I saw a LivingSocial deal for School House Inn and bought it on impulse. I've bought quite a few things on impulse in the past, this is by far the best of those purchases. Initially I was a little nervous because neither my friend or myself had ever stayed in a bed and breakfast. On top of that, we're younger than the usual customers so we were worried about how we would be received in that setting. It took all of 30 seconds before we felt right at home. John gave us a tour, answered all of our questions, and was very friendly! We stayed in the Writing Room, which was huge and comfortable. The bed and pillows were like clouds. All of the old trinkets and books were very interesting to look through. Both mornings we had an amazing breakfast, courtesy of Paula. The first morning the dining room was full. We had a table full of the friendliest people I've ever met who were sweet and offered us suggestions of things to do and see. The following morning it was just us and one other couple, also very nice people. I did read these reviews and the one negative review had me slightly concerned so I'd like to address a few things: 1. The owners are very friendly, funny, and sweet. We were not given one single rule, and the only posted rule that I remember seeing was just in regards to not smoking or lighting candles. 2. Breakfast was delicious, both mornings the people at our table raved about it. 3. The bathroom wasn't huge and luxurious. It was a bathroom, it was cute, there was plenty of room to move around in it. 4. The inn is about a mile from everything, yes. If you get lost, it'll still only take you five minutes to get in to town. 5. The parking is a little tricky to back out of for the first time. You may need to spend up to thirty seconds assessing it and executing your escape plan. I suggest getting an early start. (If you can back out at an angle, it's not an issue.) Overall this was a great place to stay! I'm already looking for an excuse to go back and I highly recommend it!

Quick snapshots of the greatness found at The School House.

Enjoyed every minute of our stay. From the decor, to the history, to the breakfast , to the owners. This is a must stay in Bisbee.

We have stayed here several times and enjoyed every minute. The food is good and we love sitting outside on the patio under the trees.

We highly recommend this place for a one nighter or a long weekend or more. Great views of the night sky as well. We were able to see the Milky Way for the first time in years! Looking forward to all the future plans they have and will be returning as often as we can. Also, they have two EV charging stations for guest or if you are just passing through. I only spent a weekend, but a longer stay would definitely be preferable. It's so relaxing and peaceful, 2 days is not enough. P.S. I wasn't kidding about living here. What kind of deal would I get on an indefinite stay?

There are rolling grassy hills that are golden in the winter and green in the summer. A lot of people don't realize that the temperatures down here (due to the elevation) are much like northern Arizona in the winter -- so it's a great alternative to "going north" to cool off in the Summers. Temperatures rarely reach 100 on a Summer day and it cools to the 60s at night -- a luxury we don't get in the Valley! Our most recent visit (February 2012) was windy but gorgeous. No jackets required! Toni, proprietor, has started a gluten-free / allergy-free bakery and makes human AND dog treats! I can vouch for the human treats being delicious -- I especially liked the quinoa cookies. And, there's a lot to do in the area. No less than 11 winery tasting rooms are near by (there is a limo service you can hire if you can't agree on a designated driver). Or visit Parker Canyon Lake which you can walk (5 miles), fish or rent pedal boats or kayaks. Patagona Lake is larger and offers a lot of amenities and both offer camp sites. But, why camp when you can stay at Whisper's Ranch?! And, finally, Kartchner Caverns are a convenient stop on your way back to Phoenix but be sure to make a reservation! Southern Arizona, and particularly Whisper's Ranch, are great alternatives to heading north for a quick getaway!

You find it by 'mile marker' rather than street address and it's on a 'highway' but the GPS can't find it. The country around there is incredible. It's sort of near a bunch of wineries... but mostly it's around nothing but beautiful rolling grasslands. The accomodations are comfortable and simple. We had a nice hot shower after a long drive and were very comfortable in our bed. We couldn't get an $85 room--- the least expensive was $100 for us. They definitely prefer if you book in advance, over the computer. They're hard to reach on the phone and we were really lucky to be able to wing it last minute by just showing up. Luckily they took us in. We couldn't believe how beautiful Elgin was. Then we drove the back roads to Patagonia, AZ which was also great. We didn't get to hang out with the animals which was a shame- they had donkeys too - and it seems like heaven if you're a retired horse or goose. If you're just a wandering human, it's pretty damn beautiful.

It's a very cozy, wholesome location that you can spend the day lounging in- once you're done exploring the town, of course. I stayed in a one-bedroom suite on the ground floor; it had a decently sized kitchen & living room, along with a front balcony that allowed me to sit on the porch by the main entrance. The kitchen was stocked with cooking supplies, a microwave, fridge (w/ a Brita filter) & a coffee machine. The living room included a small, electric fireplace that worked well in keeping the area toasty in January. There was also a sink that was placed outside the bathroom, so someone can wash their hands while another person does more private matters separately. The bedroom had a King-sized mattress, and a door that led to a backyard where you can sit while looking at a painting of 'Virgin de Guadalupe.' When you enter the hotel, you're more than likely to not encounter any staff, since they leave everything you need for your stay in a slot on a large counter. You can't miss this spot; it is to the right when you first walk in- passed the staircase. If you do need help for any reason though, the office is right next to the counter labeled, "STAFF ONLY." This was a new way of doing customer service for me, which I really liked, and I hope to find other hotels that can manage this system. The location is beautiful and gives a sense that you're not in a bustling city like Los Angeles, but a more relaxed vibe that some people may long to have back, before the days where taking selfies became the norm. It's almost like the townspeople know each other as good friends, as you hear their laughter from the hotel, and the guitar music they play at local bars. Bisbee is known as a town revived by hippies, so that's a big part of its charm. You can watch a comedy show, visit the historical museum, go on a ghost tour, or explore the mountains at the Queen Mine Tour- all within walking distance! I couldn't find much wrong about the hotel or Bisbee in general, except for one major thing...those darn streets! Specifically, I'm talking about the street you have to drive up to park by the hotel. If you plan to drive here, then get ready for some narrow pathways. I was always worried being in the car and another vehicle would be driving the opposite direction. Don't be fooled by those "two-way street" signs, those paths are NOT capable of having two cars on one road. When I left the hotel, I ran to the bottom of the street to make sure nobody would driving up to block our car. The difficulty driving to the hotel can be a hinderance, so I wouldn't recommend staying here if you have serious issues walking up & down hills or anxiety over fighting over a slim street. Otherwise, if you're looking for a break from this busy world of ours, then going to Bisbee and staying at the El Dorado Suites Hotel will ease your nerves and let you enjoy the simple things in life.
