There is also a decent amount of quality furniture to relax in when I do come back earlier and have always been offered a drink while waiting. It's a win-win for the both of us. He comes back well-groomed with a fresh haircut/beard and a nice lil buzz from a sizable selection of drinks from the bar. As a member there are definitely perks, including choosing member exclusive spirits which give a higher value to membership. There were several times that he did get swapped between barbers last minute though...so if you're one to be picky about who cuts your hair/beard, this might not be the place for you. After 13 months at Scissors & Scotch, this chapter came to an unexpected end. Throughout my time there, I consistently worked hard, built lasting relationships with my clients, and was proud to be one of the shop's top producers. I truly gave my all every day. Over the past year, I repeatedly raised concerns with management about money I believed I was owed, including reimbursement, PTO, and wages that I believed were missing from my pay. Each time I tried to address these payroll issues, I felt dismissed rather than heard. I understand mistakes happen, but when payroll concerns continue to happen, they deserve to be taken seriously. When I asked to review the money I believed I was still owed, I was told my concerns were fixable. Instead, I later received a phone call on my day off informing me that my employment was being terminated. I was labeled a "disgruntled employee" after repeatedly asking about my pay. I believe I was retaliated against for raising concerns about wages and payroll. When I went to the shop to request the employee handbook, ask about the money I believe I'm still owed, and request a reason for my termination, the police were called instead of someone meeting with me to have a professional conversation. That experience was heartbreaking. I believe every employee deserves to ask questions about their pay without fear of losing their job. Speaking up about wages should never be mistaken for causing problems. Most importantly, to every client who trusted me with your hair--thank you from the bottom of my heart. You could have chosen any barber in San Antonio, and you chose to sit in my chair. The friendships, conversations, laughs, and trust you gave me meant more than you'll ever know. Honestly just a really disappointing experience. They advertise all these quirky things for men like free drinks and luxury service but the experience is nothing near that. Super super basic barbers and really bad attitudes. The free drinks never happened, the bartender honestly was all over some friend of hers who came in to have a drink, my first time and I wasn't even offered one! Secondly honestly it's the worse haircut I've had. The barber was awkward and made me feel very uncomfortable. I guess she was from Cali and as she described her sense of humor is 'different?' What I found was nasty and rude! I asked for a haircut a specific way but she told me how it wouldn't look good and wanted to do it different. On my way out I got asked to tip, I of course declined and told the receptionist (same bartender as before) how bad my time was. She laughed and charged me full price. I called back 5 times in the next 3 weeks to speak to a manager but they continually told me nobody was available. The good: Decent haircut, not amazing. Nice interior -- polished and clean. The bad: I started a monthly membership with them. They charged me for the month, and so I set up an appointment, under the impression that this would be my monthly haircut. Unfortunately I did have to no-show this appointment due to my work as a healthcare provider, which is not their fault. However, they said that according to their "cancel/no-show policy" (which is not outlined in the membership contract or anywhere on the website), they would charge me full price for the haircut. They proceeded to charge an entire second haircut to my card on file. So I've been charged essentially two haircuts for zero. The right thing to do would simply be to expend my monthly credited haircut, not charge me a second time. Also, the bar offerings are pretty terrible, ironic for a place whose name implies they are serious about alcohol. read more

I've been going to this place since it started and I've had a membership since they became available. I think this place is generally great! My barber, Becky, is incredibly kind and always flexible with the different haircuts I try. She kills it every time and also knows how to do beards which can be pretty hot or miss with barbers. As an aside, I really love the hot towel and hair wash with every haircut. You also get a complimentary drink with every haircut which I love. They have a pretty good selection but the really good stuff is an additional charge even with a haircut. I think some of the more popular drinks also end up on the "for purchase" shelf which can be a bummer. The store is clean with a more professional vibe. It's always comfortable and well kept. My only place for improvement is the membership process and perks. When I first got a membership, I was told I could come in once a week for upkeeps, which I loved doing! Recently, I was told I only have as many upkeeps as I have haircuts. I'm on the monthly plan so...one and one per month. Overall a great experience! read more

This is the worst place ever! Terrible management group! Brenda and Jascanne do not care about the clients. They give bad customer service, talk about clients in Spanish. They drop appointments and and don't give clients any notification. They have their friends over on Fridays giving away liquor loudly while other clients have to wait. It's been the most unproductive, unprofessional environment that I've ever worked. The Owner should really let this management team go so that they don't run down the Scissors and Scotch name. I have a membership to Scissors & Scotch and have been serviced by their staff in various locations within the US. The staff at the San Antonio location has always done a great job. However, the quality of the bar has gone severely downhill as of late. Amenities provided to customers have been very limited to only a few types of drinks due to the small selection. If you are familiar with the company brand and the service they provide, you will quickly see that this branch does not meet the expectations of the other locations. read more
