Docent Donna was waiting on the quaint front porch and warmly greeted us as we climbed up the shell mound staircase. Docent Donna was so knowledgeable and shared her personal experiences that brought the home to life. The decor and personal family heirloom in the home were so impressive and brought so much personal insight to the Du Bois home. We had a wonderful time. Well worth the drive.

I came on a Tuesday morning but the house was locked and there weren't any tours. I tried calling first but couldn't reach anyone. In any case you can see the rooms through the windows. The house was built in 1898 by Harry and Susan DuBois and gives a glimpse into what life was like in Jupiter 100 years ago. The house is on top of a hill which is actually a midden which is a Native America garbage dump. The hill is filled with shells from the seafood the native people ate. Pottery and beads believed to have been brought by Ponce de Leon have been found in the mound. The DuBois's were friends with another Jupiter pioneer family the Carlins and they made their living by fishing, farming, and operating a fishing camp. Some of the DuBois original furniture remain in the house. You can get a stunning view of the Jupiter Inlet from the house. The little shed on the side of the road used to be on land where the DuBois farmed pineapples and it's called the pineapple house. Harry moved it to the park to it's present location and lived in it while he constructed his home. It is believed to be the oldest wooden structure in Palm Beach County. I hope to make it back someday when the house is open. They don't offer tours on the weekend when most people have off. The only one home was a woodpecker determined to poke a very large hole through the front of the house.

They are hanging from trees, dancing, and even pulling Santa's sleigh. See if you can find all 29 pigs. The best part of the display is the synchronized lights to music. It is really incredible how many lights they use. I could have watched it all night. Lights and colors are synchronized to classic and pop Christmas songs. When You're a Mean One Mr. Grinch the house was lit in the Grinch's signature red and green colors while the song played. There is plenty of parking on the swale across the street from the house. The light show will be running until December 31st, 6 to 10 PM nightly. This is great gift to the Jupiter Farms community.
