I've been coming here for years and have always loved their frozen custard blasts. They're definitely on the expensive side, but I've always felt they were worth the price because the quality was usually so good. Unfortunately, my experience Saturday night was extremely disappointing. I ordered a coffee custard with peanut butter cups (blast), and it was nothing like what I've come to expect. The coffee custard tasted very artificial, and the peanut butter cups were completely dried out and tasted old. On top of that, mine was mixed way too much and came out more like soup than a custard blast. I ended up throwing the whole thing away. For the price, I expect much better quality and consistency. It's especially disappointing as someone who has been coming here for years and has always been a fan. Hopefully this was just an off night, but Saturday's experience was definitely not worth the money. read more

Wanted a couple milkshakes, got the small size for a strawberry one and chocolate one. Strawberry seemed more flavorful and chocolate one seemed to have a little too much cream/milk. Sadly, I did not save room for a frozen custard, so I guess I must return soon... ;) Today, I ordered the 6 ounce Angus burger, Fries Frenzy (seasoned, breaded fries), and large soft drink. Honestly, this would be my new nomination for best burger in Connecticut. And possibly best french fries, as well. Delicious! It came to $16 and change, which is comparable, given the larger burger. Came in recently with a large group in a Tuesday evening. There was a lot of us, and the service counter got through our orders quickly and food didn't take long either. I had the shrimp burger (very tasty and unique, the Mango salsa was very nice), fries, and a custard. As expected, the custard was super yummy. They were out of chocolate - my go to- so I decided to live on the wild side and get Pina Colada. Would definitely get it again! I LOVEEEE scotties this is not at all a bad review i love their food and their custard. but i decided to branch out from my favorite chocolate base/ any peanut butter custard and got the strawberry cheesecake. the custard will never be disappointing but i didn't taste any cheesecake it tastes just like strawberry icecream. not a complaint but i would not put strawberry cheesecake on the menu if it does not have any cheesecake flavor its just strawberry icecream. i will be sticking to my chocolate based ice cream from scotties read more

It is absolutely the best custard!! I love the sundaes and the vanilla and chocolate custard!! So rich and creamy! I do not care for the other flavors. The other flavors are artificial syrups that they add to the chocolate or vanilla custard and blend to get another flavor (ex coconut, pistachio, blue moon) to me these are so fake. However, I just stick to the original and am never disappointed! We have also tried the hot food. Everything has been very good. Fries and onion rings are not the biggest portions, but that's to be expected. Staff friendliness is hit or miss. read more

Scottie's is a Colchester institution! I've lived in this town a little under 5 years at this point and they were one of the first places I tried. Even though owners changed within the last year or so, the quality of the food/custard is the same if not better! The staff is always so friendly and welcoming, whether the order is placed online or at the window. My family's favorite is their custard. The variety of flavors and toppings is outstanding! Our favorite is the chocolate peanut butter. They always have a new flavor of the day, which is something nice to add to their already delicious roster. Overall, a local institution! read more

Really, really like this seasonal road side stand. I have had Really enjoyed a few chilli dogs there. Recently I was there trying out their home made onion rings. They were made to order. They came out screaming hot! I have had their french fries and they too are made to order. Tried their clam strips and they were just ok. The home made ice cream flavors are very different and are truly their own. Their ice cream flavors are well worth the ride to make this your destination ride. This restaurant is Out on a nice country road. Very generous cones. Very fair prices. Outside seating only, on picinic tables, under a sunblock canopy. Order at the window, pay, they take your name and then call your name on their P.A., when your food is ready. Will go back again. Will definitely recommend it to our friends. read more

This was a hidden gem on our way up back up from the shoreline. We were lucky enough to pass this place and stop for a quick treat. I got a vanilla soft serve with the peanut butter infusion which was delicious! So creamy and smooth, the texture was on point and the ice cream was delicious. The BEST frozen custard! I've went to that chain frozen custard place (Rita's) after being introduced to FC at Scotties and it was embarrassing how bad their product was when compared to Scotties! For years, frozen custard was my father's holy grail. Apparently, in the 50s and 60s, you could buy frozen custard everywhere in the U.S. It was the stuff childhood summers were made of. And then, it disappeared almost everywhere outside of Indiana and Wisconsin. Seriously, I saw a list in Smithsonian Magazine or something when I was a kid that listed the only remaining frozen custard places in America. And then, it came creeping back. My father tried some of the places that showed up in the Northeast and they were pretty good, but not holy grail good. In the meantime, he heard tell of this place called Scotties Frozen Custard in Colchester, which is on the opposite side of CT. About a month ago, I had a cake-tasting appointment in Haddam. My fiance was overseas, so I brought my mom and sister along, and my mom, in turned, dragged my dad along, mostly so he would chauffer us for the hour long drive. We decided to reward him by stopping at Scottie's one the way back--even in the midst of cake-induced sugar high. And Scottie's is good. 1960s childhood good. The real deal! I have been to Milwaukee and this place reminds me of Koop's. The owner is so darn nice, you can sample the frozen custard. I can't wait until I am back in Colchester again. I will bring my mother in law to try it. Because apparently she has no joy in her life. I've driven by here a number of times and last night we finally stopped. Well worth it! We tried a cup of salted caramel custard and it was yum! I don't think the differences are huge, but it's definately creamier than frozen yogurt or regular soft server. They had TONS of flavors! They also have burgers, dogs, sundae's and make their own giant oreo cookie ice cream sandwiches. We'll have to go again to try more items. read more
