I had an 8:45 AM telehealth appointment for an important prescription refill that I need to function, but Dr. Toohey was over 10 minutes late, which I didn't mind as I know she is busy. But because of her delay, I had to start driving to work. When she finally joined, and despite me saying "One second I'm pulling over right now", she immediately said we couldn't proceed because I was driving, ignored me, and abruptly ended the call within 10 seconds of joining - with 0 patience or willing to listen or care. It was very hurtful. When I reached out via message to ask what just happened and that I am pulled over now and ready, she responded by terminating me as a patient via letter. Her attitude throughout was condescending, rude, and disrespectful. This is not how healthcare professionals should treat patients, and I would not recommend her to anyone seeking any shred of empathy or care from a provider.

She wasn't in a rush to get me in and get me out, and took the time to get to know me and my medical history a bit before going into any sort of next steps and what not. I think I've found a solid PCP to go to for the foreseeable future.

I was out to ease during my first visit. It's rare to find street parking, as there are only a couple of meters near the intersection of Broad and High, so I end up parking under the state house. It usually costs me $5 to park. I actually enjoy the experience, because I think it's neat to walk under high street and you stay out of the weather. The lobby is clean and comfortable. There are always ample magazines available and the TV is set to daytime television. There is a commentary coffee station as well. I've found all staff to be friendly and outgoing. The doctors take the time to really listen to me, and I feel they have helped me immensely over the years. They are knowledgeable and intuitive. I feel like they take a holistic approach at health, and don't just try to push you out of the door with a script. I remember it used to be easier to get in, or maybe it was just this time, because it took me a month to get in this time to see my doctor at the location I wanted. Might just be the season though. No worries, I know if I needed to get in earlier there were other options (visiting the other location where she splits her time, or scheduling with another doctor).

One of the nurses rolled her eyes when asked to give out hot towels... Lastly when I was asked to be discharged one of the nurses said they were understaffed when there were staff everywhere. The lobby barely had any people. They finally gave me my chest scan when I begged 5 times to leave. To my surprise every result came back normal! Why would I stay in the hospital for 6 hours if my results came back normal? This sort of treatment is lazy and as a hard working black woman I don't appreciate this type of behavior!

She was almost passive aggressive and seemed annoyed we came to an urgent care facility. Didn't discuss any results of the test they ran and basically just shoved us off to the ER.

The front desk person wasn't the most friendly, but then again I was in a lot of pain. My major issue with the visit was the doctor. He was both unprofessional and a bit unhelpful. After looking at my eye, he said to the medical assistant something along the lines of "look how big [the ulcer] is, you can see it without the magnifying device." Yeah, really cool. English was also his second language. I could understand him perfectly but he kept giving me the wrong directions while he was flushing out my eye. He would tell me to look at the floor and then immediately correct himself, and tell me to look straight ahead of me. This was concerning as having your eye flushed out is a bit stressful. When I got a diagnosis, I had a lot of questions (I basically couldn't see out of on eye and was in a lot of pain). Like, would my vision return? A pretty important question, I think. He just never gave me a straight answer. I understand he wasn't a specialist, but at that point he should have just told me he didn't know and sent me to a specialist immediately. He told me to see a specialist in 2-3 days if it hadn't improved and gave me some eyedrops. The medical assistant (I think she was a MA) was actually very empathic and took the time to answer my question. My major issue, was that the doctor's diagnosis created a sense of panic, and I left feeling panicked because I didn't know how serious the issue was or if it was being adequately treated. I ended up going to an eye doctor the next day, and even she referred me to a cornea specialist (who agreed to see me immediately--so that gives you a sense of the urgency of the problem). That specialist discontinued the eye drops I had been using, and started me on three new eye drops. She proceeded to schedule follow appointments in two days and one week. Overall, they didn't do any damage. But aside from getting a diagnosis (and the contact out of my eye), they didn't do anything of value. The moral of the story is don't sleep in your contacts, and when you can't see out of one eye, just go to the ER.
