Wine gardens and food everywhere lining the streets of Madison and the Ohio River! Of course I go for the art but there is one food vendor in particular that I have to visit and it's Miss Piggy's pork chop sandwiches! Without the best I've ever eaten..and the ribs are great too! It was a really hot summer day so I ate lightly and drank heavily! The wine garden had a delicious Sangria that made the heat tolerable, the more you drank the cooler the day ! If you really want a nice piece of original art this is the place! From stained glass, jewelry or Americana you'll find it here. The festival is great and so are the homes that line the roads of old Madison. Excellent preservation at its best! I never miss this event and I assure you if you go you'll return!

There are plenty of entrances, ticket tents, alcohol tents, and food vendors so there are very few lines. There are a lot of portapotties located all over so you don't have to hold it after a day of drinking! And it's a great family friendly venue. Best of all, it's very reasonably priced. This kind of festival could cost in the hundreds in a lot of locations but it's about $20 for weekend admission. And Madison Indiana is a gem on the Ohio River. It's situated about an hour from Louisville, an hour and a half from Cincinnati and two hours from Indianapolis. It's got a vibrant Main Street, lots of great boutiques and fabulous restaurants. Come down for a great weekend!!

It usually has three performers Friday evening and six on Saturday. I have attended the last five years so I feel that I have a good feel for the event. Pros: If you are a blues fan this is one place where you can catch some very top notch talent. Go to the website and see who has been there the past nine years and you will see what I mean. The setting for the music is in a natural amphitheater area rising from the river towards town. Even if you are not a barbecue fan the food is very good with differing themes of barbecue to suit all tastes. The admission price is reasonable, $15.00 for Saturday this year with a $20.00 two day price available if purchased early. You can bring in your own lawn chairs which is good because there is no permanent seating other than picnic tables (this was the first year for them). This is not noted on the website!! Cons: BEWARE the website for this event does not list all of the DO NOT's for this event. If you live a distance from Madison you will not find out until too late what you can bring into the event, or more importantly what you can not bring in. Security almost frisks everyone to make sure you aren't bringing in "outside" food or drink. No umbrellas or canopies which is okay except there is no shade and sitting in the Indiana sun in August is a real killer. No shelter if it rains either. No coolers, pets etc. Several people made reference to this during the event this year. Parking is where you can find it and often that is many blocks away from the event. Some people decide that this is the time and place to yak their heads off to their neighbors who they see every day. I am not talking a quite conversation but load, rude obnoxious behavior that would not be tolerated at any other music event. You have to buy tickets to buy food, drink etc here. If you have extra tickets you basically threw your money away. Except for the music there is no real reason to pay to get into the event, you can get food elsewhere. Bottom line: should you go, yes if you like live blues by talented musicians. The performers are selected to have different flavors of the blues. The bill gives someone the opportunity to see talent they may not have known prior to the event. This is the first place I saw acts I may not have know prior to the event such as: Davina and the Vagabonds, Eden Brent, Reverend Raven, Ronnie Baker Brooks, Deanna Bogart, Big Al and the Heavyweights. If you ever get the chance to see one of these acts do it! I would give it a 3.5 star rating overall and a 5 star rating for the actual music.

We drove 55 minutes up 65 to get to our long anticipated visit to Stream Cliff Farm for our Spring…read moreplant buying and wine tasting and lunch at the tea room. First things first, we (4 of us) put our names on the tea room waiting list. Then we shopped for our gardens. I'd selected the plants I wanted to buy, and then it was time for lunch. Our name was next on the list. We stood waiting for the hostess when a pushy woman and two men climbed onto the porch in front of us. The woman insisted on being seated. The hostess explained that the kitchen was backed up and she couldn't seat them. Said woman loudly insisted that they 'only wanted to sit and they wouldn't be ordering anything'. A manager came out and the old woman tried to establish that a relationship existed with her and the owner. She insisted again that they be seated. They were, and immediately got wine, silverware and menus. All of this in front of us, the party that was standing waiting. At that point we said we were next on the list, but since they had not only been seated, but served before us we would leave without eating and without buying the plants we'd come to purchase. The kicker is that there were MANY seating choices outside in the shade that these people should have been directed to rather than being seated in front of us. And we left - never to return. We didn't even get an "I'm sorry." Addendum, all was not lost. We drove to a new-to-us restaurant in Seymour IN, and had great service and great food for much less than this would have cost! Addendum 2: to the person who responded to this review yesterday, thank you. I can't find your response now, but I appreciate your comments and that you took the time to explain the situation.

Mom & I made our annual trip up to Stream Cliff to get flowers for her garden as well as a little…read morelunch. We went on a Saturday around noon. There were a few parking spaces open and we were able to get one. The resturant seemed pretty busy so we decided to go flower shopping before we ate lunch. We were able to find all the flowers we wanted (even some we didn't know we needed). Within 30minutes the crowd had cleared from the restaurant and we were able to sit down on the porch out front. Our waitress was friendly and tentative. We ordered their fresh ginger lemonade which was so refreshing. We also ordered the trio plate with 1 bird seed salad, 1 potato salad, and 1 chicken salad. The bird seed was my favorite! The restrooms were clean and spacious. The property itself is so beautiful. It is a great place to relax and enjoy sometime outside!

I love maple syrup so a visit was only logical. We visited during the festival's first weekend, 2/27. We loved it! It has all the trappings of any other family friendly festival: food, crafts, play stations, western shows and more food to take home. All of this plus we got to see bow maple trees are tapped. This was a great getaway after the snow and Covid fatigue. I also learned how much I like maple syrup cotton candy, maple marshmellow and how much I need to get more of both!! There is one more weekend left...you need to go! But do mind the mud, per their website. The road can be windy and hilly. The parking lots are full of mud, bring your 4x4 if possible.

This adventure sounded interesting enough for a road trip. Approximately 20 miles north of Louisville off I65 Salem exit and another 15 miles on scenic backroads. (Keep a close eye out for the festival signs and Amish horse drawn wagons) Tip: You will lose your cell signal so make sure to set the GPS before leaving home. This festival is only a twice a year event held on the first & second weekends of March so don't think it's open year round. The farm has over 1600 maple trees! We learned It takes 55 gallons of sap to produce one gallon of syrup!!! So much more interesting facts can be found. The festival was impressive. Sitting on a natural rustic area of the farm. All near the syrup processing center. Along the way was a replica pioneer village theater. The property is Very kid friendly with pony rinds, rotating hand crafted circular swings, rope climbing ladders and hay bale climbing maze and the popular wooden souvenir a branded 6 inch tree bark circle. There are several permanent buildings which were use on this day to complete a undisputed don't miss full production Wild West pioneers reenactment. Many vendors selling true Amish breads candies and as well local wineries by the glass or bottle. Now the food!! Breakfast served all day with Pancakes Waffles Sausage Bacon etc. For lunch there's the Smoky pork bbq of a served several ways Burgers, kettle popcorn and more. Many other venders had hand crafted pottery, specialty chocolates, leather tooled wears, soaps, wood workings just to name a few Folk music sing along by a solo artist Larry Wayt from Richmond Indiana entertained and shared fun story telling music. Kathryn restored a painting that we have owned for more than 50 years and did a wonderful job of…read morerecovering the original painting and its color. The painting has been through a fire and several previous restorations, which left considerable alteration and some damage to the painting. Kathryn successfully removed the accumulated layers covering the art and repaired the few small defects. We are very pleased with the result and highly recommend this talented lady.
