This is an interesting little shop. It's unlike any other wine store I've ever been in. First off, there is no organization as far as I can tell. The wine fridge is a hodgepodge of bottles stacked on top of each other that you need to sort through to find what you're looking for. It's a tough store to navigate when you're looking for something in particular, but a great store when you aren't sure what you want. Owners/employees are particularly helpful, kind, funny...I have nothing but positive things to say about them. They give phenomenal recommendations which is great when you aren't a wine expert. With that said, bottles run about $5 over market, which isn't the end of the world, but they are definitely marked up. I view it as $5 for the recommendation and the rest for the bottle. They do have a loyalty program - I think spending $250 or so gets you a $25 gift card (don't quote me on that, but it's something along those lines). All in all, I'll return...if nothing else, just for the entertainment of being around the owners. read more

We stumbled upon this tiny gem of a wine shop recently on our way to dinner. They have some really good picks ranging from low end to high end from many regions and varietals. They stagger the under $15 bottles in the middle of the shop and are strategically placed next to some more expensive bottles. However the descriptions are short funny and effective! Def eye catching. This time I picked up four bottles of wine from France, Italy and Portugal. All were very good. Staff is very approachable and friendly, always willing to help and make recommendations. Super chill and laid back. I love that they have wines from some smaller regions that the big shops don't usually hold inventory on. They have an excellent bubbly selection which I plan on checking out soon! I am usually a big red fan and there were plenty of those. I appreciated they had some bottles from duoro and also.a good variety of organic wines. Also their French and Italian selection was great! They have a loyalty program whicj keeps track of what you purchased and helps you accumulate points. I usually end up at Sea Grape due to its proximity to my apartment. This is where I buy most of my wine, and I love that they always have reasonably priced Bourgogne and Torrontes here. The staff is so friendly and helpful; they'll always try and find a cold bottle in the fridge for me if I'm going straight home to glug glug glug. They are also very knowledgeable and give awesome suggestions if you want to try something new. The liquor prices are a little high though, so I try to go to Warehouse in the East Village for the best deal. read more

There are some Barbies and other assorted children's toys having a party in the front windows of this wine store. Crazy. What Barbie picnics and wine have to do with each other, I do not know. This is what every wine store wants to be. I don't live in the Village, but when I walked in I instantly felt like I was in my neighborhood wine shop. The staff asked if they could help but allowed me to browse quietly, and once I had too much to carry, one of the guys took the bottles from my arms and started removing the price tags at the register. Classy. When I finally did need help (they didn't carry exactly the wine I was looking for so I was a bit overwhelmed, trying to buy a gift) the same sales guy came over and helped me pick something not too expensive but (hopefully) excellent. The total wasn't cheap, but I'm happy to pay a little extra for the experienced and upbeat staff. Bonus-- after I told them the more expensive bottle was a gift, they gladly wrapped it in shiny paper and a ribbon for me. For free. Perhaps next time I'll try the cheap stuff with the cardboard signs. read more

Such a charming wine shop with an attentive staff. Dropped in on Friday to grab a specific bottle of wine, which they didn't have, but it worked out. Based on what I was looking for, one of the employees pointed me to a $13 bottle of wine that he thought I'd like. Well, he was right. It was great and now I have a new wine to add to my repertoire. Very nice wine shop in the West Village. The more expensive bottles line the shelves on the perimeter of the store, and the cheaper selections are displayed in the center. Staff are very knowledgeable about the wine and usually approach you to see if you need any assistance. Very unpretentious store with solid selections; I love their zany signs. read more

OWNER IS RUDE AF... I usually go l here and get my wine and he is very helpful but today I saw the worst side of him ... I was walking by and I saw him literally yelling at this pregnant woman with an ACLU shirt who was just trying to do her job and all you could hear him say was "I don't give a fuck that you're pregnant, I'll still harass you" ... The ACLU canvassers weren't standing in front of his store they were standing next to it and even if they were in front of his store it's PUBLIC property... on top of that I thought it was funny he was yelling at the pregnant woman about her canvassing near his business because "it ruins his potential clientele" but he literally was outside with some other guys skateboarding and doing tricks right in front of her! Like if anything THAT was ruining his business not the ladies trying to do their job. read more

The Seagrape Wine Shop is fabulous. I learned of it from a restaurant owner in the area who believes it's owner, Thomas, is one of the most knowledgeable wine experts anywhere in Florida. I stopped in for the first time yesterday. I came away exceedingly happy with a mixed case of wine from various countries and regions as well as being substantially more aware of some of the nuances of wine production in France and Italy. Do yourself a favor and stop in sometime. And the prices are equal to or better than the averages of what you see on Wine Searcher. read more

Made a quick stop to select a wine for our French fondue dinner. Staff pleasant and knowledgeable of various French selections and made a great 2005 recommendation (which name now escapes me). The way this store is set up, you have to hold your breath as you go thru the zig zag "isles" to make sure you don't knock anything down. Sure, they have quite an extensive collection of wines but the employee with long curly hair was so arrogant when I was asking for suggestions that I rather spend my money elsewhere. read more

I went in for a bottle of wine. i asked for a bottle of sanciere, he showed me the selection and then let me wander. I asked about the price of the Veuve Cliquot and proceeded to tell me how my taste in champaigne is terrable and why. I was never so insulted in my life. How dare he insult a customers taste. I've since defected to Winesby because their owners taste is more inline with my own. But when I went to Sea Grape it was good - love their descriptions - once they had a $5 bottle of wine that was listed as a wine you had to try before dying - it wasn't bad. I haven't written a review of a retail store before (only restaurants), but this wine shop is so good that I feel compelled to do so. I am so lucky to have Sea Grape Wine shop around the corner from me. If I ever move farther away, I would still make the trip to buy my wine there. Shopping there is a pleasure.
