The service was referred by American Home Shield only to learn that AHS does not cover the commode. The plumber looked at the problem and told me the leak was though a faulty plug and that the unit would need to be replaced. He replaced it and yet the tank did not sit at a 90 degree angle, I told him and he said it was a mfr. defect. I paid SDL directly for the installation of a new unit. I contacted the mfr and they said the unit was not placed properly; they authorized a replacement. The original unit is with SDL. I called to arrange a time with SDL for them to do exchange and was told I had to pay for the time. I questioned if they warranty their work and was given a yes and no answer. I really do NOT like leaving negative reviews; however, this company has some questionable business practices. I'd used my home warranty company to address a leaking water heater, and SDL was sent to diagnose the problem. The Tech said he couldn't manage the repair because I would need to hire another contractor to build him a wider walkway. When I asked why this was necessary and who I should call, he didn't have an answer. I called my home warranty company after he left and explained that I paid a $100 copay for essentially nothing. They couldn't understand why a larger platform would be needed, and if I wanted to proceed, I would have to come out of pocket another $560 because that was the "out of pocket cost" from SDL. I thankfully requested a cash buyout for the water heater from my home warranty and called my usual plumber. My plumber is installing the replacement for $120 more than the buyout. I cannot confirm if the work they do is good or not, but the shady pricing was enough of a reason for me to stop. After reading their reviews, I made the right decision for me. read more

Had a stoppage in our pipes. American Home Shield sent out SDL and the tech, Lonnie, was at our home less than 10 minutes, said he couldn't locate the "CO valve" and recommended a $500, 2 man crew, to cut into the roof to clear the stoppage. Not only was I able to Google where to find the CO valve and locate it in less than 5 minutes, but my house has a metal washer nailed to the bricks (near the front door), indicating where the valve is. AHS wouldn't send out a second opinion plumber until the 1st opinion was closed out. When I spoke to Amy she informed me that they didn't want the plumbers wasting their time doing paperwork so it wouldn't be turned in until end of day. When I mentioned that Lonnie didn't attempt to locate the valve she replied, "It's not their job to locate the valve!" So if that's not his job, then what is?!??!! NEVER EVER use this company!! For the record, the 2nd opinion plumbers came out and cleared it in less than 20 minutes. read more

First, as before when they came out, said work wasn't covered by warranty due to having to access pipe from roof. Ok, that turns out to be true. However, then proceeds to quote me 2 men, 1 hr, $489. That's ridiculous. Called Team Enoch, dispatched next day, $35 call out, $125 for 1hr work (2 employees came)- $160 total. The tech writes up a BS report stating "excessive force caused damage" but then don't tell the homeowner this is what they are reporting to AHS. Had sediment seaping thru shower drain, smelled really bad. 4 days later and about 900.00 poorer, they still hadn't fixed something as simple as that. They ran equipment down roof vents and had to use camera which was very expensive. After 4 days of not being able to use toilet and shower, they were going to charge me 2,100.00 do do more repair around clean out in front yard. My wife and I had enough and called Benjamin Franklin plumbing. Guy came out that same day and in 1 hr, he had toilet and shower fixed and working. They showed up, flushed toilet a few times, told me it was not covered and left an estimate for $636 for a crew to come and fix it. No snake, no light, no camera, no testing or trying to fix. My water heater was leaking so I filed a claim with my home warranty, American Home Shield, and they assigned SDL Plumbing to my claim. I am extremely frustrated with how the experience played out. Not only did the SDL technicians ruin two of my towels (they credited me a whopping $25) and leave my home in a completely unacceptable state after completing the install (before hauling it away, they left the old water heater in my condo hallway and it leaked water all over the floor which they did not clean up), but as it turns out, they also did a poor job on the install itself. We lost hot water less than a week later. When SDL sent a technician out to look at the water heater, he was here for a total of about 10 minutes, told us it was likely an issue with our electrical panel because he had "checked everything with the water heater and it was fine". So, we had an electrician come out to take a look at our panel the following Monday morning who confirmed the panel was working perfectly, and that the issue was with the installation of the water heater electrical connection. The cap was burnt out (see photo) due to the bad connection between the wires when the water heater was installed. Fortunately, the electrician was able and willing to fix the issue, but it was so frustrating because the SDL technician who came out the previous Friday could have easily solved the problem if he had actually checked the water heater electrical connection instead of just saying he did. We were forced to go the weekend without hot water for something SDL could have fixed the previous Friday. On top of everything else, we also had a leak at one of the pipe connections that had to be fixed with a FIFTH visit. After all of this, did SDL take any accountability for their mistakes, apologize for the extreme inconvenience or offer any kind of reimbursement for my time? AHS allowed me to do an outside contractor, then reassigned to these guys for a second opinion. When they finally got out a week later they wanted an extra $1000 for "code violations and modifications". On Feb 14th they called to say they had the parts and would be out on Feb 15th. They came out today, Feb 15th and had to stop because they had the wrong parts. We've had a couple good results with American Home Shield's plumbers in the past. This time they dispatched SDL. I'd give them 0 stars - they are liars and lied through their teeth. They caused a rift between me and my tenant. The shower valves in my rental house got problems. Bryan came and after looking and talking to my tenant, told AHS that the problem was caused by my tenant using excessive force to shut the shower off. Because of this "excessive force" which he reported to AHS, AHS didn't cover it. He said two showers had the same exact problems. One bathroom having problem - yeah, it could happen. But two showers having problems? Had to be user errors. We had a recording of our conversation with the technician. Quoted me $780 total to fix it plus the $75 service fee. Trusting him and his questionable Google reviews, I asked my tenants to foot the bill, making him upset. In the end, we decided to call a second plumber who came, did repair and replaced shower cartridge in 30 min and cost less than $200. What caused the problem? Calcite built up. In some cities, this is common problem because of hard water. In other cities which water quality is better, this doesn't happen much. I am cancelling my AHS service contract. read more

SDL was sent out by American Home Shield for a slab leak. Our tech spent 5 minutes in the house diagnosing the leak. He put his ear to the ground, pointed to a spot and said "your leak is right here because I hear water hitting the concrete." He didn't even do a locate. Then he said that our claim was denied due to "shifting soil." He immediately said they were going to have to tunnel under the house and it would be $10,500. To recap, no locate was done, he made up a spot where the leak was, he did not provide us all of our options to repair the leak (except the most expensive one and still over charged), denied our claim due to a made up reason which was impossible to confirm, and then left us with a ridiculous quote. Just so anyone who reads this is aware, the techs with these companies contracted by home warranties make $30 a visit but they make SO MUCH MORE when they can deny a claim and get the business from you directly. That is the MO behind every call they get from American Home Shield. We had a previous issue denied with our hot water heater because there was no sediment trap on it. Turns out there is a sediment trap and they just tried to bamboozle us for $800 thinking we would never ask. Plain and simple, these guys suck. Josh, the technician, showed up to our house the next day and had "none of the tools" to even begin to fix my leak. Josh told me how American Home Shield was the worst home warranty company and how I should cancel my contract. He also told me about a customer that made him upset, so Josh charged the customer DOUBLE! Josh stood in our house talking to us for over an hour. He wanted to charge me $4950 to dig a hole under my house, $300 to locate the leak, and another amount for the repair, a band-aid repair. Meanwhile, I have a leaking pipe in my house. He said I would have to get on the schedule for him to come back to locate the leak. I did not receive a phone call from SDL until the following Tuesday to get on their schedule. Gary was very combative. From almost the moment he walked in he was curt, argumentative, and periodically raised his voice at me.(*1) I can only assume he doesn't like doing home warranty work, because his hostility was in place immediately. When I attempted to run through the list of problems, he kept trying to pick a fight with me over each item -- over whether there actually *Was* a problem or not, and over whether the warranty would cover said repair.(*2) I'm not sure why he was so determined to fight over the matter. He's not the one to determine what is and isn't covered, and neither am I. So when his job was simply to diagnose the issues and write up a report, why did he need to fight with me? At no point would I argue back. I hate conflict. He was also very rushed and brusque when I directed his attention to each item and demonstrated the problem. More than once I had to call him back and politely ask him, again, to watch as I demonstrated the issue. All he would do otherwise was take a quick glance, declare that he didn't see anything wrong, or it wouldn't be covered, and then walk off without bothering to examine the problem. Gary trivialized all of my plumbing issues, raced aggressively through every evaluation, wrote up an incomplete report that further minimized each item, and treated the whole job like he was at war with me. He clearly didn't want to be here, and he made the whole experience upsetting and miserable. Apparently he doesn't look at these little home warranty jobs as a way to network and expand his client base. I've got a separate, huge plumbing issue for which I need to hire a plumber, but I won't be calling him for a bid. Footnotes: (*1): He didn't actually apologize for raising his voice, but he did acknowledge that it was an accidental habit, complicated by hearing loss, and not intentionally directed at me. (*2): Part of the problem was the warranty company's error. The rest was how Gary responded to their error. The warranty company's work order had been split into two. Gary's half of the work order only mentioned one problem, and didn't even list it properly. When I called the warranty customer service (while Gary was present), they acknowledged their error and asked him to include in his report an assessment of all the other problems, as they would dispatch him again later to cover those problems. The company was sent by American Home Shield and the plumber that SDL sent was so bad and couldn't even find, much less remove, the cleanout line...I had to show him where it was. He needed to pry the cap off, which he did not do, because he wanted to charge $292.00 to cut if off because it was rusted and hard to remove. My tankless hot water heater was leaking (almost a steady stream) of water - about 18 gallons of water per day - out the condensation line to outside my garage. Continually, day after day for months and months - whether the unit is in use or not. It keeps getting worse and worse, and causes a never-ending puddle outside my garage - which even has algae now, because it never dries up (even in this Texas heat and dry Summer). SDL's fix - re-direct the condensation line to tap into the A/C drain line, so I won't see it. Not fix why it is leaking, they want to hide the leaking water so I don't see it. So my unit will continue to waste 18 gallons a day - thousands of gallons a year. I understand what the condensation line is, and what it is for. Should water drip out, sure, occasionally, and some. It is coming out at a constant 1 cup every 5 minutes, around the clock. I would think plumbers would be more concerned about wasted water then they are at SDL Plumbing. It is not just the guy sent to my house. He said he called another tech and his supervisor, then came back with the "fix" to hide the water. I had to use this company based on my Home Warranty. I read the reviews and panicked, but didn't have a choice. So here we go! They came fast enough, had a cancellation. Did a walk through and Zach was friendly and so was his assistant. They could quickly assess they didn't have the proper equipment with them (camera for lines), and they would have to call and get approval to use a camera. So I waited for 1.5 hours for them to get the approval. Approval received, but they would need to go back and get the camera. I told them I was home all day so no worries. They took off. Came back two days later with a camera that he said was "their oldest one" it was a huge beast compared to the other company (that I hired privately to assess the problem). After an hour of looking he told me he could see no leak and the lines were "clear". So there wasn't anything to repair. Well, I had seen with my own eyes, on the other companies camera that there was a crack running through the top of the pipe. I don't know how he couldn't see it. It failed a pressure test from two previous plumbers, yet Zach didn't do one. He said he would go back to the office and see what they needed to do next. I waited a few days and never heard back from him, so I called on Thursday to my home warranty and was told that Zach reported that no leak could be found so the case was closed. I told them the leak still existed (two previous plumbers identified it). So they said they would reopen the case and send them back. I waited til Monday after Easter weekend, to call SDL back and the receptionist was abrupt and said her service manager told her that I would have to speak with my Home Warranty people. (Pass the buck). She could see that "no leak was found", but I said I know it's there! So why did you stop looking? She just kept saying I'd have to call my home warranty. She was rude, and dismissive. Almost a week and a half later, and no change in my leak. I agree this is also a communication problem with my Home Warranty, but I don't understand how two other pluming companies can tell me I have a leak, one can show me where it is on the camera. After our water heater was installed. We scheduled the city inspector for Friday July 16, in which I took time off and was available at home. However, Amy scheduled it for Monday July 26 and I was not home. Amy calls and leaves a message to reschedule. So I call her back and asked what happened on Friday. Then she gets loud and says well you weren't there. I said I was home and waited. She continued to argue and said inspector showed up, you weren't home. I checked my cameras, he did show up 10 days later. So Amy rescheduled me, but her customer service, attitude, problem-solving, and courteous should be reviewed. He turned the water on upstairs for a minute, then went to his car for 30 minutes without explaining what he was doing or where he was going. When he finally came back in he told me we needed to hire someone else to remove our bathroom mirror and repair the holes in the walls they would have to make to repair the upstairs bathroom. He said we need a "clean out" and he couldn't make repairs through the attic and would have to charge us $550. We felt weird about his recommendations and got a second opinion from Roto Rooter. The guy who came out went right into the attic, repaired the clog, all for $194. I asked if a clean out was needed and they told me no. That a clean out wouldn't really help with the problem we were having. Our sink was leaking. American Home Shield sent SDL out. We couldnt afford their qoute since it was not covered under the warranty. A week or so later our water heater wasn't circulating hot water. Called AHS. They sent out SDL plumbing again. SDL came out and for their report but this time the technician said we were a commercial property not a residence. AHS denied the claim. When I contacted SDL to correct the mistake SDL said they would not. Their reasoning was that because I watched children in my home and used a website to advertise my services that made my home a commercial property. AHS had to send someone else out for a second opinion to confirm my home was a home not a commercial property. Do not use SDL. read more
