the location of this restaurant is beautiful- upon walking in we were greeted by attentive staff who got our party of 8 seated immediately. the waitress was also very patient with us when we were ordering so that was a plus. as for the food, we got the oysters which were on the smaller side, but still fresh. i got the curry dish which was comforting and had great flavor, but the only reason i gave this restaurant a 3 out of 5 stars is because the mussel appetizer and the the mussels in my curry tasted pretty much the same. my cousin ordered the poke bowl but couldn't finish it because she didn't like the flavor. still great food and definitely a place to come check out and dine! read more

My husband and I discovered this gem of a restaurant on the water just north of Sidney but just south of Swartz Bay. It is a perfect location if you are catching the ferry after lunch. My choice was a Nicoise salad and it was first rate. My husband ordered a different type of salad with chicken and he loved it also. The service is personal and friendly. The ambiance is restful and lovely. I am looking forward to eating there again as soon as possible. read more

This place closed for business suddenly. I would normally be okay with this since the chef was terrible, but they reportedly sold gift cards knowing they would be closing. According to reports online, they are not paying their staff the money the are owed. The owners should be ashamed of themselves. Lovely place against the docks for lunch! Stopped here on our way down to Victoria from Schwartz Bay terminal. Located in a bit of a residential area, it was a little hard to find, but what a gem. Super friendly service, and absolutely loved the overall atmosphere and aesthetic. We got the fish and chips, lamb burger, and a salad with ahi tuna. All were delicious! The fish was probably our favourite - perfectly cooked with a light crisp batter. Great with their tartar sauce. The lamb burger had a beautiful combo of flavours and texture. The peach chutney balanced amazingly with the goat cheese, crispy onions and seasoned lamb patty. We wanted to come back on our way back up, but we ran out of time! An excellent, small restaurant at the head of the Van Isle Marina. Many options for both dinner and brunch. We stayed with the seafood offerings. The shellfish stew was superb. The grilled halibut was beautifully presented. For brunch the next day I had the smoked salmon eggs Benedict on top of a potato pancake, billed as a rosti, but more mashed than grated. I really enjoy this cozy little restaurant by the marina. I have been here a handful of times for brunch and lunch. My server today did an excellent job of a accommodating my family with particular requests. We came in for breakfast which was unexpectedly busy (there was only 1 server in the morning, but I thought the server did really well to make sure people felt they were being looked after). We ordered The Benny, The standard, and Green Eggs and ham. I asked the hash browns to be on the crispy side and they came out really dark (probably a bit too dark but I didn't say anything because they still tasted pretty good...although next time I think I'll just order them without mentioning extra crispy). I ordered the turkey apple sausage which were a generous portion; however the texture and taste were on the over cooked/chewy side. They looked like they had been deep fried (which I don't have a problem with) but I think they could have been better. Coffees and tea were refilled regularly. Will I come back? Absolutely because I generally enjoy the food. I think today may have been a one off day in the kitchen (either they were swamped or someone new because I know they serve better than today). I really appreciated the great service and it's in such a great location. I will probably order off of the lunch menu next time or will order my usual-the salmon cakes Benny. read more

Food was good and our waitress/waiter was excellent. The down side was the hostess - we had a reservation and most of the tables were empty. She sat us at a back table by the washrooms. No one else came in the entire time we were there including to the table by the windows that had a reserved sign on it. When we left shortly after 7pm all the other tables were still empty and 7:30 is their last seating. Tables had been cleared of wine glasses so know no one else was coming. Sad that they treated us that way. If you choose to go here be sure to request a table away from the washroom and close to windows. read more

My wife and I decided to run into Sidney for a smart lunch and settled on the Sea Glass. We had been there before and recalled a pleasant experience both in terms of its decor and menu. We arrived just before noon on a Tuesday and were surprised to see the place filling up in short order. I went with the Langoustine and Blue Crab Roll which featured a fresh baked Portuguese roll stuffed with lemon-basil infused baby lobster and blue crab salad and butter lettuce. It was delicious. Although they offer breakfast items all day, my wife's favourite meal of the day, she opted for the Sausage & Onion Flatbread. It comprised a roasted Italian sausage, caramelized onion, heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil, house made Marinara, aged Cheddar and Asiago cheeses. Say no more!! Service was prompt, courteous and knowledgeable. My only complaint was the noise level is high given the hard surfaces of the floors and walls. This is a fine little restaurant that bears repeat visits as the menu is loaded with lots of interesting options. read more

This is a busy little place. We wanted to sit outside and had to wait for a table. But, the wait was well worthwhile. We have come to expect excellent service and unbounded courtesy from Canadian wait staff...and we were not disappointed. Typically, the food was excellent. There is something aboot the quality of fresh produce here in British Columbia that just doesn't seem to be there in the States, eh! Of course, we are deep in the heart of fish country and the fish, crustaceans and squiddley are simply as good as anything I have tasted anywhere. It seems at first glance that food here is expensive. But a quick calculation to convert the local Canukian dollars into greenbacks shows it is great value for top class fare. My son had the burger and rated it average (but he is huge into burgers), my daughter had the portobello mushroom burger and gave it a thumbs up. Weak so had the Caesar salad with shrimp. Beware! Asians aren't welcome here. I'm not usually one to write a negative Yelp review but I wanted to warn foodies out there that racism can sour a decent meal. My friends and I came to this restaurant after a wonderful day starting with afternoon tea at the Empress Hotel followed by a visit to the Butchart Gardens. We decided on Sea Glass Waterfront Grill for dinner after seeing decent reviews on Yelp. We arrived early at the restaurant at 4:45 pm in order to catch our 7pm ferry back to Vancouver. The waitress, K, was very hesitant to seat us and lectured us several times that we could only order appetizers as dinner didn't start until 5:00 pm. In order to appease her, we ordered appetizers and waited. The appetizer was very dry and unpalatable. When it was 5:10pm, K reluctantly came over to take out order after gossiping with her fellow waitstaff. She curtly took our order while smelling strongly of cigarettes. She frowned at us and pretty much made us feel very unwelcome. (We noticed that she welcomed every other customer that proceeded us, described the special of the day, and actually smiled at them. It is also noted that we were the only Asians in the restaruant.) We ordered salmon cakes, salmon over risotto, cioppino, and sable fish over parpadelle. My friend's $30 seafood cioppino was passable but there was an inordinate amount of vegetables compared to seafood. (We're San Francisco natives so we know our cioppino.) When my friend found a piece of hair on her potato, she wanted to speak up by I told her it wasn't worth it because we were leaving soon anyways. We waited a while for the bill as K was blatantly ignoring us. When our bill came, it was incorrect but we hurriedly paid to get out of the restaurant. K did not thank us. Overall, it appears racism still exists in this part of the island. read more

This is one of my favorite breakfast places in Sidney. The restaurant is right by the docks with a beautiful view of the ocean. Reservation is recommended for weekends and holidays. The food quality was amazing as always, and the portions were huge. They have a large variety of eggs benny paired with different ingredients. This time, I ordered the Wild Sockeye Benny today, and it was just as good as I remembered. The hollandaise sauce was creamy and not overly heavy. Both the salmon cakes and the medium poached eggs were cooked to perfection. The servers were amazing. $15 for a great view and great service is just such a bargain! We had a sunset window table looking out at the board in the marina! Gorgeous! Then on to the meal - the Caesar Salad ranks up with the best I have ever had and my husband had what was basically deconstructed spring rolls - outstanding! I ordered the West Coast Ciopinno and every bite was better than the last! White fish - salmon- sweet Scallops, prawns, mussels and clams - I couldn't even finish it! Made a reservation for 6 on a Friday evening, the place was full. Service was very friendly and efficient. I shared my main, starter and dessert with a friend of mine so I did, in fact, have 6 different dishes. We started with the Black & Blue and the Asian Chicks Wings. Chicken wings were good, not overly exciting, but tasty. The Black and Blue was ok as well, subtle flavours and nicely presented. Portion sizes for our 2 starters were standard but the other diners at our table ordered starters where the portion size was bordering on full main course size. (Stuffed Portobello, deconstructed spring rolls and baked brie.) If you are a light eater, skip the starter or ask about portion sizing before ordering. For the mains we had West Coast Cioppino and the Sable Fish pasta. Both were absolutely wonderful, but the sable fish was wonderfully cooked, buttery and tasty, the winner between the 2 dishes. Again, portion sizes are extremely generous. For desert, which are all made in house, I had a goat cheese chocolate cheesecake mousse which was delightful and a lemon tart which was also quite delicious. Finally got a chance to eat at my favourite Sidney restaurant. I don't get down here often, but when I do I try to take time to enjoy a meal at Sea Glass Waterfront Grill. I enjoyed the Lamb Burger and managed to share some of my fellow diners' salmon sliders and pulled pork flatbread. The corn chowder was perfect and the coffee woke up my taste buds. No photos, although the presentation was great I'm just not much for food photography or writing about food. When it smells so good, I'm rather focused on eating! Ambience was great, but I'd recommend sitting facing water to enjoy the sea view rather than seeing the chefs' mugs (just kidding, guys). Service was excellent. The staff was efficient and friendly.
