This past weekend we got to enjoy a really delicious and fun evening at the East End Market for our friend's birthday. La Femme du Fromage Upstairs is a private dining experience on the second floor of the popular East End Market, just above Domu. Dining here is by reservation only, so make sure to plan ahead. We had a group of 12 people, which was the max capacity this place can hold. This is a personalized dinner and wine pairing curated by the owner of La Femme, Tonda. She and her team took great care of feeding and entertaining us for a little over the 3 hours that we were there. The food was excellently prepared by Chef Dale and our table service was handled by Rob, who made sure our wines and drinks were always filled throughout the evening. Tonda is an expert in wines and cheeses, with over 30 years in the industry, traveling the world to learn the intricacies of both. Every course she brought out, she explained the history of the wine that was paired with it. Every cheese we tried, she explained what animal it was from and how it's prepared. She's such a burst of energy as well. You can really tell she loves what she does. Our first course (which I sadly forgot to take a picture of because I immediately inhaled it all) was a Brie fondue that was infused with champagne, shallots, garlic, and was topped with crab meat. Served with sides of roasted cauliflower, roasted carrots, apple slices, and a tasty crusty bread. (I cant for the life of me, remember what type it was) This dish was paired with a glass of Simonet Blanc de Blancs, a sparkling white wine. Every time I emptied my glass, Rob was nearby to immediately refill it. It was awesome! Our second course was a charcuterie plate of 3 cheeses, fresh blueberries and grapes, and wagyu beef salami. The first cheese presented was a soft spreadable sheep's cheese that was infused with truffle. It was earthy and nutty, and I was blown away by how velvety it was. The second cheese (and my personal favorite) was a coffee infused cow's cheese. I loved it so much that I also purchased a small block of it from Tonda at the end of the evening! The third cheese, if I remember correctly, was a hard goat cheese that was nutty and had a really cool texture when eating. The wagyu beef salami was amazing and paired really well with every cheese. All this was paired with a glass of Mommessin Beaujolais Villages, a fruity red wine. And of course, Rob was always ready to swing by and refill my glass when needed! The third course was a beef tenderloin, served with a side of asparagus and aligot, all topped with a delicious gravy. The beef was super tender, the asparagus still had a nice bite to it, and this was also my first time trying aligot. If you don't know what it is, it's a VERY cheesy mashed potato, and it's AWESOME! lol. This dish was paired with a glass of El Enemigo Malbec, a darker red wine from Mendoza. And yet again, my boy Rob was on deck to keep it coming! (I'm gonna shout out every chance I get) Finally for dessert, we had little vanilla and lemon shortcakes, topped with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. The cakes were moist and buttery and the strawberries were bright and lightly tart. The dessert was paired with a glass of Vietti Moscato d'Asti, a sweet sparkling white wine. This sweet wine was PERFECT for the sweet spongey cake. It was an absolutely delicious pairing. (And you already know Rob was getting the refill in) For anyone crazy enough to actually read all this. I hope you have the chance to go out and enjoy this place sometime. Tonda has a really special little spot here, and it deserves all the praise it gets. Chef Dale is a master of his craft, the food was amazing. And Rob is a damn good server who made sure we were always well taken care of. We will definitely be back soon, Tonda. I went here last night for a friends birthday (group of 11 ladies) and was blown away by both the food drinks and service. I loved hearing the stories behind the wine/cheese that she selected for us. Adults-Only Science Night Live was a BLAST!…read more This was my husband and my second time at Orlando Science Center and I gotta say we love the adults-only nights. This time, we stayed basically from open to close, and while we definitely didn't manage to do EVERYTHING, there was plenty to keep us entertained the entire evening. Parking was a little confusing based on the event information, but we arrived about 15 minutes before opening and found a spot pretty easily. We waited maybe 10 minutes to get inside, so overall entry was very smooth. HOT TIP: If you're sensitive to loud noises, earplugs are a good call. There was a dedicated DJ music area in the dinosaur exhibit, but other places were maybe a bit too loud, too, but still so fun! The Optical Illusions exhibit was probably one of my favorite parts-- There were so many fun photo opportunities, and even the house of mirrors was a blast -- coming from someone who is absolutely not usually a house-of-mirrors person. We also stopped in one of the hands-on areas and played with a circuit activity, did trivia, explored the exhibits and caught Kaboom (a fun show, but YES, earplugs are a must there). Trivia was also a great little break in the night. We grabbed drinks, sat down and played a round. I loved that they had a no-phones-at-the-table rule. If your phone came out, you were disqualified until the next round, which made everything feel much more fair. Food and drink prices were surprisingly reasonable for a special event. A beer was around $5-$6, and a big cookie from a local vendor (Sapanguita--the BEST) was around $4-$5 -- definitely better than what I'd expect to pay at a concert or sporting event. I also loved that several of the food options came from local businesses. HOT TIP: One thing to keep in mind if you have accessibility or mobility concerns: getting between floors via elevator can take some time, especially when they're crowded. I'd build a little extra time into your plans rather than trying to race from one scheduled activity to another. Speaking of scheduled activities: GET YOUR SHOW TICKETS EARLY! Both Kaboom and the laser show required tickets during our event, and it sounded like you could grab tickets for your preferred showtime near the beginning of the night. We got very lucky and snagged some of the last Kaboom tickets, and only made it into the laser show because other guests turned theirs back in. The one thing I'd personally skip next time was the laser show. The concept was cool, but ours was around 45 minutes long and ended after midnight. From where we were sitting, I felt like I was craning my neck quite a bit and the lasers eventually started bothering my eyes. Even with earplugs, it was still pretty loud, too. It also didn't feel especially easy to leave once the show started because of the dark theater and needing to exit up the stairs! The soundtrack was very '90s rock/grunge, which my husband recognized and enjoyed much more than I did. Overall, though, this was a really enjoyable night and I'd absolutely consider doing another adults-only event here -- especially if there were a new temporary exhibit to explore.

She got to hang out with a smart and fun group of young tech professionals who allowed her to experience the various facets of coding and game development. It was especially great for her to shadow female tech professionals and to see that girls can and do code. During her week there, she also learned about the history of gameboy, played Zelda, and built an island for fortnite, among other things. She had lunch with the staff, got to meet several of their dogs and had a fun and educational experience. We hope to return again next year.

This program isn't limited to kids thats are struggling in math and reading, in actuality this program fits the need for kids (and lets be honest parents) that don't want their kid to be limited to their grade level standards. That's right no ceilings your little one can advance as many grade levels in reading and math as their potential determines! Thus far we have been to two locations. One in Davie and the one here in downtown Orlando. Although both instructors had different method none fell short. Mrs. K runs off of a learning map with stickers to mark your success along the journey. A new map for every level they go. Mrs. K is extremely accommodating to parents with busy schedules with tons of time block availability for the in house instruction and even a time frame on Saturdays which was nonexistent in our last location. Mrs. K learns your goals and (I will never admit this to our child's teacher) her team consult in ways to improve and assist the child. As well as suggest excellent tools and opportunities that we can help along the way. Over all we are so thankful for Mrs. K and the Kumon crew!

First off, each Kumon is privately owned by people who actively run the center. We love local businesses and we especially love places that build up our children and community. Why this particular Kumon? Well, as I said earlier, each one is different. Although the method of teaching is the standardized Japanese Kumon Method, the personality and style is fully dependent upon the owners who run and manage each facility. We have found that this location has an instructor and staff who REALLY care about how each student is doing. The team is very nurturing and able to keep the children constantly engaged. The instructor is Mrs. Kalpana Malshe ("Mrs. K") who is both a mother and an educator. She has a Bachelor with honors in Chemistry and Education as well as a Masters in Applied Chemistry. Mrs. K was also nominated "Who's Who Among America's Teachers" from 2003-2006 and has published 3 papers. Of all the career paths, she chose to help educate young minds. To me, this says a lot about someone. This program is great if your child is learning the fundamentals and sharpening their skills. It helps to quickly build confidence and is individually tailored to your child's ability. We have found that our daughter is consistently at least 2 grade levels ahead and we have seen her confidence skyrocket in both math and reading. Kumon has brought at lot of peace and less stress to our household.
