We came for coffee. The smell of sugar hit us at the door. If you've acquired your coffee taste somewhere that takes it seriously, don't come here. Michigan has a type: dress sugar up as coffee and call it a café. This place fits the mold. The espresso roast smelled burnt. The sweetness was overwhelming before we even ordered. They advertise wheelchair accessibility. The handicap sign was there. The parking spot, if used, blocked two regular spots. The ramp approach was awkward. The door was a struggle. I love going to Schuil when I'm on 28th street and need a little pick me up! The space is small and cozy but a perfect wintery vibe! The staff here are extremely nice and are very patient if you need help deciding on a coffee or picking out beans. Their flavored coffees are what make them different and set them apart. Came here to meet with a friend over coffee and thought it was so cute. At first I got nervous because it looks like there are only two small tables but there's some more seating around the corner. stopped in before work while tracking for business and was pleasantly surprised. the woman working the counter was so kind and helpful in helping me choose a drink. ended up trying the s'mores cold brew, something out of my norm and was pleasantly surprised. the "marshmallow" cold foam was the perfect sweetness to balance the cold brew. highly recommend trying! there wasn't a ton of seating around but still enough to enjoy an intimate coffee. very clean and simple vibes and loved seeing all their different bean offerings displayed. the croissant had to be one of the better ones i've had, you could tell it's made fresh, very delicious and buttery. read more

We had such a great experience here! The baristas were super helpful when I didn't know what to order, and pointed me to the most perfect latte! I love that their drinks have unique flavor combinations! They had tons of beans to choose from if you wanted some to go, and some cute merch. Coffee is good, workers were very subpar. First time customer and last. Personnel seemed angry and unapproachable. We almost walked out. The person behind the counter was rather surly and unfriendly to us. I believe she was annoyed she had to stop talking to her friend. We were interrupting her conversation. It was almost humorous, I said hello first, I asked if they were having a good day, We tried to ask about coffee and literally no engagement. Just stood at the register waiting for us to decide to order. We picked up the menu, no help at all, and another human rushed over to fix the placement of the menu (apparently did not square it was it's the counter). It was very sad experience and coffee is suppose to be love in a mug. I absolutely love this place! It's so much better than going to a place that has a location on every corner. The service is great and everyone is friendly, the coffee is always good, and the inside is super cute. I have tried so many different drinks and love their seasonal menus. I stopped in around 8am on a Wednesday while waiting for my daughter at an appointment nearby. There were 4 team members working, and no other customers. I was greeted right away, and a team member helped me with my order. I purchased ground coffee, baked goods, and a hot coffee to go. This is one of my new favorites! It's off the beaten path of most coffee shops so it's never too busy. It's got a really nice inside seating areas with a variety of chairs and tables. My family has been buying Schuil coffee for years and my boyfriend and I almost always get a few bags to give as gifts around the holidays. We stopped in last winter and were surprised to see that the inside of the shop has had a refresh and is a bit more modern now. Of course during COVID there is no seating available but we were able to pick up some coffee and felt comfortable being inside with a couple other people who were waiting. The employees were all very polite and friendly! The whole shop smells so wonderful, it's so fun to be in there and smelling all the coffee. They have a lot of flavored coffees as well as decaf, some tea options, and a coffee bar for prepared drinks. You can purchase whole bean coffee or they will grind it for you. My apologies to Schuil's...I thought I wrote a review weeks ago! I just went there, again, for the second time. Schuil has their coffee sold all over the place. They're mostly known for their flavored coffee. My first time there, I purchased a Costa Rican blend (non-flavored) and it was really good; also had a latte. My second time there, I got another latte. It was really good. The coffee I got was a spring mix: lavender vanilla. Made a pot this morning and wow...awesome. Not too sweet at all! This is also the place where I discovered Lucy's baked goods (they sell them here!). If you need to do any work, the place is big enough to find a table or chair and sit down with the computer and get after it. read more

I just had a drip coffee but I was high quality, great flavor. They have some fresh pastries and baked goods.
