We transferred both mom and dad over 3 years ago. He was already on hospice and she was just ready for assisted living. Thus, they moved into 2 separate rooms as we knew he would predecease her soon. What a breath of fresh air! Caring, professional, long-term management and staff. Beautiful and spotless facility inside and out. Wonderful activities and special events. Amazing dining experience. My dad boasted to friends and family that he felt like he was at home. He loved to sit by the fireplace and read. Mom loved bingo and scrabble with friends. And, when each of my parents health began to fail, Aegis was quick to recommend extra care and eventually hospice, letting them live out their life and die peacefully.

People tend to think that assisted living is for people who are ill. She is 96 and the upkeep on her home was just getting to be too difficult. Aegis provided relief from that but more importantly has given her fun activities and new friends. The staff there is wonderful, friendly and can help if health issues do arise. They communicate consistently, provide a welcoming and pleasant environment, and have many daily activities and weekly outings. There are separate areas for memory care patients and assisted living, and the grounds and rooms are really lovely, I'm writing this because if you have an elderly loved one considering a move such as this, I wouldn't hesitate to have them move here. The socialization is a huge thing and I think her days are much happier than when she was living alone, even if she doesn't need much assistance at this time. Was definitely the right move and better sooner than later. Thanks to all the staff at Aegis for providing a great "home" for our seniors.

We had to quickly find a place for her to live, and it had to be the best. We cannot say enough regarding the care and quality of life she received. Mega and Nixon, her caretakers, treated her like she was their own grandmother. She felt like she was still in her own home. The disease quickly progressed and my Mother passed away peacefully, in a place that respected her dignity. Thank you Heather, for carrying our family through a most difficult time. We are forever grateful.

As she grew older, Norma, our mother/mother-in-law requested that she move to a "retirement" home…read more She was widowed, eighty years old and had grown tired of life alone. She was no longer able to manage the single residence home she owned and she needed assistance with necessary survival chores. With our support, we visited numerous "high-end" options, ranging in cost from $10,000 to $12,000 a month. Norma cycled through several of these very expensive options so we have a very good "database" to make comparisons. In one "high end" residence she was left unattended in the shower. She fell and broke her back. In the next residence her jewelry was stolen including her wedding ring. The third residence was in constant flux, with staff turnover confusing and disrupting. Her fourth luxury residence offered great programs but the large facility was severely understaffed and the staff often complained to us that they could not do their work. That meant Norma was often left alone without the periodic checks (that she paid for) and no one able to escort her to any of the activities. All of this got worse as Norma transitioned into her nineties, she became increasingly frail. At the same time, despite marketing promises, the "rent" continued to increase, dangerously depleting resources. We sought alternatives. We had avoided board and care facilities because of the rumors that they provided insufficient and unprofessional care. We were referred to Harbor Care Homes as the best facility in Southern Orange County. We contacted the owners, Scott and Ryan to visit. They have six homes, all relatively close to each other. Scott and Ryan also live in the area of their homes. We visited two Harbor Care Homes where there was a vacancy. The homes were spotless. We couldn't find any dust. (One of our concerns in the "luxury" facilities was the very poor housekeeping). That was certainly not the case with the Harbor home. Scott and Ryan made a very impressive presentation that indicated they were very knowledgeable about aging and with needs and concerns of families. This was not a sales presentation but an impressive display of their professionalism. As we toured the two facilities, it was apparent that Scott and Ryan knew all the residents and had a comfortable relationship with staff. This disconfirmed the rumors we had heard about board and care homes. We mentioned the homes were spotless, they also were very well landscaped and fit seamlessly into the neighborhood. We moved Norma into Harbor Care. She never seemed happier. The staff was physically available 24 hours/day. They were kind and loving. We visited often and always were impressed by the open and welcoming attitude of the caregivers. Norma had social contact during most waking hours which was very important and in stark contrast to the isolation in the luxury facilities. Not only that, Scott and Ryan were always available for assistance and even sent us pictures of Norma with both of them beside her. These are very nice, responsible young men. We are grateful for the care they provided Norma in the last days of her life.

With several falls, injuries and a hospitalization, in addition to refusing to call 911, we immediately moved to a more supportive and caring home. Harbor uses word manipulation in their advertising to attract business, however do not offer what they state. It just did not feel like a "care" home. Unfortunately I would not recommend this facility for your loved ones needing sincere care and support. Thank you for the response. The fact that you used the verbiage "constant", in your reply, describes exactly the sentiment of Harbor, that we/she was a bother. It was never about the money, as we offered to pay more for better care and it was declined. All we wanted was a safe and caring place for my Mom and unfortunately the standard at Harbor was not that. The pictures I posted tell only 60% of what she endured, and "context " enough to express our experience; not to mention twice her laying on the floor for hours because staff was not able to lift her (or call for help) until my brother or I arrived. This is not personal, I understand you have a business to run, however the care level at Harbor left us with a lot to be desired. I do appreciate you working with us to accommodate your protocols and wish you and your families all the best.

I've been coming here for as long as I can remember and have never had a bad experience until now…read more The nurses and front desk staff are always friendly and helpful, no complaints there. My primary care doctor, Dr. Serna, is amazing and always takes great care of me. I had an appointment with her today, but the office called to let me know she wasn't in and asked if I wanted to reschedule or see another doctor. Since I've been in significant ear pain, I chose to see Dr. Ashizawa just to get a referral to an ENT. My appointment was at 3:00, but he didn't come in until 3:50. After briefly looking in my ear and doing a quick ear drum test, he said nothing was wrong and that there was nothing more he could do. I asked if he could please send a referral to an ENT since I'm in a lot of pain and pressure, but he shrugged and said there was no point because they wouldn't do anything different. That's simply not true, he barely investigated the issue. I left after two hours with no diagnosis or help and am now debating whether to go to the ER or pay out of pocket to see a specialist. I'd highly recommend avoiding Dr. Ashizawa, he seemed completely dismissive and uninterested in helping his patients.

This happens multiple time and just today I was returning a call that was left on my voicemail about my referral and I was going through the automated system again. Finally got a Patient Navigator and said I was returning a call left on my voicemail. I wasn't able to talk to that person that left the message on my voicemail and had to make an appointment for a consult. So now I have to drive back to the doctors office just to see what the voicemail was about. Anyone else having issues with this Automated Phone System they now have? If so, you need to speak up. What ever happened to talking to a live person from the doctors office you go too. Other than that the Doctors, Staff, and Patient Navigators are great. Been going there for over 20 years.
