My friend recommended them to me. To those complaining about the high prices, how do you think a small business makes it? DUH. Anyways they tested my water for me & turns out I had a bad testing kit. I was so stressed out over my Axolotl and looks like she's ok after all. I purchased a new testing kit from them. Also they helped me out with my chiller & air pump connections. They have so many pretty fish, the koi were amazing but I completely missed the feeding section, also my friend said they have turtles, but that area was closed off. I have a turtle so glad they can be a back up for turtle stuff because they carry some items that you don't see at other pet stores for turtles. Will be back.

I have always wanted a saltwater tank. This year I decided to focus some of my attention towards this hobby. After visiting a bunch of marine stores in the area the hubs and I stopped here. The first person we encountered was knowledgeable, not pushy, and gave us examples of what a good starter tank needed. We ended up purchasing our tank from the aquarium show in Schaumburg. After dealing with some of the vendors at the show I decided I wanted to give the rest of our business to Sea Escapes. I went back there this past Thursday and they were able to help with our pump, skimmer, water, and live rock. They won our return business.

DO NOT use Sea Escapes in south Elgin for pond cleaning and do not support this business. They cleaned our ponds today and were negligent in their actions, which resulted in tons of our fish dying. We've lost 25+ and still counting. My children are so upset and trying to save them. They left them in dirty water while "cleaning", after stating they would remove them. And shocked them with cold hose water. They shouldn't have even run a full pressure garden hose to refill, and they ran 2, which killed the fish with too much cold water. The cleaning job was subpar at best. I called and Don said they wouldn't refund us for the cleaning that is poor, and just "bring him bodies" as proof. Please save yourself the headache and avoid them at all costs.

It's not like the tank was in bad condition or anything. This was taken a few days before I took it down.

The owner doesn't respect his customer enough to wear a mask! Will not go back! Fish are overpriced compared to other locations

I recently moved and Don sent two of his workers to take down my tank and even install it.

"Please be sure to thoroughly disinfect any freshwater plants purchased from this location. I unfortunately did not, and the consequences were significant. While the staff was friendly, the store itself appeared somewhat unclean, and during my visit I noticed several lethargic goldfish as well as deceased fish in many of the freshwater tanks. Although I initially went in to purchase fish, I decided against it and instead brought home some water lettuce. Within three days, my own fish became severely ill, and despite our efforts to save them, two did not survive. It appeared to be an E. coli outbreak. In hindsight, I should have sterilized the plants before introducing them to my aquarium, even though this is not something I have typically done in the past. I hope this helps others avoid a similar experience, and perhaps the marine and coral sections are maintained to a higher standard." I'm not at all surprised to see other people commenting that the store had dirty tanks. Deleting poor reviews after responding with a snarky comment says a lot about the business owner. Shop at your own risk. *The owner can't block this review, but look how he responded when he knew the public wouldn't be able to read his words. Also, the plants i purchased did not come out of a discus tank. Please, go in for yourselves but make your purchases at your own risk.

The rest of "aquarium" stores that we've been to, are, imho, sh-t. You can imagine our surprise when this seemingly little "hole-in-the-wall" store that we thought nothing of when passing by in car, originally, turned out to be SO wonderful and SO close (side note: Oy! We've been going there a lot...too tempting!). And Eddie (Eddy?), the owner, has worked at like all the places I've just mentioned. It's a new store but he has *years* of experience, is super smart, and lovely in terms of the time he takes with people. He also has ample, knowledgeable staff, which is needed for this many fish tanks. I'm confused about the one-star review, and my guess is that person's fish died because they don't know enough about not overfeeding or water conditions or something...is her "son" in charge of feeding, and, if so, how old is he? We've bought both fish and corals from here and they've thrived. There are clear markings (for saltwater) for when the fish/corals have arrived to the store, and you can ask anyone there about extra care requirements and needs. I've not noticed anything "expired" either. As for clutter: It's on the smaller side, so yes...it can be tight. BUT: Eddie is in the process of moving the store to a bigger space just a few blocks away (even closer for us, Oy!). I highly recommend this store as the best new fish store we've found in quite a while. We will happily buy from them again. TIP: Make sure you sign up for membership, as that gives you perks and discounts. But even that said: Their prices are ridiculously reasonable (though I'll take the discounts, Eddie, with thanks!). Highly recommend! This spoken from two people who have spent quite a few years with home tanks of both kinds. Go visit! You won't be disappointed.

Turns out I was doing a lot wrong (like over cleaning) but the lady helping me (sorry forgot her name) was extremely helpful and really seemed to love sharing her knowledge.
