I don't post reviews often. You've gotta be exceptional or pretty darn aweful for me to take the time. Seamen's merits an excellent one! I'm 8 1/2 months pregnant and was pretty worried about how this would go. They sent three guys who were punctual, professional and exceptionally hard working! One did most of the wrapping and packing while the other two brought the furniture and boxes down and did most of the loading on the truck. At some point while they packed and emptied my apartment I fell asleep on my sofa. The guys were nice enough to pack around me and move everything else until I woke up so they wouldn't disturb me! Really really thoughtful. I've lived in the city for years and have moved a handful of times and none of the previous movers compared to these. You can tell it wasn't their first rodeo. After a few items were wrapped, protected and loaded with care I relaxed and realized they'd do a fantastic job. They packaged things like the TV and larger plants so carefully that not even a single leaf was broken! Crazy but true! Yes, they charge for packaging some stuff in boxes but it was very fair and discussed ahead of time. I didn't have issues with the estimate being low and final price being higher as I read in other reviews. The estimate they gave me was pretty spot on. I was given a range depending on how many boxes they had to pack and it was on the lower end of the range. The only issue I had was that the truck got a ticket and the company called and asked to split it. I didn't like that because it's pretty standard that all delivery and loading trucks get ticketed in the city. I've never heard of the customer sharing that. They didn't press the issue tho so in the end it was fine. I gave them 5 stars because the service was hands down the best I've had and will definitely use them again! I was surprised to see such polarizing reviews for this moving company. In my experience, they were just OK. We had a three man crew, and one man seemed to be very confused about where to go and what to do at all times. I have moved twice in the city before and both times have been way faster and efficient. My partner and I ended up helping unload the truck and boxes ourselves just to keep them moving along. I also had to supply them my own blanket to wrap a computer monitor in because they did not know how to pack it. In addition, I found that the extra costs were a bit much. We were charged a driving time of 30 mins to get to the first location even though the apartment was a 10 minute drive from the warehouse. We were also told we would get a $60 "box credit" which helped cover TV boxes on the day of the move, but then we got charged an additional $100 for other materials used (blankets, tape, wrap, etc.) Normally moving companies do not charge you for tape. They got our belongings from point A to point B, and nothing was majorly damaged. However, I am not sure we would use this moving company again. read more

Totally incompetent. They broke my solid walnut drop leaf table because some child employee piled too much weight on it. Another child employee scratched the surface of my Ralph Lauren buffet. This company should be fine for Ikea furniture, but nothing more. read more

I recently moved to a different apartment in the same building. Seamen's came over to take a look, and their estimate was spot on. On moving day the crew worked well together. The foreman and his team were considerate and professional. They worked efficiently and were careful to ask me about the placement of each box and piece of furniture. They put up with a lot of my "move it two inches to the right, now one inch back to the left". I would use them again, and I am glad to recommend Seamen's! read more

Excellent service by Seaman's Moving! During a snowstorm, the Seaman's team led by John, Steve and Kenny did a great job of helping us move two apartments into one in Manhattan. They took care with our stuff, and made helpful suggestions along the way to better protect our valuables (art frames and such). The office-based team led by Mike were clear about start times, and did not try to gouge us at the end when it was time to settle up. All around good experience! This is the second time I used Seamen's for moving in New York area. I worked with Michael both times during the initial conversation and post-move follow ups. Michael is very professional and quick in providing scheduling options, and the price is reasonable. In terms of the initial survey and the move, I requested the conductor who did my survey, as he seemed very competent (John). He led a team of 3 others and packed my 2 bedroom apartment and reassembled and placed my furnitures in the new location. The whole move took about 10 hours, and they showed up on time and items arrived without damage. I was particular worried about my 3 large screen TVs. John took time and made sure they were all carefully packed and they arrived perfectly in my new apartment. I would definitely recommend them for moving. read more

DO NOT USE THIS MOVING COMPANY! These guys are horrible. I understand that whenever you move, things can get damaged. But, these guys damaged EVERY piece of furniture that I own and many of my possessions. Their packing ability is extremely poor and they broke many, many items! Every wood top dresser was scratched and they broke the footings off my hutch and buffet. They are the absolute worst!!!! They don't even deserve the 1 star I have to rate them to post this review! They disregarded my instructions and killed my tropical fish. DO NOT BELIEVE THEIR WEBSITE. They only post positive reviews. Booked this company to move 2 buildings down. Maybe it's because I booked one week in advance but I had a somewhat bad experience. There were 3 guys to help out with the move and it took longer than estimated. They also damaged my leather chair by placing a wood shelf right on top of it (the corner poked into the chair). After contacting the company we got no response (had sent an instant photo and they said they would be in touch). Furthermore, two of the workers were no where to be seen during half the move(hours). Our furniture was placed in our building hallway for hours. While one worker was packing while the other two men were no where to be seen. Yes in the end it was okay but I had a much better experience with other moving companies in the past and will not use Seaman's again. read more

Exceeds all expectations! This is the second time I've used Seamen's and once again, they went above and beyond the call of duty. They are fair, there were no hidden costs, Michael in the office (always unfailingly patient and polite) called to confirm the day before, and the move actually came in UNDER the estimate. I was pretty stressed out at first, but Tibo, Shandor and James put me completely at ease and did a pretty fantastic job. I moved from an attic in the West Village (not easy to navigate those tiny, uneven steps!) to an apartment in Greenwich and they not only meticulously packed all my framed pictures, but made an extra stop to deliver my couch to a friend's 5th floor walk-up and dump her old bed. All on the hottest day of the year with no complaints. Will definitely use them again and enthusiastically recommend them to everyone. read more

Very impressed by Mike Romano and Tibor. They took care of me every step of the way. I hate moving with a passion. I have benign vertigo and I'm a recovering clutter bug single cat lady (no cats) I decided to do my move in stages so I got to work with these guys a couple times. They packed things exactly how I wanted them and followed all my weird rules about stacking certain size boxes in certain rooms. They even moved food from my refrigerator as it was only across town. I would be comfortable moving across state lines with them. (my stuff came from storage out of state via other movers... ) I used Seamans based off a friends suggestion. From now on I will never go with doing it myself and I would avoid bigger national companies. It's worth it to go with a local business who cares about you. I like that they sent a guy to assess the job in person in advance. For smaller jobs they accepted photos. They asked to be paid the remaining balance in cash which worked fine but it did require me to plan ahead. I got rid of a lot of stuff before the move and I decided to budget for this because professional moving help is such critical physical and mental health boost. Picking a moving company in New York City can be a stressful situation -- between costs, efficiency, and just being able to trust someone with your home, it can be a real hassle. Luckily, for a recent move, we were recommended Seamen's, and I couldn't be happier with the service. A bit of backstory: my husband received a job offer that required him to be in New York within a week. At that time, we were living in south Jersey, and had less than a week to find an apartment and plan a move. What we thought would be the biggest obstacle in the process -- finding affordable, time-flexible movers -- ended up being the most hassle-free. Seamen's moved us on a Sunday (Mother's Day, actually) and were fast, highly professional, and reasonably priced. They arrived at our house in south Jersey at 8 am and the entire move -- packing up the truck, driving to New York, and unloading -- took a little under six hours, and not a single one of our items was broken in the process. Shockingly surprised. Have never had a great experience with movers. I have generally always ,moved myself. Except the last 2 moves. The first move I ever used a mover to help ended up with the guys being mad at me because he wanted more money. He said my medical books were heavier than the usual and demanded extra dough. I said no and he politely said sure. He asked me if I could use the bathroom. I said sure, he ended up punishing my toliet. My dad and me (who was helping me move, couldn't help but feel sorry for the little porcelain can) The next time I moved it sucked too. The guy who was moving looked and cursed like a pirate. He even had an eye patch. The guys left all the paper packing stuff all over the place and until I called the main number, didn't even help to try and remove it. Even though was by the hour. Very unprofessional weirdos. I know I should post a review to warn people. I will someday. So it was with lots of trepidation I called a moving company. They were recommended by the concierge at my new apt. This move was Hoboken to Midtown West. These guys were great. Seriously. I was shocked considering my past experiences. Booking was fast and easy. Day of the move, they sent all certificates without me having to coordinate anything. Thomas came first thing in the morning. Checked everything out, helped with packing whatever I had not already done. Very professional, him and the other two guys. I had to do some things at my last apt. Took longer than expected, but by the time I was done everything was already upstairs and in the apt. Putting all furniture back and in place was quick. Only bad thing was I had a wooden vase, that was already crumbling, that broke. But it was barely hanging on by a thread anyway. Everything they packed came out great btw. Really good with my dog too who kept wanting "to help". The cost was not bad. Even with unpacking, they finished an hr early so cost me much less. As a matter of fact the cost was a 1/3 less than what it cost me to move from UWS to Hoboken with the pirate guy. Was so impressed gave up a 100$ tip. He did mention a tip (but did so in a very kind manner, stating if you are happy with the services we do appreciate tips etc.) and frankly I was happy to oblige. Horrible experience. Unprofessional move. Broke many items. Failed to properly package fragile items. Overcharged on packaging and moving time. Refused to compensate for their damage. Delayed customer service for months ("gave me the run around"). 1. Broke my brand new TV. Movers admitted that new delivery man tried to lift the TV by himself and dropped it. Didn't package or protect any TV at all. 2. Large scuff on a large handmade painting. Didn't package or protect painting at all. 3. Broke back of my couch. 4. Broke several other smaller items because they failed to properly package. 5. Failed to package any fragile item (TV, pictures, glassware) even after explicit agreement to do so. Everything haphazardly thrown into a large box. The worse aspect of this move was Seamen's failure to timely rectify their mistakes and damages. Seamen's refused to admit any liability or provide fair compensation for the damage they caused. Instead, Seamen's opted to delay any resolution, force me to follow up several times, and hope that I would give up. read more

I called Seamen's in June after having used friends and family and a Uhaul truck for my first few NYC moves. I set up the move from midtown Manhattan to Queens with Michael Romano and he went over all the costs and fees. It seemed high but when I checked prices at other movers it was very reasonable for my large one bedroom. Michael was nice enough to call to confirm the day before the move and to see if I needed any additional packing supplies. The 3 guys showed up on time and packed all the electronics, disassembled the furniture and flew out of the apartment and on to Queens for reassembly in no time. They were crazy efficient and careful with everything they moved. Tipping well is expected but it's worth it. They're top notch people for a fantastic moving company. read more

Our First time speaking with Charles I knew we were going to have a very good experience with Seamen's Moving. Charles did a excellent job with quoting and working on dates for the move. He follow up with us before the move and the day of the move. The final price was fair and worth the investment. The moving team was Excellent as well. Poor customer services. Hidden fees. Lack of efficiency. Timeliness issues. These are some of the reasons I will never ever use Seamens Moving again and neither should you. We used this moving company roughly 8 months ago and had a pretty bad experience. The movers were 2 hr late and came with three men. However, instead of using all three men and having us watch the truck they had 2 guys packing and one guy just chilling. Apparently we were paying to have someone kick it for the day. Once the truck was finally loaded up the movers dropped the keys into the sewer. I kid you not. This really happened. This delayed the move for an additional 2 hrs. The movers were finally done by 10PM, 11 hrs of labor for a 500 sq ft apt. Yea...ridiculous. This is not where things went sour. Somehow my fiance decided that it was a good idea to use them again (why I have no idea...maybe laziness to find a new company). The price quote that we got was $165 for three guys, but were promised a discount since we were returning customers, making our hr rate at $145. These numbers didn't make sense as we dropped $850 pre tip last time. That included the 11 hrs of labor (minus 2 hrs of them waiting for a second set of keys) as well as all the boxes. This roughly brings the hourly rate to $85 so I couldn't understand why the price doubled. When I asked for a copy of the old invoice I was given the run around for obvious reasons. When I directly asked why we were being charged double I was told their prices went up. Who's prices are doubling in this economy??? Clearly a scam and clearly they thought we were stupid. To top it off the day before the move they told us the rate is back to $165. When I realized how ridiculous the situation was and how much we were being scammed for I told them we're canceling, at which point they all of the sudden informed us of a $150 deposit that we will lose. Mind you, we were never told of a deposit, it says nowhere on their site about cancellation, and we never put down a deposit. When asked to provide us with anything in writing regarding this policy or even an agreement that we signed Seamens couldn't provide a single thing and therefore realized they were going to commit fraud if they charged our credit card. In addition, no reason could be provided as to why our price jumped from the original $145 discount to $165, let alone the $80 difference from just eight months ago. AVOID AVOID AVOID read more

Professional, efficient and honest. Seamen's was recommended to me by my building staff because they have done many moves for our building and know the process, scheduling etc. They were very good from setting up an estimate all the way to finish. Setting up an appointment for an estimate was easy and accommodating. The estimate was competitive to or slightly under other similar companies. They showed up right on time on move day and got right to work. Everything made it safely and ended up an hour under the estimate for our move from Manhattan to Queens which was great. read more

I am a small business owner and had to move my entire company from one location to another on the upper east side of Manhattan. I was stressed during the process but I felt at ease dealing with Seamens Moving Co. First they sent a person to my company to see the contents of my company and give us a price quote. The man was very professional and gave us a very good price compared to a few others. I was stressed on our moving day but the moving guys showed up on time and there were enough workers that the move was done perfectly and was finished by the end of our business day. Also there was no breakage and they even helped with the packing. They went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable by being complete professionals. Dan went out of his way to help us dispose of some items we did not want to keep so we did not have to move them to the new place. This company is a keeper in my book for all future moving needs. I recently used Seamen's to move from a 5th floor walk up to an elevator building, and I really can't say enough great things about this company. The moving team arrived ten minutes before the scheduled arrival, and they went straight to work. The team was very professional. They worked really hard the whole time and were so efficient. Everything was handled with care. All of my furniture was wrapped in cloth and then shrink wrapped. The wardrobe boxes were packed very neatly and the boxes were all taped. The day I moved was rainy but all of my items made it into the new apartment without getting wet or damaged. The move also took less time than was estimated. I was nervous in selecting a moving company, but can happily say that Seamen's was the right choice. From working on the estimate to completing the move, everyone was really nice and professional. John and his team definitely put all my worries to rest on moving day. My only regret was not having them pack my items too! It took me weeks to pack and they were so efficient I'm sure they would have had everything done in much less time...and probably more efficiently as well! Ours was a complicated move from a hard-to-access downtown location, taking some of our stuff to a smaller place uptown and the rest upstate. Seamen's gave me a detailed and well-planned estimate; the other company recommended by the new building told me I wanted to pack for myself (rather than asking what I wanted), and then couldn't even figure out how to give me one price for the whole move. So we went with Seamen's. I was put off by having to pay via cashier's check or cash, but followed Mike's instructions about how to pay the foreman at the end of each day. It worked out as Mike described, with a full accounting of man-hours and materials used each day. The estimate matched the total I paid in the end with a $100 margin of error. Mike explained we needed to hire a guy just to stand with the truck; this is not uncommon in NYC thanks to a lack of legal, on-street parking; we agreed in advance to split parking tickets. The first day was just packing; it was somewhat hectic with three guys and a lot of questions,but we worked out a system pretty quickly. Most of what I needed to communicate was heard and understood. I got lessons in taping and packing from the experienced foreman, Zoltan. The second day Zoltan and his team swooped in and took out the stuff for the apartment; we were into the new place and unpacked in time to go out for Thai food. The third day they loaded everything else and we moved it upstate; unloading took many hours, with many questions. By this point, the team was thinking for itself, not necessarily waiting to ask me where to put every box. We will be unpacking slowly. Zoltan was an exceptionally good foreman: calm, clear, and agreeable. He was honest with me about staffing, scheduling, parking, and tipping. I will certainly use Seamen's again, and recommend them to folks who want NYC's best mover. read more

I used Seamen's to move from Astoria to Long Island City and all I can say is this was the easiest, fastest, stress-free move ever!! My new building paid for the move so I cannot speak to the pricing but the gentlemen Dan, who coordinated my move, was very easygoing and great to work with. Tomas and 2 other guys came (exactly on time) and wrapped up my furniture super fast and delivered it to my new place safe and sound. Moved a 1 bedroom in about 3-4 hours from start to finish... didn't waste any time. They asked where I wanted each item in the new place to go and executed everything. I moved last week from Queens to Long Island with Seamen's. It was the best experience I had ever had with moving. It usually is a really stressful ordeal to move but the guys made the experience wonderful. They were very nice and arrived right on time. The estimate was perfect too! The guys who actually do the moving are very professional. The office staff is a bunch of unprofessional liars. They do not return phone calls. They make up quotes as you go along. They told me they were charging a little more because they were all booked up and had to rent a truck. Funny thing, it was a Seaman's truck that pulled up and they did not return any calls regarding this. Mind you this was the 2nd time I was using them this year. Seamen's moved us last week from downtown to the Upper East Side. To start with, Michael is super easy to work with. He is patient, responsive and clear. He sent someone over to see our "stuff" and emailed a reasonable quote. He quoted us by the hour so I was kind of nervous that the cost would end up being more than expected. To my surprise, it was LESS by 30 minutes. The team he sent over was wonderful. The 4 men worked extremely hard and were careful with our floors, furniture (wrapped well) etc. They cared about doing the job right, wrapping all furniture well, asking where we wanted things, and were very courteous. We had a tight timeframe to complete the job - our new building required that the trucks arrive by 1PM and leave by 4PM. They came early (around 7:15am) and made sure we met the requirements. read more
