My brother and I dove with Pura Vida Divers last week, and unfortunately it was one of the worst dive experiences I've had -- and I've dove many times all over the world. Before booking, we were very clear that we were relatively new divers and had never done a drift dive. We specifically expressed that we wanted to feel safe and properly supported. We were assured it would be fine, but once we were in the water, the support simply wasn't there. There was very little help with weights at the start. I quickly realized I was underweighted and had to go back and get more, which immediately separated me from the group. From there, things only got worse. I ended up alone on the reef during a drift -- something that should never happen -- and ultimately had to surface solo and wait for the boat by myself. To make matters worse, my surface marker/flag device wouldn't inflate properly, and I had to be picked up alone. At no point did I feel like anyone from the team was proactively ensuring I was safe or accounted for. Afterward, the only response I received was essentially, "Sorry you had a bad experience." That was the extent of the support. The diving itself may be beautiful, but the staff's lack of attentiveness and concern for client safety and experience was deeply disappointing. When newer divers communicate nervousness and inexperience with drift diving, that should be taken seriously -- not brushed aside. This wasn't about conditions or bad luck. It was about a lack of care and leadership. I would not recommend this operation to newer divers, and I left feeling unsettled rather than excited about the dive. read more

I recently had two terrific dives with Pura Vida. The first was a shallow reef drift dive. The crew was professional and friendly both on the boat and in the water. Communication was excellent during both the booking process and the trip itself. Everything was well organized and clearly taken care of. The dive itself was exceptional, with loggerhead turtles, goliath groupers, lemon sharks, and bull sharks all making appearances. The next day I booked a guided night dive at Blue Heron Bridge with Ethan. Once again, the communication was top-notch. Ethan was a fantastic guide, expertly taking us to several micro-environments and pointing out an incredible variety of critters--many of which I had never seen before, even though I had visited the bridge a couple of times previously. read more

What an awesome shop. I live in Miami so don't get to dive with these guys very often, but I'm always impressed when I stop by. Weather was not our friend during my last trip to Palm Beach, but they worked hard to accommodate us for a private guided dive under Blue Heron Bridge - hardly a compromise as it's one of my favorite sites in South Florida. The couple who owns the shop and their staff are so friendly and are highly focused on customer service. As a tec diver, I also appreciate their fill station, which has lots of Nitrox and Trimix options. Bonus is that they charge by volume, so you're never paying for a full tank fill if you're just trying to top off after a dive. Of course they have dive boat options, but they should be everyone's default choice for any diving at Blue Heron Bridge given their location right next to it. Great options for group dives, private dives, tank rentals, etc. read more

We were lucky enough to be paired up with Dave who was so patient and understanding with our daughter and with the storm the others in the class cancelled so we lucked out with a one on one instruction. Joined this outfitter for the blackwater dive (night dive 7-11pm). The dive was definitely a unique experience. We had trouble managing our buoyancy and that was our fault, but it did take away from our ability to share what there is to see. We did see a few interesting creatures like a jellyfish which look beautifully very different with a flashlight than day light. The crew was friendly and helpful and kept us safe. The only issue i was disappointed; we rented equipment from them and we drove an hour for this trip. We had to return the equipment the next day because the shop was close after 6pm, which meant an extra one hour trip back. I would have preferred if we could have left the equipment with the crew at the end of the dive. read more

We came down for a weekend dive trip and scheduled morning drift dives. I will say they were great with cancelling my afternoon dive when I asked 3 days prior and refunded me the full amount. That same day our morning dive was cancelled due to weather and they called right at 7am and I got the refund minutes later. The next day, conditions weren't any better but they did not cancel the trip. I really think they should have. The visibility was about 15ft, ripping currents, which we were doing drift diving so that's not a biggie. The visibility was miserable though for both dives. People in our group were getting seasick because of the surf, which btw there was a small craft advisory out. I'd like to try diving with them on a normal day when you can actually enjoy the dives. They have a plethora of snacks and drinks and they have shampoo and stuff on board for the divers to use. That was great. One thing To note they are insistent that the dive guide is not responsible for any of the divers. Luckily I'm a more experienced diver, but I'd say if you're new, dive with a good dove buddy and be prepared for drift diving & know how to use your surface buoy if you were to need it. You need to pay attention to your own air and status (which you should anyway) but they will not coddle you. The marina is nice. There are bathrooms and outdoor showers with hot water. Lots of parking available. read more

My partner and I did the Heron Bridge daytime and night dives with Pura Vida on New Year's day - it was the perfect way to start the year! We were guided by Mark and he was an amazing divemaster and guide. He led at the perfect pace (giving us enough time to stop by each coral structure to peek into holes) and was very attentive and focused on safety & fun. There was no rush to get into the water which gave everyone adequate time to double check all our gear and after walking into the water, we did a safety check which was a great opportunity to review and check gear before doing the dive (this was one of the only shops I've dove with that have done this intentional group safety check which showed how much they prioritize safety). Pura Vida Divers will definitely be the dive shop we book all future Palm Beach area dives through! read more

Great dive shop with very knowledgeable and friendly staff members in the shop and on the boat. We did two awesome dives - teardrop and the trench. The dive pros did a great job of showing us around, pointing out marine life, and supporting all of the divers of varying experience. I rented all of my equipment and everything was in great shape. My only warning is that they don't offer transportation from the dive shop to the boat and back. If you're from out of town and didn't rent a car like me, this was a small inconvenience and expense to get to the dive shop, to the boat, back to the dive shop, then back to my hotel. I was not happy with PVD. Their refresher course and beach dive was fine, but it was downhill from there. I rented a BC, regulator, fins, weights and a gear bag. The BC fell apart on the first day (belt came off) and the gear bag, which gets heavy, had no shoulder strap. I was surprised to hear they had no straps because they didn't want to bother with them. The hoses on the regulator had visible cracks. The young staff were friendly and had good email communication, but were very inexperienced as dive guides. When I asked about a wreck we dove, the guide had no clue what the boat was and when it sank. Pretty basic information given on all of the many wreck dives I've done. There was only one guide per boat on the two days we went out, and they made no effort to show us anything at all, or to stay with us. The larger boat on the first day was filled to capacity, but everyone had a spot to sit by their tank and prepare the gear. This was not so on the smaller boat on the second day, which we felt was dangerously overcrowded. People were packed in like rush hour subway riders and had to shuffle places to take turns gearing up. We felt the overcrowding and insufficient staffing was unsafe, and went directly to the shop to cancel the next day's dive. They told us they wouldn't charge us if they could fill our spots, which seemed ludicrous given the sardine can overcrowding they do. They charged us anyway. I contested it with Amex. Looking forward to their response. The water was chilly enough that I wanted a vest or thin top for s little extra warmth, but not the full wetsuits they rent. So I checked their retail area, and was surprised to see a light top for $199. I found two shops nearby that sold them for $50-65. Poorly maintained rental gear, overpriced merchandise, oblivious guides and dangerous overcrowding are not positives for a dive operation. read more

Nice people. Be careful getting work done, they are a little misleading. I took my dive computer in for a battery change. They quoted me a price. I got a call saying it was ready for pickup. So I got there today and there were additional charges. The most annoying was the charge for the battery. Hum. If I take my car in for new tires I get a quoted price. When I pick it up they don't charge extra for the tires, that's sort or assumed to be included. Seems like a battery change falls into that category. There were also additional charges for the O-ring and for the back cover. Problem, no communication. This should NOT have been a surprised. I never approved anything but a battery change and even commented that the quoted price what such that "why would I do this myself". I complained, said this is not good service. All I got was an I'm sorry. No offer for a reduction. Pura Vida's bad service costs me. Well it cost them in the sense they lost a customer. Bottom line, and I hope Pura Vida reads this. If you use them ask for full disclosure. I'd go across the bridge to other dive shops. read more

Great crew of folks. Very personable and knowledgeable. I actually met the store owner, Adam, and some of the crew at a bar (social distanced of course ), and decided to book a few dives. Sarah W in particular was exceptional. She was very knowledgeable and clearly passionate about what she does. She was quick to provide a helping hand and provide helpful pointers as it's been awhile since I've dove. I cannot emphasize how awesome she was. Everyone else on the boat was fantastic as well but just wanted to call her out as she definitely went above and beyond to help me feel comfortable and confident. I had a great experience and although I didn't see a shark, I did see some fantastic marine life and enjoyed refreshing on my skills. Maybe that means I just have to go back to see a shark finally which is on my bucket list. read more

Absolutely FANTASTIC time with Pura Vida Divers! My family of non-divers and I stayed a week on Singer Island and I booked a guided night dive in advance, along with a Discover Scuba class for my mom. We also rented snorkel equipment throughout the week. I had never dove the Blue Heron Bridge or done the snorkel trail and was really, really excited. The night dive at Blue Heron Bridge was AMAZING. Rick was my guide. He communicated wonderfully in advance, telling me where he'd be at what time, answering all of my questions, and provided a full "orientation" (where we'd go, what to expect, etc.) before the dive. He was able to point out tons of octopus, flounder, batfish, etc. that I might have missed. He took a few pictures, too, so that when my GoPro acted up, he was able to send me some. I was blown away by this dive! The next morning, I rented equipment to accompany my mom at her Discover Scuba class at Phil Foster Park. Jenna was the instructor, and she was excellent: positive, encouraging, answering questions beautifully, and stuck to my mom's side the entire time. The dive was short, of course, but it left my mom (who, before, was pretty sure she wouldn't enjoy it) with the drive to try it again to work on her buoyancy. We visited the stop throughout the week to rent/return equipment, and interacted with a couple of employees there, including Lawrence and Julie. The friendliness of this staff is unmatched. I signed up for an Advanced Open Water course while in my vacation from Michigan. I had my first dives today under Blue Heron Bridge and it was great thus far. Leading up to the dives the communication with the shop staff was top notch. They have made me feel very safe and secure and educated along the way. I will say in my opinion all of the liability forms are a little much and much more than I am used to dealing with when not in the USA or in the Caribbean. I guess that's just the US legal system for you. Equipment rental was nice and pretty new and in good working order. Wetsuit BARE brand was one of the most comfortable I have used in a long time. Even though the water was warm you should take a wetsuit as there is lots of coral and the currents could drift you into the bridge and the coral / barnacles. More wildlife than I would have thought. Saw two huge rays swimming side by side and tons of fish. A very shallow easy dive! The instructor Ani B was fantastic! Very knowledgeable and supportive but made me do the work and show my skills and work on them. One note IF TOU PUT YES ON ANYTHING ON THE MEDICAL FORM GET A DOCTORS NOTE BEFORE YOU COME!!! Joined Pura Vida for a 60ft reef drift dive. I felt very comfortable with their equipment and expertise. We saw lots of fish, an eel, and even a Lemon Shark. We took a "refresher" course with Paul and were very pleased with our experience (would definitely give him a 10/10). I do wish they were more flexible with their equipment rental timing. They rent most equipment for 24hrs and even if you are able to bring it back in 25hrs they will charge for a whole extra day, just something to be aware of but not a huge deal. Looking forward to diving with them again in the future. read more

Just returned home from a week of diving in Riviera Beach. Got 10 dives in with Pura Vida. AN amazing company from calling in the reservations to the captains driving the boat to the dive sites. They know the waters and are extremely adept at working the best sites based off the experience levels of most of the divers. The boat is the best I've been on in my 4 years of diving. The staff is wonderful and knowledgeable! Julie goes above and beyond when working in the store. Jason is great out on the ocean. Gave us one of our best days of diving ever. Amber. Can't say enough about Amber. Everybody wanted to dive with Amber. She was our guide 4 of the 5 days and is the best guide we've had in all of our trips. We heard other people on the boat asking for her to dive with them next or they would even book another trip if Amber would promise to be their guide. i recently completed my open water certification with Pura Vida divers and I couldn't be happier with them. they were kind, accommodating, and very knowledgeable. The course had to be rescheduled due to weather and illness, but they were entirely flexible and understanding. The crew on the boat on the last day was perfect. I don't think there is enough room here to write all the praise I have for Pura Vida Divers, it could almost be a book! From the dive shop on land to the dive boat out there dropping you in the beautiful waters of South Florida, you're in great hands. The boat is clean, very clean, the crew is professional, and the entire operation as a whole is superb. The crew on the boat are entirely safety oriented and can handle any situation which arises with a smooth sense of professional urgency. Before the boat leaves they take roll call, after the first dive, roll call again. After the last dive, you guessed it, roll call. Why do I bring this up? Well, wait until you're on a boat with an operator who doesn't do roll call after a dive, things can get interesting. Finally, for the boat, we love their Christmas tree ladders, we get to keep our fins on and waddle like a penguin. The best thing about it all, they position the ladders so well with the boat when its time to pick you up that its only a short swim to them. Once back from a dive they offer you cold drinks and snacks from their snack attack bin (they don't call it a snack attack bin, my wife and I do). Do you yak on boats when the water is rough, or just yak because you're on the water? Don't be embarrassed, I've yakked all over the side of their boat seconds before a dive (sorry, Dean), you'll only ever be judged on is distance and color of your yak. The dive shop is well equipped, if they don't have it, they can get it for you. Need something fixed? They got you covered. The shop manager, Justin, has got to be the smartest person I've ever met and my wife and I trust him blindly with our gear and our lives, since we're also taking our technical diver training through Pura Vida with Justin. If you're looking for the gold standard of dive operators, then Pura Vida is it. Once you dive with them you'll hold all other boats to the same standard, and very few even come close. I have logged almost all of my first 100 dives with them and I never once had fears for my safety because they're on their game, 100% of the time. read more

I am not one to write reviews often whether they are good or bad, but this shops deserves one. I've been diving with this shop since I got my Open water certification and they have been nothing, but great! They are always willing to help and explain something if I don't understand. Their boat guides are awesome and very helpful!! They will point out cool things that you usually wouldn't see and give a little explanation about the dive. I enjoy going on their charters and their refreshments are great. I've had the opportunity to get the majority of my certifications with this shop and Jilian my instructor is beyond knowledgeable, patient, comprehensive, and will such a great instructor. If you are planning to get any certifications make sure to ask for her. I have nothing negative to say about this shop! If you are in the area and are looking for a shop this is the one! Safest dive operation I know. They won't run a charter if conditions are dangerous, and I appreciate they put safety above profit. They may charge a little more but pay their staff fair wages, and as a result - they have some of the highest quality dive staff who stay for years. What an experience! We came down to FL from Michigan to learn how to scuba from the best. A friend recommended we ask specifically for Dave Perkins and boy am I glad we were taught by Dave! He is so knowledgeable about scuba, he doesn't cut a single corner, and even when we had to get our last dives in on a low vis day (we were in a time crunch due to our travel plans) Dave still found a way to make it fun for us! We had such a blast learning how to scuba! Dave made us feel so safe under the water, taught us the skills and gave us confidence to be safe on our own, and was so patient with our learning. The mask clearing drills were a little tough for me. I had to take a moment to prepare myself to do it as I was learning and he was so patient and encouraging, even under water! We noticed some other novice divers who were learning around us, that were apparently qualified at the same stage as us with other companies and it was very apparent that their instructors had not taken the same amount of care that ours had. I feel so equipped to scuba on my own. I loved every minute of learning with Dave. I will absolutely be back to go on guided dives with him. Pura Vida is also right next to the Blue Heron Bridge, which has some of the most brilliant diving in all of south Florida. This is THE dive resort to go to in FL, and Dave Perkins is THE guy to learn from. read more

I am very happy with this dive shop and their dive charter Sirena. We did a two tank dive with them recently and dove the sites: Shark Alley and MidReef. Boat is well laid out, and the crew is great. Captain seems to really know his stuff too, always a good thing! Skies were a bit gray, and we ended up seeing lightning in the distance... but still managed to get the dives in safely. Saw lots of cool critters, and had a great time. Crew was very helpful with gear and tanks, very safety focused during the dives... and friendly. and willing make suggestions to make it better for everyone. During a recent trip to West Palm, my daughter realized her sandals were damaged and she needed new ones. The first place we went had nothing so we decided to try Pura Vida Divers hoping there was SOMETHING there for her. Wow, what a great little shop. The girls working the register greeted us pleasantly and since the place was kind of empty she came over to give us a hand. Since it was November they weren't stocked like they might have been in the warmer months, but she was able to help my daughter find what she wanted in her size. Place is really nice and they sell quality stuff. If you need it at the beach, they have it here - sandals, bathing suits, clothing, etc. One thing I really liked was that for each purchase of footwear they donate a pair of sandals to a charity. Very cool...and from what I've read in other reviews they do a great job with their dives as well. Glad we stopped in here! read more

Decided to traverse the state of Florida to try some Atlantic coast diving. Having known Pura Vida through reputation, we contacted them straight away. We chose a weekend where they were doing a guided night dive of the Blue Heron Bridge as we hadn't been there before. Very well organized, they got two groups of divers into the water and took us around the site. I must say given it was a Friday night, everyone and their uncle were diving... so the visibility wasn't that great. But we got the lay of the land and now are comfortable to do it on our own next time. We booked two boat dives with them. We unloaded our gear from the car and they take care of the rest. So nice not to have to worry about lugging tanks! Dive masters gave great safety instructions as well as briefings of the sites. They make sure the guides are seen in lower visibility so that they are easy to spot. Captains and dive masters are all friendly, knowledgeable and passionate about the sea. We would definitely dive with them again! read more

I've never been to FL, never had any intention of going--I was actually heading to Puerto Rico for two weeks of diving until I read a Dive Training magazine that mentioned the Blue Heron Bridge. After researching dive shops, I picked PVD, and am glad that I did! I dove with them for two weeks, on several shore dives, boat dives and a night dive, along with a digital photography class and a nitrox class. The experience was amazing. PVD even recommended an awesome inexpensive resort in walking distance from the shop! All the instructors were very professional, considerate, and would drop whatever they were doing to help out customers. They were all very knowledgeable on timing, tides, dive theory, fish and critter species, and local laws. I was impressed with Ryan, who was my dive guide, along with my instructor for nitrox and underwater photography. Ryan's very down to earth, amiable, patient, and wouldn't hesitate to explain concepts I didn't grasp the first time around...or second...or third... He was also very knowledgeable about the site, and knew all the good hiding places for a panoply of scorpionfish, octopi, sea horses, and other animals that I should've kept track of the names of! Much appreciated. Katie, Dean and Brian were excellent guides, taking us on amazing boat dives in sites teeming with reef sharks, gigantic turtles, and goliath groupers. Dive shop staff were very kind, patient and bent over backwards to ensure that I would enjoy my time. Many thanks to Jeffrey, Andrea, Neil, Jeff, Allegra, Lindsay, and especially to Shana! My family has used this shop for years when we dive in palm beach, and the guided dive was fantasic!! I have tried to dive the bridge without a guide, and this time we saw so much sea life!! However, our experience in the shop was not very well. My rented BC malfunctioned, and they did not rent flashlights so we had to pay 50+ per light. The male employee was talking down to me and my sister the whole time (and not my father nor the other boys in the shop). "Do you know how to use a BC", "this is where the weights go". I'm sure he was being polite and did not realize he was being condescending, but it might be a good idea for the male workers to reevaluate how they talk to women. read more

Met with instructor Julie. Learned how to use the vest and weight belt and put on and adjust mask and snorkel correctly. She then taught me how to skin dive. She was so knowledgeable about all kinds of diving as well as the layout of the Blue Heron Bridge. I learned so much from her. She was patient and encouraging as well. Loved the shop and bought the appropriate weight belt for me. Most of all though, I had fun and can't wait to go again and practice. My next class will be scuba and with Julie. read more

Great team that ensures your safety and well being during the trip! Before I boarded I made sure Captain Zach knew I was a newbie. He and the team did their best job to make me feel comfortable but unfortunately I ended up feeling more like a thorn because of my level of inexperience compared to the 11 other people who had done hundreds of dives. It was awkward yet very serious. The dives were pretty good. 2 tank dive to reefs that were 50-60 feet deep. We saw an array of groupers, moray eels, tropical fish, and even a sea turtle! There was one guide for all 12 of us and lots of freedom for those more experienced. It took me much longer than the experienced divers to equalize my ears so I descended alone and followed the drift line. The boat was nice, felt a little cramped, but they had water and snacks. Remember to bring sunblock, towel, and your camera! Renting gear costs $60 (BCD, regulator, wetsuit, computer) and it's possible you might get a dud computer... 2 tank dive costs $75 and adding on the taxes and fees of $17, it's a pretty expensive dive. The gear was in okay condition though save for the dud dive computer and they make sure you're happy with it the wetsuit and BCD/regulator before you lug it to your car to the boat. After your dive you lug all the gear back to the shop, rinse it off in their bath of green water right outside the shop and hang everything up. There's parking available at the dive shop and the marina. read more

We were going to be visiting from out-of-state and knew we wanted to get a shore dive in while we were in town. Not knowing the area, we messaged a couple of shops and Pura Vida was the only shop to respond. From before we arrived, the service was top notch, they were friendly and answered all of our questions quickly. My boyfriend Ross and I took an unexpected road trip to Florida, we called on Saturday and they signed me up for Monday to get certified and him a refresher course. Stephen my instructor was great! Personable put together and professional. He was always right behind me while diving and made it super comfortable! I had an amazing experience I will never forget and I would definitely recommend him! The blue Herron bridge was an amazing first dive location, so many beautiful fish to see. The boat dive was a little overwhelming because there is a lot going on while on it, Ross who is experienced agreed with me on that as well, but once in the water the drift dive is pretty incredible too of course. They have a nice air conditioned shop & nice gear. Would def recommend over all! They can get you in quick and everyone working in the shop was fun! read more
