I'm very glad I was able to locate a solid shop that was able to offer a quick, easy and reasonably priced re-power. I first stated by calling and visiting local shops around San Diego getting a few quotes. I spoke with David over the phone and he did a great job by asking me questions about my intentions for re powering. The entire transaction from start to finish was great. I'm really glad I found Sea Witch Marine. I had a much better experience here than the other shop I had been using down the street.. I called in for a 300 hour service and a throttle control box/cable replacement. They took my boat the same day I called in. The owner was super nice, personable, and knowledgeable. Only took a few days and she was ready for pickup. Hit the water today out of mission to test everything out and do some rock fishing around La Jolla. Didn't skip a beat! I ordered a part over the phone from another state. Was going to have my friend bring to me. All the parts were in stock. I paid for the part over the phone. I told him my friend would come by and pick it up. I ended up not needing the part and called to return my order. all in all except for a little phone tag it went pretty smooth. He let me know I had to pay $25 restocking fee. Bummer he told me the credit card companies charged him 6%. 3% in 3% out, I only spent $150. stupid credit card companies want nine dollars oh well . I don't know , I'm not real sure what to think ? the guy helping me was fine . maybe I'm just programmed a little bit on returns being so easy in the world today. I don't know if that's a good thing. In the past I brought my boat to the service department for some troubleshooting. I requested the Yamaha computer. When I asked for this service 6 months ago he told me no that he would not just do that. He said he wanted to go through my entire engine to make sure I put the fuel filters.. which only snap on one way.. on in the correct manner and he would charge 1,200 for it. I told him I can't afford that now and all I'd like is the engine codes read. He refused service. I took the boat home and got busy with work. 6 months later I went to the boat to try it out again and noticed my power lift trim rod leaked all the oil out. So I went to sea witch for all parts needed as I always have. I've always bought everything from there. Ivan the parts guy is very knowledgeable and kind. I went home and couldn't get the ram off because I don't have the tool. So I called service and asked how much to replace the seals and then hook up the computer. The service guy (owner?) remembered me and gave his price for both, which I was happy he was finally being real with prices so I accepted. He did complain on the phone saying the computer is worthless and won't tell me anything because these engine only ever have fuel problems. I said I'd like to see the results please and took my boat over. I showed up at 4:50 and they signed me in. All 3 shop doors, both gates and the showroom floors were open. I was given the paper at 4:56 and asked to drop my boat off in the back and told I can leave after that. I had my 3 kids 8-11 with me. I dropped my boat off and tried to drive out at 5:05. That shop guy must be WAY faster than he looks because he completely closed and locked everything. I mean everything, I couldn't get out. I drove around the entire place twice. I banged on every shop door including the back. I could hear people laughing in there but there are no windows. After banging for 5 minutes I went to the showroom back door, which if anyone has been there you know you can see straight through to the front door and everything inside except behind parts and where the sales desks are but it is still a big open room. That back door is metal and so is the frame.when you grab the handle and shake it back and forth it is so loud that my kids could hear the rattling 20' away in my 2018 Cummins ram so anyone in that small echoing showroom should have heard it. After another 5 minutes I gave up, got in my truck and drove to the gate that was locked and waited. After more time I called and left a message on sea witch marine phone then called the police for assistance in getting out. I had to find someone to pick up my oldest daughter who was stuck on the side of the road because her practice got out. After nearly 30 minutes, the same service guy (owner?) who told me to put my boat in the back casually walks up to the gate, pulls out his keys, unlocks it, opens it and turns his back to me. As I drove out I asked him what happened? He responded "what do you mean?" I said my family and I have been locked in for a half hour, my 13 year old daughter is stuck on the side of the road waiting for me. He knew I was there. He said "it was not locked and we (him and his friend) were in the showroom". I told him I could see in the showroom and banged on the door for almost 5 minutes, is this how he usually treats all customers is to lock them in and be nowhere to be found for a half hour? He told me that I'm unreasonable and to get my boat that he refuses service. I responded saying so this is how you treat customers and if they try to talk to you about it you kick them out? Something that should be very concerning to every boat owner, I know how much boat stuff costs and Sea Witch Marine obviously allows people to just stay back with all the peoples boats and thousands of dollars in shiny merchandise. Very risky. I told the owner that at no point should they allow non employees in the back alone where everyone's stuff can be easily stolen. I grabbed my boat and left. In my opinion, peveryone should stay far away from this place. Their parts are much more than other places, they feel the Yamaha computer is not worth anything and say they want over $1,200 to tear down a Yamaha 150 4 stroke. I can completely disassemble everything down to the block in 15 minutes without any training.. so either their techs and the "owner" don't have the right experience to be working on boat engines or they are adding more time than it takes to get money. The "owner" manager of parts (John I believe) is a liar (says the gate wasn't locked even though he unlocked it in front of me and also says he was in the showroom I could clearly see in and was banging on) and in my experience overcharges for labor. I'd love to see the video footage of the whole thing. He says I never went to the showroom and the gate wasn't locked. Stay away unless you like, in my opinion, being ripped off and disrespected. read more

I loved Sea Witch Marine when Bill Burgess worked there. I bought 3 boats through him and he sold 3 boats for me. Four years ago I purchased a small yamaha outboard for my inflatable and a brand new trailer for my 27.5 Boston Whaler from Bill at Sea Witch for $10,000.00. Bill has retired from working there I think three years ago. I have had my boat serviced over the last four years at West Coast Marine in Costa Mesa and enjoyed their service. As I keep my boat now out of the water only 20 minutes now from Sea Witch I decided to have it serviced there. I made a call to the owner, John, to have it serviced and he said they don't take appointments just to bring it in. So I did today. He greeted me in the parking lot with a sour expression that made me feel like I was a pain in his A**. I asked for the service manager and he said he would relay my requests and what were they. "Service both 225 engines and the 4 horse yamaha." Plus a minor issue with the power. After he reluctantly came aboard we took off the cowling to one engine. I explained I had already paid a electrician specialist $1,000.00 to diagnose the problem, and although he did, he wanted to question it. The problem is simple. The connection from the wiring harness to the engines plug is not connecting perfectly all the time and needs cleaning or replacement. It works at this time perfectly as it's making a good connection. He said he couldn't replace the part as it was a Mercury part. (My engines are 2002 Mercury but really all Yamaha parts as Mercury had Yamaha make the 4 stroke engines for them in that year.) I asked why not and he just repeated he doesn't work with Mercury parts. Ok the suggestion from the electrician was simply to wire brush the connections, put it together, and put a $.25 cent wire clamp around the connection to keep it in place! He arrogantly refused to put a clamp around the connection saying it wasn't recommended by the factory! So here's the owner of Sea Witch Marine telling me basically he doesn't need my business, doesn't want to help me with this problem with an easy inexpensive solution, and has an aloof attitude to boot. So I told him I really miss Bill Burgess and would be taking my boat back to West Coast Marine for service in spite of the distance. I moved to north county a couple years ago with my 21' parker. I called around to find a reputable yamaha dealer. The only place I could find was Sea Witch marine. So I called to schedule routine maintenance for my 150 yamaha. They seemed really nice on the phone, and in person. they were very friendly when I dropped my boat off for service. I finally got a call to pick up my boat almost a week after they told me it would be finished. When I got down there to pick it up the bill was almost $400 more than they told me it would be. they said they had to replace 2 of my spark plug coils that were cracked. I asked for the old parts but they told '' they must have gotten thrown away''. That raised some concerns with me. I was upset that they didn't call me before replacing the parts or keep the old ones to show me they were cracked. needless to say I paid my bill so I could go fishing. Maybe 6 months later I noticed I was loosing power. My motor would bog down at higher rpm's. So I thought I would give Sea Witch Marine another chance. They had my boat for over 2 weeks, before I even received a call back from Sea Witch. They told me my boat was ready to be picked up but they hadn't finishing totaling up my bill. $2,200 was my bill. I was told that all 4 of my injectors were bad and had to be replaced, one of my fuel pumps had to be replaced, all 4 plugs, they rebuilt my throttle body, and replaced the air box. I could not believe that all that had to be done. but I am no boat mechanic so what could I do, but pay it. The next time I took the boat out, less than a week later, it ran good, for the first couple hours. then same thing would happen. it would bog down at higher speed. I talked to one of my fishing buddies who has worked on his own outboard over the years and he told me to try this cleaner called powertune or something like that. I sprayed it the spark plug holes and let it sit for an hour or so, then cranked the motor to clean it out. THAT'S IT!!! my motor has run great since doing that. An $8 can of cleaner was all I needed. I was debating on calling the BBB or Turko files on Sea Witch but I'm hoping this will get the word out as well. I will never take my boat back to Sea Witch Marine!!! And if you have any common sense you will take your boat ANYWHERE but Sea Witch Marine. THEY ARE SCUMBAGS!!! read more
