink. Would be uncomfortable for a tall or really fat person. Plenty of hot water, clean towels and basic toiletries. All around a comfy room. It's slightly noisy when people are going in and out as the doors are thin and have a frosted glass window. It was a school remember. But not overly. Breakfast was served downstairs in the roomy common area cooked up by Paula. there was cereal etc to choose from but the played breakfast was a set menu. It was tasty: baked eggs, fruit salad, half a toasted English muffin with butter and cinnamon and a muffin. I suppose if you wanted you could request regular eggs or whatever the night before if you are a fussy eater. I am not and enjoyed it. Seating was assigned by rooms and as a single I shared a table with a married couple who were preachers. It was fine but they did get to be a little much on the preaching. It was Sunday so I let it slide as they were a nice couple. All around an interesting place to stay. Not a huge fan of the B and B concept I prefer hotels but this was a good experience and I would consider staying there again. Class dismissed! read more

I really wanted to give this place 5 stars. The setting is unique - a schoolhouse that has been turned into a B&B. The place oozes schoolhouse charm and the delightful innkeeper keeps with the theme. Breakfast was tasty and the location was great. We stayed in the Arithmetic room. The room was very spacious and actually had two separate sleeping areas and a sitting room. The problem was the beds. There is always something going on in down town Bisbee so being a 5 minute car ride away is perfect for us.....we got to be a part of the action but got to sleep somewhere peaceful and quiet. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable and the breakfast yummy! The owners are charming and love what they do and it is a pleasure to chat with them. Super charming, friendly and historic is how I will describe School House Inn Bed & Breakfast. We stayed one night for a quiet getaway for our wedding anniversary and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Paula made her famous and delicious breakfast for the guests and it was so tasty, with eggs, fruit, english muffin, a blueberry homemade muffin and a yummy salsa. We stayed in the History room and it was quiet and fun to explore with so many cool antiques. My husband enjoyed reading the newspaper headlines in one of the history books laying around the room. The room had a full size bed and a twin bed, we liked the full bed and it was pretty comfortable and we slept really well on it. The room has 2 large windows that highlight the scenery of the area while you sit in either of the 2 rocker style chairs or on the bed. The bathroom is small but is expected when staying at a non-corporate place like this. One must look past the polar opposite characteristics that this Inn has in comparison to a brand new hotel, but that is why we wanted to visit Bisbee and stay at the Inn. We wanted the hospitality, warmth, friendliness and charming atmosphere that School House gives its guests. Also, the garden sitting area is really chill and cozy. The main balcony is a nice place to sit and watch the clouds pass by. The History room and the Inn have high ceilings on the 2nd floor which makes it feel so comfortable. What a neat place! Amy and I spent last night in the Geography room at the School House Inn, and we had a really fun time (for a discounted price, to boot!). John was really great to us as a host, particularly in getting us set up with glasses and chilling a bottle of champagne (purchased at the fine Plaza Liquors gas station) in the Inn's refrigerator until we were ready to drink it. As you may have gathered, the Inn itself is a converted old schoolhouse and John and Paula have done a great job of preserving its quirky atmosphere while also creating a charming bed and breakfast. Our room was one of the more modestly-priced appointments, and it was very spacious and well-decorated -- I imagine that the other rooms are even nicer. Breakfast (for us: a slice of green chili and cheese frittata, a blueberry muffin, half an English muffin, and an assortment of fruit) was served out on their pretty patio area, which was bustling with birds. All in all, it was a great experience. Having been to a number of B&Bs, though, and being a pretty easy-going person myself, I can say that it's not too difficult to have a really enjoyable experience at a bed and breakfast. So here are some things to consider if you're thinking about staying here: First, unlike most B&Bs I've stayed in, our room did not come equipped with informational materials to help us plan our trip, and John didn't directly offer us any recommendations when we spoke during check-in or in the morning after breakfast. That was totally fine for us, since I am a committed trip planner and we had lots of ideas already. But if you think you might need some help figuring out what to do, you should make sure to make that known to John and Paula. I'm sure they'll be happy to help, but I gathered that shepherding unprepared guests isn't part of their standard operating procedure. Second, the B&B is not air conditioned. Bisbee is typically not a particularly hot place, and so I would imagine that for most of the year this is not a problem at all. However, we are currently going through a bit of a hot spell, and as a result it got a bit warm in our room (particularly during the day, but also somewhat into the night). If we weren't coming in from a swamp-cooled apartment in Tucson, I imagine we would have been pretty uncomfortable, particularly since the overhead fan was broken in our room (don't worry -- John set us up with two floor fans). Third, although I didn't realize that this would be an issue going in, I discovered that I am not the biggest fan of bedrooms with high ceilings. I felt like it made the room less intimate and cozy. Obviously that's not a sleight against the Inn itself or its owners -- it's just my (previously unrealized) preference -- but if you think you would have the same reaction, that might be worth considering. Finally, just a couple of smaller observations about the room. One is that our bed was pretty firm and a little squeaky. I won't say more about how we avoided the problems that come with a squeaky bed, but I will say that those who sleep on their sides might want to see if there is a pillow topper available (I sleep on my back, and was in heaven). Another observation is that there is a red exit sign outside of the doorway to the Geography room, and although the door itself is draped with a white cloth that blocks most of the light, there is a little bit of a glow that still comes through. For people who are super sensitive to light when they sleep, this might be a reason to pick a spot further away from the end of the hallway. This has probably come off as a laundry list of complaints, but I really don't intend for it to be that way. In my view, everything I have said is more of a nitpick than a condemnation: we really did have a great time staying at the Inn. The real remaining question for you as a potential guest is whether there is a better option in Bisbee, and in our research we didn't see anything (at least on Yelp) to suggest that the answer is yes. So I'd say the School House Inn is a great choice for a place to stay, particularly in the non-summer months for people who don't mind firmer beds or high ceilings and who intend to arrive with an idea of what they want to do with their time. Plus, if the other reviewers are any indication, it sounds like I'm the biggest curmudgeon of the lot, which seems like pretty good news to me. read more

I've been wanting to visit Bisbee for a while and when I saw the Groupon for this place, i snapped it up and called not 5 minutes later to book. Schoolhouse Inn was FANTASTIC! We stayed this past Saturday night. We arrived around 5pm, and John showed us around and told how breakfast works in the morning. He then took us upstairs to our room (the Reading Room). All of the rooms are school-themed: reading room, writing, room, Principal's Office... Cute. There were lots of school-ish trinkets all throughout the building. The whole place was very charming and quaint. As another yelper posted, it is a little dated but very clean and very comfortable. There's a nice little patio where breakfast was served that at night is lit with twinkle lights and has a 2 person porch swing. There's also a hammock for 2 in the yard. Our room had a king bed that was suuuper comfortable. There is no AC in the place, but the overhead fan in the bedroom worked really well, and John also mentioned that there were additional fans in the closet if we wanted to draw in air from outside (which this past weekend was definitely cooler out doors than in). There's a neat little park next door that we went down to, sat on the swings, and tried to see who could do more chin ups (Ben won. He could do 2 :)) We took a walk toward town then turned around and took the car Into town for dinner. the Inn is about a mile from the hub in Old Bisbee. Not a difficult walk, as I see one person complained. But we did take the car after our walk :) Had dinner, drove the 4 miles to Safeway and picked up a bottle of $4.99 screw-top wine, went back to the inn and sat on the swing on the lovely patio drinking wine from paper cups :) Breakfast is served from 8-9am and Paula made a simple but delicious breakfast of green chile and cheese quiche, fresh fruit, banana nut muffin, english muffin with cinnamon sugar and... I feel like I'm missing something. Anyway. While eating breakfast, we saw a hummingbird come to a little fountain that shoots straight up and give himself a little shower, for those hard to reach places hehe The bf's favorite part- NO TVs. (actually there is one in the community room, if you must) I highly recommend the Schoolhouse Inn! read more

My sister and I were passing through Bisbee, AZ and decided to find a place to stay the night. We called the School House Inn not really knowing what to expect, but saw a discount on Yelp. What a place! As the name suggests it's an old school house that has been converted into a bed and breakfast with each of the old classrooms now guest rooms. It is quaint, quiet and relaxing. We had the place to ourselves, which was delightful. The rooms are cute and comfortable and very clean. If you're not a bed and breakfast person I would recommend finding a different place as the Schoolhouse is as B&B as they get - in the best of ways. The entire place is very clean and well kept. While we can't usually afford B&Bs (we're on a budget road trip) we were able to make an exception here and are glad we did. Needless to say, it was a great place to stay...did I mention the homemade breakfast in the morning? Every morning Paula cooks up breakfast for the guests, this morning we had scrambled eggs with green chiles, English muffins, banana bread and fruit - really a treat. You can make yourself as scarce as you want or hang out in the communal areas. This is truly a one of a kind little inn, the history behind the place is enough to interest anyone. What a nice bed and breakfast! We had a very nice time during our stay at the School House Inn. I would not recommend this place for people with children, as you can hear EVERYTHING through the walls and in the hallway, and this place was QUIET by 8:30 p.m. - we felt bad creeping in and out at 11:30, like we were waking other guests up. The hosts were very nice and easygoing, and the room was spotless! We stayed in the Arithmetic Suite, which features a private bedroom with two twin beds and a sitting area with an open bedroom with a queen bed attached to it, and a bathroom with a tub and shower.
