But, wanted our son to be old enough to participate with us. We did it together in June! A random Google search and good reviews led us here. Our instructor Joe treated us like family. He took extra care with our son being patient and repetitive until he mastered the safety skills. Katie helped out mama bear with breathing and buoyancy. Hubby was previously certified and did his refresher alongside us. He also picked out our gear like a kid in a candy store. Once underwater he monitored me and pointed out things too see but at the same time let it be my dive, not just me chasing him around. For those of you who are experienced divers he has a style for you also. He gets you to the site, provides you with a safe and friendly experience but lets you do your own thing. You tow a flag and they monitor it. You hit the surface and they pick you up. If you need something he and his crew are there but he doesn't try to smother you.

My brother and I dove with Pura Vida Divers last week, and unfortunately it was one of the worst…read moredive experiences I've had -- and I've dove many times all over the world. Before booking, we were very clear that we were relatively new divers and had never done a drift dive. We specifically expressed that we wanted to feel safe and properly supported. We were assured it would be fine, but once we were in the water, the support simply wasn't there. There was very little help with weights at the start. I quickly realized I was underweighted and had to go back and get more, which immediately separated me from the group. From there, things only got worse. I ended up alone on the reef during a drift -- something that should never happen -- and ultimately had to surface solo and wait for the boat by myself. To make matters worse, my surface marker/flag device wouldn't inflate properly, and I had to be picked up alone. At no point did I feel like anyone from the team was proactively ensuring I was safe or accounted for. Afterward, the only response I received was essentially, "Sorry you had a bad experience." That was the extent of the support. The diving itself may be beautiful, but the staff's lack of attentiveness and concern for client safety and experience was deeply disappointing. When newer divers communicate nervousness and inexperience with drift diving, that should be taken seriously -- not brushed aside. This wasn't about conditions or bad luck. It was about a lack of care and leadership. I would not recommend this operation to newer divers, and I left feeling unsettled rather than excited about the dive.

He told us up front that the visibility was bad yesterday and if it was bad we would be turning around and coming back. I really appreciated that since I want to be able to dive and see the reef, animals, my dive buddy, etc. We were lucky that visibility cleared up and was about 25-30 ft. We dove 2 areas of Breakers. The staff was super friendly and helpful since the seas got a little rough. They made sure we were all ok with moving gear around, not getting sick, offering snacks, etc. Great brefings from the crew. All around a great day of diving even with some rough seas. We felt cared for and safe while we got to enjoy ourselves!
