A fantastic family owned business where the married couple run the show. Lee is a Vietnam vet and the pro behind the bar while Dianne runs around entertaining the guests making sure this well oiled machine of a gem is operating smoothly...which it always is. Friday Fish Fry is their specialty so get their early. Order at the service desk what you want to eat and then wait at the bar for your number gets called to sit down. Bring cash! Very limited cell signal! ATM on site because they don't take cards. Their deep fried mussels are 100 out of 100. read more

Granted I do know the owners, but, My brother who has lived several places in Wisconsin and other States as well as have visited other countries, states, "Schultz's is the epicenter of fish fries. The further you get away the worse they get." It is packed, but for good reason. I highly recommend it at least once. Ask what they like when you order. Also some of the best old fashioneds ever. Two first timers that read reviews prior to choosing......So, how this pretty lack luster business works is...if there is no seating at the bar, you might find a couple misc. chairs against the wall without a table or a friend. Best to know what you want as asking seems to call you out as a foreigner ... No seating at the bar so against the wall/ wall flowers it was. Dinner area is open at 4pm. Process is, don't find a table or wait for a waitress, go to the counter and "check in". Make up your mind with what you want right there and right now. You need to wait to be assigned to a table or be prepared to catch some significant unfriendly attitude.... As for the others reviews.... "French fries were a little off the mark" .......Instead they are common out the freezer crinkle fries and ALOT off the mark. Hashbrowns were same as what your favorite McDonalds provides to you. "We especially enjoyed being able to go "half and half" on every order: half haddock, half steamed shrimp; half French fries, half hash browns, etc"... NOT EVEN Close.....When I asked regarding this option, I was abruptly told to read the menu....Add on's are an extra cost.... "Wonderful classic Wisconsin supper club-ish experience!" ....In my experience of wonderful supper club experiences....our table would have include, filled water glasses, cheese, breadsticks and vegetable tray. Had Friday fish, very well prepared, crisp, not overcooked. French fries were a little off the mark, but still ok. Service was a little slow, they were busy, to be fair. Old fashions were good, very pricey by rural Wisconsin bar standards. We did request Kessler, perhaps that raised the price. Decent, overall. read more

Excellent fish fry! The owners Diane and Lee instantly make you fee at home. We were a party of 4. We all ordered something different and all plates were excellent. $1.50 old fashioned. Business has been in the family since 1936. Definitely a hidden gem! read more

A great restaurateur once told me that the best place in town is the place where you're known the best. Well, we walked in to Schult Country Inn on a packed Friday night not knowing a soul (& for the first 5min that was a little intimidating). But after surprising the bartender by ordering a martini "up", it ended up being a conversation starter all the way around. We walked out having met the owners (Diane and Lee), a lot of the staff (Barb, Amy and several others), and several customers. Everyone was as friendly as could be. It was a great Wisconsin Fish Fry experience and we will definitely come back. The main courses (haddock fish fry, poor man's lobster and steamed shrimp), the sides, and appetizers were all very good. We especially enjoyed being able to go "half and half" on every order: half haddock, half steamed shrimp; half French fries, half hash browns, etc. It allowed us to sample a lot of items. Schult Country is off the beaten track, but is worth getting there for the good food, good drink, and friendly people. read more

Wonderful classic Wisconsin supper club-ish experience! Good old fashioneds, good fish fry and great owners and employees!!! We ended up waiting for almost 2.5 hours for our food. The bar was packed, but everyone was welcoming and waiting patiently for their tables. We sat/stood and drank old fashioneds, played the (non digital jukebox), and fully enjoyed the experience while chatting with the owners and other customers! Highly recommend; although, if you are in a rush, have plans after dinner or simply don't like waiting- this is an experience not a fast food establishment! Go and enjoy, places like this are out there, but few and far between. read more

We were in Merrill and searched for a Friday Fish Fry. Ended up here. So when you come in you order right away. I ordered the 2 piece haddock. You can choose the # of pieces. All the meals include a cup of soup, coleslaw, a potato, and rye bread. I had a cup of chicken dumpling. It was tasty and hot. I had a baked potato. You could also have French fries or hash brown patties. The fish was super tender on the inside and crisp but not overdone on the inside. Everything was so good and definitely worth going off the beaten path to try. Plus the service was friendly in both the dining area and bar. read more

Great food and cheap Old Fashioned's. Cash or check only but they have an ATM and you order as soon as you walk in the door. Tuesday night is Mexican food, Friday night fish fry, and Sunday lunch buffet. They may be open other days but I didn't get a chance to find out. My party had Poormans Lobster, Perch, Haddock, shrimp and Portesi cheese fries. Everything was amazing. Portion sizes were also very large and came with soup, rye bread, coleslaw and choice of potato. read more

Great fish fry, great small-town atmosphere and of course great cocktails! Also, their Mexican menu on Tuesdays is a great find. A regular stop when I am in Merrill, my family knows that if it's Friday we have to go to Schultz's. The staff is friendly and knows most of their patrons by name (my grandma always has a drink waiting for her when we walk in). It's a bit of an adventure to the country, but well worth the travels. read more

I used to go here for fish fries from time to time. The food was OK. The service was kind of slow. While waiting for our table, my friend and I could not help but overhear a loud obnoxious female voice from behind the bar. When we figured out who was yacking at such a load and annoying volume, we realized that it was the owner. Her husband, who seemed like a very decent man, looked as if he was completely embarrassed by the drunken owner, who happened be his wife. When I tried to get another drink, I noticed that only certain people were being served. I figured since I was not a regular visitor, my business was not important. I felt like leaving. However, we stayed eat our fish fry. The waitress was rude, and seemed to still be more concerned with her cell phone then waiting on tables. This was not OK. When we received our food, it was undercooked and smelly. As in smelly, I mean overwhelmingly like raw fish. I also found a hair in my German potato salad. Overall, I would not recommend eating here. The older female bartender was loud and obnoxious, and continued her ridiculous behavior until we left. But my friend said his meal was pretty good, so go and find out on your own. read more
