In July 2023 she raised it to $150, and told us the commercial fishermen were complaining because they used their own totes???? She also insisted on cash payment, which we suspect went directly into her own pocket. Beware the Ice Nazi of French Creek! We, nor our fellow fishermen, will ever again stop there.

First visit we bought shrimp cakes. You know if you don't mix jello enough, there's a layer of thick rubber at the bottom? That's the consistency of the shrimp cakes. The next time I asked if the crab cakes were any different, and she said if you don't like the consistency of the shrimp cakes, you're not going to like the consistency of the crab cakes. Second visit was for halibut. Not fresh, but apparently flash frozen and cut the same day as it is sold. Was extremely watery, so...... Third visit is a charm - or not! Fresh sockeye salmon for $27.99 a pound. They were not deboned so I spent half an hour deboning four fillets. Of the four, one still had a section of bone attached to the side which had to be trimmed. One fillet had a large section of fat that had to be trimmed. There goes about $6. Thrifty's and Quality Foods has better seafood - just sayin....

And they have truly been 'the' best looking, most flavourful, fish and other seafood canned products I have ever tasted. Pacific Ocean, locally caught/harvested, west coast BC seafoods, processed and packed (many by hand) on Vancouver Island. They have offered many wow's when tins were opened, and products inside seen. And even more accolades when tasted!! So a big 'Yes' from me, I think their slogan is 'on the mark' for the products I have tasted, and well-deserve the slogan the company has chosen.

My wife and I have fished the West Coast of Vancouver since the late 80's. As a way to extend our trip, we always take our first limits we catch to St Jean's to have smoked and canned and sent home. It is without doubt and hesitation the best product we have ever had. Every time we take it anywhere we always get comments of how wonderful it is. Just as an example, when we returned from our trip in July, we gave a couple of cans to our garbage man, a young man from Africa who always shows a smile and goes beyond in providing fantastic service. The next time we saw him he stopped his truck and came running up to tell us that he shared it with his family and they all thought it was the best salmon they have ever had. That response was what we hear from everyone. We have 2 more cans sitting out for him as a Christmas gift this week. Every dish we use it in is stellar. The product is always consistent and wonderful. We are always excited to receive our notice from the shipper that our package is on the way. It may take awhile because they are so busy, but totally worth the waiting time and cost. We thank you St Jean's for your great service and incredible products. We look forward to visiting again in July and highly recommend that everyone stop by and try your products. They are simply the best.

But I ended up in what I can only describe as a full-blown carrot cake standoff. I purchased a slice of carrot cake, only to discover, once home, that it contained shredded coconut. I loathe coconut. The texture is unmistakable to anyone who's ever had it (and hates it). So I drove back the next day and politely asked if I could swap it for something else, not a refund, just a coconut-free treat. What followed was like something out of a sitcom. The staff convened a mini tribunal. The cake was taken behind closed doors and inspected. I was assured that the recipe ONLY contained walnuts (and was not to believe my own eyes - and taste buds). I was even handed a new slice and told, confidently, "No coconut here." I opened the box and pointed right at the flecks of the offending ingredient. Still - the manager insisted: "That's walnut." Spoiler alert: it wasn't. The level of denial was surreal. What could've been a simple, friendly interaction instead turned defensive and weirdly authoritarian. No accountability. No flexibility. Just "take it or leave it" and I left with less respect for a business I truly wanted to support. This isn't just about taste. It's about trust. If staff don't know what's in their own products (or worse, deny what's clearly there), it raises concerns for anyone with dietary sensitivities or allergies.
