I flipped open my scratched up grey Motorola cell phone, cupping my mouth in case anyone was listening (at this point I didn't trust anyone inside the hospital). Ring ring ring. "Doctor's office." A pleasant voice. A reassuring voice. "I'd like to make an appointment with...Dr. Schroeder." "Are you a new patient?" The pleasant voice on the other side of the line didn't recognize me. "Um, yes..." I wasn't sure how to introduce myself. The sounds of footsteps down the hospital corridor made me jumpy. I didn't want anyone knowing what I was doing. "How about...October 17th at 11am. Does that work for you?" October 17th?? I'll be dead by then. "Today, it has to be today." A pause. The pleasant voice was a little confused. "Today? Does he know you're calling?" Kinda of, sort of...no. "It's important. Really really important. I'm kind of in a bad situation and it's urgent. He knows it's bad." "Okay...um..." I could feel her compassion seeping through the phone wires. She clicked a few things. "I can squeeze you in for a few minutes at 3pm. Would that work for you?" I looked at the clock, it was 9:35am. That was plenty of time to get out of the hospital and get to the office. "Yes, it's perfect, I'll take it, thank you." "And your name?" "Tara Kittle." "I'll see you this afternoon Tara." Click. I dropped the phone into my lap, and reached for the nurse call button next to my hospital bed. Click Click Click. The familiar slightly annoying and mechanical voice crackled my room. "How can I help you." I was long past tired of them as they were of me. "I'm leaving. Now. I don't know what it is that you need to do, but I'm leaving the hospital today." "Excuse me?" I sat up a little stronger. "I'm leaving today. I have a doctor's appointment. I have to leave today." "Let me get your nurse for you." Click. I swung my legs over the edge of the bed. The room tilted, barely had the strength to sit up, let alone stand. I prayed for the strength I didn't have. And with that, I stood up, shaking in my hospital robe. I've been a patient of Dr. Schroeder's suite mate, Dr. Gordon for over a year now. I adore Dr. Gordon. He was treating me for bronchitis after I had contracted a cold virus, and I just couldn't get better. I called to see if I could come back in for an exam, but Dr. Gordon was out of town. The front desk quickly got Dr. Schroeder on the phone. I told him my symptoms and how long I'd been sick (almost a month) and he told me to come in immediately. Dr. Schroeder is kind, extremely intelligent and has the greatest sense of humor. He prescribed a steroid inhaler for me and gave me some meds along with it. I feel so much better. I can breathe again! I thought I got lucky when I first met Dr. Gordon. After being treated by Dr. Schroeder, I feel like I have hit the jackpot. I am so grateful to have two of the most attentive, caring pulmonologists in the same office. read more

I used to be a patient until I found out he charges a 750.00 concierge fee. Seems to be a Norm for these greedy doctors in Beverly Hills. So they can live that extravagant lifestyle. Doctors in America definitely do not have ethics and do not care about patients. If they did they would not charge these fees. We as patients spend enough for PPO plans and bills. Dr Schroeder is a great doctor... always in command of the details from visit to visit. Timely and organized. Staff is sharp and knowledgeable. We have been very fortunate to be with his practice for 5+ years. with recent insurance changes he switched over to straight private practice model.... no insurance. We simply couldn't afford to stay on. But when I can I would jump back in. As for the complainers, you voted politicians in to screw up your medical options. you were all warned. That's a lazy, arrogant and a greedy doctor. Shame on you, Andrew. I wanted to echo the point made in another review about the $750 "Concierge Fee." I just called the office and my experience with the receptionist was so off-putting that I abandoned becoming a patient of this doctor altogether (which is a shame, because he came highly recommended by another doctor of mine). First, the receptionist was entirely unhelpful about whether the doctor took my insurance, indicating that it was MY responsibility to call my insurance company and ascertain that. I have Empire PPO, which is a pretty standard insurance, so that was a first for me. Then, in remarking upon the "Concierge Fee," the receptionist just stated outright that it was required and not covered by insurance. There was no explanation as to what it covers, why it's important, etc. The fee would not have been a big deal for me to pay, and I probably would have gladly done so if the receptionist had provided even the slightest amount of customer service or displayed an iota of helpfulness. My advice to Dr. Schroeder is to provide some basic sales and service training to his receptionist . It seems like a great doctor is losing prospective patients based on their contact with her. read more

I just called the office to make an appointment. The lady on the phone said that they take $750 fee even if the insurance covers everything. I would have to pay $750 fee for the doctor! And this if i need any prescription or referral in the future. She said even if I didn't need them i have to pay the $750. I asked her if this is a must to see the doctor. She said yes. You can't see the doctor unless you pay $750 !!!!! This is why medicine is business not a moral thing anymore. And btw i have blue cross PPO insurance that covers everything. I found Dr. Schroeder through recommendations of a doctor. I was having breathing issues and ended up with adult indused asthma. He has been my doctor for over 7 years. During that that time he has taken exceptional care of me when I had a cold which is not good when you have asthma. He knows his stuff, not stuck in his ways. My husband now goes to him as well. I have no hesitation is recommending him. He has found a way to control my asthma and I am so grateful. His staff is also exceptional. I park in a 1 hour meter everytime and I am always in and out of the office within an hour. Very well run office! read more

As a practicing dentist I have been treating myself for an annoying cough for the last 2 months. I tried everything from Oil of Oregano to inhalations and even a Z pac. Nothing worked. Not only does he have the most charming bed-side manner ever but he ran a few tests and changed my medications all in a timely manner. I have been to many pulmonary physicians as I have had asthma for my entire life. I was referred by my primary doctor. I found Dr. Schroeder caring and having good bedside manner. He is funny and has a good personality which for someone who is ill, or needs to be understood--which is all of us--this type of personality helps. He id gentle and a find doctor. He listens and took a complete history of my presenting problem. He is very approachable and yet very straight with his points. He treats you with respect. He wanted to take an X-Ray and asked it I was OK with it. I found he explaining asthma, and the coordinating medications so that they make sense. I was ill and he prescribed medication that worked. His staff was interesting. From the waiting room they were "closed off" by their little window. Once inside, the "nurse" was very attentive and nice. Breathing is a scary thing when it doesn't work. Asthma is not fun either. He makes one relax which is exactly what an asthmatic needs--to be heard and reassured. He is great! Highly recommend. He set up a follow-up! read more

DISTURBING & SHAMEFUL! My 93 year old father has been a patient of his for a long time, recently he came home from a stint at the ICU for an illness. The hospital recommended I call his doctor and make a follow up appointment. When I called, his receptionist said the next available time was next (ok no problem) but then I asked simply when Dr. Schroeder has time can he call me so i can ask some questions of what I can do during the next 7 days while we wait for his time slot. And thats when everything fell apart and became downright shameful! The receptionist called me back and said Schroeder ( I won't even dignify him as a doctor anymore) would not speak to me nor my father until our appointment time in 7 days. I was completely shocked at the total disregard for another human, and by a well respected person none the less. I told her he should be ashamed by the lack of care and compassion. His job is to make patients feel better, I think he has forgotten that. Ultimately its very sad. I would understand if my apt time was the next day or if my father was a new patient with no history with Andrew... but to say that he won't have the decency to speak in general terms with me is unforgivable and disturbing. read more

This doctor dropped United HealthCare without informing patients so I was hit with a bill of over $600 for a routine visit. He had no problem sending me a letter when the practice moved locations but when he dropped my insurance carrier there was no communication at all. He also orders spirometry unnecessarily and always offers ear wax removal to try and drive up his billings. read more

They don't accept Tricare health insurance. I guess serving in the military isn't enough to be seen by these privileged doctor's. Funny how that works we serve so they can be free and become doctor's and in return they laugh and say things like "Well it was your choice to join the military" Very Disappointing. read more
