School ratings for this HS is 3 out of 10. Been looking for schools in the area for a family member and I think it'll be good to recommend them to move somewhere where schools are 8 to 10 ratings. This is really sad if the school isn't preparing their students for college level courses. And, can't fault all of it on the staff and teachers, either; the students and their parents need to be accountable as well. I'm sure this high school has seen better times in its early heydays. Hopefully, it's ratings reaches at least an 8+ to be competitive with other surrounding schools and college entrance. The school board needs to look into other districts on how to motivate the community to be more involved with their students to succeed in their studies. Good luck!! Okay all teachers are great just make sure if your kid gets the French teacher Nunez pray for them cus she is the worst there is she doesn't teach literally she just gives assignments and doesn't even go through with them. The test she doesn't care if you pass or fail she expects too many things and she is so specific about the way things are but she should understand that everyone understands different so shame on her I don't care what y'all say she doesn't deserve to be a teacher read more

Parent/visitor parking sucks.... No one monitors the "20 minute" parking. If you need to visit the front office your only other choice is to park on top and walk down the hill. That's really my only complaint right now read more

As a parent, I'm very disappointed. My son graduated last year and my daughter is graduating this year. Till this day, I have not received my son's yearbook. Class of 2022 yearbooks were sent out for printing months after the class graduated. These kids didn't have their yearbooks signed by their peers because of an irresponsible teacher in charge of it. Her name is Ms. Cunningham. I hope she reads this and is ashamed of herself! And also hope she's not in charge of it this year. But, I will for sure inquire before I purchase one this year. I purchased yearbook through a website that charged me for shipping. A few moths back I got a voicemail from someone in the school letting me know the yearbook was ready for pickup. Why should I pick up when I paid for shipping. It's not like my son needs it anymore! Ship the damn thing to me! Graduation day was supposed to be June 10th and they moved it to June 1st because of a scheduling issue, at least that's what personnel in the office said. Seniors graduated on the first and they were expected to continue to attend school until the 10th. CRAZY! There seems to be a patter of people in charge who procrastinate till the last minute affecting the senior class. This year they have 600 graduating seniors and only had 250 grad night tickets available. RIDICULOUS! These kids worked their behinds for 13 years and don't even get a fair chance to enjoy their senior activities as a reward for their accomplishments. My point is, if you want your kids to have a good senior year, don't send them to this school. The staff needs to get their act together and do their job. It seems to me they're just showing up and doing the bare minimum for a paycheck. Very very disappointed. My 8th grader has been in charter schools since elementary and wanted to attend a public high school. Her home school would be Schurr. There's no way she'll be going here! read more

I visited the school to watch a basketball game, and I thought the campus was nice. Spacious and there were plenty of bleachers / seats for spectators in the gymnasium. I also like the solar panels over the parking spots in the back area. Very pretty view of the mountains by the open fields and tennis courts. read more

The Staff was helpful in directing us to the field, (We came for a Soccer Game), Great parking, Nice Clean Visitors Bleachers to sit on & to my surprise...they even had a Snack Bar. However I did take away a Star because the Restrooms are simply disgusting... I went into the Bathroom next to the snack bar & almost every stall had No toilet paper seat protectors in the holders & in their place was USED Tampons & USED Feminine Pads!! Trash in each stall as well as many used toilets Not Flushed. Honestly I almost touched Female USED products because they were everywhere. What does that say about a young lady? Do you do that at your home? Is it really fair for a Janitor to have to touch & Clean your used products. One of our other moms used a restroom closer to campus & there was No Paper at all in the stalls. So my suggestion is since the females on this campus don't respect their OWN restrooms BRING WIPES, PAPER & LOTS OF HAND SANITIZER to use in the stalls. * I am NOT SURPRISED that there was Hand Soap in the dispensers ( Obviously these girls DON'T WASH their HANDS ) So there's plenty. With that being said the Field was nice & Lighting was awesome. Great amount of seating. read more

Schurr High School - Win or Lose 'We're a Team' !!!! - Middle Schools & High Schools Near Me - Montebello, California

I graduated from Schurr last year, after spending all four years of hs there. I have to say, that in those four years the school became a second home to me. The quality of education is amazing for a school in a little city like Montebello. It's lacking in some areas of course, because it's not in an extremely wealthy area, though in the past because of oil, Montebello was a rich city. However, because of that, the school still has some amazing teachers from the days when oil money made the city great. I'll give you the strengths of Schurr's academics and programs: AMAZING college counsellor, Mr. Castillo, he goes above and beyond and will guide you through everything there is to know about getting to and applying to college and will greet you by first name. Good selection of AP and Honors classes. Our English department is especially strong for the AP and honors classes. Ms. Harris and Ms. Wellenstein (Now Langevine) are argueably some of the best English teachers Schurr has to offer. I scored in the 94th percentile in the nation on the PSAT for the language arts section while in Ms. Harris's class. Granted, I was naturally gifted, but good teaching helps a lot. Langevine also manages the school newspaper, the Spartan Scroll, which is one of the best school papers in the country. They've won awards and our paper is a delight to read, with wonderful graphics and award winning journalists. I was an Assistant News Editor for a brief time, and the work ethic and dedication the staff and Langevine put into the paper is awe-inspiring. Our yearbook is also a thing of beauty and wins nation-wide awards in competition as well, and is run by the very kind, funny and extremely dedicated Ms. Cunningham. The thing about Schurr, is that even if we don't have the best materials and resources, it's our great teachers and students that make the school what it is. Not all, but many teachers are caring and encouraging toward students and a good amount make sure they are available if their students need help. We also have our share of lazy students and thugs, but nothing too bad. Many of our athletic teams are very good. A few years back our football team won CIF and we've had a history of doing well in that sport. We have a nationally ranked cheer team, as well as a great band. Our wrestlers are very good as well as our soccor teams. There's a lot of variety in our sports and extra-curriculars and even if the team isn't amazing, the coach in charge and the people that participate usually make it amazing. I was on the swim team and the head coach, Anthony Moreno, one of the best I've ever had, retired. He was so well loved that I was able to organize and raise enough money to send him and his wife on a retirement cruise to Mexico worth about $400. All four years in swim made me love both the sport and the people in it. We have a very good speech and debate team run by a wonderful, if a bit tough coach named Tony. Our Renaissance Program, which rewards students for good grades and hard work, is the envy and model of other schools who want the same program and is run by Mr. Seto. We have great assemblys hosted by them and they are always fun. The drama department is run by Mr. Gonzales, and his plays are funny, hip and usually have some nice new talent. Our Vocal Ensemble was amazing with Ms. Hammontree, and Randy our accompanist. She retired last year, but her predecessor is doing well with Randy still there to help out and the kids really enjoy it. The architecture of the school is nice with some beautiful greenery and compared to the boxy, bungalow filled high schools around us (*cough* Montebello High) it's refreshing and unique. I really love the honeysuckle that blooms every spring on campus as it makes the air smell lovely and is attractive and cheerful. The food is average like any other hs; bad. But our Homecoming is something to look forward to, because all the sports and organizations bring in outside food to fund-raise and it's delicious. Fried twinkies, In-in-out burgers, you name it, we have it then. I don't think I'm forgetting anything, but I will say I didn't give a perfect score because there are things to be improved. That being said, I also think it is one of the best schools in the area and the quality of education is amazing. read more

Nice school. Can only tell you about the parking and gym. My niece has had her bball game here once in awhile. So I get to visit the schools gym and watch her play. What a nice school and parking is huge. There are two bball gym. A huge one for the older league and the small gym for the little league. Perfect for our league. And it's clean. The bathroom in the big gym is much cleaner. Sorry haven't traveled around the school. read more

Okay this local public school helps out the local community and the new football field is really nice. My son plays for a city football league and will our local park was overrun with coyotes they allowed us to practice on their field. Also my niece attended a cheer camp here at their gym so I look at this school in a different light. Great job Schurr high and thanks for opening up your doors to the community. read more

I only saw a bit of the inside of this school. but what i did see, I liked. the staff that assisted me in the office was also very helpful and kind. though it did look a bit like a new-ish style prison. though, because i didn't see the entire school, the rest of the school could have easily looked better. so this one gets 3 stars out of 5 (For schurr) read more

Definitely a dangerous place to live by. One of the kids threw a rock over the fence and as it shattered a part of it went right up my driveway and hit my leg. No respect and when I called the super intending to complain the only thing they did was send out a guard to check 30 minutes after the fact. read more

This review is only for the football field. This high school has a very nice turf field. I'm sure if it's new or not, but it appears to be very well taken care of. The track isn't half bad either. I'm here for work on a Sunday night, so I'm not sure if it's ever open to the public or not. read more
